I visited Pizza Union for the first time. It's a small, clean place in a strip mall. The gentleman who greeted and helped me was very polite. I got a 2 slice and soda lunch special. You pick your two slices from the pizzas in the case. I just took one of each from the first two pizzas but it looked like there were about 10 to choose from and you help yourself to any soda in the fridge. I devoured the mushroom slice before I could take a pic of it and I liked it more than the BBQ slice I got. Both had great crispy thin crusts with a bit of bite on the end crusts. I really liked the red sauce so hence my preference over the BBQ one. I'll get a while pie next time I stop in because there will certainly be a next time. read more

I went in on a quiet mid-afternoon weekday to place an order to go. I was the sole customer meeting with the sole gentleman working that afternoon. My order was a relatively basic pizza, half cheese and half peperoni. The twist, which is probably unusual for the place, was that I ordered mine with double cheese, well, because I am a self admitted cheese-o-holic. My order was ready in less than 15 minutes. I live in the town next door so I didn't do my usual peek before leaving the place. It was when I got home and opened the box that I was so very very happy with what I saw. The amount of cheese was absolutely more than generous. Upon taking a few bites and examining the crust, it was indeed NY style thin. While that might not be a surprise to most people, most NY style pies I have tried in San Diego county fall far short of a true NY thin crust pizza. This is a great pizza I told myself. I even called back to express my gratitude to the lone wolf at the place. He was happy! Anyway, I applaud their indulgence with my cheese request and even with a "normal" amount of cheese, this place is EASILY the best NY style pie in all of San Diego North County. Great NY style pizza! My wife, born and raised in NY on the island cannot eat pizza unless it reminds her of home. Pizza Union accomplished this totally! She had two bites of their cheese pizza at lunch today and exclaimed, "this is the real thing!" We found a place this weekend in Hillcrest, Bronx Pizza, that we loved also, but having Pizza Union in San Marcos is great. Forget other local places if you want authentic NY pizza. Thrilled to have found this pizza place! I LOVE pizza and haven't been able to find a tasty pizza spot near Escondido until I discovered Pizza Union. There's a well known chain pizza shop just a few storefronts down from Pizza Union and I have absolutely no idea why people keep ordering from there when Pizza Union has beyond better quality ingredients and MUCH better pizza. Chose this place for our event and they did not disappoint. Ordered via their website which directed me to Slice app and I see it for 12:15 pick up. They were ready on time and even helped my carry it all to my car. He was getting fresh knots out of oven and gave me some to eat on the way to the event. We got 6 pizzas and 6 orders of knots. Margherita Pizza... MY FAVORITE!!!!! So light yet so satisfying and filling. This WILL be a repeat. Personally never saw a pizza exactly like this, so even if you think nah, TRY IT, at least once. (They have a 2 slice plus drink for $6.99 so go for it and you are most welcomed because you WILL be thanking me.) BBQ Chicken... Not a bbq fan? Still Try it, this will change you. Oh my goodness!! I wouldn't have found this place if it wasn't for the Yelp Elite week for Northern SD yelpers. Unfortunately, I didn't make it for the RSVP but felt very curious to try this place on my own accord because I always love finding hole in the wall pizza places. I'm so glad their service was so fast. I decided to put in an online order so that I could have it hot and ready for curbside pick-up. It took maybe another 6-8 minutes after my original pick-up time, but the girl on the phone was very apologetic about it and brought it out as quickly as she could (straight out of the oven!) The flavors and smell of the pizza was already making me so hungry so I couldn't wait to dig into the Spinach and Feta 24" white pizza with added pepperonis, and a side of garlic knots. I tried the garlic knots first and they were so good! Great amount of garlic and perfectly baked. It was not doughy at all and had a certain softness to each bite. The white pizza was delicious, I loved the thin crust and how big the pizza slices were. The feta complemented the pepperoni and spinach and garlic addition well overall. I can see why this place has 5 stars, and I'm upset that I didn't know about this place sooner or else all my pizza nights would've went to this place! read more

While that might be an overstatement of sorts, calling this the best NY style pizza in the state might not actually be an overstatement. We've tried pizzerias from San Francisco and Sacramento to Los Angeles and San Diego (and of course, across the country, including NYC and Jersey), and this one can go toe-to-toe with any NY style pizzeria anywhere in this state. The crust is really good, there's a good ratio of sauce to crust, and the pizza is legit in terms of foldability. The best part though, are the garlic knots, which are perfect! They're crispy and soft at the same time, aren't underdone, and coated evenly with that delicious garlic and grease. Phenomenal stuff! read more

Oh hell YES. This is really, really good pizza. The place is small but they do have a few tables, if you want to dine in. They obviously do plenty of takeout business. Give yourself plenty of time because they get very busy and they are popular. Based on the photos on Yelp, almost no one orders the Sicilian style pizza. Exactly what is wrong with you people? The Sicilian pizza has beautiful, thick, buttery crust. It's fantastic. Your welcome. We also tried the regular pizza (thin crust) and it's very good, too. The toppings are crazy fresh. Service was very warm and friendly. Also, the ordering system on their website is fantastic. Seriously. When I used to live in Encinitas, the family used to go out for quick and easy pizza outings at East Coast by the beach. After moving to San Marcos, the search was on for a quick and easy alternative. Well, it took about three years, but I think we have our winner! While browsing through Yelp, my wife searched long and wide for some good Stromboli, a Midwest staple she enjoyed often growing up in Ohio, and found their offering here. Excited and hungry, we packed up the kids so she could give it the taste test. According to her, it passed with flying colors. Pizza Union itself is not in the best of spots. A smaller plaza away from the more major restaurant and shopping zones in the nearby area, this place shares space with barbers, massage parlors, and (of all things) a Domino's. This alone kept it off our radars until years after we moved nearby. There's very limited seating and it seems more suited to takeout than dining in; especially if you're in a larger group. That Stromboli itself is of a size that can easily feed two hungry people. Thin and crispy on top and fat and doughy on the ends, it's stuffed with onions, peppers, cheese, and salami. I'd prefer it if the onions and peppers were cooked down until they were softer, but my wife finds it to be damn near perfect. And with some of their marinara on the side for dipping, it kinda does fit that bill. The crust on their pizza is well made, sharing the same crispy and tasty burn that the Stromboli has. It's stretched thin, making it more akin to New York Style, and perfectly circular, which makes me feel like it's machine-pressed over hand-tossed; but, that's not unforgivable. The flavors are still there, and while it's not the greatest pizza I've ever had, it's still better than average. Best of all, the prices here are VERY forgiving. Where many pizza spots are raising their charge for 2 lives and a drink upwards of $10, Pizza Union is still sitting pretty in that $7 range, making this a new family go-to for an easy evening to satisfy the kids. All of this together and I'm very pleased we found this place here on Yelp. I look forward to coming out once or twice a month and I know my son and I will probably be swinging by to try out those sandwiches in the future. read more

Ordered the 14" Square Pan with meatballs but apparently small beef balls are used in place of meatballs on the pizzas here. Overall it had lots of cheese and beef was plenty but could have used more sauce - especially on the corners. The crust was buttery and chewy in spots, Not enough flavor in the sauce nor the beef. Overall the pie was a little salty for my taste. Leftover slices actually tasted better than the original. Maybe the sauce had a chance to settle in? Always great service and quality food. I'm really bummed that we didn't like the pizza here. We just moved to the area and were attracted to Union Pizza by their good reviews. Sadly our experience wasn't the same. The pizza was extremely wet, causing the toppings to slide off the crust and leaving a small puddle of liquid on the plate. Keep in mind: we even ordered the pizza well done. I imagine it will solidify or coagulate if we put it in the fridge and have it for breakfast (I like cold pizza) but the wet mess didn't make for an enjoyable dinner. :( read more

When it showed up, it was drowning in barbecue sauce -- felt like half a bottle poured on top -- and there was zero chicken. When we called, they claimed they put four ounces of chicken on it. Four ounces? That's barely enough for a small salad, let alone a large pizza. What we actually got was bread, sauce, and cheese, nothing like a BBQ chicken pizza.
