When we got there we were greeted by an older gentleman with a white beard. He asked us if we ever been here before and we told him that this was our first time coming here and was recommended by friends. He then asked us to follow him and we walked toward the end of the field to the last 22 rows. He told us that we can pick right here in front of the second row. After picking for 15 minutes we noticed that the berries were small and not as much like the rest of the other rows. We told our son to only pick the big blue berries, he then corrected us right away and said that we had to pick all the blue berries and not only the big ones. Then I noticed that there were 4 other groups (Families) that was on the same roll and side picking next to us that was probably 15 to 20 feet away from us. So we proceeded to move to a couple row in and picked where there were more and bigger. He came over to us right away and told us how come we left and not pick where he left us. I told him that this is U-Pick correct and as long as the field were open I am able to pick in that area at least what I understand how U-Pick works. I then asked him why are people picking here and you want us to pick over there where there were less and smaller berries. I also noticed that the people that he favors or friends and families gets to pick the newer crops and we were picking what they missed or did not picked. My wife got upset and we left the farm. I honestly didn't understand why he was like that cause I read great reviews but we were not about to pick after someone else left overs. I would can tell you that this was the worst experience we ever encounter at a U-Pick place. It's unfortunate and if this was their policies, they need to post this on their FB Market Place or have signs at the entrance. Unfair treatments and practice. Never would come back and would tell everyone to avoid coming here!!!

I'm nearly done with my second year with this CSA and only have good things to say about 47th…read moreAvenue Farms. The price point is a little higher then some other CSAs but the bounty of high quality produce each week easily justifies the cost. This season I paid $540 for a half share; at 24 weeks (much longer then some CSAs!) it comes to $22.50/week. The return is around 10 different items per week. As an omnivore household of two, it is a lot of veggies to get through per week! This year the lettuces, cucumbers, and carrots have been remarkable. We've had some form of garlic and onion almost every week and have had beautiful dill, basil, and cilantro throughout the season. We are just now hunkering into juicy red tomatoes and sweet corn. 47th Avenue Farms has me covered on all my veg needs and makes it so my grocery store trips are quite minimal. The produce is fresh enough that nothing spoils within the week and , if I can't finish something one week, it is still good the next week too. At the weekly pick up, you bring in your own bags and pick out your share. Next to each item is a sign with the quantity you are supposed to take and you get to pick the stuff that looks good to you! Laura and her staff are around to chat with and they seem to do at least one farm party day each season. I appreciate the weekly recipe packet which is full of not only recipes, but also tidbits about how to prepare some of the less common veggies (I totally needed the help with the fava beans). The only thing this CSA is missing is the occasional fruit but with all of the farmers markets around Portland, I can still get what I need.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOVE LOVELOVE LOVEEE LOOOVE! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOVE!!!…read more Was I supposed to say something else? Well, OK... I have a half share...this season it costs $540, so it's a bit of a chunk to come up with. But wowie zowie!!!! it is worth every penny. And this season, Laura worked out a payment plan with me, so that the cost is spread out over time. Veggie pick up is every week in the Summer, and every other week in the Winter. Here is how they do it: A long table is set up under an awning. both sides of the table are decked with the same selection of boxes. Each of those boxes contains its own particular delicacy. We bring our own bags, and load 'em up. The quantity we are to take is posted on each box, and it works on the honor system. (I have only cheated once, and only by a little...OH! fingerling potatoes, you made a cheat out of me!!) Can you say FRESH? I first realized how UN-fresh grocery store vegetables are by the shelf-life of Laura's vegetables. Tonight I made some kale that I got from a pick-up 2 weeks ago. It is still crisp, dark green and very yummy. Another thing? She offers veggies I would never buy in the store. So along with your normal staples like broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, etc, you also get...Rutabaga? Celeriac? WTF is this shit? I'll tell ya what it is: IT'S FUN! I love trying new veggies I've never tried before, and lest you think those super-cute helpers behind the table are just there to reload the boxes, think again! They know a lot about the food being grown, including how to cook it. Did you know that parsnips are good thin-cut and fried? Neither did I. :) Oh, and I have a new love...something I've never seen in the store, they are long skinny, bright red and super sweet peppers. OH THE JOY!!! This place is a total win!

Do not come here. Absolutely appalling animal welfare. I left here genuinely angry and disturbed…read more Other customers felt the same way about this. I have never left an animal attraction feeling this disgusted. The enclosures are shockingly small, and the animals have virtually no ability to get away from people when they want space. Visitors can stand directly next to them, stare at them, and interact with them as loudly and disruptively as they want while the animals have nowhere to retreat to. The pony in particular was heartbreaking. After the interaction, I watched it pace back and forth repeatedly and frantically around its enclosure. It had essentially nowhere to go. There was no quiet area where it could remove itself from the presence of people, and no meaningful way for it to choose not to be observed or interacted with. Watching an animal behave like that while confined to such a tiny space was incredibly upsetting. And this isn't just about the pony. The sheep were confined to an enclosure that looked completely inadequate for them, and the overall setup repeatedly prioritized visitor access over the animals' ability to move away and have privacy. The cows also appeared to have nowhere near the amount of space they need. What makes this especially infuriating is that these conditions are apparently being presented as an animal experience that people should feel good about supporting. There is nothing educational about teaching people that animals should simply tolerate constant human attention because humans want to interact with them. And the fact there was NOBODY inside the barn looking after the animals made me even angrier, I saw a little boy straight up kick the metal of the rabbit cage right next to the poor thing Animals should have the ability to walk away. They should have space to move normally, not in a shoebox. They should have somewhere to retreat from people. They should be able to rest without being surrounded by human eyes and hands. These are basic things you should be able to provide if you want to keep farm animals. If an animal is visibly pacing and has no way to escape the environment causing that stress, that should be a massive red flag, not something visitors are expected to ignore. And this has clearly been an issue for a while, given the review from FOUR YEARS AGO detailing the same things I'm saying here. I genuinely don't understand how anyone who claims to care about these animals could look at these enclosures and think this is acceptable. I will not be supporting this establishment again, and I strongly encourage other people who care about animal welfare to think twice before giving this place their money. Even though the barn is free, I do not recommend spending money on any part of this place. Animals deserve better than being confined to tiny spaces so humans can get an up-close experience. TL:DR: I came here expecting an opportunity to see and learn about animals. Instead, I left feeling like I had participated in an environment where animals have very little choice, privacy, or ability to escape human attention. The pony especially has been stuck in my head ever since. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place. Would leave zero stars if I could.

Go into the shop first to have your own containers weighed. The weight is deducted from berry weight. Then off to pick! They have several varieties. We saw strawberries, marionberries, raspberries, & tayberries. Their signage also lists boysenberries but I didn't see those in the rows. They also offer blueberries but they're not U-pick. Their strawberries are June bearing and were already done by the time we made the trip over.
