They force rental insurance even when you have it, saying that you can cancel because it is "free" when you sign up. But then they start charging you almost $20/mo for the insurance and the only way to cancel is to come in person and cancel. Even though you can sign up and move in COMPLETELY online. This makes no sense. I work during their business hours so I have to leave work in the middle of the day just to go in for a signature? That screams scam and it really seems like something that will eventually get in to the courts to decide if that was a shady business process. The rates go up and when you call to question it, and question cancelling the insurance, they are so extremely rude on the phone. I work in sales, I understand customer service. You can tell they get paid whether they are good or bad, because it was never a good experience when I spoke to someone on the phone. You also can never find a cart. Apparently people were keeping them in their storage units (at least that is what I was told). But perhaps if they had more than one per LARGE building, people wouldn't keep them in their units?? Plus, find a way to keep track of them instead of completely making them inaccessible to people who are in the far back of the building and on the third floor... ugh. It's a clean building, but outside of that, I have already told my friends to never rent from them. Their app that is supposed to open gates and things never seems to work, and twice I have felt locked in the gate because I couldn't get it to open. I've rented plenty of storage units in my life and this has hands down been the worst storage experience of my life. read more

All they do is offer you a good price when you first sign up and then proceed to randomly increase the monthly rates once you are in. Their customer service is useless and not helpful in anyway. Started renting on July 5, 2022. Started moving out in June of 2025. We went to the very well-lit office several times and it was always locked and never staffed. Called the phone number posted on the gate and office door multiple times. They merely refer you to the website or app. We were trying to clarify the move out process. We met another couple that was moving out, and they shared the same frustration. We scheduled move out on the app for the afternoon of July 1, 2025 we vacated the unit and left the keys in the lock in the dropbox. Our auto payment was always drafted on the second of each month. The next morning they very promptly sent a bill for the month of July!!!.... yes, after we moved out! We made more calls and 40 minutes later were connected with a human who only said I must pay the bill. We asked to speak to a supervisor and he said I was not allowed to because I closed my account. It is odd that they could still send the bill. He said he was turning us over to a collections agency and hung up. This is a very poorly managed facility. Beware. read more

The absolute worst customer service you'll ever experience. The light in my unit was not working when I moved in back in December. Continued requests for it to be fixed have gone nowhere in 6 MONTHS, just nothing but lip service. Good luck getting someone on the phone or via their live chat -- they don't answer the phone and their online chat service that is supposed to be available from 5AM to 6PM Pacific time is unresponsive as well. Constant problems with the mobile app makes access difficult and of course constant rate increases make my experience infuriating. It's gotten so bad that I'm taking the time to move everything out by the end of this month. read more

Aside from that, their billing group is absolutely atrocious and once you rent, it seems the rental amount jumps about every 10 minutes and far, far outpaces any index like inflation. If you enjoy the "privilege" (this is what the employee called it) of using a cart to help load/unload items from your vehicle, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!!! Apparently they had an issue with people (was it one bad apple or really a repetitive issue????) keeping the carts in their storage units, so now you have to go to the office (notice their office hours, those are the only hours you can use a cart) and leave your Driver's License with the employee, and you only get it back when you bring the cart back. So no convenient times like evenings or weekends, and don't be late or you don't get your license back. It's completely ridiculous! Punish those who deserve to be punished, not everyone else! Put trackers on the carts and charge per day if they are kept in a unit. Find another way, but this is NOT ok!!! read more

The gate code sent from the app does not work on either gate. There is nobody in the office during working hours, so I can't get in. Every phone number takes me to a call directory or Voicemail at 8:30am on a Saturday. This place is a complete bait and switch! I moved in at a reasonable rate but within a month it doubled without notice or reason! They make your due date the 1st of the month and if you pay a few weeks later due to pay checks paying twice a month they tack on fees that doubles the fee again and then they threaten to lien the unit! No way to speak to customer service .. the ladies at the front office are not too blame! They help you with the little control they have! False advertisement. Workers in office never present. Nobody answers the phones. Customer service chat is useless. Kept my account running even when I moved out. Sent me to a debt collector for money they refunded me. Rented a storage here for a month. Advertised price was $19. When I checked out, move in fee of ~$20, lock fee of ~20$, mandatory insurance, and all kind of other fees were added for a final cost of $70 dollars or so. Ok, fine. At my move out date, I go in the office to sign out and. It was during work hours but the office was locked. I called the phone 3 times, nobody picked up. I went to the office again 30 minutes later - nobody was there. I called again, nobody picked up. This time I left a voice mail. Later in the day, a guy called me back and I said I am good to go and I all have to do is remove the lock, which I had done. Then a few days later I got charged another $40.83 for the next month. Not only I was charged for the next month, but I was also shown a ready bill for the month after, just to get me prepped for it. I spent 4-5 days calling in the office, talking to the live chat people, and calling the district manager (whose phone I was given from the chat people). I left a voice mail and days later I got a call. Several days after they sent me a reimbursement check as they had already charged me through auto pay (which I didn't sign up for, so they either always try to leech money or scammed me; I haven't had auto pay for anything in my life). So, good. I got my money back and the account was closed. Yes? No. Today (09/25/21) and 2 months later, I am getting a letter from a debt collector for the same $40.83 that they had previously refunded me. The letter was sent two weeks before that, but of course, it just now showed up in my mail since there is a 30 day deadline to fight it back, otherwise you admit the validity of the debt, so another scam approach. I texted the live chat and they told me "Call this number on Monday" and I asked what's the point of the chat if every time I asked them something they just show me the number on the website. She said the chat is not for closed accounts and blocked the chat. The previous 4-5 times I talked to them my account was open and all they did was say "Call the number of the office". Now I am expected to go to work on Monday and tell my boss I need 2 hours to hang on Public Storage's broken phone lines to beg to be removed from their debt collector's list for money they refunded me and now are asking back. The funny thing is, the debt collector letter claims they will do me a solid and be fine with only half the payment - yet another scam. All around, this place is a total disaster. I only kept stuff worth of $300 bucks for two weeks in their storage and ended up with 4 months worth of trouble. I have two units at Public Storage; a small one and large one. March 1st I paid for both and on March 4th I had moved out of the small one. I had asked if they could put a credit towards my existing storage as I vacated the smaller unit on the 4th. I received a voicemail message that ...... Public Storage does not work that way! They do not give credits.. I worked my tail off to be out by the 4th and paid so I could get into my unit to vacate it! read more

I am a new customer and I was given Excellent service!! Highly recommended if you need a climate-controlled location. They have restrooms, drinking water location, push carts (major plus!!!) and a freight elevator that could fit almost anything. Overpriced for what you get but the upside is they usually have vacancies. My unit is infested with spiders, bugs, mice, and always wet. Water comes in under the door when it rains. There are no lights. They charge you for insurance (mandatorily). Which should be illegal considering homeowner's/renter's policy covers contents and dual coverage only allows you to make one claim on the item so it's essentially profit for Public Storage and a Potential Class Action Law Suit. read more

This place have bad customer service from the property manager up to the senior district manager. It took me going to the BBB to get a response with a complaint I had. They dont return your call unless you constantly contact Public Storage customer service or go to the BBB. Also, they have break in's and change their gate access hours but dont inform their customers. They say it's nothing they can do about that. So if you as a customer value this type of behavior, this is the perfect facility for you. read more

"Unfortunate customer relations bungle on the part of PS Management" Yesterday, after 35 months of renting three large lockers & after spending over $25,000.00 to this company, I asked the on-site manager if she could give us a 2 day cushion in emptying the third locker as I am disabled and had logistics issues in getting a couple of strong youngsters to finish the job till the weekend. She noted that their company policy would not allow her to do that but because I had been such a valued customer for so long, she volunteered to call her district manager, Dan Frohock, to see if he would authorize an exception. I was filled with optimism for the five whole minutes it took her to return my call. He said no. I then spent three hours trying to speak with anyone in CA at their corporate office in an attempt to find a real person who valued good customer relationships. Those three hours would have been better spent playing miniature golf. Because of this absolute inability of any management personnel to recognize that not only can exceptions be made, but that there are times when it would just be the right thing to do. Now instead, Public Storage has a long time customer who will not endorse them to friends, will not sing their praises and will never do business with them again. But I will devote myself to making sure that EVERYONE I know understands that they should never give any business to Public Storage. It's simply a shame. (It should be noted that the on-site management, Maryann, cannot be faulted here. It is the completely tone-deaf corporate management who doesn't care about good customer relationships and cannot see the benefit of "word of mouth", even in today's world. Quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I saw online that I could rent a 5x5 unit for $37 per month. They were open until 5 so I got there around 4:10. I walked up and tried to open the door and it was locked. Looked inside and saw an employee sitting at the desk. She looked at me and went back to what she was doing. I noticed a sign that said somebody would be back at 4:15. I went back to my car and waited until 4:15 and again tried the door. Still locked, still sitting at the counter looking at me. I waited a couple more minutes and was just about to leave when I saw her open the door. I went in, and it was obvious she was annoyed that I was even there. she asked "what do you need?" I stated I needed to rent a storage space. She apparently had a personal call on speaker because she shouted " I'm gonna have to call you back. I'll try you at home and if you're not there I'll call your cell phone". She then asked what I was planning on storing. As I began to answer, her two small children came out from the back and she began yelling at them to "stay back there". I told her I needed a 5x5 and she said it would be $49. I explained that I saw online it was only $37. She responded with "that's online that ain't here". Again her children came out and she screamed at them "I told you to keep your asses back there".
