No one greeted us as we arrived at 2pm, offered menus, anything. We sat ourselves, ordered beers at the bar. Great beer selection. Found out after looking online that they had food and happy hour from 3-5pm. No problem, just don't expect a tip. Menu changes regularly based on old photos. We tried the roasted eggplant for $15, and waited until HH to get $2 off the smashburger. While the latter was quite good, the eggplant dish was standout unique and tasty. The sauce in which it was served harkened to African spicy peanut marinade, excellent match with the perfectly roasted eggplant. Wonderful salubrious surprise that will be recreated at home. I asked a fellow clearing plates the inspiration for this dish, he said he'd ask the chef but never got back to us. With all of 3 tables to concern himself with... The Parlay in Wailuku was fantastic for a quick lunch! I was in search for a good burger on the island and lady at the Maui Plantation told us to go back down the road into Wailuku and go to The Parlay for their Smash Burger. I'm glad we listened. We sat at the bar for quick service. The service was fast and super friendly. I ordered the Smash Burger with bacon and an order of garlic fries. Everything is a la carte so if you want fries, just know they do not come with the burger. Everything was delicious. The Smash Burger was perfectly cooked, seasoned wonderfully, and so juicy! The burger also had some spice to it! It had some pickled jalapenos on it and they added the perfect heat. I loved it. The garlic fries were perfectly fried and crispy and had a great garlic flavor and kick. I will definitely come back here on my next visit to island. read more

We were looking for a place to have a quick bite without a lot of fuss, when we stumbled upon this place. I must say, it's always nice when you're really amongst the locals. There is a large outdoor eating space (patio), which is always a plus. The vibe gives off, everybody's welcome to stop in for a meal and a drink or two. Lucky for us, there was live music. This guy hit every note the right way and let me applaud him for his electric guitar. I thought Prince had entered the room when he played and sang Purple Rain. We walked up and were quickly greeted. We ordered at the bar as directed then sat down. The music here was a great mix of b-sides and classics. I also had a quick conversation with the bartender who confirmed that the bar was loved by Deadheads. He was friendly. I wasn't too hungry so I had the macaroni and cheese. This was my first stop upon touching down! Live music? Incredible happy hour, great vibes, and smash burgers??! What more could a gal ask for after crushing 3 nights of phish at the sphere? To say this place is reviving me would be an absolute understatement. Further, when this joint has 99% 5 star reviews and 1 overly long descriptive 1 review...I think that only adds to the legitimacy of the establishment. This is the second time I've been to The Parlay, this time with my family. Everything about this place gets it right. The relaxed, retro vibe is the first thing I experienced, with the worn, lived-in furniture, soothing green color decor with lots of wood, people enjoying each other's company. The woman who took our order was charming and welcoming. My son-in-law ordered a smash burger and tater tots, my wife, daughter and I ordered a cucumber salad and eggplant. My son-in-law said the smash burger was one of the best he's ever had --- and he went back again with my daughter to order it again on another day. The Parlay Maui We've been on a bit of a sewing adventure lately & after class we're starving. Luckily The Parlay Maui just so happened to be in walking distance. Plus the three of us haven't been here yet. At least until now. From the street view this place looks hella cute. Plus it wasn't to busy inside when we arrived. You order & pay for your food with the cashier. Then you can sit wherever you like. Any drink orders are then placed at the bar with the bartender. We ordered a few plates to share. The garlic fries, thin cut fries with confit garlic. Fries are always fun & easy to eat. The Jalapeño pop dip, roasted jalapeño, cream cheese & Okinawaa potato chips. Was fun, I'd recommend mixing pieces of jalapeños to the dip. Plus added more veggies to dip. I actually preferred the celery crunch over the chips. Roasted cauliflower with miso beurre blanc, chili crunch, peanut & scallions. Definitely a fun way to eat cauliflower. Crispy brussels sprouts, prosciutto, parmesan & balsamic. This was my favorite dish, the flavor combos & textures were perfect. Blackberry bourbon smash, bourbon, blackberry syrup mint & lemon. Now this drink is strong but beautiful. However my current favorite goes to the Spa Collins with gin, cucumber, chereau aloe liqueur & soda water. Super tasty & simply refreshing. This would probably also make a fun date night spot too. Ordering is interesting: Food runners can take drink orders and drop product, but don't take food orders or cash out. You can place food orders and pay at the counter (or with your bartender if they're not busy) but drink orders will need to be paid with your bartender. Not very efficient if it's busy and you need to leave. Food is pretty quick if they can find you and your table number. $14 Smash burger is a hearty, greasy sando without garnishes. Didn't taste no pickled jalapeño and It's on the verge of collapse so use napkins. $24 Fish and chips are hot and tasty for three small pieces. $27 Steak Frites was great and slightly underseasoned. $18 Frozen Midori Sour was good and refreshing, but seemed like 1/3 froth. 5 gallon self serve water is near the kitchen window. Parlay has a great smashburger but don't walk run away from the garlic fries. They were hard dry and cold and when we told the server she told us they had switched to shoestring fries. We had to ask as she did not offer to get another batch. When they came same outcome. She did not offer to take off the bill which you have to pay for at the counter before you are served. So I paid $12 for fries that were terrible does not sound like much but no gesture or offer to credit my bill. Not customer oriented as you also have to purchase your drinks at the bar, but of course both purchases request tips even though it's self serve. read more

I had a boozy cold brew (which I loved) and my friend went full tropical with an Aperol Spritz. We shared the jalapeño popper dip which came with these absolutely amazing crispy purple sweet potato chips that I'm still thinking about. The dip itself was perfectly spicy. Didn't have a chance to stop at some of the stores, would have wanted to, but I didn't want to be around a bunch of druggies and homeless people. I left to get away from that. This restaurant/bar is pretty chill though, vibes are there, loud like a bar, but has outdoor seating which cancels a lot of the noise. Music is good.. and food is decent. Fish n chips were good, could have used some more flavor, but the sauce made up for it. The fried sweet potato was good. My fiancé gave the smash burger a 3.5 out of 5. We've been to parlay four times now and every time it has been great. We love the fun atmosphere. We had a smash burger, but forgot to tell them not to put the jalapeño sauce on it - too spicy. Had the best BLT I've ever had, and I'm a BLT aficionado. It's all about the bacon, well, it's also about the bread the lettuce and the tomatoes - all were excellent and plentiful.. Great cocktails, pricey, but good. And I can't forget the fish and chips and or FRESH FISH sandwich. The fish was perfectly cooked. Finally got to visit The Parlay this past weekend with some friends and was really looking forward to it after reading stellar reviews. I watched as they renovated and completely revamped the space this past year. They're located in Wailuku across of Upton Chevron. Upon walking through the gates, I really liked what I saw. The decor is very laid back, but still manages to be hip and modern. They have a nice outdoor area with lawn chairs on the left and more sturdy restaurant style tables and chairs on the right. Inside is small and quaint. I saw overhead head garage doors in a lot of trendy spaces on the mainland and was pleasantly surprised to see them here. Perhaps it's a fixture from it's previous life as a gas/service station? Either way, it really opens up the otherwise small, indoor space. The food and drink tab seems to be run separately or at least need to be ordered separately. We ordered drinks at the bar or with the server and food at the counter on the left. Happy Hour runs from 3-5pm here with a small selection of drinks and food items. My friends and I opted for the Cosmopolitan and off-menu drinks, which averaged around $14 or so. We also ordered garlic fries, squash fritters and chicken wings to snack on. The food came out really quickly, too quickly really and that's probably where it went south. The first chicken wing I ate, felt a little undercooked and noted to my friends that it was a little bloody and a bit questionable (I know it's ok as long as the food reaches the proper internal temperature). I brushed it off and carried on. The second wing I ate felt like a different texture, more gelatinous. We looked at the wing under a light to be sure and it was clearly still very RAW. It just happened to be the last wing left and we didn't want it to be like we ate all the food and decided to complain on the very last bite... so we just let the busser know who then went and told the chef and we moved on to another bar. Raw food, especially chicken, is just a really big no for me -- hence the two stars. It's unfortunate since I really wanted to love this place :( read more

Oopsies This place has a great outdoor ambiance for having lunch with your family! It's retro vibe with California business front layout, provides an ambiance that's very different from Maui. It's a nice twist in our day! The garlic fries are delicious with aioli sauce, the BLT on sour dough was scrumptious, and the 3 smash burgers had savory grilled flavor with jalapeños, the lemon wings had a great crumbly crispy batter. This business had great customer service, we made a great big oopsie, and they managed to problem solve without depriving us. We landed in Maui later in the evening and were looking for a place that was still open to grab a quick bite. I found The Parlay listed as open until 11:00 p.m., and it appeared they were serving burgers, which worked for us. We drove over and parked in the small parking lot directly behind the restaurant. There was an open door from the parking lot leading straight into the bar, so we walked in through that entrance, not realizing it was considered a "back door." There were about six customers sitting at the bar and three employees working. As soon as we walked in, one of the women behind the bar said, "You just walked in the back door, huh?!" which immediately felt unwelcoming. We sat down briefly, and a man asked if the car in the parking lot was mine. I said yes, and he told me I couldn't park there. When I asked where I was supposed to park instead, he said the parking garage -- which was closed at the time. At that point, we got up and started to leave. As we were walking out, one of the patrons at the bar intentionally pushed his chair back into me. I didn't engage and kept walking, as I was just trying to leave peacefully and get my family something to eat elsewhere. Overall, it was very clear we were not welcome. The atmosphere felt hostile, and the experience gave strong "locals-only dive bar" vibes. Unfortunately, this is not a place I would recommend to visitors or families looking for a meal. read more

The Parlay is Wailuku's newest bar and hangout spot in 2024. ATMOSPHERE: The former gas station's garage has been heavily renovated, chicly-decorated, kept its cool garage doors and houses a small bar and plenty of high tops. The attached office is now the walk-up food ordering window. The parking lot is now a spacious outdoor patio with a few tables and views of the town and West Maui Mountains. Brilliant! MENU: Creative cocktails, wine and beer. Handful of light entrees. EXPERIENCE: We had a few pre-First Friday cocktails before heading to the event. While I'd normally have one of their specialty drinks, I just had a boring prosecco. But my company made it fun as we talked and laughed in the perfect November Maui weather. SERVICE: Everyone was friendly. Sit anywhere. Order drinks through the servers. For food, order direct at the walk-up window and it'll be delivered to you. FUN FACT: This spot was supposed to be developed by 7 Eleven back in 2017 but it never came to fruition. OVERALL: I love having the option of outdoor dining and hope they add more tables in the future. A definite return as the croque madame is calling my name! read more

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. It's a good renovation of an old gas station that was a hippie New Age store for years. It's a cleaned up very polished concept of a sports bar and cocktail lounge. It uses what I call food truck service which you order at the counter and they give you a number and they bring food to you also order separately at the bar. I prefer traditional table service. My partner had a drink called the voodoo that she liked. I tasted it and thought it was interesting. We were their at happy hour. I had the Smashburger, which was greasy with some complex flavors my partner. My Partner had the fish & chips and we shared tater tots. All the food was fine and at happy hour pricing it was fairly priced. There are a couple of couches and low tables set up on one side of the bar area, which we sat at which are the nicest places to sit in the house. Regarding the intangibles, it has a good vibe kind of mainland kind of Seattle before grunge was famous vib. I don't know if they have live music but some live music would be fun. Street parking is an issue, but there is this new parking lot you could use. Parking structures don't match this restaurants hip hipster vibe anyhow. Overall decent likely to come back. read more

We went in on a Friday afternoon around 12ish and it was pretty quiet. There was only one other party there and another party had joined about half an hour later. I'm not sure how the evening flow/ordering process works but the lunch time flow was very lax and minimal service. You go in, grab your own menus, and seat yourself anywhere. Then you walk up to the bar and put in the order through the bartender. Then you wait as the food gets run out to you and then you walk up to the bar to close out your tab and pay. You get your own water from a community jug. I personally didn't really care for the style of service, I went in expecting something else for the first time. I think I'd come back if I didn't want service and just wanted to do my own thing. But the employees were sweet in any interaction I had, albeit minimal. We ordered a fish burger and the smash burger. I thought the smash burger was pretty good. A little too sweet for my taste but overall very tasty. Ordered fries with it too. We were so happy to visit this place since it finally got new owners and a new lease on life. The outside is lovely with fake grass, walkways, benches, chairs and tables. The inside was a little noisy, but we sat at the bar where the bartender was happy, skilled, and friendly. My friend had the kale salad and I had the BLT. I had a Prosecco and she opted for one of the new non-alcoholic drinks they serve. We were promptly served, both dishes were tasty, and I don't like kale!
