The coffees were perfect and the burritos were great, very generous bacon and tasted homemade . Would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. I did work for their Edward's location in 2000. One of the funnest jobs I had as a teenager coming out into the world. Core memories were made from my co workers, guests and the responsibilities I was given at such a young age. But with time, other coffee joints have opened and your curiosity takes over. You hit up those other coffee shops or stay within your area for convenience. You forget the root of what started your love for coffee. I drive by this Moxie Java a few times a week and it always brings back memories. So, today I made the decision to go in! I have yet to have coffee at this location but with that logo on their store front, you know you're going to get a great cup of coffee. This venue is big. I love the outside patio with the awning. Inside is cozy with the fireplace going. Plenty of seating for coffee and conversations. Comfy chairs by the fireplace. I adore all the local pictures of Downtown Boise. You can spend a good amount of time here enjoying your drink. A sweet gal behind the counter greeted me. I appreciate that they have a convenient syrup list available so you don't have to ask the barista what kind of options you have. One thing about Movie Java that I love is the ample amount of options of syrups. Their sugar free options is one of the best in town. I really wanted a Milky Way but I'm watching my sugar intake. I got an iced sugar free chocolate and caramel breve. I know it won't be the same but a decent alternative. I'm just happy that they even have sugar free chocolate as an option. A flavor 95% of these other coffee joints don't have. My breve was tasty. I did have to add a packet of sweetner to it. It was almost there in sweetness, it just needed an extra push. The espresso wasn't overly strong. The half and half was creamy. It was all balanced and so good! I sipped on it for a bit in front of the fireplace. It was nice to start my Friday off on such a good note. Moxie Java will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's part of my youth. I have so many fond memories from past coffee shops. My love for coffee started with this place. My first Milky Way will always be a favorite core memory for me. I'm happy I got to stop in and grab my coffee today. I will definitely have to stop in sooner than later.

Quick take: Yes, decent espresso…read more Coffee Snob Version: First some background to be fair. I buy and roast my own beans and tried beans from all over the world. I have an Excel file full of roasting profiles per bean with what worked and what was less good. I tend to like African and Asian beans. I have use the same Breville machine for 15 years, drink espresso and espresso based drinks exclusively. Yes I would consider myself a coffee snob. I live around the corner from here and have meant to come try them for a while. I was sick a few weeks ago so missed two roasting Fridays, I roasts every Friday and ran out of my own beans. As you know if you are reading the Coffee Snob version, Sbux disappoints, so hey... perfect opportunity to try here! What to try... curious to know about their beans, I ordered a Dopio and an Americano. The Dopio lets me experience just the bean, the Americano what it tastes like dilluted, the flavor can change a bit. The Americano also tells me how much water they add. I tend to make mine with equal parents espresso and water, there is an actual name for this that eludes me at the moment. What was odd was that as they pulled the double espresso shot, there was an unusual volume of crema on top, I actually saw the Barista dump some of the crema off before pouring the remainder in my cup. This is caused by a few things but beans that are too recently roasted is a primary cause. Freshly roasted means usually need at least a week to off as the carbon dioxide in the beans. All that crema was likely CO2 relates, so if anything would have made the shot undrinkablly bitter... And the Barista seemed to know this! I have had beans that needed a month to stabilize. One day it's sharp and bitter, as if by magic, the flavor has changed entyrly and is wonderful! The flavor of the Dopio would tend to support this as it was on the sharp side. That sharpness came through in the Americano which was full to the brim. The fix is simple, I add a small amount of whipped cream and swirl it in. When I get a less than ideal roast at home, this is the fix. I'm certain milk based drinks, cappuccino, breve, etc would overcome this easily. Will I go back, if I am out of beans, definitely, but now I know to add a bit of whipped cream!

Their mochas were also a big hit. The owner even gave our kiddos some "pup cups" with whipped cream, which they loved! They also sell some beans from Hawaii (if I remember correctly) - that you can't find many places. Definitely going to try a bag at home soon. We've been back a few times and will continue to stop by and support this local spot.
