I've driven by this place a lot and finally decided to stop and give it a try. So happy I did! Super friendly staff with a great coffee menu and breakfast/lunch options. I really enjoyed my bagel sandwich with egg, cheese, veggie sausage, and garlic cream cheese. My friends got the sandwich lunch boxes and had good things to say about the sandwiches, salsa, hummus, and sweet treat. Also super yummy chai and stumptown coffee! Lots of customizable options here in terms of bagel and cream cheese flavors, sandwich toppings, and coffee syrups. You can even get cold foam on your iced coffee for free! Fernie's Coffee & ZigZag 4 Stars Headed up toward Mt. Hood, I swung into Fernie's Coffee & ZigZag on a cold mountain morning, chasing a memory more than a meal. Back in the day when this place went by a different name and the vibe was more Hoppin' they made some of the greatest biscuits and gravy around. Legendary stuff. So naturally, I had to try it again. Good news: it didn't disappoint. I won't swear it's as good as the original incarnation (time has a way of polishing memories), but it's a solid second-best, and that's saying something. The biscuits were hearty, the gravy did its job, and I left full and ready for the road. The coffee? Decent. It'll wake you up, won't change your life, but it'll get you to Timberline without falling asleep at the wheel. That said, the place feels like a ghost of its former self. Sad to see the market closed that part stings a little. The building still holds the echoes of what it used to be, and you can almost feel the history lingering in the corners. Service-wise, there was a moment. The lady at the counter was BS-ing with some guy at the window for a solid five minutes or maybe he was just standing there, staring into the void but either way, I was ready to order. That little pause cost them a star. Still, for the price, the convenience, and the fact that I was in and out with no line while heading up the mountain, it earns four stars. Okay so I never leave reviews but I felt like I had too with this one. Me and my wife stoped by because the hours on google said open, but the place looked closed , we stood outside waiting to be greeted Immediately we were met with attitude from the barista almost like she didn't want to be there much less serve us. The whole interaction was very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place not because of the coffee which was great but because of the service and attitude of the barista. read more

The coffee is good, they use the brand Stumptown coffee. The breakfast food is really good. We tried the jalapeño bagel with egg, bacon & the schmear of the day, plus biscuits & gravy. Both were delicious. We had a small wait but that's to be expected with a tiny business. It's a cute tiny coffee hut with dog photos everywhere. It's a grab-n-go type of business, you walk up to a window to order. There is minimal seating and no trash cans, so you have to take your trash with you. It's a nice place to stop on your way to Mt. Hood or going through. Side note: there are no views just a parking lot. read more

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could!! The coffee, the food, the ambiance and the service is top notch!! Plus if you like dogs, you'll be in heaven (there's Polaroids of customers dogs all over!!). We came here before hiking to romana falls and it was the best decision ever. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese on the side and an iced americano with vanilla cold foam. My brother got the Fernie (coffee) which was like a Reese's pieces coffee omg it was sooooo good. Came with a Reese's piece on top! And he got spinach Asiago with the spread of the week which was a basil tomato situation - I tried his and it was so delicious. Didn't have to wait long. The drinks were perfectly made. The bagels were fluffy and toasted to perfection. I'm already planning how we can fit this place back into our itinerary. Plus the ppl working are so friendly!!! We'll be back!! read more

Terrific breakfast sandwiches, excellent coffee, chai. The service is fast and FRIENDLY even when they are slammed, you get a greeting and a smile which is refreshing. It is window service but it's covered and has seats while you wait. It's an easy drive from Wildwood Park and it's WORTH the trip. read more

We stopped in this morning for a quick breakfast before heading back home after spending a few days in the area. We ordered a hot lavender vanilla latte, Italian soda, and a single order of biscuit and sausage gravy with a side of bacon. To start, the latte was absolute perfection and the Italian soda was amazing. But the biscuit and sausage gravy... well, I can honestly say that it's the best I've had since moving from the south to the PNW! Fernie's absolutely perfected their recipe! Oh, and the biscuit was so fluffy and delicious too! We hated that we waited til our last day to stop in and try it out. If you're in the area, be sure to visit Fernie's! And they love dogs!! Best coffee on the mountain!!! And hands down the best biscuits and gravy you'll ever stick in your face. This ain't fast food and that's why they've got covered seating aplenty. If there's a wait, just know there's a good reason for it. The food is all top notch and the coffee beats anything you'll find anywhere on the mountain. Bring your dog, or your cat, or your mini horse.... Whatever! They'll take your pet's pic and hang it up around the shop with hundreds of others. Great stop! We loved Fernie's! The service was impeccable! The coffee and smoothie we got were both good too (they even had a fancy vanilla syrup they used with more organic ingredients). The staff was so friendly! They offered us a glass of water on a hot day. The Polaroid photos of the dogs are adorable. Very sweet spot! This is a covered coffee/food stand with some covered bench seating. I got an oat milk latte and it was okay, but I will admit I'm a coffee snob. The sandwiches, however, were excellent! So tasty and all the ingredients were very fresh. I got a Mountian Box which is half a turkey sandwich on some truly amazing bread, plus pretzels, hummus, and carrots (and they threw in a free cookie!) I had my dog with me and the very friendly barrista gave her a homemade dog treat which my pup enjoyed. There was only one person working the day we stopped so it was a little slow but it was worth the wait. I think this is a great addition to the Hoodland area. read more

Fernies coffee is a cute little coffee shack(?) off of hwy 26 in Rhododendron in the Mt. Hood Food store parking lot, about a quarter mile before the Dairy Queen and where you start to enter the Mt. Hood Forest. No drive thru, but the order / wait area is all covered which is nice. They serve local Stumptown Coffee, along with other faves like Jazzy Bagels! Their menu was pleasant and they had their own special drinks which was good to see. I had the 'Snowfall' where she uses both powder and syrup white chocolate. Pretty good with a nice balance of sweet and espresso. Stop bye on your way to the mountain, it won't disappoint! read more

FYI I believe Fernie's is the new owner of Mtn High Coffee. This place is a gem! Working up in Rhododendron for a week and stopped by Fernie's for a morning drip and the Steel Cut oats. Both 10/10 on taste. When I was there for breakfast, I noticed their daily soup was an Impossible Chili, so I knew i'd be back. Great choice. Another 10/10. Definitely stop by Fernie's if you're in the area and want a good coffee or warm breakfast/lunch. read more

my best friend and i are visiting from florida. our airbnb is approx 5 minutes away from Fernie's. we stumbled across Fernie's on our first morning and we are sooo glad we did. we've been everyday since! their coffee and their cider is delicious. we get a toasted bagel as well and it's so tasty, especially the tillamook cheese bagel. the service is always friendly. there is also lots of dog polaroids to look at! check it out! read more
