Be careful before you support this place... To be clear this review is mainly for the people who work at the front register. Even though the shooting range here is very overpriced (however it is state of the art) the people working at the range and most of the sales clerks on the floor are friendly, passionate, and knowledgeable. I went in a couple weeks ago to purchase a handgun under my LTC and once I got to the register my experience took a turn for the worse. Guy working the counter looked like he hated his life and he decided the moment I walked up to the counter that he didn't like me either. I could tell he was just trying to get me out of there, and when I tried to lighten the mood with simple humor and human conversation, he was not interested. While filling out the LTC form I made a couple simple jokes and he, as well as the equally unenthusiastic woman sitting next to him got very upset with me, saying that I shouldn't put joke answers on the form. I responded by explaining that I would never even think about putting a joke answer on a government form with my name on it, however my sense of humor will remain. They did not like this. It seems even cracking a smile while purchasing a gun at The Range is offensive to them. And I feel like when he saw my Jewish last name he didn't like that either. His mood visibly worsened. And when they saw that I'm originally from CA they HATED me. They created a very hostile, unwelcoming environment, which can be confirmed by my friend who was with me. Unfortunately this is pretty common in the gun store world. If I wasn't already so far into the form, I'd have bought the gun elsewhere for sure. Over all a strange, anti-Semitic seeming experience, and they treated my like an idiot. If you wanna buy a gun from old white people who don't want anybody except for old white people to own guns. Facility is pristine, if you like guns you could be here for hours just looking at everything on display. Everything was shining clean. My complaint is I was shooting a pistol on the 25 yard bay and there were rifles on either side of me. Trying to focus on my target while keeping gun safety top of mind was a challenge with the impact from the rifles. It was intense. No idea why they wouldn't manage the bays to a higher standard keeping the customer top of mind. Great facility just want them to know this feedback. read more

Went to a 90 minute private training session to get familiar with my AR-15 and suppressor. Rico was my instructor and he was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about the model of rifle I had and my suppressor. He also helped me zero my sight as well. Overall, the session went great and I had a fantastic time and feel a lot more comfortable with my AR now! We also both spent some time firing my Henry lever action as well. This is probably the nicest gun range I've ever been too. Maybe because there aren't too many in the tri-state area but this facility was clean and beautifully put together. Once you walk in you are greeted by someone that will direct you to the registration area. However, as you walk through you can see a whole wall of different types of guns ranging from hand guns to automatic rifles. It was quite an amazing display. Since we had a group with us, we opted for the package where we get 4 bays each with a different type of gun. The instructor walked us through a quick rules and regulation course and then instructions on how to use the guns. Our instructor was very detailed and made us feel very comfortable with a gun. At the bays, we were able to shoot with a glock, suppressor gun, and two ARs. It was a great experience shooting but the best part was the tips and advice our instructors gave us. He watched everyone and kept helping us out. Towards the end, we became much better at hitting our targets. I highly recommend this place if you are into guns or just want to have an exciting time. read more

I was a little nervous when I showed up due to the hours saying "10am-such and such" as my class was 9-11 for the LTC, but like clockwork at 8:45, they opened up, and everyone I dealt with was friendly with zero attitude. The place is VERY nice- slick, modern and with a huge variety of product. My class went really well, thanks to my AMAZING instructor J.Rock. He was humble, kind, smart, great at INSTRUCTING and gave very clear, concise and repeat direction. I was frankly pretty nervous going in, but that went away after a few rounds during the shooting test. VERY impressed with my experience, and thanks AGAIN to my instructor, who was INCREDIBLE. read more

I lived in Texas for a 4 months last year and joined this range for a place to shoot. Everyone I dealt with here was friendly and knowledgeable. The range is state of the art, with good ventilation and new equipment all around. In short, this is the nicest indoor race Iv'e ever been to. Although I enjoyed my time here, I ended up moving to Florida and haven't been able to return. But if I lived here, I'd be a regular. The most important element of this place is the management and their values. Should anything come up during your time there, you should feel confident that they will do the best they can to do right by you. Nothing more important in running in a business in my mind. I've told all my Austin friends about this range and look forward to returning on my next trip to Austin. If you're even considering stopping in, you really should. Im revising my review, I decided to give them another shot. They allowed me to shoot 5.56 ARs and pistols in the 25 yrd range. which s great because changing bays to shoot different weapons is a PITA. Its a bit of a drive for me I have other ranges closer. The Range at Austin is nicer just not worth the drive for the cost when there are closer ranges. There isn't anything that sways me either way. I also prefer outdoor ranges with tac bays, now those I will drive for. Nice indoor range here above average facility. read more

Came here with a bunch of friends and had a VERY good experience here. When we got here, immediately we felt welcome. The person who made us sign our waivers was super nice and one person in our group, a girl, said that she didn't want to shoot, and he pointed out that girls were better shots than men. I loved that. TIP: We decided to look around the place instead of immediately checking in which was a mistake. We had to wait 30 minutes for a lane. We should have checked in and then looked around first. Bill, our lane supervisor was amazing. He showed us the correct way to stand, hold the guns, how the kickback on the specific guns were, so where to aim on our targets. He joked around, but was very serious about safety, which made me feel great. I was nervous going in that people might be a little racist, but I did not feel that at all. Not only for our group, but other groups that were visiting as well. We were considering going to a cheaper place, but I think that for the service you get here, and the way the lanes are set up, and the selection of items you have here, you can't go wrong. Basic run down of prices: - $25 per hour per lane. $10 extra per person on the lane. We had four people in our group and we had two lanes. I think we would have been fine in one lane though. - $15 to rent a pistol per gun. - $25ish to rent a rifle - $16 got 50 handgun bullets. read more

Coming from Cali (don't hold it against us), the guys at the Range were awesome with our group of 5 guys, three of which have never shot before. Dan was great showing us the guns and explaining all the rules and how to use them and was really patient. They really know how to show a good time, stress free despite shooting some big guns that we can rent. The space is beautiful and feels very modern, not an old school shooting range you'd expect in the desert. Expensive and the girl at the checkout counter was nasty to deal with. The way she spoke and her body language was very condescending. She asked us have we shot here before and our answer was no but we shot at gun ranges in CA, NY, and PA. She shook her head and was like no those don't count. Seriously. Then came the gun selection we wanted to try the pistol first $15 each and then you pay for 9mm bullets. Rifles are $20 each to rent and then 5.56 ammo. I asked about the Yelp check in for the free lane rental she's like we don't honor that and I don't know how to remove it. We shot a total of 25 rounds each it was a nice experience but I wouldn't do it again here. read more

I've been a ​member at The Range for approx. a year & 1/2. This is the first range I've ever truly looked​ forward to returning to, after my initial vi​sit, and I've been to quite a few ranges over the years. As a woman, who often enjoys hitting the range solo, I was convinced that it was scientifically impossible to simply enjoy my hour without being interrupted ​by random bursts of unsolicited, obscenely condescending mansplaining courtesy of any/eve​ry Elmer Fudd within a 10 bay​ radius...as if the idea of a woman being capable of navigating a visit to the range, without the guidance of a man, is just unfathomable. A mind you, I've been shooting for years, I'm very mindful of safety, a dang​ good shot, can clear my own jams without skipping a beat, and usually roll​ in there with a pretty sweet collection of pistols. I cherish my membership at The Range Austin because over the past 18 months of weekly, if not biweekly ​visits, not once have I had to endure a single moment of mansplaining. The RSOs are consistently respectful & courteous towards me, and I always feels safe, even when it is fully automatic, idiot, amateur hour on both sides of me. Terrible place to shoot !! I've been to this range twice and both times ended up leaving shortly after we began shooting. The Range likes to represent themselves as a higher end, professionally run range but it is basically a larger version of Red's. The first time, despite many open lanes we were put next to three guys sharing a lane that had no idea how to handle weapons. The gentlemen clearly did not even know how to grip a pistol and as a result had repeated issues with the gun failing to cycle and have jams. As they repeated worked to clear their weapons the guns were pointed in every direction but down range. The range offIcers were too busy chatting with each other to be bothered doing their job. We ultimately left since conditions were unsafe. I went back again today as I have been contemplating joining a range closer to my house. I took a new shooter who has been interested in learning to shoot. Although they have a 100 yard range for rifles we were surrounded by 3 people shooting AR-15s in rapid fire in a 25 yard range. Needless to say it was not a good experience for a new shooter. When I mentioned it to the sarcastic kid working the counter his response was "Well if you want to shoot in silence spend a few thousand dollars and get our VIP membership". Not only will I never bring anyone else here I will not be getting a membership. While it is further away Copperhead Creek in Marble Falls is a PROFESSIONALLY run range with much more to offer (600 yard rifle range, tactical bays, etc.) and it is much lower cost. I suspect this place will end up as Red's in Oak Hill. read more

Easily the nicest indoor range in Austin. Enormous size, two floors (upstairs is VIP), 100 yard rifle range and large retail space. I highly recommend going there especially when it's raining or hot, which is pretty much year round in Austin. They also rent guns and have very helpful RSOs and training staff. Lastly there is a really helpful gunsmith shop in the range when things go wrong with your guns. Go there! Yeehaw! read more

We were a group of 3, two of us has never really shot before and the gentleman at the desk was VERY helpful helpful and provided a comprehensive tutorial before we went into the booth. Our instructor Batman, was very nice and gave us a crash course on the guns we selected. We could tell he was very experienced and knew what he was talking about. This is a review for the FFL transfer process. I had purchased firearms from Family Firearms and FFL transferred to The Range. The transfer was denied (pre-background check) for frivolous reasons which ended up costing be restocking fees and shipping fees with the firearm seller. Here's what happened: - Immediately after giving the associate (Hunter Haskell, Hunter.Haskell@therangeaustin.com) my driver's license, he started peppering me with questions on why I had an FFL transfer to an Austin gunshop when I live in Houston. - I told him I had found a great deal on Family Firearms which is why I had the firearm immediately shipped to where I would be, Austin. I was in Austin for work. - Hunter said the fact that I was buying a gun in Austin when I live in Houston was a red flag and would not be transferring the firearms to me. He initially told me that he would transfer to a Houston dealer, then told me he would "have to ship the guns back to the seller". This is UNTRUE. I spoke to Michael Cargill @ Central Texas Gun Works, and he said they could have transferred the firearms directly to another Austin FFL dealer, which would have saved me $170 in restocking fees and $40 in shipping. - Given this information from the owner of another gunshop, I can only conclude that I was being discriminated against by Hunter. There was no reason for him to deny my transfer. Even then, it was fully in The Range's rights as an FFL dealer. HOWEVER, there was no reason for them to ship the firearms back to the seller instead of transferring them to another Austin dealer if they were uncomfortable transferring them to me. Hunter purposefully lied to me about transferring them back to the seller. To what end, I do not know. I will say that the next day I was able to purchase firearms no issue in Austin from Saddle Rock Armory and Central Texas Gun Works (both owned by minorities). I was treated poorly by Hunter Haskell at The Range, who was not a minority. I hate to point to race, but there was no other factor in this situation. I was perfectly respectful, had a valid Texas Driver's License, and with a clean background check. read more

Although I had been to The Range shooting several times in the past, I never received actual training so I never felt fully comfortable with a gun. I took a 90-minute individual lesson with Frank to learn the basics and to get proper instruction on technique. I feel so much more confident now and am looking forward to taking more lessons and eventually getting my LTC. Coolest gun range I've ever visited! The facility was clean and industrial modern. All of the workers were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They have a unique display area, in which the guns are displayed with a digital background with their details. The range was hopping while we were there so we just looked and moved on. This is during a pandemic and many, including staff, either weren't wearing masks at all or had them below their nose. Great idea to have a sink outside the range exit door, since reloading always leaves your hands dirty. read more

I had the opportunity to check out the VIP lounge (Patriot club) during a co-hosted event; my gym (UFC) and The Range. I was excited to learn about this event as I had been wanting to check out The Range since it was built. I had a previous membership at Red's but it has since lapsed. Upon entering The Range, it was immaculate like many others have indicated in their reviews. It is not your Austin style gun range. This place offers a very sleek and clean environment, fancy stuff in the restroom (think extras like mouthwash, spray deodorants, and feminine hygiene products but without the bathroom attendant), computerized moving targets (push a button and it moves your target the exact distance you want), and more. So anyway, I paid for my entry fee into the event and was shown to the upstairs VIP lounge. During the event I had the opportunity to shoot many different weapons to include; 9mm with a silencer, revolver (felt like I was in the wild west), and more. After shooting, I had my wristband cut off so I could drink, eat, and watch the fights. The VIP lounge is very homey, think something out of your rich California friend's living room. The couches were plush and comfortable, fancy little end tables, and pillows! The TV in the lounge looked to be a 60-72" which was perfect for watching the fights. My husband and are considering getting a membership. We are hesitant as the prices does reflect the facility prestiage status. read more

Superb facility with subpar staff. Great range bays with adjustable LED lights. They have plenty of options for renting firearms but you'll have to pry any vital info from the tight-lipped staff. Not being interrogated by "salespeople" is nice but I also like to know my options. I've been there numerous times. On their website they pride themselves on assisting new shooters but on-site assume everyone is a regular. I'm including essential info you won't find on their site or have to spend five visits to find out: - They sell new & used firearms & even offer consignment. - If you call & ask for firearm pricing they give you the MSRP & not the actual sale price. This forces you to drive there to get the actual price. - Hollow point ammo is upfront & ball ammo is sold @ the range counter - They're able to order custom products like barrels & triggers which can be installed by an on-site gunsmith. - FFL transfers are $20 - Water fountains & restrooms are buried back by the range. read more

Current military, been to loads of shooting ranges and nothing compares to this. Pros: awesome, clean, great looking facility with a great set up. Immediately walking in, front desk service is garbage. Standing there obviously confused and ignored by staff. She also didn't know a thing about anything. Rental guys were okay, but not better. $135 to rent a gun and two 50 round boxes of ammunition. Completely overpriced. For about 30 mins of enjoyment. I walked out of there feeling ripped off Could get more out of a strip club than this place. It's completely over hyped. If you want to enjoy you're time shooting rounds, go somewhere else.
