Bread service
Julie D.

I went about a year ago and the food was a bit underwhelming but decided to try it again and was really pleasantly surprised. The meatballs were great, lobster fra Diavlo had nice angel hair pasta and a generous amount of seafood. Pesto was great as well and the atmosphere is so cool.

This is a fantastic spot for drinks if you can find it. The hidden entrance adds to the fun and gives it great speakeasy vibes. My husband loved the Camparajillo and the Guava Sbagliato Negroni, while I enjoyed the Citrus Solstice cocktail and a glass of rosé. Every drink was well-crafted and delicious. If you're looking for a cocktail bar this place is definitely worth checking out.

There's not enough stars. First of all what a speakeasy vibe - small sticker, dark stairs, blacked out door that opens into this vibey red light low lit bad ass place. The staff are amazing- you couldn't try to need something here, they may be mind readers. The cocktails are intriguing and delicious. The food. Y'all. Holy heck. The BEST food in all of Boston probably. Maybe the world. Am I being dramatic, yes. Am I wrong, no way.

This is a romantic dining spot in the north end. They don't have a huge menu, but they have a lot of Italian classics and a good cocktail menu. Our server was very nice and attentive. We would definitely come back and try some additional dishes!

This might be my favorite restaurant in the city. I think its food flavor wise is better than the north end. The ambience is amazing. It's very dim lit and moody. Their martinis are always spot on. The Parmesan martini is shockingly good, especially as someone who doesn't like dirty Martinis. The spinach and ricotta appetizer with the sage butter is so good. Arancini was also good. Both times have had the vodka pasta, and the orrechiete. The first time the orrechiete was very al dente, so just asked to cook a little more during my second visit and it was perfect. Spaghetti al limone was a nice complement to the other two!

The red fox is a restaurant that has speakeasy vibes. We were sat in the back area away from the bar which was a bit more intimate which is my preference. The decor and ambiance of the place is interesting and vibey. Drinks were great, but on the pricier side. Food was also good and the portions are heftyyy. Overall it was a great experience and I'd go back. The only area where that fell just a bit short was the overall taste of the food, it didn't blow me away, but again, good. Oh and lastly service was pretty good, no complaints.

Bolognese and Rigatoni

The Red Fox is such a vibe. It feels like eating in your Italian grandma's basement (in the best way). Cozy, old school, and charming. Service was amazing and super friendly. We ordered the arancini, bolognese, and rigatoni which were all so good, and the rigatoni had a little spice to it. Classic Italian comfort food done right. Would definitely go back.

We only had drinks, but the experience was lovely. We popped in for a quick round, and the hosted was gracious enough to let us sit for one round of drinks before a reservation came in. This is unheard of at so many other speakeasies in the city - normally you're turned away without a second thought! The drinks we got were the Alpine Spritzes and they were so delicious - a perfect take on a spritz for winter. The ambience is sultry and romantic, perfect for a GNO, romantic date night, or even an elevated family outing! Will definitely come back for dinner service soon.

Sour apple and aglio e pepe martinis

I came for my birthday and greatly enjoyed the ambiance and service as well as the small menu. I took a risk and got the aglio e pepe martini (garlic, parm, and black pepper) and was pleasantly surprised. The garlic flavor cut some of the burn from the alcohol and it paired nicely with my arancini and rigatoni alla vodka. I do have to say that the vodka pasta was pretty spicy which distracted me from the flavor but my tolerance is low. I loved my experience here and will be returning to try more of the menu

Da bar!

Stepping down into The Red Fox, nestled discreetly beneath the streets of Boston's North End, feels like descending into a different era. This is not just a bar; it's a masterpiece of atmosphere and design that perfectly blends classic speakeasy swagger with Italian charm. The first thing that commands your attention is the sheer gorgeousness of the interior (Yes, I am a male writing this review), dominated, as the name suggests, by the rich, passionate hue of red. From the plush velvet banquettes to the carefully selected lighting fixtures, the color red bathes the room in an intimate, seductive glow. Every detail shows meticulous care: the upholstered bar seats are not merely functional but luxurious, and the deeply cushioned booths offer private pockets of romance and conversation, designed for lingering (although I don't recommend it. I mean, they need to turn table!! ). The overall vibe is nothing short of amazingly comfortable yet distinctly swanky--it's the kind of place where you feel instantly sophisticated but utterly relaxed. This high standard of excellence extends beautifully to the culinary offerings. While The Red Fox specializes in drinks, the Italian cuisine is pulled off perfectly. We sampled a few of the appetizers, and they were what the three of us needed before our dinner, small, flavorful portions that act as the ideal complement to the cocktails without overwhelming. This is well-executed food that respects its North End roots. Finally, the experience was sealed by the magnificent staff and the quality of the bar program. The curated drink menu is focused and clever, offering complex spins on classics and unique signatures that truly hit the spot. More impressively, the staff was everywhere, attentive without being intrusive and totally accommodating to every request. I think The Red Fox is a must-visit destination, a subterranean gem that delivers, comfort, and culinary finesse in equal measure. Oh.. And I want the person's name that made those booths and where they got the bar seats!

Scottish lavender

I was trying to find the extra dirty cocktail club which is behind this place. I sat at the bar and grabbed a drink called Scottish lavender which was a scotch mezcal sip drink. It was very tasty. I didn't have a reservation and was able to seat at the bar immediately. I did come on a Friday night and chatted with the bartender who gave some recommendations of other places to check out in the city. I also got the tiramisu which is definitely for two people but one person if you don't have much before. It came quickly and the service was very personable. For a place I stumbled upon, I would definitely come back again for dinner.

Lobster ravioli

Great environment. Very nice staff. Bread service was excellent. Lasagna was very tasty too.

This was my first time at The Red Fox. Good luck finding it. The ambiance of this establishment was amazing. I had bar reservations. The bartender was friendly and made the best drinks on and off of the menu. The pistachio martini was delicious; the martini is offered with or without a scoop of pistachio gelato. We asked the bartender to make a pretty tequila cocktail and she delivered. The lobster ravioli was so good in the butter sauce. I'm not a fan of risotto, however this was best risotto I've had in a long time. I will definitely return to The Red Fox!

I've not only had many of the best drinks I've ever had in Boston here, but some of the best drinks I've ever had. The bartenders are also great at explaining things. The only cons are that it's hard to get tickets -- they do a prix fixe drink menu for which you buy tickets online, all included. But ti's hard to get them because they're so good! You should come expecting to drink perhaps more than you usually do (or at least than we do) -- say 3.5 drinks. So a taxi, rideshare, or public transit it the way to go. And the accompanying food is meant as a sidelight -- it accompanies the drinks, which are the focus. If you like inventive cocktails, this is the top place to try in Boston. We arrived for our whirlwind 1 day Boston day with a few things planned. The Wig Shop was a spot I had earmarked as a maybe. On the way to Boston by train from New York, I read an article of great bars in all of America, and the Wig Shop had made their list. I showed my gal as we were in route to Boston, and we agreed that Karma was leading us there. I checked about a reservation, but ended up going over early to try and beat the walk in crowd. That worked out great, we had almost no wait. The place was full. There were alot of people enjoying the food menu, which we didn't plan on since we had dinner reservations elsewhere for later. But we got a couple of drinks. There are many types of speakeasies. The Wig Shop is one of favorite kinds, classy. The drinks were alcohol forward, with elegant presentations. It was perfect. It was nice that the universe pointed us towards this great Boston spot.

It responded right away that it would optimize for a place that appeals to cocktail nerds and is open on Mondays. I directed me to Wig Shop, and said that Wig Shop even has a cocktail named in honor of John Gertsen, Boston's much-missed (he's in SF, last I knew) founding bartender at Drink and Number Nine Park. Wig Shop did not disappoint: fabulous cocktails, an easygoing vibe (my two buddies and I were able to chat without yelling from 8pm until 11:30), comfortable banquettes (with, incidentally, backs that are high enough to be supportive but low enough that you can spread out your arms on them), and wonderful service. The service, in particular, lives up to the "cocktail nerd" aspect that the LLM highlighted: our server knew the drinks backwards and forwards, and knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the drink in Gertsen's honor. I'd recommend this place to cocktail nerds, and to anyone who wants to have a drink and chat with friends. We'll be back soon.
