I was not disappointed!! I called to validate how they were operating in the Covid environment. They only had outside service and it was chilly, but I was prepared since I had researched. Jeff was my server/educator on their wines. He was an amazing host and taught me a lot about their facility, how they bring their grapes in, the wine makers and the history overall. I was coming from out of town (Rhode Island) and looking to take my good friend out to a winery for her birthday. We found Red Hook Winery and set up a reservation for a weekday afternoon and we had such a wonderful experience. Our host was Emily, who was so knowledgeable of all of the wines and incredibly personable. She made sure we felt at home and provided great service. The space is beautiful inside, but we opted to sit out since the weather was nice and you're right on the water. There's plenty of parking (if you're driving). I bought our tasting for 3 people about 10 min before we walked in (during phase 2 reopening) at $25 per person. We sat outside for the tasting and had a fantastic time with our server, Sami. I believe there are usually cheese boards available, but they only had pita chips right now (we got one bag with our tasting and then we bought a couple more). We had planned on getting lunch nearby but we stayed at red hook longer than expected. We bought the red blend on our tasting menu to take home, and bought the rosé Syrah to drink at the winery. My friend and I walked here today to see if we could have a glass of wine outside now that NYC is in phase 2. We found out they are not selling glasses of wine just yet (that's the next phase) but we could choose to have a wine tasting or buy a bottle to take away. We decided on a wine tasting since they had spacious outdoor seating with great views of the East River. We were also the only customers there until later on in the day, so it was perfect. The reason I'm writing this review is because our server was absolutely FANTASTIC. She was really welcoming when we arrived and walked us through our different options and how to book the tasting. We had our two pups with us, she brought them a water bowl, as well as water and an unopened bag of pita chips for us. She took care to explain each wine, as well as let us take our time between each tasting to talk and catch up. We didn't feel rushed at all, only super comfortable and welcomed. I also felt like she was taking great care to stay within the CDC guidances not only for us but for other customers. I wanted to love this place soooo much. A winery in BK, by the water, and great views. Well, for starters the hostess was great and friendly. I'm not a wine snob but more of a wine enthusiast. The wines are home grown in NY. I'm not sure where to start but they're not great. The whites almost have a vinegar taste or as if the grapes were rushed through the fermentation process. The Rosè was not even OK. It was bitter and I LOVE Rosè...but not this one. The reds, those were slightly better but not amazing. Now, let's get to the server. For starters, she started off as friendly and greeted the table. We had 1 person running late and the waitress was adamant about us not starting the tasting until our 5th person showed up. By the time we explained to the waitress for the THIRD time it was OK to start without this person, I was already annoyed. First, she brought out the white wines. She then proceeded to tell us that we MUST finish the wine in our glasses before we may proceed to the next set of wines. There was no bucket to pour out the wine that we did not enjoy. It was like "finish this before you get that..." There was also NO CHANGING of glasses. The waitress wanted us to use the same exact glasses from pinot grigio to merlot. As a side note, we could see other tables have their glasses refreshed and changed out. Apparently, we were not the only ones who didn't enjoy some or most of the wine, as we could see the pours left in the glasses. By the time our 5th guest arrived, we were wrapping up the first set of white wines. As we moved on to our next pour, the waitress is working with another table who just sat. She proceeded to pet their dog, rubs the dog's fur, belly, and head... the waitress walks back to grab some treats for the dog and gives it to the dog one by one in his mouth. Ok, not strange if you're a dog lover...right? No, not at all! But, this was the waitress in an establishment who did not once wash her hands or use sanitizer after playing with and feeding another customers dog, and then wanting to proceed and touch everyone's glasses at our table and pour wine for us. I'm allergic to dogs so the outcome was rather annoying. By the 3rd pour, obviously annoyed, we just poured our wine into our glasses and were ready to leave... the waitress was visably upset that we poured our wine and says "oh no this is not ok..." She then storms off and walks behind the bar. Talk about poor frustration tolerance, lack of ability to do your job efficiently, and poor hand hygiene... I have no issue with any dog friendly establishments however I have issues with waitresses/servers with poor hygiene and poor customer service ESPECIALLY when gratuity is factored in your price in advance and ther person doesn't deserve that 20%. Lastly, we had to speak to the hostess about the server to finish off the evening with the last pour of red wines. We were able to explain out experience to the hostess. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Red Hook winery. read more

Went here for a group family outing for the holiday weekend. Great atmosphere and ambience. The staff is extremely friendly and patient - exactly what you need for groups. The wine tasting was informative and delicious. We had a totally of 6 different tasting and chips was included in our tasting. The place is dog friendly and also stroller/baby friendly. We saw a few strollers and cute dogs. Spacious enough and right in front of the piers. Would recommend for family or friend outing. Good alternative to going to the vineyards in Long Island. One of the best wineries I've been to, mainly due to the breathtaking view of Red Hook. The winery is right by the waterfront and you can enjoy the view from inside of the winery. The winery isn't that big, with only a couple of tables/sofa to sit and couple of stands. We went on Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. Of course we did wine tasting, and we kept asking questions on the wines and the staff was very accomodating. I was a bit surprised that though their wines for sale were extremely expensive, averaging from $30-$50 for a bottle. I went to the winery thinking I'd pick up couple of bottles after tasting, but I actually didn't end up buying. But I did enjoy their wine in their very relaxed atmosphere. Enjoyed our experience at The Red Hook Winery on Saturday afternoon. The only problem is not getting to stick around for a few more glasses after the tasting is over. Quality: The Red Hook Winery has a wonderful Wine Tasting experience, one that we hoped wouldn't end. They had a pre-planned Tasting of six wines, with two additional thrown in. From the Wine Tasting list we tried a 2013 Chardonnay, a 2015 Reserve Chardonnay, a 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2013 SK Whtie Blend "Vipolze", a 2015 Reserve Red Blend "Moraine", and a 2015 Reserve Red Blend "Moraine." We also ended up with an additional White and a Rose. My favorites were surprisingly the 2013 Chardonnay and the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, which I felt surpassed the red wines that typically capture my interest. Along with the wine they provided some flatbread crisps, which were nice but I could have also used some cheese or dips even for an extra cost. I also wish there was the opportunity to just continue to relax at our table with an additional glass or two of wine. Quantity: The Wine Tasting came with six different wines, but we were also provided tastes of two additional wines. Value: $25 for a Wine Tasting. Ambiance: The Red Hook Winery sits at the bottom tip of Red Hook in Brooklyn, in a dock warehouse on the water. It can be a little confusing to find, as the warehouses are not clearly marked, but it is the most lively spot in the area. It was a rainy afternoon, so they had some tents set up over the outdoor tables, but I could imagine a lovely afternoon in the sun drinking wine on the dock. The inside area managed to capture that cellar feel despite being in a warehouse. High exposed ceilings, brick walls, and an open window kept it cool and just a little musty. They also have a giant Billy Joel banner that provides a good reminder that this winery is in NYC. Crowd: Reservations are required and you pay through the website. They have a constant rotation of tables every 90 minutes, and there was not a single empty chair during our visit. Service: Not sure if it is because of COVID or always the policy to only have tastings. I would have gladly stuck around for a few glasses of wine at the conclusion of our tasting, but we were told a new group was coming in. I hope this will change with expanded capacity, because it seems like a real lost opportunity. Parking: A large private parking lot near the dock buildings housing the winery. read more

Me and a friend came here for the wine tasting which is 25/pp. There is parking which is a major plus. The tables are situated outside and socially distanced with a great water view. I specifically came during sunset and it was to die for. It's pretty busy place but they are totally on top of operations. I was shown my sitting area right away and they serve these amazing rosemary crackers to pair with the wines. So the servers come over and introduce themselves and we tried various wines from Cabernet to Rosè. Our server told us a bit about the wine and left us to our own devices to enjoy each serving. It is definitely more than enough which I enjoy. I would definitely come back with a larger group and always opt for outside because...VIEWS. Fun fact about this space is that is the mansion for Real World Brooklyn. I visited the spot years ago when it was just an event space so it was nice to see what they did with the space. I love a great many things about this place. The wine is very tasty. I love the wines they pour. The atmosphere is super chill! The servers come around with wine to pour and discuss with you. Our waiter was great. We each did several flights. They also brought over water. The decor is great. The big booths and tables were so comfortable. We drank and talked and drank and drank. We ordered a cheese plate. We didn't feel rushed. Our waiter was great but I may have observed a weird situation with another employee. Also, I hate the fact they don't allow guests to bring their own food (such as birthday cupcakes!). That sucks. I wasn't going to bring a prime rib. She didn't bother to ask my friend and me if we had a reservation just assumed we didn't for the outdoor seating. She made us extremely uncomfortable so we left. My friend called the manager, Jennifer, and she said Erin is her best employee so she's sure it was a miscommunication. I can not say enough GREAT things about this winery in Brooklyn! After a few subway trips and a few miles walking, my friend and I finally experienced this hidden gem in New York City. We came here on a Monday during the day and had the whole place to ourselves which meant a lot of conversation with the owners learning the history behind the winery and of course - all about the wines. There was a deal that you can't pass up when you're at a winery that consisted of taste testing four different wines. I went with all white because I'm more of a sweet wine drinker while my friend went with red. We both were very pleased with our selections! We also ordered a cheese plate with the wines that topped it off perfectly. We sat and had a stunning view of the river that the Statue of Liberty is located on. By the time we left the place was pretty full. You can tell it's a charming place in Brooklyn! I'll definitely be back. read more

Our reservation for 4 people was at 4:30. We were promptly seated at the time of our reservation. The staff was so kind and patient. We got to taste 6 different wines. Came today after having brunch with my friend. It took us a while to find this place because yelp had the wrong address (which I updated) and there is a lot of construction going on in the area. The winery is hidden and annoying to find. Once we found the place, we were disappointed to know that tours are only Saturday and Sunday at 1pm or by reservation. I blame my friend for not knowing this since she planned for us to come here today. So why did I give this place 4 stars. Well because Dorian (I'm pretty sure this was the name of the employee that catered to us) was amazing. He listened to what type of wines we like and picked out good wines for us to sample. He was attentive, informative, and very knowledgeable. My friend and I enjoyed our time here and it made getting lost all worth it. My lovely lady got us tickets to participate in the wine tasting at Red Hook Winery this past Saturday. The day was cloudy & chilly but we still managed to enjoy our time at this event. The location is nestled in a warehouse area of Red hook right off the water and we were happy to see they had private parking available. Once inside we were greeted with a warm welcome and a smile as we shared our reservation name. The people behind us didn't have a reservation and they were still welcomed to a non-reserved table. Once we sat down another pleasant woman explained the menu and the order in which the white & red wine would be served. Given the amount of wine we were about to drink, we decided that we had to order a charcuterie platter to pair with our tasting. The platter had various aged cheeses, salami, a marmalade, wafer-thin crackers and mini cucumbers (I'm sure they have a name but I'm not that cultured to know). We were started with the white wines and given a quick education about the vineyards, various wine growers and the wines themselves. Since we are both light weights when it comes to alcohol....let's just say we felt the effects quickly. The excessive giggling added to our good time. Additionally, we were so fortunate to have a freelance photographer sitting at the table beside us, and who offered to take our pictures. She was very nice and we loved her energy. I love the Red Hook Winery - I've been a frequent visitor over the past three years and it's really remarkable to see what lovely creations the three house wine makers can create from the same fruit which is mostly from the NoFo of Long Island and the Finger Lakes region/upstate escarpments. The seating is plentiful, the staff is beyond lovely, the space is laid out very well, the wines are wonderful and appropriately priced, the cheese/snacks/provisions are perfectly chosen to pair with your wines, Sarah is amazing (make sure to taste with her when you can), and I've brought several people to enjoy what the Red Hook Winery has to offer. Almost all of my friends/guests that I bring to TRHW have bought at least one or two bottles of wine... The only drawback is that it isn't close to public transportation and it's quite tucked away - trust me, it's worth the 22 min walk from the Smith/9th St Station (F Subway) or the drive...the views from the pier are stunning and hard to beat! Came here for a tasting. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The wines are tasty and a few of them caught me off guard- in a good way. I think there's about six different wines on the tasting menu and I wouldn't say they pour heavy, but they definitely give you more than just a few drops for each wine. For my sommeliers and true wines snobs they do not give you a fresh glass in between tastings, which is kind of expected, look where you are. Also eat beforehand or jam some treats inside your bag. The only thing they have to offer your stomach is a handful of nuts and some pita chips. The staff wears mask and there's plenty of hand sanitizer available. I was expecting something a little bit more fancy/nicer in terms of outdoor seating since the dock has so much space but nonetheless it works. There's a little homely fundraising golf tent situation outside on the dock with a couple of tables jammed under it....no nice tables with individual umbrellas? Sigh, I get it, its the apocalypse. Then there's about five 2 seater tables along the side of the building separated by plants try to sit in those. I'm also happy to report there were no flying creatures after me or my wine, I left bug bite free. They were super busy and there were no tables at the start of our reservation, which they made up with a complimentary drink and we were able to stay longer after they closed and even crashed/viewed a wedding ceremony that was taking place after hours. Wine was refreshing, i liked the red blend and the cheese and meat board. Very nice views and venue itself is enjoyable. The problem was the person at the parking, he very aggressive he wanted us to leave the parking lot immediately after we were done with our dining experience. Borderline rude and unnecessary. We had already paid to be there, we spoke a few ppl working there it seems to be a known issue. I hope that this issue is resolved Bc it's a very nice revenue , aside from the parking lot guy.
