Made the mistake of giving these people a "refundable deposit" of 1k after a suspiciously low fiberglass pool quote (makes sense after the fact). After about a month of poor communication and unprofessional behavior I was very hesitant to give them more money and terminated the contract. I called about the deposit and was told it would be issued via check. Over a month later, still no deposit, called for the 2nd time after a month and was met with rude and combative behavior by their clerk Ashley. Wasted enough time with these clowns, handing the matter over to the contractor board, possibly small claims court to follow. We hired Pool Guyz to install a deck, and the experience was extremely disappointing. They walked off the job before completing it, leaving us with a damaged and unfinished deck--and no support to resolve the issues. Communication was terrible from the start. My husband and I both had to miss work multiple times to accommodate their schedule, only to be met with delays, vague responses, or no communication at all. When their team caused damage to our newly purchased deck, they left us to figure it out ourselves without taking responsibility. This experience has been stressful, costly, and frustrating. I don't want a cookie cutter Kidney shaped pool, or a round one, or an above ground pool. Every pool place tries to tell me that what I'm asking for is impossible. But how can it be impossible if I haven't finished explaining what I want? I WILL NOT ACCEPT THAT! I used this company to install my pool and let's say communication is not their best suit. I spend 5 different days staying at home waiting for someone who never showed up. I have been told multiple times people would call me back however they never would. Now I have an on going pool leak that they will not fix and a leak at the motor. I have called about this multiple times and not they have stopped answering my phone calls. I know they are ignoring my calls because when I call from a different number they pick right on up. If you want to get a fiberglass pool in the ground as quickly as possible, then The Pool Guyz is the company to go with. If you want to have a pool project completed quickly and professionally, or a company with good project management and communication skills, then run the other way. We started our pool installation on 2/21/22. As of today (3/15), we 100% do NOT recommend you give this company a penny of your money. Everything started out fine and dandy. Danny showed up a day before the anticipated day of install, only to find that despite his colleague Derek coming to our house months before to tell us we had plenty of room for the equipment, we in fact did not. His excavator was too big for the space we had. He showed up the next day confident that a slight nudge of the a/c units would be enough, and it was. So long to that landscaping job. Speaking of landscaping, we were very clear about our hopes and dreams when we sat down with the main office about what we wanted to do regarding decking. We showed them our survey, and Corey even shaded everything in and scaled it all out. We were getting everything financed, and because of other pool projects and a busy schedule, our landscaper (that they recommended) never made it out to do a final quote. We emphasized that we wanted extra wiggle room in case there was more we wanted to do, such as drainage or additional landscaping, plus enough for PAVERS. Well, when Martin finally came to measure everything out, we were quickly informed that we were misquoted over $10,000. Not only could we not afford pavers, but we couldn't even afford to put concrete down in the areas we discussed. Danny walked through the placement of our pool and hot tub with spray paint and made suggestions on where we should put everything. We all agreed and he began to dig the hole. There were some delays the rest of the week regarding the actual pool and hot tub delivery, which is understandable-- permit issues are out of the company's control, and by next Monday or Tuesday, the pool was in the ground. Codi began work on the plumbing pretty quickly after that, but Danny all but disappeared once the pool was in the ground. This is when everything went sideways. For your reference, the pool went in the ground on 2/28. The week the pool went in the ground, Danny called to let us know that he forgot one minor detail when considering the placement of the hot tub: the blower for the hot tub cannot be too far away from an electrical source, so we would need to put the blower closer to the hot tub instead of near the rest of the equipment. This would mean digging a massive trench along the side of the pool. More money, which Danny offered to help offset the costs of, since it was his mistake. He forgot to tell us that it would look like absolute crap. The rest of the story is a combination of poor quality and absolutely terrible project management. Danny gave our yard e a "rough grade", which apparently means re-using the dirt he dug up originally, to include broken sprinkler lines scattered across our yard and sticking up out of the ground. The next phase of the project is getting the electrician out to do his part of the job. He has yet to be seen, but they've been telling us for almost 2 weeks now that he'll be here any day. Today was supposed to be the day, and when we finally got a hold of my number he had no idea what we were talking about. The hot tub never got fully put in-- we requested to have 18" of it above ground so we could surround that area with stone. The whole thing is sitting on a pile of dirt, unleveled and untouched. Getting ahold of anyone to come up with any resolution is a joke. You just get passed around from one person to another, whether it is Elaine, Corey, or Danny. None of them seem to actually communicate with one another, and they certainly don't follow up on their promises to rectify the problem. Don't waste your time with them, there is a reason they have such quick availability for pool installs when everyone else is on a wait. read more

Terrible company, I spent over $100,000k with The Pool Guyz and now I have to take them to court just to get a issue fix with my spa. My spa floated out of the ground when they first put installed it. 15 months later it has come out of the ground again. This morning Codi from the pool Guyz send me a text message asking for $10,000.00 to fix the issue they never fixed in the first place. The first time it came out of the ground, the pool guys didn't even come back to fix it, they sent the paver contractor to fix it and it wasn't done correctly. It will clearly cost them more in the long run because they will have to pay for everything, spa repairs, hardscape repairs, and lawyer fee. read more

After buying our house last year, we decided that we wanted to explore having a pool installed. We hadn't made up our minds regarding the type (vinyl liner, concrete, fiberglass, etc), so we met with several builders to discuss the pros and cons of each and eventually decided on The Pool Guyz and a fiberglass pool by Viking. From the beginning, we were made aware of the best and worst case scenarios. You never know what you're going to find when the digging starts and our house is 114 years old, so that's a lot of time for things to end up buried in the yard. We also knew that being only a couple of blocks off the Elizabeth River, ground water could be an issue, but we were confident that Pool Guyz could handle whatever situation arose. Sure enough, after only a few feet into the excavation, ground water literally began pouring from the walls of the hole. They reacted quickly and began dealing with the issue and had it under control quickly. Within a few weeks, our pool was in the ground, electrical done, concrete poured and our pool sparkling clean. They made sure the site was cleaned up after the construction process was done and performed a very good grade on the portions of the yard that were impacted by the work so that we could start getting the grass to grow back. We couldn't be happier with the end result and are still adjusting to the fact that a mini vacation is just outside our back door to enjoy any time we want. I would absolutely recommend The Pool Guyz. They have an A+ rating with the BBB and were excellent partners throughout the process. read more

Not worth the $56,000 I paid for it. The pool is nice as well as the hot tub surround, but that's it. (Photos attached). There is cement over most of the coping pavers. Some of the pavers are uneven or have a gap in them. The concrete decking is bad, you can see the brush marks going from horizontal to vertical all over the decking. They glued the pavers down and there is glue stuck to the inside of the pool (picture). They also put a chipped paver on instead of a smooth one. We also ordered a hot tub from them and had them put a stone surround around the hot tub and steps. The stone surround looks great, but the concrete slab looks like a hack job. The concrete they laid for the hot tub to sit on was uneven. So they had to saw off the sides to make it even. It looks horrible (picture). They needed to add some concrete in the front to fit the stairs. The concrete is two different colors, and has no smooth finish at all. The top step to the hot tub is not bullnose like the bottom step. I do not think the Pool Guyz take very much pride in their work. I'm surprised there are not more negative reviews on here. read more

****UPDATE November 29, 2018**** I wish this review could have been more favorable however it is now nearly December and we have yet to resolve the issues from my previous review. The company did however come out and install my pool cover which is satisfactory. ****UPDATE May 08, 2018**** We received a visit from The Pool Guyz, they were apologetic for how the project has turned out/coming along. For now we are working with them to make it right. Once it is complete I will make another review. We look forward to working with The Pool Guyz and give them an opportunity to make it right ***************************** First and foremost I am not one to write a review but hope to help other people who are looking for the right pool company. After all there is a size able amount of money invested in a project like this. Our review starts May 21, 2017 with a "guaranteed swim by date" of June 12, 2018. The "dig" occurred on the 21st and the pool was in the ground the next day. To shorten the details we missed the swim by date and are still not in a complete status as of August 6, 2018. Additionally we were "convinced" to allow the excavator to come into our property a different way than initially proposed. This would supposedly "save us money" by not requiring a crane to lift the pool up and over the house. My concern before accepting the new route was the cost to repair my front and side yard that would be damaged which paled in comparison of the crane cost. I was told by Rick (the owner) they we have a landscaping company that works with us and would be able to "help us out" on the cost. The landscaping company came over, we discussed Rick's proposed route and what it would cost to complete the repairs. Afterwards I accepted and we moved forward. At this point this is where things fall apart. Obviously the front and one side yards are now destroyed due to construction but the crew also used the other side of my yard to stage trash, tree removal and stump. Now this portion of my backyard was ruined. At this point front and entire back yard need a complete overhaul! I will admit that we have had significant delays in rain this year but the rain delays are not what made the Pool Guyz miss our swim by dates. On more than one occasion we sat at our house while an entire crew sat around waiting on truck deliveries for sand, dirt and concrete etc...that simply NEVER showed up. I mean we are talking about a crew of 6-8 people waiting for 8-10 hours before calling it for the day. On a side note I was fortunate to have a lot of time off from work during this project. If I had not the pool install could have been a lot worst for us. On many occasions work was started with no clear direction. Workers would show up (English is not there primary language) and start setting up for something that clearly was not supposed to happen or agreed upon. We had a tanning ledge that was completely unleveled, forms were laid around the pool for concrete pour that warranted more than what we wanted. The forms were supposed to follow the curves of the pool and I missed that detail. I was not at home the day of the pour when they had the forms all laid out. By the time I got here it was too late. I have French drains in the backyard to mange water drainage that were buried on three different occasions. And each time the works and myself were in the muddy yard digging down to try and find the drains. Coping work and concrete were finally poured but the workmanship is very substandard. Halfway through the project the landscaping owner tells me the owner (Rick) is pulling him off the landscape work due to having to maintain the pool schedule. I am not entirely sure what that means or how we are supposed to interpret the meaning of that!? Needless to say after calling no less than a dozen of landscaping companies I finally found one who was willing to do the work. Most of the other companies around VA Beach said they were all booked throughly the end of August. In order to have this company do the work it was going to cost me an additional $4700 over my bid for the work from the Pool Guyz landscaping company. Additional cost that I had not budgeted for and I was not good no to be able to get all the projects completed that was in the change order written up by the Pool Guyz to complete the landscaping. I know this review was rather long. I hope the photos speak to the workmanship and lack of pride in ownership. The owner and the company prides itself on Veteran own. I am an Active duty person myself and all I have to say is there is obviously a lack of leadership and intestinal fortitude to see each project to completion. No pride in ownership of the product for what is happening here or at least to us and our family. POSITIVE-all is not lost we are able to enjoy the pool! We used The Pool Guyz and had our pool installed a year ago. The pool is great but the concrete job was and is completely horrible. The company that the pool guyz contract out to did a horrible job. There is cracking and peeling all around the pool. This has been like this since one month after the pool was installed (October, 2019). My husband has been contacting the concrete company/guy who did the install, Eddie. Eddie just gives excuse after excuse and says he will come out to fix it and never shows up. He eventually ghosted my husband and didn't reply to any of my husbands texts or calls for 8 months. When he finally texted back to say he was going to fix it, he said him and his son got Covid (June, 2020). So, ok...we wait another month. He eventually comes out bc my toddler daughter has gotten injured multiple times tripping on this shoddy concrete. He says "Because you've been so nice, I'll fix it for you". Been so nice? He should've fixed the crappy job they/he did back in October. He takes a look and says he was trying a new technique and shouldn't have done that and he will "definitely" fix it next week. (July 22,2020). Eddie texts again and says "hey we don't have enough money to fix your concrete, we have to finish another job and we will definitely have it done by next Friday (July 29,2020). It's August 8th now. My husband texted again and was ghosted. We very upset and Pool guys never answers their phone. They only answer if you email them that you are interested in a pool, but after that...you're on your own and out $50k+ . I regret going with this company. We are in the process of having a pool installed by this company. We found everyone we worked with to be very professional. We dealt mostly with Danny and found him to be polite, efficient, and very knowledgeable about the entire project. If you are ready to install a pool, we may recommend this company, after all is complete. I am updating my review, and hope to update again. The install went great, and except for the charge of using the crane that was never used and not refunded, the install went well. They did say the crane cost was applied to the machine that was already here and used for the digging. (Not stated in the contract) Now, waiting on the project to be finished.Not receiving any calls or updates as to what is going on. All communication has been on my part. Hoping this improves...I will follow up with an update later. I am updating my review, as I promised. A big shout out to Cody. He was very receptive and extremely helpful with all the above issues. He guided us through the remainder of the install. He did get us a refund of the money allocated for a crane that was never used. I chose a small pool builder who came highly reccommended from neighbors over the Pool Guyz because I falsely believed I would get better service dealing with an owner who does the work himself. Boy, was I wrong. The other licensed small pool builder who had been in business for over 20 years lost his partner and abandoned the job leaving me and many other customers last summer with unfinished pools and not enough funds remaining in the contract to finish. Luckily I scrambled enough money for the Pool Guyz to complete the job. The manufacturer of my fiberglass pool made an exception to honor the warranty if the Pool Guyz completed the work because of their sterling reputation. (The Pool Guyz normally don't install my brand). The Pool Guyz accomplished more in a day than the other builder took months to do. They discovered a host of things the other builder had done incorrectly. The owner took the extra time to take care of me. I received more personal attention from him than I ever had from the smaller company. I cannot stress enough how important it is to hire an established pool builder that you know won't take your money and run. The Pool Guyz do such an amazing job at a reasonable cost that I would never consider using anyone else to install a fiberglass pool. I simply can't say enough good things about them. read more

We had never considered a fiberglass pool, but after discussions with a number of liner pool owners, we decided this was the best option for us. The selection of the pool type and color was extremely helpful as well as the paver options. We were fortunate in that our house and yard was a 100% renovation so there was no chance of damage being done, in fact they improved our situation by bringing in loads of dirt for our future driveway. This company is dig and dump. Ask anyone, especially their employees and contractors The Pool Guyz of Virginia Beach installed a pool for us in July 2021. I knew it was a sign when we couldn't get a hold of anyone when we wanted to spend the 48k we were begging them to spend. We thought it was because they were a quality swimming pool builder, busy and highly sought after. WRONG. They are anything but. They are a money hungry husband and wife team standing by to collect all your hard earned money and run (or vacation). The project was a disaster from the beginning to the end. It's still a disaster today. They literally will come dig a hole, make your yard look like an explosion went off with piles of dirt everywhere and broken driveways and fences, dump a big plastic pool in your yard and you will never hear or see them again. They make sure they are paid BEFORE this even happens - please read your contracts carefully. We didn't and feel like fools, we have no recourse. Corey, the girl in the office was so sweet, we just walked into it blindly. Their own employees constantly complain about the integrity of the owners, so please listen if you are shopping for a fiberglass swimming pool. The lights and bubblers have never worked since day one and they are still not fixed today. They dumped the pool and then told us to file it for warranty repair (when we finally connect with someone only because my husband went down there in person) - what? Okay, we are still doing that and since the day they took our last payment we have not been able to get a hold of anyone. No employees, no owners. Elaine told us the owners will never call you back they are to busy vacationing at their summer home in Florida. And come to find out, that's exactly true. Our pool was put in the ground crooked - yes it was not level. We had to wait 4 weeks because they said they were "to busy building other pools" to come back to us. Danny finally came back and fixed it after a torrential down pour that almost floated the darn thing. They only employ 2 people in the field we were told, to keep their profits in their pockets. They run these kids into the ground and they are hardly able to do the work let alone quality work. It's to late now but I truly wish we had waited for a pool company with integrity that cares about their service and quality of work. If you are searching for a fiberglass pool install please consider waiting the wait, it will be worth it. Other fiberglass pool companies are booked so far out because they are highly sought after, unlike The Pool Guyz. If I can help just ONE family with this post I will be grateful. You don't have to take our word for it. Just do your research and you will come to the smart decision to use another pool company that has integrity and actually cares about it's customers. 48K is a lot of money. I can only imagine the amount of money these people are making and taking advantage of hard working people. The Pool Guyz installed an in ground fiberglass pool for me in Tampa, Florida earlier this year. Their entire team provided top notch, outstanding customer service throughout the entire process. Cody frequently communicated with me, answered all of my questions and personally addressed every item. Their install team finished the pool installation in just a few days even though my yard limited access to heavy equipment. They even painstakingly re-leveled and restored my ENTIRE back yard by hand tool after the installation was complete. When one of the lights had a warranty issue, they had an installer out the same day to swap the light out at no cost to me. On top of everything, they found an excellent local pool cleaner to perform the initial cleaning who I've now hired for monthly service. I am so impressed with The Pool Guyz Company. This is the third pool I have had, but my first fiberglass one. They did EVERYTHING for me. I was nervous about it being craned over my house, but the crane operator was very experienced and so efficient and skilled that I should not have been concerned. I called two times, two days in row and asked for a return phone call. I had already put a deposit on a $70,000 pool (with another company)that was to be installed in June of 2018. I felt like I should have compared it to other pool companies in the area. When I called, the girl I talked to said she was new. It was hard to talk to her due to the crying baby in the background. When I called back the second day, I had to give her all my information all over again. If you want someone to spend $70,000 with you, this is not how you treat them. I never received a call back. I will pay a little more for good customer service! Looks like I will continue to work with River Pools!! If you are in the market for a pool, I would also recommend you call them. I would have to say the install of pool was great Daniel and Josh did an "OUTSTANDING" job and was very informative about the whole process. Again, I would like to say "thanks" you guys ROCK! I only put three stars not because of the installation but due to the communication between your sales representative and myself. I was very clear what I wanted and what I was willing to pay and if there was issues we would have downsized pool to accommodate. And I feel like I was told just what I wanted to hear to get in the door. And when It came to install you persisted that you stated things couldn't happen because of cost restraints when you never mentioned this to me. Sometimes arrogance can get in the way of a positive customer experience. I know my pool may not make it on your top 20, but remember countries are built on the backs of the working people like myself, and we should be treated with the same respect as one of your more important contract that you were so willing to point out you had. read more
