I first encountered The Pie Place not at their brick-and-mortar store but rather through a farmers' market. I saw small pies in a variety of flavors, and I chose two of the flavors. Each small pie cost several dollars. I ate the pies at home. The apple pie had a crispy crust, fresh apples, and the right amount of cinnamon and nutmeg, and I rate it as 4.5 stars. I purchased 6 pies for Thanksgiving this year. The online ordering process was perfect, simple and effective. Pickup was also amazingly smooth. Everyone was in a great mood and I was in and out (with a lobby full of other customers) in 5 minutes! The pies were absolutely delicious! We had multiple pumpkin, cherry crumble, apple, pecan and key lime. I can personally attest to the pumpkin, cherry and key lime! The cherry was the biggest hit and people were negotiating bites by the end of it! I will definitely be a regular customer going forward. read more

Hello fellow Yelpers! The pie place is a very clean shop with nice staff offering all sorts of baked goods! There's a large selection of pies, tarts, bars, and cookies. It's a nice shop with numerous options for pie lovers out there. The nice thing for us was that the pies offered came in numerous sizes! You could get slices, whole, and even mini (as seen in our picture). The pies are standard in taste they aren't the best pies we've ever had nor bad they are just good and what you'd expect. They were baked and displayed for a while so they weren't piping hot or anything when we bought them either (plus it would melt the whipped cream so the minis are cold on purpose), but they are good and we would recommend giving a try if you have a pie lover out there. The only big con here is that the pies are a little pricier at around $16 and up, though I forget the mini pie prices (maybe around $6 each?) so it's not the most affordable, they do need to pay rent for the space though. Definitely the worst place for pie in the Pittsburgh area .... Tasted old and / or stale. I threw the pie in the garbage :(

I have always seen the sign for this place but have never stopped in so when I went to pick up my pie kit for an event I was pleasantly surprised to see how big it actually was inside and the variety of items (besides pie) that you could get here! Of course I had to pick up a couple of extra goodies that caught my eye while I was there. I loved that they had mini tarts versions of their pies so you could do your own taste test before you committed to a whole pie. Happy that they also serve up coffee drinks which is perfect since they go hand and hand with pastries. I will definitely be back! The pie place makes these great kits that give you everything pre-prepped and ready to put together and bake your own pies. Update on the apple pie kit I made for the Yelp event - I brought it to work and they guys crushed it in 20 minutes - it was delicious! I will definitely pick that up again it was awesome! read more

This was my second experience with the Pie Place. Both times I pre ordered and came to pick it up in the store. The store is very clean and they have marks on the ground to social distance. This time we ordered their Pi day apple pie. It is so pretty and smells amazing. Since we stopped in the weekend of Pi day we also received a free tart. My daughter wanted the St Patricks day cookies they had and she said it was good (a 4 yo is not hard to please but I believe her)! They offer pie kits that you can assemble yourself at home and they offer classes. I did a virtual class where we made an apple pie last time. I would love to sign up my daughter for one of the kids classes in the future. The Pie Place feels like it is in another state from where we are in Regent Square but we are willing to make the trek because it is so good. We will be back! read more

So new to me place ! I ran out to pick up a pie kit today and to see what others goodies this place had to offer. Nice place in a nice location with good parking (lot)! There were a few folks that hat walked in before me - a few "regulars" - you could tell by the way they interacted with the two sweet ladies behind the counter who were helping us out today. The first in line had kids that went after the cake pops - a nice chocolate chip cake and some other item I could not make out. The next lady in line had a pie order she placed in advance - all packed up in nice boxes and ready to go! I will say for three people walking in at once - they were quick to get to all of us! Now I strolled in for a pre made pie kit ( they have other kits available but they must be based on availability as the First Lady in line was looking for what I think I heard - a cookie kit). Now back to me and what I was buying - they brought out a pie box and inside it has everything I need - minus the pan! So many other goodies tempted me - cookies - brownies - PEPPERONI ROLLS ...yum! I stopped at the Pie Place last Saturday to pick up my apple pie making kit for the upcoming Yelp event. The storefront itself was very nice! They have a parking lot for easy parking. Once I went inside, I was in awe of all of the cool offerings they have (besides pie). They have a collection of brownies, cinnamon rolls, pepperoni rolls, cookies, tarts, etc. in addition to my apple pie kit, I also purchased a sugar cookie bar, a lemon brownie, and a hoho brownie. Everything was very good. The only couple of downsides were that I did not receive the tin pie Pan for the apple pie kit (luckily I had a pie Pan at home) and I saw on other reviews that last Saturday was National Pie and some reviewers received a free tart or mini pie. Sadly, I was not offered that perk. But it's okay- it just gives me another reason to stop back in. read more

I recently visited the Pie Place and purchased a pie kit for a virtual pie making event. While I was there, I also picked up a slice of apple strudel. You might think "What, a slice? That's not enough for a proper snack," and you would be wrong. The apple strudel slice was large and absolutely delicious. Great pastry, full of apples, with the right level of sweetness. It does have raisins in it, which freaked me out a bit, but they didn't interfere with the taste of the strudel at all. The pie making class was fun, and resulted in a sizeable, tasty, and fresh apple pie. When I'm in the South Hills Village area again, I'll stop in to have some more apple strudel and try some of the other baked goods they have. If you're looking for a bakery with lots of sweets, variety, and a friendly staff, give the Pie Place a shot. Chances are you'll walk away happy. read more

Stopped in my get my Yelp Elite pie making kit and it just happened to be National Pie Day. They gave me a cute little mini cherry pie that was so amazing that I didn't even share it with my family. I've been here several times but for some reason I've never left a review. Maybe I want to keep it as my one little hidden treasure! It IS kinda hidden in the shopping center where Pier 1 used to be. It's in the same location as the wonderful Wild Birds Unlimited and Don's Appliances. We're a big fan of their pepperoni rolls and various pies and cookies. They also have coffee, smoothies, iced cream, and other pastries. I'm anxious to go back for their Valentine treats!! read more

After driving by this place several times, I finally made the decision to stop in as we were at Fleet Feet in the same plaza. Holy cow, why did I wait so long? Upon walking in you're greeted by a case of pies and various baked goods. After looking around for several minutes we settled on an apple crisp and pecan bar. The portions are easily shareable and the prices are average. I didn't try the apple crisp, but my wife raved about it. The pecan bar had a light crust but was full of flavor. They also had coffee and ice cream which we didn't try. The only thing I wish they had is pie by the slice. This is definitely a must when we're in the area. read more

Stopped in while I was in the neighborhood running an errands. I wanted to surprise my with with a treat when I got home and this looked like the place to go! Two things my wife loves are brownies and lemonade and so imagine my surprise upon walking in when my eyes were immediately drawn to the Lemon Brownies that were on display. Basically it was a no-brainer and because I was short on time I didn't look any further into the glass cabinets of goodies in this first visit to The Pie Place. Today was Granddaughter Day. We stopped in to sample the individual offerings instead of the birthday cookies from a birthday party. After deliberating, she, age 7, chose apple Dutch crumb mini tart. I chose a taste from the past: apple strudel. We chose to have the clerk warm them up. I showed GD how to deconstruct and combine for a full flavored enjoyment. Both choices were above and beyond. My strudel was so close to my memory of my grandmother's strudel with a light elastic pastry covering perfectly spiced apples. Expensive, but not, when I considered the portion size and the quality. A nice little gem in the Mt. Lebanon/South Hills area. There's a lot I liked, and a few things I think can be improved. Overall, delicious baked treats! Staff is very friendly, classic flavors of pies - seems that their lemon pie is quite popular and goes out very quickly, so the shop clerk recommended calling in beforehand to inquire about their inventory. Display: Seems that a lot of what they had on display didn't appear as fresh as I would have imagined for a bakery. Some of their fruit tarts looked a bit dried out, as well as the pies, although I imagine they would still taste very good! I predict this would eventually improve as business returned per usual, post pandemic. Fudge brownie: A delicious, satisfying treat. I prefer brownies to be gooey, decadent, and (dare I say it) moist. I felt that the flavor of the brownie came more from sugar as it tasted sweeter than fudgy/chocolatey. Key lime pie: Super tasty! It was a bit too sweet for my liking, but my friend loved it. And the pie crust is top notch: buttery, crumbly, mouth-watering. Apple crisp crumble: This was the best of things I purchased. The crumble was crunchy, had great balance of flavors with the apples, highly recommend getting this when you visit! read more

If you're ordering something for pickup, be sure to speak VERY SLOWLY AND CLEARLY, because they're really not paying attention to what you're saying. I stopped in on a Tuesday, ordered a pie for Thursday and when I got there on Thursday, I found out they took "Thursday" to mean "Saturday." So they gave me a frozen pie and wished me luck. I've passed this place a million times and have always been intrigued. Tonight I sent my husband to pick up dessert. His selections were the chocolate chip cookie cake and the hoho brownie. I was disappointed. The cookie cake is one large chocolate chip cookie. It was dry and crunchy. Not even the center was soft as I would anticipate a large cookie to be. Giant eagle has a better cookie cake for half the price. Even the flavor was dull. For $18 I anticipated something mind blowing, instead I just found myself blowing cookie crumbs. I thought maybe the hoho would be better. Unfortunately that was a no as well. The flavors were so muddled you couldn't taste a distinct vanilla or chocolate. It was one homogeneous flavor of overly sweet chocolate. I would be willing to try their fruit pies to see if those are any better. But then again I don't know if I want to spend $18 to be disappointed a third time. read more

The name of this place is super cute, yet doesn't give a complete picture of how much they have inside! I was very surprised when stopping in for the first time today, after many years of passing by this shop in the little shopping center where Borders Bookstore used to be, followed by Pier One and now Louis Anthony Jewelers. I walked in to see not only a wealth of pies in their expansive cases, but cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, truffles, pepperoni rolls, cinnamon buns... even a full coffee bar. They also have a little section of items from other local vendors including pasta, pasta sauce and pickles, as well as Betsy's Ice Cream made locally in Mt. Lebanon. I love local businesses supporting other local businesses! Today I was picking up an apple pie kit for a virtual event with Yelp, and could not walk out of here without a few more things to try. I bought a slice of New York cheesecake, a Ho Ho brownie, and they offered me an apple crisp, apple tart or cherry tart for free because it was National Pie Day! I asked what the staff member recommended and she said to go for the tart if I wanted a lot of crust and the crisp if I wanted something lighter. I went for the crisp and it was SO good, with a wonderful caramelized brown sugar flavor to the apples and a very light crust, that I am even more excited for the apple pie making class. The brownie was a given for me as I am addicted to anything that is remotely similar to a Ho Ho, and it was very good, with a rich, decadent chocolate flavor to both of the brownies; the vanilla filling was a tiny bit sweeter than I might have liked but the whole package was delicious and I'd get this again. I was not the biggest fan of the cheesecake, which certainly wasn't bad and had a nice, creamy texture, but there was some element that had a bit of an aftertaste to me. I noticed they were nearly out of the Oreo cheesecake slices, so perhaps that's the one to get! That said, the majority of the goods here and their focus is clearly on pies and I will be back to try more -- I don't think you can go wrong with their fruit pies, based on my sampling so far, and definitely need to see how their coconut cream, my very favorite pie, stacks up to my other favorites in the area. read more

I attended the yelp virtual pie making event and had a great experience! The pie making kit was so easy to follow and the pie dough was SO easy to work with. It was my first time making a pie and I will admit- I was intimidated. Truly though, there is no need to be intimated with the instructions and materials provided. My apple pie turned out great! And I was able to make little cinnamon roll cookies with the leftover pie dough- which were super delicious! When I stopped in to pick up the pie kit I also purchased a brownie to-go and I am not kidding... best brownie I have ever had. It was INCREDIBLE. Can't wait to come back here! read more

The cookies, brownies, and cream pies are super sized! However, you worry that super sized might mean they lack taste, but this is definitely not the case. My fave was the sugar cookie bar. I swear it was at least 5 inches thick. So good. I love sugar cookies and hate when they're dry. This one was not even a bit. The only thing regular size is the pies and cakes. It used to be that after shopping at the bookstore my family and I would duck into The Pie Place and grab a freshly made cookie or one of their delicious berry tarts. Since the Borders closed I haven't stopped in as often, but whenever I do I'm happy to discover that they haven't lost their touch. The next time you want something sweet you absolutely need to stop on in here and find some cookies, a brownie, or one of their fruit crisps or tarts. They also make cakes, pies, torts, and rolls. Oh, and they sell biscotti and coffee. And you can order custom made desserts, too. I think you get the picture! Where was this gem hiding?? Walked in here after a watch adjustment at Louis Anthony jewelers and was blown away! They have all sorts of pies, tarts, cookies, truffles, and even ice cream! I spoke to the clerk who explained that most everything with the exception of ice cream and mini pies are made from scratch. Since they are made without preservatives you must take that into account when purchasing. Of course you can order ahead for the holidays. Most pies average about $18.00 but looking at them, they are appear mouthwatering good. She told me the fruit pies can be frozen but the cream pies refrigerated only. So I decided to sample something and purchased a pumpkin brownie along with a chocolate chip cookie. They do have a small eating area with napkins and will cut it for you upon request. I dug in to the brownie and it literally was to die for! So rich and filling! I was intrigued with the heart of the forest pie but was told it would only last a couple of days. Believe me that would be a winner for the holidays. If you are not sure if what you want is homemade by them be sure to ask since they said some of the mini pies are ordered in. Looking for pumpkin? They make it from scratch along with pumpkin cream. Again the price of the pie averages around $18.00. They also sell pumpkin bread. Also they will make gingerbread men for the Christmas season. we ordered two pies for Christmas , picked them up and not even 24 hours later one pie had MOLD ALL OVER IT, I contacted them and they said they have to be refrigerated however we were NOT told that or was there any label of ingredients or any label stating needs to be refrigerated, I have never ever put a pie other than a cream pie in a refrigerator and I have never in my 64 years of living had a pie MOLD .. thry told me to come back and get another pie , i told them it was far and I was not going to drive all that way for another pie ( holiday gathering was over and I didn't need one at this point plus that drive was too far for a pie ) I contacted them again and they have gone radio silent and not responded ! horrible customer service, any store , restaurant etc if this happened would refund me immediately.. pie purchasers beware thst you need to refrigerate their sugar free pies .. We selected a pie to take to a friend's house for dinner. The crust was delicious and flaky and the filling was REAL .. I've only had the Cherry pie, but I will absolutely be back for more. This place seems like the perfect place to order pies for special occasions such as thanksgiving, Easter, etc. I can promise you they will always be a hit if you take them as a contribution to a meal... my friends all had two slices!
