The same flavors showed up on the steak, the beets, the cornbread, and even the aguachile. There were also so many nuts incorporated throughout the dishes that it became difficult to appreciate the individual ingredients. To be fair, it's not that these flavor combinations were necessarily bad. The problem was that they were used so heavily that they completely overshadowed the actual food. If I order steak, I want to taste the steak. If I order beets, I want to taste the beets. Instead, everything seemed to be competing with the same strong combination of salty, oily, spicy, nutty, and sesame-forward flavors. I can appreciate creativity, but when every dish has such similar toppings and seasonings, the meal starts to feel one-note. Given the reputation of the restaurant, I expected the individual ingredients to shine a lot more.

In browsing through the pictures of Cindy's Rooftop, it looked like it hit that criteria spot-on. The pictures did not lie. When entering the restaurant, the views of Lake Michigan through floor to ceiling windows were amazing and it was nice to enjoy the bright natural light from the glass roof. Once seated, I told our server, Gerardo that it was her birthday and he immediately got her a glass of bubbly on him! He was positive and easy to talk to. This was quite the contrast with the service at Bar Mar for dinner the night before where the server made no attempt to make the night special. We ordered the Blueberry French Toast and the Chilaquiles. The french toast was superb, being thick, fluffy and sweet. The Chilaquiles were pretty average...what I'd expect at a cheap Mexican joint so at $25, it was quite pricey but I will say the over-medium eggs were cooked perfectly. Throughout brunch, Gerardo checked on us frequently and when I asked for the check, he came back with a dessert and a candle as a final gesture to making my girlfriend's day special. I am so glad we came here because it truly was an experience, thanks to the great service, beautiful rooftop, and good food.

The bar seating itself wasn't super crowded - but every booth and table looked like it was taken, so that was interesting. On my way to the bathroom I saw their numerous michelin years of guide and stars. It's noticeably missing 2026 - and after having dined here, I kind of get why. For a drink I got the local Eris Pedestrian cider. We debated getting the chef menu ($195/each) , but we ended up ordering a la carte: chicken liver mousse ($9/each, we ordered two), roasted veal sweetbreads ($30), black truffle chicken ($43), and roasted dry aged pork loin ($51). We later ordered a financiers for dessert (forgot the price). We were full after eating everything that we ordered, but given the lack of quality of the cuts of meat, the small portion sizes, and the extremely high cost, it's hard for me to recommend this place. If this is what Michelin star-quality food tastes like (at least in Chicago), the Michelin evaluators here have either no actual taste buds, or are awarding stars for "vibes" only. The vibes are fine - don't get me wrong - but the food here isn't anything worth writing home about. Dish by dish: mousse was decent, the veal was kinda dry, the chicken was very dry, and the pork loin, while decent, wasn't as special as we thought it'd be. Financiers was kinda sweet but it was actually the only part of the meal I truly enjoyed the bites of. The post-meal truffle thing was too sweet for the missus so I ate both. The cider was... Pedestrian, as the name implies. Definitely the most fitting name for the drink. The bathrooms are down the stairs - so it's terrible for those in wheelchairs or that are mobility challenged. The bathrooms themselves are high-quality - which is part of the experience, but idk if it's "worthy" of adding stars to a mediocre food experience.

The Perch in Chicago is an absolute hidden gem, and I can't stop raving about this fantastic dining establishment! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with an atmosphere that combines elegance and comfort. The restaurant's stylish decor and warm ambiance create the perfect setting for a memorable meal. Now, let's talk about the food. The menu at The Perch is a culinary delight. Every dish is a work of art, bursting with flavor and creativity. Whether it's their exquisite seafood options, perfectly grilled steaks, or their mouthwatering desserts, each bite is a taste sensation. The quality of the ingredients and the skillful preparation shine through in every dish. But it's not just the food; it's the impeccable service that truly sets The Perch apart. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond to ensure a remarkable dining experience. Their attention to detail and willingness to cater to your preferences make you feel like a valued guest. I came here for brunch and was excited by the fact that it's dog-friendly and even has a doggy menu--such a nice touch for those of us dining with pets! Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to expectations this time around. We started off with the cheese curds, which were fantastic. They were fried in tempura batter, making them much lighter than your typical cheese curd. It was a strong start, but sadly, the entrees didn't hold up. We ordered the fried egg sandwich, which was recommended to us. However, the cheese wasn't even melted, and there wasn't much flavor that stood out. We also got the Division Street omelette, which was also disappointing. The bacon bits inside were tough and hard to chew, making the dish a bit of a struggle. Both entrees came with hashbrowns, which were surprisingly good--creamy and flavorful, even better than the main dishes themselves. Another downside was that while the cheese curds came out quickly, the entrees took quite a while to arrive. I've been here before for dinner, and I remember the dinner menu being much better than the brunch experience. I'd definitely recommend coming for dinner instead. While I love the atmosphere and the dog-friendly vibe, the brunch entrees left a lot to be desired. read more

If you're looking for a great spot to grab a brew in Chicago, look no further than The Perch! Located at 1932 West Division, this brewery offers a great selection of beers and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. One of the most popular offers at The Perch is their flight of beers, which allows you to sample several different brews and find your new favorite. They also have a great selection of seasonal and specialty beers, so there's always something new and exciting to try. But what really sets The Perch apart is its commitment to providing high-quality beer at an affordable price. Their cheapest product, the House Lager, is a favorite among regulars and visitors alike. It's crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a day out with friends. But don't just take my word for it - stop by The Perch and see for yourself! With friendly staff, delicious brews, and a welcoming atmosphere, it's no wonder this spot has become a local favorite. Whether you're a beer aficionado or just looking for a fun night out, The Perch is sure to impress. read more

My girlfriends and I reserved a table for 8 at The Perch Kitchen and Tap during restaurant week. We were intrigued by the fixed brunch menu priced at $25, which included a choice of mimosa or beer, appetizer, and entree. The appetizers, featuring croquettes, lobster deviled eggs, and avocado toast, were delightful. However, the cinnamon roll was a letdown - hard and unappetizing. For the entrees, half of us opted for the biscuits and gravy with an egg, which was a delicious choice. However, the BlackBird benny disappointed with its lack of chicken. Despite the restaurant's bustling ambiance during restaurant week, we were disappointed by the lack of attention from the staff. Our water glasses remained unfilled, and there was minimal check-in throughout the meal. Nevertheless, we managed to enjoy our time, thanks to good company and the overall quality of the food. Dropped by The Perch in Chicago for a brunch sesh with my buds, and it was a solid 3-star joint with that cool industrial-chic vibe. The Croquettes were straight-up fire--crispy, creamy, and packed with flavor, no complaints there. The Cinnamon Roll was a warm, gooey dream, perfectly sweet and honestly one of the best I've had in a minute. The Wrightwood Salad was super fresh with a nice mix of greens and goat cheese, but the portion felt a bit small for the price, and the dressing was just okay. The Fried Egg Sandwich with Hash Browns was tasty, with a runny egg and decent bread, but the hash browns were a little soggy and could've used more crisp. I mean. This was delicious. So delicious. I recommend everything we ordered. The beet pasta with caviar, come on now. It tasted like my Russian heritage had a baby and it came out as pasta. It was SO good. The potato chips came with a dip I'd swim in. And the dessert is off the chain. Worth coming in for all on its own. Make a reservation and keep coming back: this is a gem. read more

Great vibe! We went on a Wednesday at 7 and had no wait. This was our first time here, we did the roasted cauliflower, cornbread, salmon, and the Mahi sandwich. It was definitely a great meal but not the best we've ever had and pretty pricey...still everything was delicious and it was cooked to perfection. Service was good. We would recommend giving it a try! read more

First time here and it wasn't disappointing, the Croquettes and Brussels sprout salad is unbelievably good, made with cornbread batter that gives it an amazing flavor. Make sure to get the rose sangria to make it a full day. Delicious and filling. Only real issue if I have to list one is the service moves a little slow. read more

Their food was delicious and expertly prepared. Delicious presentation, and the serving size was more than adequate. For brunch, we came here and got the prime rib and the eggs avocado toast. It was incredibly enjoyable, flavorful, and excellent. It was a fantastic spot to eat. Awesome in every way! fantastic service! read more

Best meal I had in Chicago. The Portuguese-inspired menu left my whole group wanting to plan a trip…read moreto Portugal. Also, such a well designed space. My group was hyper fixated on one of the wall mounted fixtures. We did the $90 tasting menu, which was a great way to experience the menu -- but come on an empty stomach. You'll be full by the third course and there's still plenty more coming. PSA, everyone at the table must do the tasting menu in the group; can't be one person out of the group. The cocktails were good, but the food was great and absolutely the reason I'd come back. Our server also clearly loved his job and the restaurant, and it was palpable. That kind of genuine enthusiasm makes such a difference in a dining experience. Great food, great hospitality, and easily one of the highlights of our trip.

You can see them roasting meat in the open kitchen and it makes you want to get your food right away. Steak was a perfect medium rare, chicken was tender, and the pork hock had a great balance of flavors. But the showstopper for us were the oysters! You can order them in whatever quantity you want so I suggest everyone in your party have at least 1! I haven't tried anything like it and it was a good sour spice they got going on. New, not the typical cocktail sauce, just an explosion of flavor. Olivia was a great host. Recommended bars and food around the area which we really appreciated going to after dinner.

Ox bar is a lovely upscale restaurant with a rotating seasonal menu focused on fresh ingredients,…read morecomfort food (I wouldn't say soul food though), in a great location. To start we got the trout dip, the brioche loaf, and the beets. The beets were fine - tasty but nothing thrilling. The brioche was special, nearly dessert like, melt in your mouthy buttery bread toasted golden brown. The best app was the trout dip which was like a tuna salad but made with fresh fish and just insanely tasty. Even if you don't like fish this is a must get. We ordered mains I had the whole trout (more trout I know) which was excellent. Spiced well and a very generous portion for $50ish bucks We had a birthday at the table and service was slow (though our waitress Sarah was so excellent). I think realizing this they did something special for the birthday. We ordered the cookies because we heard those were incredible. When those came out we also received the fig crème brûlée, the apple fritter (with vanilla/apple ice cream), and chocolate gelato (with a candle). I don't know if this was typical, but for the three of us this was CRAZY. It was easily an extra $50 in dessert (which I'm not complaining). Okay but how was everything? Let's start with what we ordered, the cookies were excellent. Melt in your mouth and stuffed with a hunk of high quality dark chocolate. And if that wasn't enough, it came with incredible caramel sauce. The fig crème brûlée was tasty. Hint of fig in there brought out a deeper flavor in the crème and it was brûléed perfectly. The apple fritter was good, but nothing special. The vanilla ice cream was a lovely palette cleanser to the chocolate from the cookie. See if you can ask to get a scoop next time with the cookies. Finally, the tiny scoop of chocolate ice cream was excellent. It felt like there was a deeper flavor that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Super rich and luscious. Overall an incredible dinner and we will be back.

Wines were great though pricier than the cocktails which was interesting. Service was very prompt. We started with the perogi, lettuces, and smoked capocollo. The pierogi was delicious and a good shareable portion. The lettuce was like an elevated ceasar salad with plenty of cheese on top. The smoked capocollo was like a salty thick prosciutto - not really my favorite. We got the chicken as our entree, but this was definitely on the smaller side. It was well cooked though with a tasty crispy skin. Overall it was a nice meal but on the pricier side for the portions. I appreciate the use of well sourced ingredients though.

Back Again - Gemini Pt 2, but this time for brunch!…read more I enjoyed my first dinner experience here so much last week that we had to come right back to try their weekend brunch. From the start, the hostesses were inviting and lovely. The restaurant is very pretty, warmly blending a modern style with a touch of classic French bistro elegance. I'm mostly so impressed with how versatile the restaurant actually can be, shifting seamlessly from an elegant, upscale dinner setting with its beautiful U-shaped marble bar to a bright, whimsical, and enchantingly airy brunch setting. The fully opened bifold windows are adjacent to the pergola-topped patio, letting a glorious, cascading breeze drift through the space to create a wonderful indoor-outdoor flow and a lively weekend energy. Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered: Super Green Vegetable Salad: The kale, broccoli, avocado, asparagus, and peas were crisp and fresh. We loved this so much during our first dinner visit last week that we had to order it again for brunch! Spectacular! Nova Lox Platter: The wild salmon topped with diced red onion, capers, and hard-boiled egg crumble, served with an everything bagel and a side of chive cream cheese, was excellent. French Onion Frittata: The rich gruyère and caramelized onions were wonderful. If you're a French onion soup lover like me, this is a can't-miss!! Definitely will be reordered and often. Fantastic! Daily Omelette: Ordered from the special menu, featuring black truffle salsa, mascarpone, and Calabrian chile honey. It was absolutely phenomenal, perfectly cooked, and the flavor combination was incredible. Our server, Sarah, was excellent and made the experience even better - we even share the same name! The management team was also incredibly warm and attentive, stopping by our table to welcome us back. Returning twice in one week says it all. This restaurant has made it into my regular rotation and is hands down one of my new favorites!

I came here with three others and we all ordered different things from the brunch menu along with a few drinks. The atmosphere here is open, modern, and pretty eye catching, we all heard a few negative comments about brunch here and rather than just taking words of advice we came anyways. To be honest we should've went elsewhere, the only thing about the food that actually seemed to have any flavor was the fries and even they were a little salty like my wallet when we left LOL The Jumbo (not so much) Lump Crab Benedict at $25 was honestly boring lacking any flavor also it didn't even come with potatoes I ended up sharing my Lincoln Park Turkey Club that was good but even it was pretty basic at $21, the Burger at $21 literally looked like something off the kids menu the bun was bigger than the patty LOL and the Blackened Chicken Caesar at $19 was more like an appetizer size and the chicken at least it was juicy not dry. Other reviews about brunch here seem to be about the same and honestly I think it's funny they don't even try to elevate their food when so many say about the same things. I think the only reason why people come to this place is 1. It's located in Lincoln Park and 2. that makes it a trendy spot to eat. So why bother fixing anything when it's just trendy and flavorless Their brunch is mediocre but apparently dinner is where it's at. However after the experience with brunch I'm not even sure I would even go back. Come here for the staff eat at your own expense maybe your food will have flavor or not but honestly do what you want and keep it trendy
