The Peanut is not your run of the mill bar & grill. Well, they've got all the usual suspects for drinks and you'll not find any true top shelf stuff here, but you should be able to find a libation to fit your palette regardless. While most of the menu is pretty decent, the thing that sets The Peanut apart from all others is their Pterodactyl wings. No, they aren't actually fossilized 10' long wings, but they are the entire chicken wing (drum, flat, & tip). I, like many others, made the mistake the first time of coming here and ordering a dozen wings nonchalantly. Unless you're starving and could eat 24 wings from most other places; you'd be wise to stick to half a dozen. Their buffalo sauce is the perfect level of heat with the perfect peppery flavor profile. Honestly, The Peanut could have a food truck that only sold chicken wings and people would take the time to download an app to track it down; that's how good they are. *NOTE: These things take like 20 minutes to make, so if you want to get them to go, I strongly suggest you call in advance to place your order so it's ready for pickup*. This location in specific tends to get quite busy, even with the competing Austin's across 151st street. The parking lot can get pretty full, so you might have a bit of a walk to and fro, but it's certainly worth it to have a few adult beverages with friends while eating the best wings in town. read more

I remember back in the 80's, 1985 I believe, I came across a video tape, yes a video tape, VHS to be precise called the Craig Claiborne's NYTimes Video Cookbook. On this tape was a recipe for Janice Okun's chicken wings, supposedly taken from Teressa Bellissimo and the Anchor Bar who is credited with creating the "Buffalo" style chicken wing back in 1964. What does this have to do with the Peanut in Olathe Kansas, a full 1007 miles from the Anchor Bar in Buffalo. Well everything and nothing. I made these wings at home in Kansas City after watching that video and from that day forward I have judged every single wing by that standard, the gold standard. You simply cannot improve upon that original recipe, try as you might. This is not my first stop at the Peanut but it is my first at the Olathe location. There were 8 of us in the party and we were seated quickly, right across from a TV where we could watch the Kansas City Chiefs kick the shit out of the Minnesota Vikings. It's always a good day when the Chiefs win but it's even better when that victory comes with wings. Most wings come pre-cut. There's the drummie or the "one boner" and there is the wing or the flat, the "two boner." I prefer the two boner as does Nova but she was back in Iowa. At the Peanut, you are served full wings. The drummie, flat and wing tip are all still attached so be careful when ordering. For example. If you ordered a dozen wings at most places, you will get a mix of one and two boners, a dozen total. If you order a dozen wings at the Peanut you will receive a dozen full wings, which is 36 pieces, 24 of which are edible if you don't count the wing tips. What makes these wings so good. It's simple. They are traditional. They are deep fried, naked, on the bone and tossed in buffalo style sauce. Buffalo style sauce is simply hot sauce (Franks preferred) and butter. If you can't taste at least a hint of butter then you're not getting the original. If they are breaded, they are not original. If they are boneless, well then not only are they not original, they arn't even wings. The Peanuts are pretty damn close to original. We ordered a dozen buffalo and my nephew, much to my disgust also ordered six with sweet chili. I get it. Everyone's taste is different so I let it slide. We also ordered the BLT's with runny egg which is just the way that Lucifer intended for BLT's to be eaten. Everything was amazing even the sweet chili wings which I tried in protest. The wings of course were the star of the show. The Chiefs won and we had 6(12) wings left over which I brought back with me to Iowa. I planned on sharing them with Nova but finished them off during the writing of this. We stopped in Bethany Missouri at the Kum N Go to gas up, pee, buy some smokes because they are cheaper in Missouri then Iowa and grab some Monsters (Orange with Tea). I saw a little kid walk inside with his Mom and someone who I assumed was his sister, both of whom had Chiefs gear on. This sorry little kid was wearing a Vikings jersey and it broke my heart. Not because his team lost to a pretty injury riddled Chiefs team but because I can only imagine the ridicule and verbal emasculation he had to endure from these two women. I wanted to tell him that it never stops and will never stop as long as he lives and if he listens his life will end up just like his Vikings did today. But then I thought. Screw him. First time at the Peanut a couple weeks ago, the service was efficient and friendly, the food was good and the drinks were strong! My husband loved the Tiger (Asian zing) wings and Buffalo wings he got, my Roadhouse Burger was delicious, super big & very filling! Done to my preference of medium. This locations brings all of the good things The Peanut is known for and leaves some of the "charm" to the originals. The good things are the wings, the BLT and the other delicious bar food menu items along with a good sized beer and adult beverage selection. There's tons of tvs that are playing your game too. The sticky floors and gruff attitude that the original locations are known for unfortunately, didn't make it this deep in the suburbs. While that stuff can be a bit charming, I do like how I can focus on my game while knowing that my server will be there if I need him or her. read more

Standard bar food in a satellite location of the original classic pub. I tried the wings because of the mixed reviews and wanted to taste for myself if or why they should be so amazing. They are fried well and are a full wing with tips and all, so a dozen wings is a dozen flats and a dozen drums that you get to rip apart, sharing the odd splatter of sauce with your neighbors. For being fairly new, I was quite impressed. I usually set low expectations for newly open restaurants. I mean considering it's new, it's going too look better than the older establishments but it's really clean, and that was nice to walk in to. I went during lunch time on a Thursday in the middle of an ice storm :), they weren't fully but they weren't empty either! We order drinks and then I got the 3 wings and fries for lunch which was awesome! That's about all I get at the Peanut anymore, is the wings YUM! So go check them out. They're a low key neighborhood bar, grab some beers and some wings. read more

My lunch experience at this new location was very good. My grilled chicken sandwich with side ($10) was served just 10 minutes after I ordered. It was delicious, with a generous portion of chicken and tasty grilled veggies on a fresh bun. The service was exceptional (friendly, cheerful, helpful, and attentive). I liked the clean and nicely done interior, with 15 TVs, a full bar, 26 beers on tap, and 70's background music. Unfortunately, they do not currently offer lunch or happy hour specials. The wing sauce was amazing!!!! Too bad I ordered blue cheese to go with my fries. I order a BLT late with onion rings. The BLT was fine nothing I would order again, the onion rings were old. My son ordered a burger with fries. He did comment on the food. I may try this restaurant again to try the wings and I will go before 9 pm. Have to be fair in a review. Best wings on my entire cattle drive! They are HUGE and flavorful! Awesome black pepper addition really sets them apart. Some of my favorite wings other than mamaws. They service is solid, however I have seen them serve minors which, hey we all been kids lets em enjoy some cold coors light on a nice summer evening. My family & I stopped for lunch. I ordered the Greek salad and was charged 14.50. 4 days ago when I went , it was a little over 12.00. Apparently their menus changed. I'm not sure if this increase is due to suppliers increasing but 14.50 for a salad is ridiculous during lunch. I was surprised they didn't have any lunch menu items, only dinner prices. Although I do love their salads, it's going to be a hard pass. Food is WAY overpriced. They supposedly don't up charge on a few things now but it doesn't balance out. read more

Everything was top notch, the atmosphere was clean the service was great and most importantly the food tasted amazing! Whenever my husband and I try a new place for the first time we go all out! We ordered half a order of wings with original sauce those were fabulous takes about 20 mins to prepare(states it on the menu) well worth the wait! My husband ordered the Santa Fe burger which was so juicy and bursting with flavor! He ordered the the cole slaw, Mac and cheese and cheese fries! Non disappointed! I ordered the chicken Cesar wrap with cole slaw and fries and let me just say this was the best wrap I had eaten in a while! We will definitely be making a return to The Peanut! read more
