It seemed like the restaurant was dealing with a huge rush, but they were both so calm, cool, and collected the entire time. We had an item missing from our order, and Des was incredibly attentive about it, checking in with us and following up until everything was taken care of. She was genuinely a great server and made what could have been a frustrating situation completely painless. And of course, the food is always amazing! My favorites are the hot honey, burrata & sausage pizza and the house salad which is seriously one of the best salads I've had. The buffalo cauliflower is also delicious, although I wish the portion were a little bigger! Great service, great food, and a great location. Parking can sometimes be a little challenging, but it's worth it. Again thank you, Des! We really appreciated you taking such great care of us!

The husband and son were there as well, but they were out to lunch so to speak. The husband just sat there watching a silent tv with a Yule Brenner western. He's definitely checked out. What he could be doing is cleaning the place. Quite dirty along the walls. The son (around 30) obviously did not want to be there. He was in and out making cell phone calls. I don't get the impression he's taking over in the future. Oh, I guess the husband was taking phone orders, but then right back to Yule. I get the sense this place has been around a long time. But now they are tired. The place, the atmosphere, the food all reflect that. I feel sad.

The "Deals" save you a nickel…read more Shakey's was my favorite pizza place growing up in Montana, so I was genuinely excited to discover there was one in Escondido. I went to the website and checked the "Deals" section. A large pepperoni pizza and a full order of Mojos were listed for $34.49. Then I went to "Build Your Own" and priced a large thin-crust pepperoni pizza with a full order of Mojos. Total: $34.54. That's right. The "deal" saves you five cents. A nickel. Apparently, in 2026, five cents now qualifies as a promotion. Either nobody bothered to compare the regular pricing before posting the "deal," or Shakey's genuinely believes customers should get excited about saving enough money to almost buy nothing. I was looking forward to revisiting a childhood favorite. Instead, I got a reminder that not every "deal" is actually a deal.
