I've stopped by here so many times over the past 20 years. In the spring it's strawberries; in the summer it's tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, squash followed by peaches and plums. In the late summer the sunflower field is just beautiful and a great photo op! You can pick a bouquet and pay by the stem. Next comes the pumpkin patch and haunted house in October, something the kiddos will love. And adults like me appreciate the pumpkins in every size at great prices. On my last visit, I left with several ears of fresh corn. I chose the bags of corn that were already husked! thank you! Happy to pay $2.50 and get 4 ears ready to cook and eat. They were so sweet! The market is so quaint and in addition to baskets of produce and veggies - this visit they had potatoes, beets, peppers, corn, tomatoes, onions, apples, pears - they have lots of jams, jellies and fresh honey. It's actually hard to leave the fun and laughter of weekly pickups--meeting new and old friends, families with kids of all ages, singles, and grandparents. Zephyr is not like any CSA we've done before. Instead of the usual line of people picking up a box of CSA preselected quantities and types and leaving, Zephyr is community based, provides weekly activities, and there are no pre-sets on quantities, veggies, or flowers. We are able to choose what we want in quantities we will use from a variety of freshly harvested vegetables--tomatoes, potatoes, and onions, but also new and even exotic choices. Each week brings surprises; making fresh doughnuts or cotton candy, picking bouquets; roasting peppers; making salsa; potlucks, making wreaths; swapping ideas and recipes, and learning and trying new varieties of peppers, melons, herbs, tomatoes, and leafy vegetables. Farmer Bryan's weekly newsletter has helpful recipes and suggestions for that week's products. Those on limited incomes should not forego fresh food because Zephyr works with their customers with payment plans that meet the needs of everyone; there are sliding scales, payment plans, and they accept SNAP. Zephyr Farm brings joy, and we all need that.

Last year I could understand that they were new and as such didn't have tons of produce on hand. This year is a different story - every single time I've come in (which is 4 at least) they have had less produce than a VERY small roadside stand - like BARE shelves! Their lack of produce on hand isn't inspring confidence. Case in point, I drove all the way out to a place 6-7 miles from home today so that I could be assured of getting something worth bringing home. Sorry, I tried to hold off as long as I could before changing my mind, but it is what it is. I won't be back anytime soon.

THATS IT. Zero fruit. I would've gotten a better deal buying all organic at whole foods. $30 for two boxes of this, and the regular price would be $60?!? That's insane. Seems they're just using groupon to trick people into buying it, no one in their right mind would pay $30 for a box this size. We all like buying local - but none of us like getting ripped off. I will update with next weeks items, hopefully this experience will be compensated for by the next box.
