I consider myself to be one of those Yelp users who frequents this site for helpful suggestions on where to find the best local restaurants and bakeries. Not often - in fact, not once - have I left a review after my dining experience, but after seeing the overwhelming number of positive reviews posted here for The Queen's Cups I find that I have to throw my two-cents in the hat. Hopefully someone will read it and save themselves the time and money. I've had TQC products several times now, each time worse than the last. While I can't speak to her additional offerings of cookies, brownies, etc., I have tried a wide variety of cupcakes, the product on which the owner Renee King made her name. They are by far the worst cupcakes I've ever had, and it's not even close. To start, the chocolate cake TQC uses as the base for at least half their cupcakes is entirely flavorless. I'm talking no flavor AT ALL. On the flip side, the vanilla cake does taste like vanilla, it's just drier than the Sahara desert. The red velvet is no better than the chocolate, and the RV cupcake is only partially saved by the cream cheese frosting on top, which is of a nice consistency (not too heavy) and flavor. The carrot cake cupcake, however, is a different story. The cake itself is springy and lacks substance. There were no nuts, no raisins, no carrot. I was distraught. I felt like I had been deceived by a spice cupcake in carrot's clothing, which it had stolen on its way out of a boxed mix. I tried the Blueberry Lemonade cupcake, and while the blueberries were fresh with a bit of tart flavor to them, the vanilla in the cake was overpowering and immediately overshadowed the namesake of this cupcake: blueberry. The lemon frosting on top carried no flavor, just sweetness. I threw most of this cupcake away. The Cookies N' Creme cupcake should be avoided at all costs. The mound of Oreo buttercreme on top of the flavorless chocolate cupcake, combined with the pudding piped inside, makes your teeth feel like they're rotting out of your mouth while your tongue languishes helplessly under all the sugar. Speaking of frosting, there's no rhyme or reason to frosting distribution on these cupcakes. Sometimes it's a shameful dollop on an already-undersized cupcake, and then sometimes it's a mountain of overly sweet frosting that suffocates the cupcake beneath it. Beware the cupcakes with "cannoli" frosting - it's scooped on top, shaped to resemble an upside down bucket and guaranteed to make your gag reflex do a double-take. I don't know what that frosting flavor is but it's not cannoli. The customer service at TQC is crap. You're not greeted when you walk in, nor are you offered any help without first having to get someone's attention. The store space is small, and the space behind the counter even smaller. It should not be the customer's responsibility to flag down help when staff members behind the counter are standing less than 5 feet away and having conversations with each other. The final time I was there it could not have been more painfully obvious that the young girl behind the counter considered me a nuisance. As I asked her questions about some of the "flavors," she either couldn't answer or trailed off out of annoyance before looking over my shoulder at the wall. On second thought, it may have been embarrassment since every "new flavor" I asked about was almost exactly the same as the flavor she had just described. As a business that touts their creativity, originality and seemingly endless array of flavors all over Facebook, Instagram and their own website, I find it deceptive that so many of these "flavors" are practically duplicates of other flavors. Take for instance the Taco Tuesday cupcake. What makes a Taco Tuesday cupcake you might ask? Well, it's just your basic flavorless chocolate cake, cream filling, and buttercream. But why is it called "Taco Tuesday" then? Because TQC made the buttercream green and red and cracked a golden Oreo in half on top to make it look like an open taco. There is nothing Mexican or "taco" about this cupcake. How about a play on Mexican hot chocolate? Or a chocolate and chili combo? Recycling flavors and giving them a different name doesn't make you original or a flavor connoisseur, it makes you lazy. What it comes down to is that The Queen's Cups is all smoke and mirrors. The cupcakes LOOK appetizing online, where Renee inundates every social media platform with photos of the colorful products and the bakery itself. The aesthetic is heavily influenced by Pinterest, and the atmosphere is one that screams, "Take a picture for Instagram!" to the gaggle of girls who find their way inside to sit on the faux fur chairs. But you can't hide bad product. At most I'll say TQC knows how to brand, I'll give them that. But they should take that sole skill elsewhere and leave the baking industry alone. read more

WEDDING PLANNERS BE WARNED: I love their cupcakes so much! Told my mom they'd be a great choice to get her wedding cake. I regret that immensely. They didn't get the flavors right, but mistakes happen. What should never happen is when my mom called about the error they were completely rude to her, never apologized for the mistake they made, and offered no sort of discount or refund. They simply made the missing layer after the fact and thought that was enough to make up for ruining a major part of a big day. So disappointed in a company I was so so so supportive of both online, to friends, to coworkers, and to family. I totally understand all the good reviews on here but the sign of a company's true character is how they handle a mistake, and TQC totally failed. read more

Wow! That's pretty much all I can say! This place is awesome. I'm vegan so my selection was limited but it was definitely the best vegan cupcake I have had to date! The decor is perfect and we happened upon a live music session today which was fantastic. All of the cupcakes in the display were unique and looked amazing! We even chatted with the owner and got to meet the two little twins with different birthdays! This place is comfortable and everyone who works there is super nice. I've heard rave reviews of this place for a while now, particularly from friends in the Worcester area. I excitedly made a specific trip to pick up gluten free cupcakes here. See, this is hard because I live near Boston and feel like the options around here are a lot more plentiful (and honestly nothing comes close to the GF cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake on Newbury). However, the taste was so-so. But for the area, pretty good. They had a lot of choices, which was cool. Some were GF while others were GF and vegan. Unfortunately, after eating two of the cupcakes, I did get sick, which leads me to believe the cross-contamination is pretty significant. Celiacs, just be aware of that. read more

I sent an email about a week and a half ago asking for some guidance on how to select "happy birthday" cupcakes that they were promoting online. No one responded back to me. When I called, someone hung up. When I called again and finally was able to speak to someone, the girl basically overlooked my inquiry and told me it was too late to order. Didn't even apologize for the lack of response on there part. I've given this eatery business in the past, but I no longer will. It was insensitive and not the way they should be treating repeated customers especially in a time where other business are struggling for support. Highly disappointed. This place is ridiculously delicious!! I stopped here on a whim to grab a few cupcakes (a few turned into two dozen.....couldn't pick just 12!) and was pleasantly surprised! Very unassuming storefront, the cupcakes are truly over-the-top amazing!! Decorated with impeccable detail, the flavors and unique ideas put into these cupcakes are phenomenal. I was doing some Worcester shopping today and one of my stops was here as I've never been. I ordered a Vanilla cupcake, Strawberry Oreo and Cookie Monster. My son tried the vanilla and strawberry. He loved the vanilla and had mixed feelings about the strawberry but he is a picky 11 year old who thinks he is Gordon Ramsay. I wanted the Cookie Monster because I love Cookie Monster so I cut it in half and it tasted like a Cookie Monster would taste. Creativity and enthusiasm is just pouring out of this place! You could not meet more dedicated people. The flavors that they come up with on a daily basis are outstanding - Blueberry Pancake with Bacon, Fried Ice Cream, Nutella Banana Bread, Brownie Milkshake, just to name a few! If you don't feel like a cupcake, for some reason, you should definitely treat yourself to a Matilda cake. This might be the most decadent thing in Worcester. It's a two-layer rich, chocolate cake filled with and drenched in chocolate ganache. It's a chocolate lovers dream come true! I am also a huge fan of the Whoopie Pies which have a silky Swiss buttercream filling. The building itself is a historic brick building beautifully restored by the proprietor. To be honest, I am sort of a cupcake snob. I didn't get on board until about 8 years ago, but now I prefer cupcakes over cake and pie any day. I've lived in California, Washington D.C., and now Massachusetts and have tasted a fair share of what the country has to offer for cupcakes. I have found myself disappointed with the majority of the available cupcakeries in Massachusetts. Nonetheless, I followed The Queen's Cups Instagram, and was glad to finally give TQC a try after living here for almost 4 years. However, I was still a little unsure about the quantity of toppings and plethora of icing that all their cupcakes have (I am not a fan of icing, in general). Friends of mine love them (one used them for their wedding) so I was glad to give them a try. When I first stepped into their original (humble) Millbury location, I was greeting by an inexplicable number of diligent and focused employees. They were killing it in that small kitchen! I thought it was super fun to meet and speak with Renee and her mother on that first trip as well (found out later that's the usual). I grabbed some cupcakes for friends, for our house, and my twin girls' had their very first macarons. None of those treats disappointed! I actually loved each and every cupcake (including the chocolate ones - which are never my first pick). We always cut all our cupcakes so everyone can try all the flavors (throwback to cupcake tastings for our wedding). All the icings/toppings were tasty and weren't too sweet or thick. TQC cupcakes are all so fun to look at - and they don't disappoint the tummy, either! Since that first trip we've all seen TQC close Millbury and open their cute AF location in Worcester (I do miss seeing everyone working in the kitchen), I've had cupcake dates with other twin mamas, grabbed cupcakes and coffee to go, and ordered (and thoroughly enjoyed) two custom cakes (so far!) for my family. The Queen's Cups is the epitome of a small, local, family-centered, woman-owned business. I'm glad to continue to support (and enjoy) Renee's hard work and the entire TQC team. read more

I've tried TQC at their last location and enjoyed it then. I follow TQC on social media and seen they were offering a free cupcake and a hug in support of breast cancer awareness month (October). I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and thought this was a really nice gesture. The new location was an improvement. The staff was friendly greeting me as i walked in and helped me make my choice without a hurry. I wasn't too sure if my free cupcake would in fact come with a hug. It sure did.! I met with a very pleasant lady who was a breast cancer survivor. We had a great quick conversation. I left with more than I came in for. I appreciate that they do such things to support breast cancer. I don't leave the house much but I'm glad I did. I've been going to TQC since before they were in Worcester. It's safe to say that each time I go I am pleasantly surprised with each new flavor I try. The variety of cupcakes this bakery produces in a day is out right amazing. If you're not into chocolate they have vanilla, if you want to feel "healthy" about your cupcake they have fruit ones, if you want to almost go into cardiac arrest they have chocolate covered potato chip cupcakes. They truly have a flavor that appeals to everyone's sweet tooth. The customer service is like no other. Renee's mom is frequently working the counter when me and my friends come in and treats us all so kindly. Seeing a genuine, warm smile is not something I've seen on the regular with busy business other than TQC,but just this small gesture goes a long way and makes them stand out. Safe to say I'll be buying cupcakes from here up until the day I graduate and will more than likely still make the hour drive back to Worcester just for these cupcakes even after I get a diploma. read more

Renee and her team put so much love and imagination into their creations--and they're more than happy to fulfill custom orders, too! Not to mention that they once reserved me their dining room for a party after I'd ordered a dozen cupcakes--we had a great experience with them! As for the cupcakes, come early when they're at their freshest (and the line isn't long). I've never had even a mediocre cupcake there, honestly. They all taste amazing and are super creative/well thought out. Admittedly, though, I go often for their non-cupcake baked goods. Their Matilda cake and their cookie dough (or somewhat rarely, brownie batter) cones are the stuff of legends. I've yet to try their mini cheesecakes, but I hear they're pretty amazing, too. The cake is freshly made, their fillings and frostings are delicious and their ability to combine so many flavors is awesome! This place is hands down amazing. First, do yourself a favor and subscribe to their Instagram. The daily posts of the unique offerings for that day are the highlight to my Instagram feed and always make me drool. These cupcakes are beyond delicious with unique and creative flavors. Snickers Cannoli? C'mon - amazing! The offerings change every day so don't get too comfortable with any one flavor but I have never been there when there haven't been two or three flavors I needed to try. If you choose to eat your cupcake in the quaint dining area, be sure to bring home a few because you'll dream of these cupcakes as soon as you walk out the door. We just had a first birthday party for our daughter here and it was an amazing experience! Renee and her staff are so accommodating and kind. Renee was great to work with via email (my preferred form of communication) and over the phone. The main room they have is beautiful and we just brought in some balloons as a finishing touch. We used local restaurants for the main courses and the dessert bar and smash cake Renee and her team created were incredible. My sister tried one of every dessert, quality control!, and they were all delicious. We also had a guest that is gluten free and it was so easy to request a GF option for her. I am not a lover of sweets. I do however have a weakness for cupcakes. When I do decide to splurge one fancy ones I don't make myself, they need to be worth it. Creative flavors with good cake texture, excellent frosting that's not overly sweet, and the frosting to cake ratio has to be right. Treats from The Queens Cups hit on all of these points. Our family has members who prefer chocolate, vanilla, and fruit flavors so we have tried just about everything that has been offered in some form. My favorite has to be the pineapple carrot. I am a sucker for carrot cake and this was spectacular. All the flavors were there, and it all held together. I've never managed to make carrot cake cupcakes myself that didn't fall apart. At Thanksgiving I ordered a dozen assorted as my contribution to the family dinner in another state. People were fighting over them, and making deals for different varieties. I have been asked to bring them for the next get together. As for customer service, I have always been made to feel welcome. I was remembered by some staff the second time I visited and thanked for returning. I don't get there as often as I would like, but it is definitely my favorite place for baked treats in the city. read more

I tried a few different cupcakes from the Queen's Cups with my co-workers a week ago. They certainly make unique and interesting combinations with pleasing presentation. We tried: Blueberry Vanilla, Ultimate Peanut Butter, Lemon Lovers, 3 Musketeers, Very Vanilla, Samoa Cookie, Pineapple Upside-down Cake, and Chocolate Layer Cake. These were left out in their containers on a table for all to share, so they were at room temperature all day long. My only issue is the consistency in their product. Some flavors were amazing and others not so much. The ones that were not so good had dry cake and the frosting was far too sweet. The worst flavor combination was the Blueberry Vanilla one because it was too salty. The best flavor combinations were the Lemon Lovers, Pineapple Upside-down Cake and the Ultimate Peanut Butter. I ordered 5 dozen cupcakes for my engagement party this past weekend. They were absolutely amazing! All of my guests came up to me to tell me how great they tasted. The cupcakes have frosting on top and filling inside but they aren't too sweet. They were decorated exactly how I wanted, which was really important to me as they were my main "decoration" at the party. I wasn't sure if I was ordering the right amount, but the staff was super helpful and didn't try to make me order more than I needed. My entire experience with The Queen's Cups was nothing short of excellent. We hired them for our wedding last month. The owner, Renee, was so responsive, pleasant, and helpful. From the first emails that Renee and I exchanged, I knew that I would want to work with her. After we tasted the first cupcake, we never considered another bakery for our wedding cupcakes! The flavors are absolutely unbelievable. The hardest part was choosing from so many delectable options. Renee enthusiastically made suggestions and validated our ideas while we happily tried more and more flavors. With difficulty, we narrowed it down to six flavors for the wedding: Red Velvet, Strawberry Lemonade, Peanut Butter Hi Hats, Mississippi Mud Pie, Blueberry Cheesecake, Cookies and Cream. There was truly something for everyone's tastes and the feedback we got from guests was overwhelmingly positive. There were hardly any left at the end of the evening, and we had provided quite a lot of cupcakes! I never once had to worry about Renee's reliability with delivery or the quality of the final product. I had brought her my own cupcake liners, but she had also offered to find some that matched our colors/theme, which was great. We rented a wooden cupcake stand from The Queen's Cups for a minimal fee. It was in excellent condition, large (tiers can be removed/added depending on the amount of cupcakes you want to display) and very sturdy. The Country Club where we had our wedding was able to easily move the entire table from one side of the room to the other when the dancing began without any worry of the cupcakes being at risk. The stand can be easily disassembled for transport back to the bakery. The only slight inconvenience was that we wanted a cake on the top of our cupcake stand for "cutting the cake" and The Queen's Cups does not make cakes (as they are a cupcake specialty shop). We were able to find a local bakery to make us a small and simple cake for the top of the cupcake stand without any trouble. The Queen's Cups have very competitive prices and a location in Milbury that is easy to find. The customer service is second to none. I eagerly recommend The Queen's Cups at every opportunity without hesitation! read more

Living an hour away from The Queen's Cups is definitely a shame--have made the drive up there twice within a month because it's so good though!! Both times we tried an assortment of desserts and everything was delicious on both occasions. After trying it twice I would definitely suggest getting a cheesecake, as both times they were awesome. I can't say enough positive things about this bakery! This place is a must visit if you are in the Worcester area. I have visited this shop just to pick up the cupcakes they have on display and have also placed a catering order through them and all of my experiences have been awesome. Any time you stop in you are sure to find something delicious. I ordered a sheet cake for my friend's bridal shower here and the staff could not have been more helpful in placing the order, picking out colors, and generally making sure everything was to my specifications. I would highly recommend them for catering orders. Their prices were reasonable and I would rather support a small business than order at the grocery store. Plus they will help you design something special and unique for your event that you couldn't get at a chain store. I have also been to one of their decorating classes and it was so fun!
