TLDR; Visit the downtown location for better service, we received some of the worst service we've had in years this past weekend. We have been fans of Pizza Joint for two years frequenting both this location and the downtown one. They have great pizza and before this past Saturday we always had decent to great service. Unfortunately, the service we received Saturday night was some of the worst I've ever had leaving the entire table in shock. I'll make a very long story short and give the last part that left such a bad taste in our mouths and frankly embarrassed that we had taken guests out of town here. We had some generally bad service especially for an basically empty restaurant (us and 1 other currently dining table in the whole place minus a few bar patrons). When we went to go pay the bill out of the 5 of us, my bf and I paid together with card, 1 other paid with card, and two paid with cash. Our server collected the cash first (where one our friends told her to just keep the change since she didn't have her wallet and didn't want to carry the loose change) and then came back a little bit later and picked up the cards. When she came and picked up the cards, she stopped and asked us all what we did for a living, this seemed a bit odd to us since she hadn't tried to talk to us the entire time other than now. We went around the table saying what we did with one of us saying they worked in a restaurant and the another saying they worked at Vogle. She waits until we all answer back and says "Oh so you (the friend from out of town who works at a restaurant) know how difficult it is working in a restaurant, how hard of a job it is since you don't make a lot" (All of this in an incredibly condescending tone by the way). Before anyone could reply she starts handing out the cards and goes "Well maybe you Mr. Big Vogle Man can help your friends out since 37 cent is not acceptable." and turns around and walks off. We were all left stunned, we had discussed while we waiting what we should tip since the service was god awful but the table was in majority to tip above the expected amount since thought she was just having a rough day, that is until she said that. As we left she yells to us to "I hope y'all have a wonderful night!" super condescendingly and proceeds to bust out laughing with another employee as we leave. I'm all for being petty where petty is due but all this server did was lose a tip other than the 37 cent, leave our out of town guests questioning why we took them to such a rude restaurant, and left my bf and I never wanting to visit the Evans location again. Tip: the wait might be slow at the downtown location but at least they're nice there. **Also posted on Google** read more

My husband called in a pizza and then went to pick it up. Once there the hostess told him to go to the bar to get the pizza. He waited at the register until his turn. Both waitresses look at each other a said, "He don't speak English you take care of him". They bickered back and forth deciding which one would serve him not realizing that my husband spoke English. He told them "hello" I can hear you and I speak English with NO issues. Is this the way customers are treated? No respect only assumptions. NEVER WILL WE GO BACK... Bad business. I have never eaten the pizza here; for which I have heard mixed reviews. The reason I have not tried their pizza is because my family has gone their twice to eat--and after being seated by an uninspiring staffer... never had their order taken. We sat for 15 minutes, each time. Ive been there for beers several times , though never by my own choosing. They do have a decent beer selection--but the bartenders weren't the kind you tip more than 15%. Aloof, slow and dull service. Their only saving grace is that they are open 1-2 hours after other places close... so i can scarf down a few more drinks. As a former bartender and very gracious tipper, I save your money for someplace that cares about your patronage. read more

Dropped by with friends after seeing a movie at the theatre across the street. We were about an hour away from closing time, but still received good service. However, we were seated by a door in a peculiar shaped booth which was not ideal for a party of four. I had the Tree Huger pizza slice without onions. I thought it was good. This was my first time at this Pizza Joint location. The restaurant is huge. The bar is also pretty large. They have an outdoor dining area that I'd love to enjoy when the weather gets warmer. Parking was easy breezy. The slices are huge. Use your hands and don't cut your pizza like a certain Yelper that shall remain anonymous. read more

Used to be our favorite date night spot. Much of the recent reviews are accurate. I think it's mostly just a kitchen issue, slow food and inconsistent. It could be fixed and get them back on top, but they better hurry. I always thought the bar crew were great, the table staff is always busy as heck so it takes longer to get stuff out to you. Good beer selection but wine selection isn't that great, which you would expect I guess. And usually the reds have been open for weeks so unless they pop a fresh bottle don't bother with those. read more

Pizza is good, but the service is abysmal. Went in and sat at the bar to eat while I watched a game and had a beer. The food was good, but it took a pretty long time to get my food. Was not impressed, but I placed a call-in order a while back and things went well, and I liked the pizza, so recently we decided to eat in. Horrible experience! Sat at the table for all of an eternity before they even got us drinks. Then another eternity to take our order, and twice all that time to actually get our pizza to us (which required me to track down the waitress and ask her what was up). Overall, we were there for over an hour before the pizza even made it to our table. Rediculous. Mellow Mushroom has comparable pizza and WAY better service. It's a hop, skip, and a jump up Washington so, save yourself the hassel and get your pizza there. Pizza Joint just doesnt care about the customer. read more

Update!!! Pizza Joint has gotten their Mojo back! There are new processes in place at the bar to track who has been served and who has ordered. The food is hot and delicious again! I am so thankful things are back to normal. Servers and bartenders seem less stressed out. I want to love this local pizza joint. I have been going here for about two years. The atmosphere has changed particularly in the bar area. It just doesn't feel fun anymore. The bartenders seem overwhelmed and very irritated. It can be a struggle to get noticed at the bar which doesn't make sense when it should be easy to just walk down your half of the bar and see that four or five people have no drinks in front of them. What happens is the bartenders walk by quickly and avoid eye contact with people waiting to be acknowledged. When you do get served you feel like you are annoying them by being at the bar. I had to quit ordering slices of pizza because they were room temperature. I feel like when I bitinto a pizza fresh out of the oven it should be almost too hot. read more

We used to go to the Pizza Joint downtown all the time, moved away and came back for a visit. We were in Evans, starving, and the kids were wanting pizza, so we decided to get some good pizza at the Evans Pizza Joint...big mistake! First red flag was there were only a few tables filled, but the group of 6 in front of us were told it would be a 25 minute wait!! We were sat immediately (2 adults, 2 kids and a baby). We were waited on pretty quick and didn't have a chance to look over the menu, so we just ordered the fried mushroom app and two kids pepperoni slices to get started quickly. We let the server know the kids were starving so we wanted their food as quickly as possible. The server was nice, brought the kids Shirley Temples, but had forgotten her pad when she brought them, so she was trying to remember our order...we added 4-5 toppings to different slices, so I asked her if she wanted to grab her pad, she did and apologized - up to this point, no issues... And then we sat.... And sat... And sat some more... The server would look at us and look away, going around a different way to avoid us while she was seated at other tables. And still we sat...no info, no excuses, no apology, no interaction at all... Other tables were getting their food...we noticed the pizza didn't look like it used to..it was thick with a fat crust...another red flag? Maybe...we will never know, since we never got our food. We were also told the slices were about half the size they used to be...again, no idea if that's the case or not. After 45 minutes, we finally got the mushroom app and were told the kids slices were in the oven and it would be about another 10 minutes on the other slices! I asked to see the manager. My husband watched the server talk to the manager...then the manager went to the cooks...finally, after 5 more minutes, the manager comes over...but I was done by then. I had popped one mushroom in my mouth and it was like shoe rubber dipped in batter and barely fried...completely inedible and I was starving! When the manager came over, we were already packing up and leaving...my 3 year old was crying like crazy because she was starving and wanted pizza...it was awful. The manager started by apologizing and asking if she could do anything. I said we've been waiting for kids pepperoni slices and fried mushrooms for over 45 minutes...she then proceeded to tell me that everything is made fresh...ummm, excuse me?? So every other pizza place in the country is capable of getting whole pizzas, pizza slices, fried apps, and any other food out of their kitchen in under 20-30 minutes, but the almighty Pizza Joint "makes everything fresh" and therefore it takes over an hour!! That's right...an hour and NO FOOD. An hour with less than 1/3 of the tables filled and no food. An hour and barely a response from our server and then we are told they make it fresh?? Bullshit. They were slices of pizza. Even if you had to make the whole pizza, then cut it, add our toppings, and cook it again...yeah, 20 minutes, TOPS. With a practically empty restaurant. I don't know if the server forgot to put our order in or it fell behind the oven or what happened...why? Because I was told they make it fresh. I've waited tables for many years. I know shit happens. I can roll with that. Just be straight about it. I cannot listen to bullshit. I'm not an idiot. Regardless of what the issue was, that manager was in the wrong. Making food fresh is NO EXCUSE. For future issues, put a little pep in your step before the customer gives up on thinking you are coming, OWN THE ISSUE - don't make a stupid excuse about it being fresh, and act like you actually give a crap about a customer walking out!! We wish we had a chance to try the pizza...looks like it's changed. Used to be good. Definitely avoid the fried mushroom appetizer...just awful. I'm guessing our issue is probably pretty common because that manager was not even a little upset...or maybe it never happens and so she just had no clue how to address it? I don't plan on ever finding out if that was a singular or recurring problem. No Pizza Joint in our future... read more

This place right here, in comparison to other places located in and around Augusta that claim to serve pizza, beats them all hands down. Every single time I'm in here, I get the feeling that for just a minute, I'm back in southern Connecticut, watching the big unibrowed Greek guys spinning the dough while my dad and his friends down pitcher after pitcher of beer and debate which engine would make their Camaros run better. My most recent trip here was well above par for the course. After being greeted by a more-than-friendly bartender, we were served an ice cold pitcher of beer. After another 15 minutes, we got our food. The time in between the pitcher and the food was spent emptying the first pitcher, while deciding what to get for the second pitcher as they have 56 beers on tap at this location. I can't give this place five stars because the by-the-slice pieces of pie are sadly reheated pieces of cheese with toppings added. As far as beer and sitting with your friends to have a good night out, there simply isn't a better place to do it. Sit at the bar if you intend to drink until the bartenders need to call you a ride, inside if you intend to drink moderately, and on the patio if you are looking to have a few while enjoying some company. (They also have a full bar with fairly knowledgeable bartenders.) read more

Bleh. Came here tonight visiting my family members from Charlotte and left wanting more. The place was packed but the wait was only about 15minutes. The menu is small but simple. Overall, the food was pretty good. A family member got the spaghetti kids meal with meatballs... It arrived with no meatballs. When she got her correct plate, her food was not hot or even warm. And then we had to ask for her garlic rolls and the server kept telling us that her meal did not come with them even though the menu clearly stated that it came with garlic bread. Whatever, dude. Everyone else loved the Stromboli and Pizza though! I got "The Stromboli" and added spinach- Delicious! The service is why I give it 2 stars. The hostesses are not very accommodating- I mean atleast fake a smile. Our server wasn't very attentive to refills and it took us15 minutes from the time the last person ate to get our check. I guess our server went on break but someone else should've covered his section. read more

Ordered a Motor Head pizza to go. The pizza was ready by the time i got there and piping hot. The bartender was kind and took care of me right away getting my order. The pizza was cheesy and the sausage and pepperoni were nice and seasoned. The pizza was a deep-dish style pizza with a generous topping of cheese and red sauce. I would probably try this place again. Im not sure how it compares to the other pizza locations as i am just visiting Augusta for a couple of weeks. But it's a fine alternative to the big chain pizza restaurants read more

Solid beer list-- one of the best I've seen in the Augusta area. A lot of craft beers on tap. Bland, doughy, lukewarm slices took 40 minutes to come out. Server only acknowledged the 40-minute problem when we mentioned something--basically left us waiting and wondering during that time. I was expecting a lot more from the food based on past experience with the downtown location. One is not supposed to wish to salt one's pizza to try to give it some flavor. Major fail. So maybe go if your object is good beer, but I wouldn't expect this place to satisfy your craving for delicious pizza. Next time I'd grab a carryout from a chain (def. not any worse than Pizza Joint's pizza) and some brews from the store, or just pick another place to avoid the disappointment. Whomp whomp! read more

Worst. Service. Ever. And we were sitting at the bar! The bartender dropped our salad to split in front of us and disappeared for 10 minutes while we were waiting for our second bowl and second dressing serving. Then another bartender dropped our slices in front of us and ran off without giving us cheese and crushed peppers. To top it all off, the pizza slices had sat on the warmer for so long that the crust was hard and the cheese was hard as well. We had already sworn off the downtown location and we are pretty sure it was our last trip here. We tried again because of a manager's request. We were concerned when the bartenders needed a kick in the butt to get our first beers. But the waiter took great care of us and the pizza is as good as we have ever had at either location. We will come again, but not when they're busy. 3 stars. read more

I took my family to eat at this restaurant on a Monday night. It wasn't too crowded but still had quite a bit of business. We used a "rear" entrance to come in, luckily, because the main door was shut and not in use. This is a good sized place and we walked through to the main entrance where the host/hostess was. They turned around and sat us where we started. A mini marathon. Once seated our waitress came right up and got our drink orders. That was the end of our prompt service. We had ordered three spinach side salads which took 10-15 minutes to get to us. They were very good with fresh ingredients. The candied pecans added a great flavor. I would recommend this salad. For our main dinner we had one large pizza, a dinner sized spinach salad and one stromboli for four of us. It is quite pricy as we paid ^$70 for our meal. I was shocked the pizza was around $26 itself. My daughters dinner salad came out prior to the hot food. This was somewhat our fault as we did order them at separate times. However, we specifically asked for them to come out together. The pizza was very good but took forever to get to us. We waited no less than 45 minutes for our hot food to come out. My wife and I had a half Hawaiian and half combination with jalapeños added. It was a great pizza with a very good sauce and fresh ingredients. The waitress we had was not very efficient while serving her tables. As I stated, the restaurant has a very large footprint and our server had the five tables farthest from the kitchen. Instead of consolidating trips she would manage one table at a time. Two of her five tables stayed filled with dirty dishes for almost the entire time we were seated. I had a view of the kitchen area and could see our server most of the meal as she would flirt with cooks or talk to other servers instead of tending to her guests or cleaning tables. Unfortunately two of our servers friends were seated in our section so she devoted much of her time to them. She actually pre-bussed their table and it was almost clear when they left. You couldn't say that for ours or the two other dirty, empty tables in her section. Overall the food is excellent. The reason for the three stars was for terrible service and a very long wait. I'm sure not all the servers were like ours so I would go back if I wasn't starving and needed to eat right away. read more

The place has a nice atmosphere and on a nice day good outside seating. Good was average, marinara sauce had a smokey taste to it not really Italian. Overall it's a good place for a quick bite but nothing special read more

LOVE their pizza & atmosphere . I usually order to go and my pizza is nice, fresh & hot every single time ! The only reason I gave a four is because every time I get veggies on my pizza , it's as if they are just raw veggies thrown on top of the pizza after it comes out of the oven ! I look forward to trying other food from here one of these days but their pizza is ALWAYS delicious ! read more

Probably one of the better pizza experiences I had while I lived in the Augusta area. Admittedly I purposely tried not to eat too many pie's there. Being from the Chicago area I find I'm pretty fickle when it comes to pizza. I suppose I'm an elitist in that way. The pizza's are friggin' massive. One slice is pretty filling, two if you really like yourself some pizza and an overstuffed belly. I've seen people eat more though. The service is...subpar. It takes a while to get your pizza, which is understandable, as the place is usually packed (including sometimes LONG waits on weekeneds), but even if the cook time is understandable, it still takes overly long to get refills on your drinks. They accommodated moderately large groups (8-10), but the wait was usually longer. The bar is pretty stacked which is a plus, and I'd say the pizza but not the alcohol is relatively inexpensive for the portions. As I said it was probably my favorable "pizza joint" (see the play on words) experiences while I lived there, but I honestly didn't try all that many pizza places while there. I heard from others though, that there was better out there, somewhere. read more

We have gotten take out before on a friend's recommendation and it was good. Really good in fact. We actually visited this time with a friend from Indiana and had a great time thanks to our silly and fun waiter, James - as well as the hot-yaki wings (not on the menu - but still best wings I have ever had!). I was excited to try this place after reading the reviews but was highly disappointed in the pizza. I also ordered the fried macaroni and cheese appetizer which was pretty good. read more

"It's going to be a whole lot more time." This was the response to a question regarding the status of entrees after 40 minutes of waiting. That should tell you how this review is going to go. Saturday night around 7 pm with a party of nine is the background for our visit to Pizza Joint. With no reservation we knew it was going to take a while, so 30 minutes isn't outside the realm of expectation. However, once seated, things didn't speed up from there. It took a while to get drinks, then the appetizer took 20 minutes followed closely by the salads. So now we're at the aforementioned 40 minutes whereat I ask when our entrees were coming out. "Oh, yeah..it's going to be a whole lot more time" was the response. First time in my life anyone has told me that at a restaurant. Thankfully it actually wasn't that much longer. Was the wait worth the delicacies that followed? Ah, no. It was pretty standard food: I had the Deluxe Boli...shmeh. The pizza looked greasy. And the garlic knots were pretty tasteless with a red sauce that probably came out of a Chef Boyardee can. Lots of time and minimal taste buds? Here's your place. read more

The pizza was ok. A little too soggy and greasy for me. The garlic knots were really good, but you only get 5 and a few of them were hard as rocks. The sweet tea was really good tho. Bottom line up front: I do not recommend this place and we do not plan to go to this place again. We were seated promptly in a seat very close to the bathroom (we didn't realize how close we were to the can). The waitress came over and asked for our drink orders. The drinks came out relatively quickly. They had a good selection of beer on tap. Something that should satisfy every taste. We made our order and that's when it all began. Over an hour before we received my calzone. I waited to eat because I was waiting for the rest of my family's food to arrive. 30 minutes later, the one slice of pizza my wife and daughter ordered showed up. Then about 15 minutes later the flatbread my other daughter ordered showed up. I'm not exaggerating on the time, folks. It was bad form. Once we got the food, my entire family and I agreed that it was ok, at best. My wife's slice of pizza was luke warm - the tomatoes on top were actually cold. My only hope is that it's better the second day. Overall, this was a disappointment because I had heard such good things about the place. The wait staff was ok - they apologized for the delay - but by that point, we had already decided it was time to go. Again, I won't be going back again. There are far too many other places in the area to take the risk on a crappy dining experience. read more

I do have to stick up for the Pizza Joint in Evans - I've been many, many times. To be fair, it has been a little inconsistent, but the good days greatly outnumber the others, and it's greatly improved from where it was two years ago. Most notably, the pizza is leagues better. Best when fresh; my advice would be to get a slice or two of the specialty pizzas, or to get a 20" pie - most likely to be hot and crispy. In particular, the Chicken Diane has never disappointed. Portions are great; by the slice here size is roughly twice the size of a normal slice. The bartenders are nice; very knowledgeable and not condescending about it. In terms of speed and attentiveness, they're par for the Augusta area. Beer selection doesn't disappoint. In short - every once in a while, there'll be a bad day. I heartily recommend giving it another shot; let your server or bartender know when you order, if your last trip wasn't so good - they'll very likely make sure to take care of you. The aquarium's cool, too. read more

First impression. The service is extremely slow; I was warned about this which is sad. First time I visited, the bar area was 1/3 full, it took about 8~10 minutes to get waited at the bar, one of the bartenders (bartender #1) was literally in front of me cleaning behind the counter! She did not even acknowledge me, not even to say I would be helped shortly. Then a second bartender (bartender #2) arrived and took my order. No problem with the food or drinks with her, its bar food and she was helpful too. After I was settled with my drink and food, bartender #1 decided to be friendly (with a smile even) and speak to me, mainly to see whether I was ready for the check. I returned the same courtesy to bartender #1 and waited for bartender #2 to help me. The pizza was decent, the sauce a little sweet but not bad. Opt for a pie over a slice. Because of bartender #2, decided to return another time. It was similar but a minute or two faster than last time and no bartender #1 in sight, which was a relief. Overall experience was decent the second time. They have a great selection of beers, which is a plus but if you are looking for quick service, resign yourself to be disappointed. I've been to better places but Evans has limited choices which is why I will probably return. Maybe I want to be ignored again, in some implicit masochistic way. read more

I ordered a large pizza to go so my family could enjoy it while watching the World Series . What a mistake ! The pizza was as thin as a saltine cracker with almost no sauce and very little cheese. It was first time in my life I actually threw away a pizza! The edges were burned black and the pepperoni had no flavor. I wasted my money . I am so disappointed because we had not eaten there in many years and recently moved back to Evans. I frequent this restaraunt normally once a week, if not more. Not because the food is great, because it's not. Not because the service is good, because it's not. But because it's the only bar in Evans open until midnight during the week, and I work nights. If you are coming here to drink, do yourself a favor and order a pitcher, because it will take 15 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge your empty glass and another 5 to turn around and pour it. I came in the other night about 45 minutes before closing time to have a few beers and a slice of pizza. The bartender decided she did not want to serve us, so she waited a while and then got the manager to see if she should serve us since it was so late now. Luckily for us, we could overhear her and could see what was going on when the manager served us at this point. I then watched several waitors and waitresses start turning people away, 30 MINUTES BEFORE CLOSING TIME, and then proceeded to walk around complaining and cursing about idiots coming in so late. You know what is idiotic? Turning away customers before you are closed. You want to stop seating customers at 10:30? Then close at 10:30. And the food? Well, I could not tell you when the last time i got a slice of pizza that wasnt burnt. I normally love the crust, even at the downtown locations of Pizza Joint, but the crust here is like eating a giant, unseasoned cruton. I used to love this place and would not want to go anywhere else. Now, I only go here to drink because of the bad food. On a plus side, and why they even got 2 stars, they do have great drink specials and discounts for FNB workers. Other than that, be prepared to be disappointed. read more

I wasn't going to post this but because of the lack of empathy i recieved from the manager Brad, I am so disgusted **if you go to their Facebook page you can see the picture ** Because of the holiday, I didn't want to cook so my husband and I ordered for the FIRST time at The Pizza Joint on Washington (next to waffle house) a pricey pizza for a terrible experience. The pizza had a HUGE bug that was baked in it. Giving that I've had experience as a server before, I ended up calling and going back to handle the situation. In response to Kaley G. Comment made June 11, 2019.... As a very concerned patron myself I do hope that corporate made the correct decision in TERMINATION for this in excusable and atrocious behavior from said server AND manager (MOD), AND other servers that allowed a very visible ungreeted table to be ignored for so long.
