Every now and then my walks take me by places I never would have gone to if I didn't walk by the door. Today brought me to the Perch. Peering through the window I could see they had their own brewery and the decor looked like a nice place to stop for lunch. I'm blown away by the staff, ambiance, food and service. Started off with the Skillet Corn Bread with Honey Maple Butter... (drool worthy), next came the lobster deviled eggs which were just heavenly. As perfect as you could make it bursting with flavours and texture; best I've ever had. Plating was exquisite. For my main was the grilled tuna salad which was so perfectly balanced with freshness, acidity, texture... it had everything. Even the picked ginger was the perfect compliment to give it that Japanese Tuna Tataki Salad feel. I washed it all down with sweet tea that's brewed in house and served with your own syrup to customize the sweetness to your liking. Just excellent. Also the price is just right for everything too. I took my husband for brunch. I wasn't a fan of the food. The best thing was the blueberry cornbread. We ordered the croquettes. It's was mostly potato hardly any meat, my rye bread came out burnt and my food wasn't hot. I do appreciate the manager accommodating my husband by making a corn beef sandwich since it wasn't on the menu. It was okay. My husband like the Bloody Mary but we felt the topping were old as thought it was leftovers from the other night. It wasn't fresh. I would try this place again but probably dinner. read more

My girlfriends and I came here for some food prior to our night out. We decided to share a bunch of appetizers because they stood out more than the rest of the menu. Our waiter was nice and the place itself was cute! Very chic and modernized. I enjoyed the decorations. Came here for brunch with my gf during restaurant week, and truly they deserve the nomination and place in chicagos restaurant week. It's a lovely restaurant with very rustic, cute and dark wood decor around the place. Classic brewery plus restaurant setup and we truly enjoyed it. I was drawn to The Perch because of its shady patio area in front. Nate and I were wandering around and wanted a snack - I specifically needed something green after a couple days of indulging in deep dish and donuts. We were seated outside right away and ordered the croquettes and Brussels sprout salad. They have brunch, lunch, dinner, and even a dog menu for their patio! The vibe inside was wonderful - bright, airy, and open. The croquettes came out first, and I appreciated the nice timing on the food delivery. They were crispy on the outside and soft inside, but just didn't have a ton of flavor. The smoked paprika aioli helped but overall they could've packed a little more punch. The Brussels sprouts salad was a nice portion with a lot of cheese! I liked the dried blueberries, that's not something I've seen often on a salad. Super cute brewery with good food offerings. I came here for a work lunch and the service was friendly and attentive. We tried the Brussel sprouts, really good they were served charred with bacon and jalapeños, can't go wrong. Rigatoni and prime rib sandwich were tasty options as well. My fiancé and I love to visit places with a great patio and dog friendly, so a quick google search led us to The Perch. We were able to snag a quick reservation on open table in case they were packed, but they were able to accommodate us comfortably. Our host was nice and attentive. Whenever we are out, our dogs get the most attention. I never thought I would become a pet parent who orders dinner with her dogs but here I am. Our pups enjoyed the spinach and grain bowl, as you can see in the photo my older pup Chance wanted to order his own food lol. As for the human guests, we really enjoyed the drinks. Of course I ordered an old fashioned and it was made well. The food was pretty good, however it needed more salt and pepper. For example, the chicken was cooked very well, but lacked seasoning. We picked this restaurant because it is associated with Crosby Kitchen and I enjoyed their food during restaurant week. I made a reservation for this restaurant because my husband can't handle these type of things. Ha! He may or may not see this ...but it's Not Fake News. Came after having a few Happy Hour Margs at Takito kitchen. For food we got Spinach Artichoke Dip, Half Chicken with Asparagus and Baby Back Ribs with French Fries and Broccolini. Food was good, ribs so tender. Veggies tasted awesome being woodfired. Fries were not great, I would say fair. They came out cold. I informed our waiter and he got me some new ones but then those all butts. So hard pass on ever ordering fries here again. No complaints on veggies...so probably would stick to those plus better than fried potatoes. Beer: My honey had a Coffee Porter, very enjoyable. I had the Raspberry Pilsner, very good. We went there for Mother's Day brunch and was not disappointed. Free mimosa for mom! The space is open and airy with a patio and big glass windows that open on a nice day. For starters we got.. - croquettes- good not great - iron skillet blueberry cornbread - amazing with maple honey butter And for main.. - prime rib hash - good - two eggs your way - good, great bacon, sausage and grilled slaw -mimosa's and of course a flight of beer Solid beer not great, amazing seltzer with handcrafted syrup. The service was very friendly and quick. They use point of sale devices at the table so orders get back to the kitchen immediately. Couple of minor hiccups on initial wait and special orders but nothing too big. Overall a very cool concept. The food was good with some items really popping. Man... did not think I'd have to be giving the Perch a 2. I was so excited to try this place but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. We came late after my bodybuilding show as a celebratory meal. I was looking for a filet mignon which is kind of hard to find in WP. The Perch lists it as a Saturday option but does not say "while supplies lasts" or anything of the sort. So unfortunately, they were sold out. It happens. Instead, my friend and I went with the steak frites. The menu lists a chimchurri butter but it came with this strange glaze at the bottom, a butter with an overpowering herb flavor... couldn't place it but not good. So much so that my husband traded me meals because I didn't like it at all, neither did my friend. Not to mention it was a little over cooked. The fries that came with had clearly been cooked earlier and were reheated. They were like soggy and dehydrated and not even warm. The service unfortunately was also a miss. The server checked on us once within 30 seconds of placing the food down (before we even had time to try it) and then never came back. In fact, I had to ask a different server for salt and ketchup. The only saving grace was the skillet cornbread which was very tasty. Good crispy edges and soft inside with a hint of spice. Though this was brought to our table within 30 seconds so also clearly done and sitting out. Luckily it worked out on this. My husband got the NY strip salad. The steak itself was a good cut and cooked well but under salted. Added salt and then had that. The salad was drenched in dressing which made the "crispy" potatoes a soggy mess. Overall, extremely disappointed after the reviews. Did not order food from this place... just grabbed a drink each and were fortunate enough to not have to wait to be seated since this place was packed inside and out (yeah, they have a patio on the sidewalk). Actually, I feel like we were lucky because Chicago reached a whopping 68° for a high in early March ON a Saturday so everyone and their mama were coming out of their winter shells trying to live their best lives finally after months of typical a Midwest winter. Anyways, onto the experience. Our server was really friendly and the beers we both got were excellent. I stopped by Perch on a Sunday morning because their restaurant week menu had piqued my interest! It had lots of options and sounded totally worth the $25, so we jumped at the chance to try somewhere new! When we arrived, service was very friendly, and the ambiance is very pleasing! Lots of natural light, plants, etc. which makes for a lovely brunch aesthetic! First course was the beer-mosa or rose sangria. The sangria was great - Not too sweet with lots of fresh fruit flavor. However, we didn't love the beer-mosa. You get to choose your beer in it which is a nice touch, but the Pilsner we chose just didn't taste like a Pilsner to me. I was surprised by how hoppy and bitter it was. For the appetizers, we tried the croquettes and cinnamon roll, which I would call the best and worst if the menu! The cinnamon roll was quite dry, and definitely didn't have the gooey sweet center I look forward to in a cinnamon roll. The icing also seemed like just cream cheese with little to no sweetness added. It takes a lot for me to say I wouldn't order a cinnamon roll again. Fortunately, the croquettes were incredible! Hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, seasoned and bacon-y, with the best sauce on top! You are making a mistake if you are leaving these out of your order! The backbird benny and biscuits and gravy won our attention for the entree. The benny was a huge portion with so many amazing flavors - Sweet cornbread, spicy salsa, savory beans, hollandaise sauce... A pretty great combo. The biscuits and gravy was pretty good, too, but didn't have as much flair. However, the hot sauces provided for the table were all unique and flavorful, so that was appreciated!! read more

The Perch opened during the Summer of 2020. What a great addition to the restaurant scene in Wicker Park! My wife, daughter, and I dined here for brunch on December 11, 2021. As you walk in your first impression is a good one...this is a comfortable, attractive, space with high ceilings and lots of glass. There are many good looking options on the menu. The Perch is known for their wood-fired grill and rotisserie chicken. I recommend any menu item that incorporates the rotisserie chicken. I had the Chicken Dip: it is a sandwich with wonderful, juicy, chunks of rotisserie chicken meat. They serve it with au jus (hence the name). I've never had a chicken sandwich served with au jus. I tried my first bite without the au jus and it was delicious. The au jus takes it to another level. This is truly a great sandwich! For my side I ordered asparagus. I'm told all veggies "touch the wood-fired grill". I've never had asparagus with better flavor. My wife had the Wrightwood salad; which also features rotisserie chicken. It was excellent. My daughter had the Eggs Benedict which incorporates shoulder bacon as the meat. It was good, but I implore the owners to offer it with your choice of shoulder bacon or the rotisserie chicken. I think Eggs Benedict with the rotisserie chicken would be a huge hit! One public service announcement: the hashbrowns are not traditional crispy-fried hashbrowns; but rather more of a baked, hashbrown casserole. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea (I haven't even mentioned the Cinnamon Roll or Croquettes). Service was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend The Perch. read more

The waiter was great although the hostess was a bit off-putting and they definitely seemed understaffed as our drinks took over 20 minutes to receive and we had to remind the waiter who seemed like he was doing his best. We had the Croquettes to start which were great, that sauce and we had the wrightwood salad (which was average) and the Turkey burger which was great (and massive). I took my buddy here for his birthday lunch. We started with the lobster devil eggs. They were delicious. I had the Mahi Mahi Sandwich and he had the Eggs Benedict. We were both impressed with our meals. I didn't drink but noticed they had a pretty extensive line of Buffalo Tracy whiskeys. My only knock on this place, which is a new pet peeve of mine, is an added service charge that was placed on my bill. The steak frites were a touch underwhelming sadly and the Oreo dessert was good, but tasted a little freezer burnt. Nonetheless, I would (and have) gone back for that darn chicken dip! Came here on a Tuesday night with a friend around 6pm and were seated right away on their front patio. I ordered a beer and it was good but nothing that blew me away. But we ordered spinach and artichoke dip and that was VERY a good! We were pleasantly surprised about that. For dinner she got the Wrightwood salad and I got the grilled Mahi sandwich. My sandwich was delicious and the fries were crisp. I would definitely recommend it. They did kindly take something off our bill for the trouble. Food: 5/5 for what it is, this is super large portions, very hearty, nothing overly complex but quite delicious. I got the eggs benedict and it was phenomenal - I will say that I'm a crispy hashbrown girl, but this was more like a hashbrown casserole - very soft and creamy inside. Love this place, BUT, they discontinued my very, very favorite dish---the grilled artichokes! PLEASE bring them back, which is why I deducted a star! The last two weeks my eggs have been severely undercooked--- writhing three minutes of ordering the plates were out. I ordered the egg tostadas--- the eggs were barely cooked with the albumins still clear---I should have sent it back---had terrible stomach problems! It happened again yesterday, but it was the egg sandwich , so I couldn't see the cook on the eggs. Very sick night again. Our server was great at suggesting a modification for my dietary restriction when we visited for brunch.
