We really enjoyed our time here. The food was very good. I especially really liked the pastries. We had a very friendly waitress and sat outside on a very beautiful day. I really liked the environment outside for outdoor seating

I finally made it to Publican! I attended with friends for one of their summer Tuesday night Burger Nights where two guest chefs come in and prepare burgers, alongside the standard PQM burger. So four of us split three unique burgers. Honestly, don't worry about enough fries for 4 because they are generous with their very, very yummy fries! It was a fun experience and great to try chef creations side by side. I'd come back to this, especially since we didn't have to wait for an inside table with beautiful, wonderful air conditioning. It was nice to be able to look outside without fear of the dark clouds turning into a thunderstorm. That shocked me! Service was great, the wine I had was lovely, and it left a great impression on me.

Midwestern farmhouse vibe + simple yet elevated dishes + quality service = this restaurant Apps were all amazing (summer squash, carrots, the mushrooms with burrata were surprisingly my fave) The pickled veggies were unexpectedly one of my favorite dishes, everything was preserved so well and had lots of flavor without being too sweet. The chicken was cooked super nice aka not dry and the fries were yummy and crispy. AND THE CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE CAKE with hazelnut mousse, banana caramel, candied walnuts & banana ice cream...... I will be thinking about this cake for a long time. I would come back just to eat the cake again. I honestly was blown away by this restaurant. It lives up to all the hype imo. And the bathroom was super cool. You know a restaurant is a good one if they have nice bathrooms.

Bread service with flight of beers

Have not been to the Publican in over a decade but is still serving great food. This place, while simple, has a great vibe and a very European decor. We started with the bread service with the addition of the cheese selection. While initially put off with having to pay for bread it turned out to be well worth the price. Great sourdough along with some excellent cheeses and spreads. For a main, I went with the lamb shank and it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Didn't love the turnips but that's a personal thing. Service was exceptional. They let us switch seats to a more private spot without any hassle.

$2 oysters for happy hour

Came for happy hour and the infamous crab boil fries, which was an unfortunate miss for me. It could've used a little more salt and we only had a few shreds of crab meat. Not quite the big pieces I saw on IG. Oysters were solid and the smoked tryout dip was decent. Could've been paired with a less salty cracker in my opinion since the dip itself is pretty salty. Lemon poundcake cocktail was light and refreshing. Not overly sweet. Atmosphere was lively and service was attentive.

Had a girls night at The Publican and we opted for the chef's menu. 4 courses felt like 6. Everything was delicious! We love love the sour dough! Each dish was different in taste and texture but definitely made us appreciate the different flavor profiles. We really enjoyed the seafood dishes! Our waiter was fabulous and personable. Definitely won't wait as long to return!

Happy hour

We were longing for happy hour/early dinner in the area and was pleasantly surprised to see their happy hour menu. We basically got everything on the HH menu, and regular version of the bread and spread instead of the HH version becauseis you know the Publican you know they have good bread. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the chicharron which was hard. Definitely would recommend for HH. Service was great. Vibe is modern farmhouse. If you want privacy or a unique seating, you can sit at the tables along the wall which is like a stable to go along with the theme.

It has taken me way too long to review the restaurant that has, in my opinion THE BEST mussels in Chicago. Listen this is my spot: on a week day, right around 4:30ish.. before the dinner rush ... right at happy hour.. with the duck fat fries and a French 75.. Always attentive and warm service. I've never had to wait for a seat. Consistently an enjoyable dining experience.

We came here on a Friday night as a walk in and we were able to be seated right away. We sat outside and it was a lovely summer night. The place was packed. Out server was super friendly and all the food came out in a timely manner. We got the bread with butter and Barbecue carrots to start. Bother we're really good I loved the take on the grilled carrots. I got the seafood stew and my husband got the duck breast. The stew was really good and flavorful and my husband enjoyed the duck. We both got beers but can't remember which ones. Overall great experience!

This was an excellent meal to celebrate a graduation! They even gave us little glasses of champagne for the table as a courtesy. Really delicious farm to table food, everything coming from local farms. We especially enjoyed the roasted carrots, as well as the mushrooms. My steak dish was a little too rare but still very good. The ham was also delightful. The slices of thick bread were also a great starter. I like the ambiance and the neat seating arrangements they have. Bathrooms were also really beautiful, it sounds silly, but I judge a place based off of how nice their bathrooms are lol. Parking is kind of a nightmare, but that comes with a territory in that area, just leave a little bit early so you can find something. Overall, a great meal.

I went for brunch on a Saturday morning. It ended up being a beautiful day and we got to enjoy the patio. The patio does have a sidewalk through it which is the only not glowing about the restaurant. We ordered the heirloom tomato & bacon tartine as an appetizer. This was unreal. I had the burger and my friend had the breakfast plate. The burger is top notch and I got a bite of the cheesy potatoes which were delicious.

This was my first time to dine at this establishment. We were seated in a pigsty and had outstanding service. Our server gave us great suggestions and was super friendly. We shared the giant cinnamon roll and several other pastries. I had the ham Benedict. An absolutely delicious and incredibly huge portion. I took over half of it home. The service was outstanding and the fun seating arrangement adds to the ambience. Excellent food. Can't wait to return.

Fueling at Route 66…read more.. A famous spot to mark the start at Route 66 is a very busy spot as the line does snake out the door down the block though they do work a system as folks slowly move along it's amazing how the staff work it all. Our table of five was very snug so be prepared to be very close to your neighbor whether you know them or not but the staff does work fast and as a newbie we had no idea what was being placed on our table like a bowl of mini donuts and fruits with various housemade jelly and some butter pats as they drop and go so quickly before we get a chance to ask any question so we need to be fast once they return. Once we made our way in I also noticed some special one that did catch my eye "Route 66 Special Omelette"as this deep dish omelette has mushrooms, onions, green peppers, Parmesan cheese topped with tomato parmesan sauce which also comes with hash browns and choice of toast is quite the feast. First of all love the presentation it came in a skillet and it was the fluffiest omelette filled with so much veggies it was amazing and no there is no way I could finish but it was so good that it was hard to stop as it was so comforting and can see why many come here for a bite. They do have an all day menu if you're not into breakfast but it's really not to be missed as they sure know how to bring on that comfort vibe. Thank you

The only thing I would change is that there were very limited vegan menu items, and in a place like this where you may be afraid to order any substitutes, it would be nice to have a few labeled dietary options. The service is advertised as sassy, and it's absolutely true! However, the staff are also incredibly kind at heart, and are able to read people very well, and match their energy. We brought my autistic brother, and they were very considerate and worked hard as to not overwhelm him, and made jokes that he could understand. Celebrating birthdays here is so fun - there's multiple variations of birthday songs and celebrations they do, and it's all very fun. When they play music, the staff will all do a dance on a bar area and it's incredibly fun! Each person has a character. We had Grant Wishes, the genie, and they were fantastic. Overall, our experience was wonderful and hilarious. I would recommend going in with an open mind!

The diner is quaint, table settings, and booths with I believe a bar. Service was quick and very friendly. The menu is a robust plant-based comfort food. Chicken quesadillas were a favorite. Soul bowl was really good. Who loved my blackened tofu kale and sweet potatoes. The chicken wings, I believe they were a spicy chili sauce, was not loved. It was a little bit dry. chewy, so table didn't love it, but I actually liked it.. next was the seasonal pumpkin chocolate cheesecake. Everyone loved it. It was such a good decision. I wanna say it wasn't like a cheesecake. It was like a very unique delicious version of a pumpkin pie topped with chocolate and the crust was chocolate as well. 10 out of 10 highly recommended!
