Been here twice. First time pics attached. I'd give it a 4. Food was really good. Service was ok. The servers didn't know things like what brands of soda they had and what kind of bread the sandwich comes on. Forgivable, for sure.
Second time I was excited to share the experience with my wife. It was a debacle.
Walked up and a sign on the door said, "Sold out. Bar open." There was music on a Saturday night (9/19). We assumed they had too many reservations to seat us, but the bar was open. So we walked to the bar, where the hostess told us (in a very quiet voice) that we needed to wait. It is ultra-rare to have to wait to sit at the bar, but we acquiesced. Then there were two other couples waiting before us, so we were naturally patient. Then we were told by a customer that they were out of food and had been for 3 hours. Then the sign made sense. I just wish it were more specific. Then we verified with the hostess if that were the case. Again, in a very quiet voice amidst the loud bar environment, she said yeah, and that she was sorry. She did the things but there was no empathy for a couple who had made a trek to taste the goodness I had earlier in the week. I was embarrassed after having talked it up.
I can't think of a worse thing a restaurant could do than to run out of food at 3:30 pm on a Saturday.
Will we go back? Maybe. That's the thing. What did we do? We walked to the square, walked to Red, and got a seat at the bar. Had the best dinner in Denton I can remember. Red was absolutely amazing! The other couples walked up there too. It was a little pity party for The Pony, but the money was spent at Red.
The average of my two visits is two stars. 4 for the good time and zero for the bad time. read more
