Mark was particularly helpful in helping us choose the size unit that was right for her things, based only on photos I had taken of her things. He saved us even more money by recommending we take a 2nd floor unit in their temperature controlled building, since we would be going in/out a lot to the unit. Used their truck for a nominal fee to move the things into the unit, and once I got the hang of using the cart and elevator to bring things upstairs, all went well. I recommend using Storage Masters Chesterfield for whatever your outside storage needs are.

And he surveils the on-site folk with his office cameras. So, when you read about the on site mangers being great, they WERE. But they are gone. They also jack the prices up without notice - like Public Storage does. Facilities are just okay. Lots of spiders, insects, frequent webs, and they have had roof leaks. Floors dirty when we moved in. If the owner took a different approach with his corporate management of the place, it would have hope. By the way, the truck is not "Free". That is totally misleading. You can use it for one half day rental period and a limited number of miles. After that, it is costly and they require insurance add ons. Do NOT be misled into believing the truck is there for you to use for free anytime you need it.

Customer service is almost impossible to reach by phone for support. I leased a large unit on the second floor. At the time there were pallets available to help move contents. These have disappeared and I am told will not be replaced. Last time I was there early afternoon on a Friday, a gentleman wanted to lease a new unit but no one on site to help. I told him my frustrations and would not recommend! Also, when I signed up told them that I did not need the insurance, as I had my own through State Farm. I continue to be charged the additional $15 / month for their insurance and cannot contact anyone to help. They say everything needs to be done through the Public Storage app. I could not find a way to correct through the app and finally was able to correct through website. If you call customer service and IF someone answers, they transfer you to another department, where no one answers.

They force rental insurance even when you have it, saying that you can cancel because it is "free"…read morewhen you sign up. But then they start charging you almost $20/mo for the insurance and the only way to cancel is to come in person and cancel. Even though you can sign up and move in COMPLETELY online. This makes no sense. I work during their business hours so I have to leave work in the middle of the day just to go in for a signature? That screams scam and it really seems like something that will eventually get in to the courts to decide if that was a shady business process. The rates go up and when you call to question it, and question cancelling the insurance, they are so extremely rude on the phone. I work in sales, I understand customer service. You can tell they get paid whether they are good or bad, because it was never a good experience when I spoke to someone on the phone. You also can never find a cart. Apparently people were keeping them in their storage units (at least that is what I was told). But perhaps if they had more than one per LARGE building, people wouldn't keep them in their units?? Plus, find a way to keep track of them instead of completely making them inaccessible to people who are in the far back of the building and on the third floor... ugh. It's a clean building, but outside of that, I have already told my friends to never rent from them. Their app that is supposed to open gates and things never seems to work, and twice I have felt locked in the gate because I couldn't get it to open. I've rented plenty of storage units in my life and this has hands down been the worst storage experience of my life.
