Each food item is sold at a separate counter with a long line, followed by a 2nd long line to pick up the food item. Multiple signs and not removing sold out food signs caused us to stand in 4 lines to buy 2 corn dogs, skipped cider since it obligates to also buy donuts and no corn 3rd year in a row (ironically at the corn maze). Fantastic. Been going here since I was a child, now I take my child! They have berry picking in the summer and pumpkins in the fall along with hay rides and a corn maze. They also feature a petting zoo and a good selection of food. A great selection of old tractors that you can sit on and take photos. Great time and worth the trip. read more

I wish I could separate the pumpkin patch experience from the food experience because then it would be 5 stars. We did the corn maze with our three kids, ages 9, 8, and 6 and it was a blast. They give you little hint cards to keep you moving throughout the maze and you can split it into 2 sections if you need to. We had a great time together in there, solving the clues and looking for "CORNundrums" which were funny puns like corn dog, cow pie and so forth. After the maze, we decided to go to the cafe to get something to eat. This is where our pleasant experience took a nosedive. We waited in line for nearly 30 minutes to order 3 cheeseburgers, some chips and drinks, they only had one register and the girl working there seemed very new and inexperienced, completely over her head. We got the chips and drinks right away, but the drinks were not even half full, my kids literally took three sips and their drinks were gone. My hubby's coffee float was also only 1/2 full (ironically, we later saw the girl who took our order sit down for her lunch with a totally full float later.) So we sat down with our half full drinks and ate our chips, waiting for our burgers... 20 minutes later we notice that several people behind us had received their food but not us. My husband finally went to stand in front of the pick-up window to wait another 10 minutes before the cook finally asked him his order number and what he'd ordered. Turns out the girl who took our order never gave it to the cook, so we were waiting all that time for nothing. They finally got the burgers made a few minutes later and refunded the money for them. At that point, we had waited over an hour for food that was, frankly, disappointing. I would suggest the owners open more lines for the cafe and make sure their workers are better equipped to deal with the pressure of the "fast food" environment. There are several other food booths for hot dogs, kettle corn, elephant ears, etc. and the lines there moved MUCH faster. I later stopped there for an elephant ear and two bottled waters and it took about 7 minutes. After the food, we stopped for a quick visit to the animal barn which was ok, but nothing to write home about. It featured typical bored farm animals in small stalls, off-limits to the public. We ended our trip with a hayride to the pumpkin patch, picked a carving pumpkin, and then stopped at the market store for pie pumpkins and cider. We will likely return at a future date but would skip the cafe completely. read more

Heads up People! A couple things here... 1. This is a farm. In order for it to be a farm, there needs to be dirt. Dirt is where the produce is grown. When it rains, dirt turns into Mud. No they can not gravel pathways so you can pick pumpkins and not get muddy. If they did, they wouldn't be able to plow the fields and plant more crops. 2. This is a working farm. This means that this farm actually produces enough produce that they sell it to your local grocery store! It is still a Mom and Pop operation, actually, the Pumpkin Patch is a multi-generational operation! 3. The Pumpkin Patch does NOT control the weather. It is not their fault if it's muddy. They do not bring out big tarps to cover hay bales or hay pyramids. 4. As for the traffic jams that happen on Sunny weekends before Halloween, please bare in mind that all the best laid plans do not always work out. I know for FACT that the owners of the Pumpkin Patch work closely with law enforcement, their employees and fellow Island Residents. Keep in mind that there are other farms that do not make any effort to fix the traffic issue. 5. Remember to come out and support the farm during the not so crazy days! The Patch has great UPick opportunities, they even have nectarine trees! In my opinion, the Pumpkin Patch grows some of the best Sweet Corn, and they plant it so there is early corn in late July- all the way til November! Yum!!! 6. This Farm is also Home to the Original Corn Maize, not to be confused with the other mazes that have popped up in copycat fashion. 7. Did I mention that when it rains, dirt becomes mud? 8. Luckily rain was spared yesterday to enjoy the afternoon at the pumpkin patch. The tractor hay ride was pretty fun (and bumpy!) and seeing the field of orange pumpkins brings out the kid in everyone. The pumpkins were decently priced too. We got 3 good sized pumpkins for a whopping total of $5 dollars! The farmers market had a lot of seasonal produce which I happily purchased though I regret not buying a pot of gorgeous orange lilies for $3 I didn't get to check out the great corn maze but I'll be sure to do it before the season ends on November 24th. We came out here for the "Haunted Cornfield." I'm not a big fan of haunted anythings, so this was a nice experience. Was that too subtle? It wasn't scary at all. Really, though, I don't mind that. What I do mind is charging more than you should to wait in line for 45 minutes to walk through a boring corn field. I also mind being yelled at for waiting for the rest of our group to get through the line so we can do the corn field together. The market store was fine, but again nothing special. I don't know where they get their produce from, but I'm sure they don't grow everything they sell there. The variety is too wide to be grown at this farm. Ah, the bounty of the autumn harvest. The cool breeze on my cheeks...the piles of pumpkins and squash, indian corn and gourds...the crunch of hay under my feet...wait a sec, do i smell elephant ears? You betcha! Mmmm! That's right folks, at The Pumpkin Patch (note: this is "THE" Pumpkin Patch), you can feel fully enamored with the sensations of fall and have a yummy elephant ear, to boot. THE FOOD: There's a cafe with burgers and sandwiches, but I prefer the outdoor food. They have caramel apples, kettle corn, pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw (my fave), sausages, and various other snacks. If you want to stock up on fresh produce, hit the Market, where you'll find every type of squash, gourd, corn, apple, and sugar pumpkin you desire, plus other goodies (mmm, pickled jalepenos!). The heirloom tomatoes are the tastiest little suckers ever...I always eat half the pint by the time I get back to the car! Plus, you will leave the Market with a bag of yummy food for WAY less than you'd pay at the store. And if you're interested in John Deere items, candles, or farm souvenirs, check out the Pumpkin Cottage Gift Shop. THE ATTRACTIONS: The only ones you have to pay for are the Corn Maze and the Haunted Field of Screams. Now, I haven't attempted the Maze yet, so no comment there. I hear it's pretty muddy, though, so bring yer boots! The hayrides look like fun and if you like hay, you can also check out the Giant Hay Pyramid and Haymaze. There's also some weird thing called the Cow Train. This is truly a mesmerizing sight. It consists of 20-30 tiny, cow-decorated cars pulled behind a tractor of sorts, wherein the driver steers in a speedy, radical, zig-zag pattern to the delighted squeals of his passengers. I've seen people of all ages and sizes in this thing, so give it go, if you're up for a thrill. Additionally, if you're into farm animals (no, not like THAT...hehe), you can check out the giant Animal Barn, where you'll see plenty of cute critters that make you want to eat a pork sandwich or a hot dog. Just kidding, they're really adorable. Anyway... THE PUMPKINS: To the point, finally. There are two ways to pick your pumpkin: 1) you spend a good deal of time in the patch (kind of a hike, but not bad) and scour through the fields in search of your faves or 2) you find the giant pile and the "cashier" sign across from the market and get the goods in a few minutes. I have tried both options. The former is best if you're taking photos of the kiddos (plus, they can help you look for a decent pumpkin), or if you're looking for a green pumpkin (some enthusiasts insist on this), or if you simply enjoy the hunt. For those of you who have never been on a farm, I suggest sturdy shoes for this option, as well. On the other hand, if you just want the experience of getting your pumpkin "at the Pumpkin Patch," but you don't need to actually get dirty, you can go for option #2 and be quite satisfied. This is easier, less time-consuming, and more rewarding. The pumpkins on the pile are perfect (I like alliteration). Either way, you are going to be especially happy with the total cost of your pumpkins...my husband is still raving about it ($10 for 2 small, 1 medium, 1 large). THE TIPS: In case you're wondering, parking js a cinch and there's plenty of it. There are also shopping carts galore for all those heavy pumpkins. You can bring your doggie, too. To beat the crowds, I would recommend going first thing on the weekends, if you must (they open at 10am), or preferably, during the week. Weeknights aren't bad at all, actually. Also of note, I hear you and your crazy friends can rent a "crop circle" to have a bonfire with marshmallows and all...?? Sounds like fun! We've been here for the maze and now for u-pick strawberries. Corn maze is corn maze. You've been to one, you've been to them all. So this review is strictly based on u-picks. We went for strawberries and were pretty disappointed. Small, very poorly managed field near the bard with small plants and more weeds than berries. Lots and lots of moldy, small berries. I get it, you are paying less to do the work yourself. But just seems poorly managed. The girls in the produce stand were nice enough. You get charged for the weight of whatever container you pick in, so be aware. If you chose a larger box than the amount of berries, that's being figured in. We may come back and pick again, just with a different expectation. Or we may find one of any number of other places on Sauvie's to pick at. read more

I think A LOT of people mistake Bella Organics for The Pumpkin Patch. I went to Bella last year, it failed in comparison to here! I loved this place the year before and hugely regretted going to Bella just because they had a groupon. I've NEVER seen a groupon for here. The maize is always well designed and of course it's going to be muddy, that's why you should come prepared for cold and mud. If you don't like mud, don't come to a farm. The market is fantastic! And there's a great selection of pumpkins whether you choose to pick out your own or pick one out from ones they've pulled from the farm. All in all, I love this place, brings great nostalgia. read more

Well the pumpkins are cheap and the hay ride was quite enjoyable especially since the driver purposely ran over at least 5 pumpkins with the tractor. The store however is kind of lame....sure you can get some really really good deals on some vegetables but then they want to charge $8 for a bag of candy corn no bigger than a ziploc sandwich bag, so be sure to check the tags on whatever is tossed into your basket. I anticipated some good ol fashioned apple cider specially made on location, unique the the Pumpkin patch, the kind where you can bring your own jug to fill. I saw the huge baskets of apples but then I come to find Ryan's Hood River Apple Cider, some local but definitely incorporated brew and it just killed me a little inside. Lastly the service was a bit lack luster. In my past pumpkin patch experiences across the Western US I have often encountered people who lived on the farm or at least in the area and they always took pride in showing people pumpkins and getting samples of various goods. This place just seemed so commercially focused, save the low low prices on pumpkins. None of the workers looked like they were anything more than part timers brought in from the city. Grrrrrr....childhood memories were shattered and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I wish this place were more rural, rustic and authentic and I wish that they had real apple cider! I guess I was just expecting something from a different age with a more small town feel. I mean, think I drove far enough out of the city for that to be a reasonable expectation. Time to go to the Pumpkin Patch! I have always wanted to go to the Sauvie Island Pumpkin Patch. It was busy there but not obnoxiously busy. ~First thing we did was the famous Corn Maze! It was a blast....it took us awhile to get through the maze though...it is harder than you would think to get through it. We had tears of frustration from the boys....which made us laugh a ton! My 7 year old dropped to his knees...."I hate this maze". I was loving it! We made them guide us around the maze and they just couldnt figure it out....we also added some drama by talking about the Zombies that come out later at night with the Haunted maze they have there too.....there are a few benefits to parenting, just a few....and scaring kids around Halloween is the best!!! We made it to the Heart of the maze...an actual heart this year, and that was some accomplishment.....but then there is a whole 2nd phase to get through....hehehe....even adults cannot figure this one out too easily. We kept bumping into the same people over and over. That in it own makes you feel even more lost! I loved it....what fun the maze is in all of its frustration and feelings of...."will we make it out of here!" We finally made it to the end....and the boys were so relieved! They jumped for joy! lol ~The to the Animal barn, short and okay. ~Then onto the Cow Train- a BLAST....a must for Parents and kids.....so funny to see the dads in their own little cow for the train lol ~Then the boys wanted to play on the Hay Forts- so we grabbed a Carmel Apple and some excellent kettle Corn and sat and watched them play- break for mom and dad! ~The Produce store is a HIT! Cheap fresh grown produce...spen $5 and got a bunch of stuff...corn, acorn aquash, tomoatoes. ~Last but not least...the Hay ride to go get our Pumpkins! What fun and what a tradition to be had. We picked out a couple of nice pumkins and took the ride back and headed out to the car with our stash! All in all this was a 4 hour fun day at the Pumpkin Patch and we had a BLAST! One of the bigger farms on Sauvie Island, the Pumpkin Patch is a great place to pick berries in the spring (strawberries! raspberries! marionberries! blackberries!), buy fresh produce in the summer, and pick pumpkins in the fall. Plus they have an animal barn and a well-stocked market! We live in La Pine which is right outside if Bend. Surprisingly, there is one pumpkin patch in this area and it's not great, its expensive and it's out of the way. We were heading to Portland for a birthday party and the last 4 years we have always gone to Liepold Farm in Boring. But last year we were REALLY let down. So I researched patches in Portland and this one kept coming up. So we decided to take the beautiful drive to Sauvie Island. First of all, If you have never been here before, dont turn into the first pumpkin patch you see, that one is Bella Organics. Not The Pumpkin Patch. Even though there was a sign that said to keep going, we got confused and parked and started walking around. Thankful for Facebook, I took a picture and it popped up w the Bella Organics name. So we got into the van and drove the 1 minute to the pumpkin patch. And I am SO glad we did! Tractor ride to the pumpkin patch was so much fun! It was stormy and perfect fall weather. Wear your boots and dress your kiddos in old clothes. Bc you will all slip and possibly fall. Which makes it that much more fun. Pumpkins are really reasonable price. We got 5 pumpkins for $15. And they were big! The corn on the cob is $1.50 and so good! The hot dog stand closed right when we were walking up. Take the time to go to the produce market. The prices will blow your mind! We got 4 bags full of homegrown veggies and fruits for $16! We didn't do the maze because it was like a swamp. But maybe next year! Totally worth the drive. One of my favorite pumpkin patches! It's very important for me to actually go into a PATCH. Not just grass with pumpkins thrown about, but to actually go out into the vines, where the pumpkins grow. This is what I want, and this is what this place delivers. I'm also a sucker for shopping, so I love the farm store. Lots of fresh produce and goods to choose from. They have these mini pies, and I swear, the raspberry rhubarb is the best pie I've ever had. In my life. That's saying something. They also have a cute little gift shop and plenty of food stuffs to choose from. Always gotta roll out of there with a caramel apple and kettle corn! Their prices are good, the selection is great, and I love the hay ride. There's also an animal barn for the kiddos (who am I kidding, I like it too). This is THE PLACE to go for produce on the island. They've been doing it for years, and doing it right. They are the ORIGINAL corn maize on the island. They also grow a lot of their own produce, which the other large farm right off the bridge cannot claim (ahem--why do you own a farm on the island if you barely grow your own produce? "Dialing it in" is unacceptable). Despite all the ridiculous traffic that pumpkin season brings for the Islanders, i'll still bike down there and load up on the freshest produce, pick out my perfect pumpkin, trot through the corn maize, and talk shop with all the island boys and girls that work there every season. It's good old fashioned farmin' fun. Oh, and their prices are extremely fair and their produce looks happy and healthy. I visited the Pumpkin Patch last September. I checked their fresh produced and bought a couple apples for lunch. Then I tried the Corn Maize. I have never been through a corn maze before and was surprised at how large it was. It definitely took a fair amount of time to wander through it but I didn't find all of the puzzle signs that are spread throughout the maze. It had rained a little earlier in the day but late in the afternoon is was actually pretty warm and the maze wasn't muddy. read more

The Pumpkin Patch was a fun experience but in the end came off as commercial and somewhat impersonal. Our experience happened on a late Sunday morning. Parking was easy, although we did have to walk a bit. Not a big deal. The first thing we checked out was the Animal Barn. I was disappointment to find out this wasn't a petting experience, although I suppose this is probably better for the animals in the end anyways. Not too much to see here. The pheasants were the most exciting part. Other animals included chickens, peacocks, a cow, etc. Next my niece paid $4 for an elephant ear that probably cost $0.25 to make. It was greasy and overall not a standout elephant ear in any way. However, it was prepared fresh and came out quickly. Next it was time for corn on the cob...yum. Another heavily marked up item. The most terrifying part was the big globs of butter available to put on the corn. Everyone touches the handles provided to apply butter, then touches the salt, then touches the corn. Talk about public health...yikes. The corn was delicious and perfectly cooked. The employees were very friendly too. Time to check out the marketplace! What a wonderfully inviting store. They had pumpkin carving supplies, jellies, wooden block letters, and lots of produce. However, I saw nothing organic. I then asked about the corn and was told it was all GMO. Blah. There did have enormous cabbage, which was visually interesting, but I didn't buy anything due to the lack of organic options. Alright, here we go...the pumpkin patch! We waited in line for about 10 minutes to hop on the hay ride. It was kinda fun...probably worth it. Riding out I was excited to run to the very back of the field to find the very best pumpkins. Trekking out the the back of the patch were the pumpkins were still on the vine was a good decision. There were prime pumpkins out there. I found two perfect ones I couldn't decide between and ended up buying both (medium-sized...only $3 each). Worth going out to the back to find the good ones. We easily hopped on the hayride back and paid upon disembarking (cash only). Needing some more cash we took a trip to the ATM. Terrible experience. $4 charge and it didn't even work correctly during the first attempt at a transaction. Best to plan on bringing cash before you arrive here. Looked at the gift shop. Nice, but didn't find anything to purchase. In the end it was a fun time, but really no reason to return, except for maybe those perfect pumpkins. Everything else was too commercial, unhealthy, and GMO. I made a joke that they next thing they should put in should be a Healthy Eating Education Booth to offset some of the food here. Help, I'm stuck in a corn maze... The maze is actually cool. It's pretty challenging itself. There are no make out areas. So a group of us went to Sauvie Island to try the maze. The lady said it would take us 40 minutes to get through the whole thing. So we charged right in, and got lost. We saw the same group of people at least 5 times. I got so annoyed with the maze that I actually felt motion sickness and wanted to throw up, that's how challenging this maze is. I've decided not to do the haunted one, because I'm sure with motion sickness and getting scared by random things that come up at you I might actually throw up. They solved the mud problem, they added wood chips. If it rains your going to hate it. Steal some corn while your at it too, not that I did that. I wouldn't recommend it for kids, they might run off and you'll never see them again. read more

This was good cheap old fashioned Fall fun. Took the family out for a hay ride and pumpkin patch picking. I always wanted to do this as a kid and much like Disneyland it actually lived up to the hype. We got 3 modest pumpkins for $5 and splurged in the market on corn, apples, yams, and a hat for the little guy, $12! I almost felt guilty how cheap everything was so we stopped into the giant food cart they call a cafe and got some more to eat. My fave farm on sauvie island. Wonderful farm store with fantastic prices! I am always surprised at the check out how little I've spent on bags full of gorgeous produce. They have a great selection of squash. Bulk prices on cucumbers, beans, apples, peaches, beets etc... Lots of packaged goodies. A barn with animals and a darling gift shop. I do wish they had pre made bouquets of their u cut flowers (bee allergy keeps me out of the fields). Very friendly staff and overall lovely experience every time I go. I've been a sucker for corn mazes since I visited the Glendale Corn Maze in Moapa, Nev. for a story I wrote last year. I just moved back to Oregon after almost 2 decades, and yesterday afternoon was my first ever trip to Sauvie Island. Perhaps I should refer to it as "soggy" island because The Maize is a giant mud pit -- the complete opposite of a Nevada cornfield, which is sparse and dusty. Unfortunately Moapa's bar burned down in the spring, but previously you could take a "beverage" into their maze, something you cannot do here. Anyway, they did warn us, yet we weren't quite prepared for the treacherous trek within, and we specifically chose to visit The Pumpkin Patch over Sauvie Island Farms since it is dog friendly. What that meant was we took turns carrying my Pomeranian through a corn field so he didn't get mired in muck that threatened to pull your shoes from your feet. My 12-year-old niece had a great time sliding in the slop, but halfway through my sis and I began to question the fun in struggling to stay upright, especially since she hurt her back and I have a bum knee. I know, bitch, bitch. This probably sounds more negative than I mean it to be; I really did have a good time. It was nice to walk in the sun and fresh air amidst the towering stalks. I just wish they'd thrown down some more straw and wood chips in some places. Afterward, we took the free hayride around the farm, then lazed out and bought our pumpkins from the well-stocked pile in front of the marketplace ($7 for the size you have to wrap your arms around). They also have a good selection of local honey priced at $7 for 32 oz (I use it for my allergies) and ears of corn were 4 for $1. I would visit again in the summer for produce, but I fear my corn maze days may have past. read more

Such a fun place with lots to do (for no charge). Basically, the only thing you pay for are your pumpkins, corn maze and any food you want. All other activities are free (hay ride, small hay maze for kids, animals). The food is good, too! We had a panini, corn on the cob and an elephant ear. All very tasty. Highly recommend! read more

Not just good for Pumpkins! Of course it's great for pumpkins and the corn maze, but in the summer it is one of the best U Pick berry spots around. Blueberries,Marionberries, Strawberries and Raspberries! Priced a million times cheaper than the little containers at the grocery store and soooooo worth the extra effort. The main market has amazing produce as well. Most of it from right there from the farm or the island. This week I got 3 lbs of freshly picked blueberries, local carrots so fresh they still had the dirt on them, yellow squash, fresh green beans, butter lettuce, plums,nectarines, corn and an artichoke all for just 16 bucks!! I heart this place so much. Can't wait to go back in another month and a half for pumpkins and apples! read more

I've only been here a few times (always for the maze) I loved it! So much local fun, even if it's gross, mucky, & raining. Always wear rain boots! This is the one thing I do every year & love it, because it gets me in the fall, Then I get all excited because the holiday season is right around the corner. The corn maze is so much fun. I love their produce you can purchase. They have so much fun stuff to buy from local places. I the most amazing apple cider, & caramels. Both were from local farms they sold here. This is probably one of the best corn mazes around Portland & Vancouver! read more

So sad, The Pumpkin Patch is closing down for the season tomorrow (Nov. 2) and we will have nowhere to pick up our veggie supply until May or June. We've been visiting Krogers and the Patch for the last couple months for almost all of our food in the house! They've got a great selection, and their quality in the later part of the season has been better than other spots on the Island. I can't wait till next spring/summer! read more

We did the Maze, Haunted Maze, and of course rode the hay ride to the pumpkin patch. Both mazes were entertaining and challenging for a couple of 20 year olds, and we ended up with two good size pumpkins for $2 each. Score. They have light food-elephant ears, caramel apples, corn, pulled pork, popcorn. The pulled pork sandwhiches with the apple slaw was the best I've had in awhile, the apples werent too sweet or over powering, and the meat was juicy and melted in your mouth. I wouldn't recommend the haunted maze for younger children or anyone scared easily, there was more than a few times that we legitimately screamed. As for the mud, I recommend going before Portland gets any bad weather if possible. We went the first week of October and had no issues with getting dirty. Overall a great place to go, either with a date, friends, or the whole family. read more
