My lovely lady got us tickets to participate in the wine tasting at Red Hook Winery this past Saturday. The day was cloudy & chilly but we still managed to enjoy our time at this event. The location is nestled in a warehouse area of Red hook right off the water and we were happy to see they had private parking available. Once inside we were greeted with a warm welcome and a smile as we shared our reservation name. The people behind us didn't have a reservation and they were still welcomed to a non-reserved table. Once we sat down another pleasant woman explained the menu and the order in which the white & red wine would be served. Given the amount of wine we were about to drink, we decided that we had to order a charcuterie platter to pair with our tasting. The platter had various aged cheeses, salami, a marmalade, wafer-thin crackers and mini cucumbers (I'm sure they have a name but I'm not that cultured to know). We were started with the white wines and given a quick education about the vineyards, various wine growers and the wines themselves. Since we are both light weights when it comes to alcohol....let's just say we felt the effects quickly. The excessive giggling added to our good time. Additionally, we were so fortunate to have a freelance photographer sitting at the table beside us, and who offered to take our pictures. She was very nice and we loved her energy. All in all, we really enjoyed our experience and most of the wine. We would encourage you to go visit our new friends at Red Hook Winery. read more

I love the Red Hook Winery - I've been a frequent visitor over the past three years and it's really remarkable to see what lovely creations the three house wine makers can create from the same fruit which is mostly from the NoFo of Long Island and the Finger Lakes region/upstate escarpments. The seating is plentiful, the staff is beyond lovely, the space is laid out very well, the wines are wonderful and appropriately priced, the cheese/snacks/provisions are perfectly chosen to pair with your wines, Sarah is amazing (make sure to taste with her when you can), and I've brought several people to enjoy what the Red Hook Winery has to offer. Almost all of my friends/guests that I bring to TRHW have bought at least one or two bottles of wine... The only drawback is that it isn't close to public transportation and it's quite tucked away - trust me, it's worth the 22 min walk from the Smith/9th St Station (F Subway) or the drive...the views from the pier are stunning and hard to beat! Came here for a tasting. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The wines are tasty and a few of them caught me off guard- in a good way. I think there's about six different wines on the tasting menu and I wouldn't say they pour heavy, but they definitely give you more than just a few drops for each wine. For my sommeliers and true wines snobs they do not give you a fresh glass in between tastings, which is kind of expected, look where you are. Also eat beforehand or jam some treats inside your bag. The only thing they have to offer your stomach is a handful of nuts and some pita chips. The staff wears mask and there's plenty of hand sanitizer available. I was expecting something a little bit more fancy/nicer in terms of outdoor seating since the dock has so much space but nonetheless it works. There's a little homely fundraising golf tent situation outside on the dock with a couple of tables jammed under it....no nice tables with individual umbrellas? Sigh, I get it, its the apocalypse. Then there's about five 2 seater tables along the side of the building separated by plants try to sit in those. I'm also happy to report there were no flying creatures after me or my wine, I left bug bite free. They were super busy and there were no tables at the start of our reservation, which they made up with a complimentary drink and we were able to stay longer after they closed and even crashed/viewed a wedding ceremony that was taking place after hours. Definitely stop by if you're looking for something to do. read more

Zero stars for exposure. I really hope management address this to the owners of the property. Nothing wrong with the business or the winery itself. Wine was refreshing, i liked the red blend and the cheese and meat board. Very nice views and venue itself is enjoyable. The problem was the person at the parking, he very aggressive he wanted us to leave the parking lot immediately after we were done with our dining experience. Borderline rude and unnecessary. We had already paid to be there, we spoke a few ppl working there it seems to be a known issue. I hope that this issue is resolved Bc it's a very nice revenue , aside from the parking lot guy. Not appropriate to be chased out after i had already paid . Please address to property owners !! read more

Occasion- Friend's Birthday I had such a great time. The staff is very professional and pleasant. Our server was Sam; she was beautiful, funny. She explained each wine that we were trying with great detail. I loved it; I will go back again. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. I came here on a Sunday with my bestie and had the BEST experience. We came here for a wine tasting and got more than we could've ever expected. Excellent meat and cheese platter, very tasty wines that were suggested based on our own personal preference and a very informative yet light hearted and fun tour. The customer service was phenomenal. Everyone was very sweet, warm and friendly! We ended up staying wayyyy longer than expected but felt very welcomed and spent the remainder of the evening engaged in great conversation, enjoying wine and the ambiance. Sunday well spent! read more

An AMAZING experience! My cousin came in from out of town, and we wanted a unique wine tasting in NYC. Red Hook Winery was the best decision! Charlotte was a fabulous guide for our Wine Barrel Tasting & Tour (which we HIGHLY recommend!), and was very knowledgable and so sweet! We ended up purchasing several wines after making friends with the other attendees. Overall, one of the best experiences in NYC. Thank you, Red Hook Winery! read more

Our group of 6 California wine snobs came to Red Hook hearing that Robert Foley, famed Napa wine creator and savant, was a consulting wine maker for Red Hook. We were greeted with a smile and our young host, Evan (I believe), spent two hours graciously sharing a fair amount of wine knowledge and pouring at least 8 wines Although the wine quality has some room to improve, their friendliness and warmth make this a place to visit when you come to New York. They also have a killer view of the Statue of Liberty. read more

Paid for a tasting for 7 online (tip 20% up front). Got there right on time, were told to wait by the Eric-Matthews-looking manager Vince. Waited 30min to see another group roll up and be seated right away at the table they had finally set up for us. Made it clear we were not happy to which Vince shrugged and replied "it happens". He then thought it'd be cool to mock us for suggesting they needed to make it up to us. Worth mentioning he had been flirting with a member of the other group prior to seating them immediately. On top of this, the wine was mediocre at best. Amazing location. Actual table service was great. The server did end up throwing in some cheese and a desert wine, which was appreciated. Unfortunately overshadowed by Vince's terrible attitude. If you see him, tell him he sucks for us. read more

I visited the winery in September 2020 with a party size of 6 (3PM, a Sunday). We were celebrating a birthday and had Jeff as our server. The group was seated on time, under a tented table with plastic window sides (so protected from sun, rain and wind). Jeff wore a mask the whole time and immediately brought us glasses, water and bowls of rosemary crackers (in sealed bags so more sanitary). He then proceeded to visit the table 3-4 times, pouring two 2oz. pours of wine at a time and teaching us about what we were tasting. When we concluded, we were having a good time, so we asked if we could buy a bottle (at a 15-20% discount because we did a tasting) and remain where we were seated. They gladly let us and we were able to continue enjoying the great setting and weather. There are two bathrooms indoors which were very clean (single rooms). Everyone was wearing a mask indoors, and there was purell readily available. read more

I hope this review can be a wake up call to the owner. This winery could very well be the best location in the world, but the wines are truly a disaster. As a member of Macari I can attest that they produce some of the best grapes / wines in NY, but this does not at all translate to what Red Hook Winery is offering. Please stop doing what you are doing and repurpose the place to offer quality wines from other NY places that actually know what they are doing, or hire people who are experts at this. Best wishes!! read more

Friendly staff, however, please note that tastings are only done via reservations. Even though website says walk ins are welcome. Also, it would be nice to have umbrellas in outdoor seating area as it gets quite hot in the sun. Wines are ok, nothing spectacular. Pets are welcome which is a plus. read more

Truly a hidden gem! I was surprised to hear about a winery in Brooklyn -- while they don't grow their own grapes, everything else is done onsite. It's pretty big inside but seems to get quite busy on weekends, we went early in the day on a Saturday and by the time we were leaving the place had really filled up. We sampled a few great wines and ended up purchasing a bottle and relaxing here for the afternoon with a cheese plate (also amazing!). A great spot to spend a nice afternoon. read more

Overall: Decent grapes = decent wine. Neither great nor bad, Red Hook is a fun spot to sample wines with friends or family. The good: An open atmosphere allows for large gatherings while there's also a decent amount of space for smaller groups as well. The atmosphere is trendy and matches the retrofitted warehouse vibe in the neighborhood that it's in. The cheese board was a nice addition to the pairing with both cheeses not being overpowering to the wine. The not-so-good: The wine itself is average, doesn't overachieve in any category, and is unfortunately forgettable. The notes described by the somms for each of our 4 pairings ( 2 reds 2 whites) didn't match, whether that's the fault of the wine or somm I'm unsure. Atmosphere: 7.5/10 Service: 7.5/10 Food/wine: 8/10 read more

I might be spoiled by the grapes from California, but I didn't care for the wines from here at all. I ordered 2 flights: one red, one white (pretty good deal at $15 per). I thought the whites were sicky sweet and tasted like juice, and the reds were one dimensional (basically slightly more bitter versions of the whites). read more

We love this place! The wines are tasty, the staff are always nice and informative, and the view is beautiful! We return again and again.

I went for a wine tasting just this past Saturday 04/10/21 and I was delighted. Our wine instructor was very knowledgeable on all of our tastings and was able to help recommend wines to our liking. The ambiance is very relaxing and you get to see a great view of the water as it's right on the pier. Locating the facility was a little difficult as the GPS was sending us to the other side of the building. This is definitely something awesome to do once the weather gets warm as it's right off of the water that gives off a lot of breeze. I was a bit upset as they ask you to reserve online and pay upfront. In the reservation you have the option of choosing to sit inside or outside, I chose inside due to the weather. Unfortunately when we arrived for our 6pm reservation INSIDE we were asked to sit OUTSIDE because they had a group already sitting down outside and well into their wine tasting that wanted to come inside because it was chilly. I found it very unprofessional that after making a clear reservation for INSIDE we were placed outside and asked to work with them. I did not want to start any commotion considering the setting we were in but that's not cool. Some white privileged group got to sit inside because they were cold when their original reservation was for outside? This place loves to boast about their urban feel and their urban vibes. They have an old warehouse building with a lot of exposed brick...lol they're in the middle of Red Hook Brooklyn. REAL Brooklyn natives im sure you understand. Overall it's a great place with delicious wine their staff just needs to do better with honoring reservations, or just get rid of them over all. read more

The winery is a bit of a trek to get to but you'll be rewarded with incredible views overlooking the Hudson and pretty good wine. I'd recommend pairing a visit with Hometown BBQ (best bbq in NYC in my opinion) since it's nearby. I liked the interior of the winery- it's a massive rustic warehouse with the barrels and wine equipment in the back and a large sitting area with tables and couches near the windows. We arrived right when the winery opened and were one of the first groups there, though when we left, it was starting to get a bit more crowded. We tried the Classic tasting ($18) which included 4 different pours: two reds (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) and two whites (Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc). While I generally prefer red wines, I thought the whites, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc, were the better of the wines we tried. Our friends agreed on the Sauvignon Blanc but they didn't like their Rosé. It all comes down to taste I guess. Apparently, there's a barrel tasting tour where you can taste a few barrel samples but need to make a reservation between 12-4pm. We'll try that next time! read more

The Red Hook Winery was a great experience! It was very cool to be at an urban winery. The wines were delicious and the woman who was teaching us about the wine was knowledgable and kind. Due to COVID, we were sitting outside, with such a beautiful view! It was definitely cold, so if you're going for the wine tasting, bring a blanket. But overall, great experience. read more

A group of us (4) signed up for the barrel tasting tour which isn't very long but does offer a variety of wines throughout the winemaking process. The pours were very generous, which we all appreciated. Evan, who led the tour, was very friendly and knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy it, which makes all the difference. The wines we had were all surprisingly good; even the whites, which I typically can't stand. All in all it was a fun experience and is a welcoming hangout. I believe on Sundays they do a blind tasting, so if you bring your own bottle, you can taste multiple wines for no additional charge...? I think. It sounds like something I'll be participating in in the future haha. The only critique: they could use more food options, plus more cheese than just cows'. I know they aren't a restaurant, but it'd make all the difference. read more

We love this place. I love the old world feel to the tasting room. The staff is wonderful, knowledgeable, and happy to work at the establishment. We try to go once or twice a month. Lately it has been more. The wines are always interesting. Some are very establishment, others are very new and different. Its always interesting. We usually go early, have a tasting and a charcuterie board, which is perfectly sized for 2 and then have a dinner in the area. Try this place. I believe you will like it and want to return as we do. read more

Who knew Brooklyn had a winery??? My husband and I went biking and happily stumbled about the Red Hook Winery. The staff is super nice and if i remember correctly, all of their grapes come from NY vineyards We tried the $5 tastings which gives you 3 pours. The Reisling and Cab Franc were good but nothing special. The North Fork Chardonnay on the other hand was amazing!!!! Complex and delicious flavor. Wow. I will definitively be returning to pick up a bottle! read more

Beautiful location, some of the worst wine I have ever had. Many better options in red hook for drinks

Marquita was a true gem of our barrel tasting. The location, atmosphere, and the wine at the RHW were all fantastic. Plenty of people were inside enjoying the wine and kept the liveliness going. The tour was informative and most importantly, filled with delicious wine. Coming in, I was skeptical about the quality of the wine that I'd be tasting, but some of the reds that I've tasted were pretty damn amazing. We got a taste of cab franc that's going to be bottled this summer, and I already emailed them for the official release date because it was that good of a juice. Highly recommend if in the area! read more

Parking was easy, Waiter was very nice. The wine selection was good, maybe 2 out of the 6 were ehh. But overall great experience.

Unable to get out of the city and hit the Vineyards out east? Looking for a day time activity with out of town visitors? Interested in a team work outing? Red Hook Winery is great for really any reason. The space offers a laid back and cozy tasting room that's well suited for groups both large and small. Tastings are generous and reasonable priced. The wine is nothing crazy but enjoyable. If I remember correctly the grapes all come from Long Island and the Finger Lakes region, but the wine is made in house. It's a great operation! Definitely make a point to visit Red Hook Winery. It's a great way to spend an hour or 6. read more

Very cool location overlooking the water, and the wines were great. The only complaint I have is that there were no small bites available to order before or with the wines. We just got a bag of chips. The service was great though and everyone there was super friendly. read more

We came here for my mom and my brother's birthdays. It's a beautiful setting and location; but unfortunately their staff is awful right now. The wine was ok. It wasn't anything amazing but it was ok. The tall blonde girl on their staff has the worst attitude and is super nasty to customers. It wasn't just us either.. we overheard her being really rude to another table as well. They also made us move tables twice. They told us we could pick any table outside to sit, so we did. Then 40 minutes later, they made us move. So they told us to pick any table inside, then within seconds of sitting, they said we couldn't sit there. It was the same blonde girl and she was so nasty to us when it wasn't even our faults. So even though it was a nice day and a beautiful setting, not sure I'd recommend visiting just because of the awful staff. read more

This place is definitely not on the beaten path by Brooklyn standards, but if you venture out to Red Hook, you should make a point of stopping in and trying some of their wines. Red Hook Winery has a nicely appointed tasting room on a pier next to some other local artisan shops. They offer tastings during their open hours and have an extensive list for you to choose from. Kudos to them for offering flights of 3 or 6 or a la carte however you would like. The fact that you are not limited to picking wines in specific price ranges speaks volumes as some other wineries are more restrictive. My friend and I each had a flight of 6 (1 oz pours, so nothing crazy) for $15 - that seems like a great deal to me. Though I didn't buy any wine to take home, it doesn't mean I won't go back in the future to stock up. The only reason I am giving them 4 vs 5 stars is that our service was a bit lackluster. Other tasting groups seemed to have servers who were more attentive and informative and ours was not. The wines were great - I liked 5 of the 6 - but if we hadn't tried to ask questions as we went through the tasting, we wouldn't have known anything other than the name of the wine. Definitely worth swinging through if you can - they also do daily tours but we arrived slightly too late to be included in the one for that day. read more

I'm really glad that I found this gem! We stumbled upon it after buying a key lime pie at Steve's. It's right around the corner. $5 for a tasting is a steal and the wines were fantastic. They had a really interesting "skins on" chard, and a cab that smelled so yummy! I'm used to really "fruit forward" California wines, but I found these wines to be really interesting. Our server was really friendly and even let us try some of the reserves (even though that's normally only for the $12 reserve tasting). She was really friendly and told us the story of how the winery weathered Hurricane Sandy. I'm glad that they survived Sandy and are now back in business! I'll definitely look out for their wines now at NYC restaurants and perhaps when i'm next back in the neighborhood. read more
