I'm sitting in the parking lot after already getting out. See, I'm back in my car after 1 minute on the property because they don't allow dogs. There's a lovely orange sign that says "no smoking or dogs allowed", because those two are the same thing (insert sarcasm). What outdoor mall in Southern California doesn't allow dogs?! Since mine is a registered ESRA animal, I could have stayed, flashed her badge and been happier having had my companion with me as I explored this brand new shopping center. At this moment, though, I'm so turned off by this, I think I'll take my money elsewhere. A disappointing welcome, to say the least. read more

The no dog policy. Maybe just limit it to no dogs on grass. Or one of the empty stores should be a doggie daycare type of valet so that dogs can mingle separately while their owners dine and shop. It's in an area of Los Angeles that is very dog-friendly. I have to admit, even the Peet's, which is my fav coffee shop, is the ONLY Peet's on earth that doesn't allow dogs in their outside seating. I shop at a few stores in the promenade on a regular basis. Parking can be a bit hard, especially weekends and holidays.

Great shopping center, but tired of it is always crowded and difficult to Park immediately. There is a great restaurant. Modern. Clean.

Fun place for my daughter to run and play on their lifeguard stand. I got take out Mendocinos and Smitten ice cream and ate it on their comfortable lounge chair while watching her. Too bad you can drink outside of restaurant premises. Wish they had a splash pad but they have a nice fountain with fire at night. Lots of comfortable public seating. read more

This is the grand opening weekend of The Point, starting with a Soul Cycle Summer Block party yesterday and a concert in the plaza tonight. This "shopping, dining and entertainment destination" (according to their website) is located on the northeast corner of Rosecrans and Sepulveda, adjacent to Plaza El Segundo to the north (also owned by Federal Realty) but separated by railroad tracks. When I pulled into the parking lot this afternoon I thought wow, they have plenty of parking, but when I left a couple of hours later (regrettably just before The Long Run, the Eagles tribute band, started), there were cars circling the lot like sharks. Their summer concert series featuring tribute bands will be Wednesdays starting August 5. I would estimate that about 50% of the stores/restaurants are open. Quite a few people were dining in the restaurants, and I look forward to trying them. I took off 1 star for the following: I wasn't familiar with most of the stores (except Peet's Coffee, which isn't open yet) and there's a good reason why. The tenants are very upscale for my budget, like a store where the shoes start at about $150. There isn't sufficient parking, at least for the grand opening. Perhaps the novelty will eventually wear off, although I suppose you could park at Manhattan Village on the other side of Rosecrans and walk. There is a nice grassy area in the middle of the property with tables and chairs around the perimeter for watching the concerts. Feel free to bring your own chair and/or blanket, although I recommend a sweater or jacket too since once the sun starts to go down it undoubtedly will get chilly. No alcohol is allowed on the grassy area, but I saw people with picnic baskets. Great little place even though I won't be shopping there much unless I get a huge raise. read more

I was so excited for this place to open and while not everything is up-and-running just yet I think it is fantastic. I am especially thrilled about Soul Cycle and North Italia. I cannot wait to try everything else as other businesses open up. read more

Not impressed by The Point. Restaurants are meh as is the shopping. Find the development run of the mill for these types of lifestyle centers. Nothing to go out of you way for. Also dog UN-friendly which seems very UN-LA. Not worth it unless you like suburban boredom. read more

One star for nice architecture and good restaurants. The rating is otherwise dragged under by the unfortunate dog policy and the wild-eyed property manager's enforcement of it. Having lunch at Mendo Farms when a young man with his baby, pregnant wife and beautiful white lab were taking their seat. The man, who maybe worked for the mall owner, seemed to recognize the property manager (Lisa? Linda?) and called hello to her. She ignored his greeting and yelled at him across the mall in front of horrified customers about having his dog there. Really? She made no effort to be polite or apologize and there were several other dogs surrounding her. Next, we're meeting a couple from Santa Monica at True Foods. We got there early and, at their request, put in their drink and app orders. They arrived with their Yorkie, only to be kicked out of the mall by security. Are you kidding me? We had to pay for our drinks, have the food put in "to go" boxes and go to a public park to eat? When we asked the merchants, they all said that they want dogs allowed, but that the mall owner is being really weird about it. I don't know what the rents are, but I think that the owner would want to give the merchants the chance to serve all people, not just who the mall owner decides is allowed to shop/eat there. I get it if there's a problem with a certain dog or owner, but that's how it should be approached. Not a unilateral ban from day one. This is a grave mistake that will, ultimately, have to be reversed. Curious to know if the mall owner has received other, similar comments and if they're tone-deaf to what they don't want to hear or if they're reviewing their policies. read more

The Point is awesome! A much needed addition to the South Bay. It takes aster many of its OC count parts like SoCo. Lots of fun hip shopping and some unique upscale stores. Great modern outdoor space and lots of restaurants that look yum yay. I haven't tried many of them yet but plan of work my way through the list. The restaurants all have great outdoor space as well and the whole place has a fun vibe. read more

Good variety of shops and a good layout. Great location near us. Spent much more than I had planned.

The El Segundo scene just got a whole lot more interesting. I love walking around The Point to see all the new shops opening up. I've already visited North Italia, True Food Kitchen, and Hopdoddy. Casual or dressy, it all works whether you're in flip flops or heels. The layout of the area is easy to bike to and walk around or drive to and park. I like that they have attentive security guards and helpful staff, it's a wonderful place to meet friends and hang out. Our whole family digs it. read more

Came by this new center on Saturday to see what was going on. SoulCycle and a ton of healthy eats and fitness apparel type stores. Looks like most things aren't opening until October, so I will look forward to being back soon. If you are a fashion blogger, there are a lot of brightly colored walls and good natural lighting for pics. read more

I am so confused as to why the shopping center did not build a parking lot that was big enough to accommodate the commercial needs of this large development. I cannot go here ever I have never been able to find parking even during the week. I highly suggest going only during off hours. read more

Out of curiosity and/or hunger(without wanting to cook), I have been to The Point a few times. I prefer the location of the original True Food Kitchen in Newport Beach, but staff at The Point's TF location was very attentive. As far as the facility goes, I like its simple landscaping and the communal feel. Sure, there are a few nice retail stores, as well. However, I still don't feel that The Point is absolutely necessary. The Edge is right down the hill and just as lively and thriving as it ever was(it appears that way, at least). The land where The Point is would have been better put to use. read more

Went there to check it out and was very pleasantly surprised by the mall. New, great feel and great food and stores. Stopped into Bella Beach Kids and found S'well bottles, kids backpacks, a Halloween outfit and some awesome kids clothes. Check it out! read more

Beautiful outdoor mall with great restaurants! North Italia is delicious! I did not give 5 stars because of the mall not allowing dogs in the outdoor common areas :(. So sad! The restaurant's patio does allow the pups. Every outdoor mall I have ever visited allows our little four-legged friends who are part of our families. read more

I've been here a few times now and going back again to try another restaurant. The atmosphere is nice... I like the outdoor seating areas but the last time I came there were several children running around so not the best location to have conversations and a little chaotic. It seems to be a mix of business and family. This may also be because it is a new area for Southbay residents and they are just launching its opening....? While I like the indoor outdoor shops and restaurants I am not a fan of the parking. Not a lot of access and it is not connected to the shopping in the Plaza behind it with Whole Foods, Home Goods and Best Buy... Nice addition for El Segundo. read more

It's a quintessential modern small mall with beach chic. Great places to eat. Saw a journey cover band here one weekend in summer and they rocked. It's cool how they have colorful street art on some of the exterior walls. We need more of that around LA. read more

great new spot. excellent outdoor area with lots of space and amenities to occupy the kiddies. lots of seating available too for the parents to keep an eye out from. nice restaurants that are currently open. tried all of them so far except the Asian place in front. go figure. our favorite is North Italia. we should get a frequent eater card for them. still waiting on the beer garden and ice cream place to open. i haven't checked them out, but, mama likes the stores for some unknown reason ;). obviously, as evidenced by all the 1-star reviews, this place is not dog friendly. hence my 5-star review to balance out the force. no sweat to me since I'm not a dog person anyway. less likely my kids will step on poop also. well, dog poop at least. parking was pretty tricky when they first opened. then again it was summer for a venue that has outdoor space, close to the beach. weekend nights are a little busy, but, not as much as it was. overall, great place that we'll be frequenting. read more

I was very excited to see a brand new shopping and eatery in the area. We went on the first night that it opened and that weekend. We brought our dog with us and we're so happy that the South Bay finally had someplace that was dog friendly!! Not so much, we went back yesterday for lunch and were told that "no dogs allowed". I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I don't think I will be a regular at the Point and neither will my family or friends with dogs. The South Bay is full of dog lovers and I think this will be a very big disappointment to many. read more

Stores and restaurants are mediocre. Parking is a nightmare during lunch hours. What's really annoying is that their are clean air vehicle parking scattered all over the parking lot but NO ELECTRIC CHARGERS?!? My suggestion is to add chargers in the point so people can perhaps shop while getting they're cars charged too. read more

The Point is a beautiful new addition to the Southbay area. Give me another reason to love living down here. Some new restaurants, some I had never heard of, a couple I have heard of but they weren't close and didn't sound interesting enough to go out of my way to try. This was my first time here so after doing a lap around the place while waiting for my table to be ready at North Italia, I noticed that there are several places that aren't open yet. I am anticipating those places to be open so I can get the full effect. I see a lot of folks are upset by the "no dogs allowed" policy. I do have a dog, but I'm not the owner who takes my dog out with me many places so this doesn't bother me. My only real gripe with this place is probably the same as I have with any other mall, there is too much shopping for woman! I guess since I'm only a man I don't need to buy new clothes. SMH. Maybe our 5th trip. Pup in tow. Had just eaten at Mendo and a security guard stops us, and informs us that today we can stay, but in the future not to bring the dog. Apparently the property owners don't want dogs anywhere on the entire development. Outdoor mall or not. Indoors or out... Just what the South Bay needed. Great mix of restaurants and retailers all in a park like setting. Ideal for meeting friends or family.

Such a cute place too shop at and very affordable. Highly recommend coming. Cute fashion trends and shoes for good prices.

The Point is FABULOUS! Basically, it is the poshest food court around with wonderful restaurants and a few shops around the periphery. It is a beautiful green space area with fountains, sitting areas that are like living rooms with couches, fun LARGE lamps, etc. It is very family oriented with children running and laughing, especially in the early evening. During the summer, the Point has live music of different types and a couple of restaurants provide their own live entertainment as well. Try North Italia (my favorite) for the incredible Italian food (make sure you order the truffle garlic bread). True Foods is a beautiful restaurant with very good food of an eclectic variety. We go there a lot. Simmzy's Jr. is in the middle of the Point and has the best tacos around (also live entertainment in the evening). As far as shops, my favorite is Lou & Grey (great women's clothes), but the ambiance of the entire area is joyful. Great place to grab a cup of coffee at Peet's, sit in a living area outside, and people watch. Very life affirming. read more

One star because I like a few restaurants' other locations. Another star because I have ordered food from a few restaurants. Other than that, I pretty much just stay away. Getting shamed and threatened by a security guard about two years ago still haunts me to this day. Their policy against dogs was unclear. Hopdoddy had a jar of dog treats outside their entrance when they opened. I'd brought my dog with me while dining there on at least three prior occasions, without being told by anyone that this was not ok. I'd also dined at north italia, with my dog, only after asking if it was ok upon making the dinner reservation. They told me it was fine and seated us on the patio, with said dog. Had brought the pup to Shophouse a few times too. Imagine my surprise when I get accosted one evening, while on my way to my car, by an aggressive security guard. After being told that dogs are not allowed, I told him in a surprised manner that I did not realize this and relayed the fact that three different restaurants had told me it was fine. He said I was lying then told me menacingly that he was going to go check security cameras and fine the establishments that allowed my dog. Guess his accosting strategy worked to keep my dog away! I just stay away too!! But oh well, there's no shortage of other places to dine and shop in manhattan beach and el Segundo! P.S. I've never been yelled at after dining at Hopdoddys Playa Vista location! read more
