I stopped in for a quick snack doing a little food tour of Flushing and picked up the pork pancake. Service was quick and efficient. I recall on my first bite how something about the flavor reminded me of a classic egg roll, perhaps because there are fried and the oil was giving that flavor. I can't tell you how long these were sitting before I bought so I might not have received one fresh out of the oven. Overall I thought the flavor was good and it made for a nice snack. Been passing by this little hole-in-the-wall vendor spot for quite awhile now after getting out from the 7 train since that's always the first thing I see. At last, I've decided to stop by this time around & actually buy a quick bite to munch on before taking the train today. The Pancake (杨记鲜椒饼) is located inside a newer but smaller food court called YF Square. Shares space with two other booths inside, Xiaowei Mala Yabo + Nuanxin Rice Roll. Gotta check those booths out another time. I was informed by staff that The Pancake has only been here for two months, so it's still fairly new & thus a warm welcome to the Flushing neighborhood! Staff greeted customers warmly with a smile as you started ordering one of those savory pancakes (or Chinese/Guizhounese-styled arepas for short) when getting up to the counter. Service was super fast, in fact there wasn't anyone else at that moment. Not sure if they were accepting credit/debit cards as payment, but it's always a good idea to carry some cash with you. I noticed that there was Spanish wording of translation written underneath each of the pancake flavors. I hardly ever see Spanish translation on the menu at a Chinese takeaway place on Main Street. To say the least, I was very impressed with that small detail right there. Later on, I found out and learned that the new business was run by a Chinese family with a Dominican son-in-law hence some of the Spanish wording. There're just 6 different types of pancakes like chicken, beef, pork, plain, cheese, and scallion. For starters, I went with cheese to see how I was liking it without any meat inside. The cheese filling was gooey but not melted enough for me because I was hoping it would be more melted in a way. Still tasty nevertheless. Not too fulfilling nor too heavy which was quite surprising to me since it'd cheese to begin with. Size/portion wise made a great snack or an enjoyable meal for under $10. Super affordable! Life is Short F....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends well, I know the food tour and flushing. We're actually looking for a different pancake place, which was actually closed. When walking by you smell like nice savory smell of fresh dough and meats cooking. Didn't even know this place was here but decided to try it and guys this is a do not pass place . I came back for the pork pancake but this time the dough wasn't as light and fluffy. The young worker asked if I wanted a drink for a special price of $3.99. I chose Peach Coconut Milk with ice (after she asked if I wanted ice). The drink was room temperature at best and not cold. That was a disappointment but I was already a few blocks away and didn't want to walk back to ask for it to be cold. The cup felt cool but somehow the drink wasn't. WOW! WOW! WOW! My favorite new thing to eat in Flushing. I can't imagine this place not blowing up at some point. On the other hand, I can imagine this shop becoming an Instagram sensation when finally discovered by some social media influencer. It definitely has all the right ingredients. These crispy and fluffy pancakes from Guizhou are absolute winners. Better than any other "pancakes" I have eaten in the US, they certainly remind me of the best pancakes I experienced in China. The best part is that they are served fresh and extremely hot out of the fryer. In fact, I had a hard time holding the wrapper for a picture because it was burning my fingertips. Also, if you do catch them during off peak hours, I highly recommend asking for a new one that they can fry up in about 15 minutes. It's well worth the wait imho. These wonderful pockets of dough are filled with various meats, seafood, and veggies. My favorites are scallion and pork at the moment, but beef and shrimp are good too. The cheese was interesting and made me think of a pupusas, but with crispier and fluffier bread. All options are deliciously seasoned with a hint of mala, which leaves a slight tingle on your tongue. The numbing effect is not bad at all, just enough for you to recognize the important role it plays in the grand scheme of things. IMPORTANT NOTE: If at all possible, wait for the newest batch coming out of the fryer regardless of filling. The freshness makes a truly profound difference in the taste of the dough. Trust me, it's really worth the wait. Btw, this is truly a family business. The Pancake is not just a mom and pop shop, it involves a grandma, grandpa, and a baby too. Such an interesting family that I had the privilege of chatting with today. Ruby, who works the cashier is pregnant with her second child. Her husband Daniel is Dominican and speaks fluent English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and even some French. Grandma and grandpa, who are kneading the dough and frying the pancakes, just immigrated from Guizhou last year. We are lucky they did, or we would never have this gem here. Together, the fantastic pancake and the savory filling full of umami makes such an unbelievably amazing combination. Knowing it's always made fresh and never frozen is a bonus. There is definitely nothing else like it in NYC that I have seen ... ... and I am very thankful it's in the heart of Flushing. read more

An unassuming shop that serves fried scallion pancakes with pork and beef fillings. The exterior is crispy and the inside is soft with small amounts of your choice in protein. They fry the pancakes in batches and we happened to arrive as they were coming out of the pan so they were super hot and fresh. They also serve a variety of drinks that are made fresh in a blender with various mixed grains, sesame, etc. which you can get as combos with the pancakes. All super delicious and perfect for a simple, grab and go breakfast. This is definitely a to-go spot (just a couple of small tables and chairs in the back). This shop is inside a mini food court. The pancake pictures are outside so it's easy to find the shop. They are the first stall on the left and it was still breakfast time (before 10:30am) so they had a deal. Buy a pancake and get a corn millet drink. It was tasty, warm and subtle. I got the beef and chicken pancake. Both were tasty, but I feel like the chicken can use more filling. The pancake was nice and crispy from being fried and it was chewy in the inside. So I went to pick up some pancakes and when I got there unfortunately only premade ones and no one was making them fresh. I decided to get a cheese and a pork version to try. Went home and had them for breakfast next day after toasting/warming them. I liked the cheese one slot. The pork version was good as well. Will go back future to try rest and hopefully I get there early when they are making so can eat it hot. Forgot to take pics this time. Only one lady there and she was nice. Thanks to our fellow super yelper Gordon Y, I had to give this a try while I was in flushing with our of town guest. Pro tip from Gordon that is a must-ask for a fresh pancake. So delicious, warm and yummy. We ordered the pork and the shrimp. Service was so accommodating. I ask them to cut into quarters and they did exactly what I asked happily. I even chatted up another customer. You know it's good when the customer came in the morning and then again in the afternoon for another one. I liked both the flavors but referred pork more. I'm not a fan of the water chestnut in the shrimp one. Love the ting of the mala in both. Definitely a no frills fast food joint. Good for a food crawl or snack. read more

I checked out this place today after seeing some of the awesome reviews, I got the beef pancake (they also have plain, cheese, chicken, and pork I think). It's $8, came out warm from a warmer where all the pancakes were stored. I went late in the afternoon so they weren't making fresh new batches (I know some reviewers mentioned freshly made ones makes a big difference so I'll try it again in the morning to give it another chance). I wasn't blown away by the pancake but beef tasted fresh. I think it would be better if it was seasoned a bit more, scallion helped cut through the grease. Good to try 1-2x but not something I'd be craving again. read more

I tried the plain pancake, but I didn't get to eat it until about an hour later. It was a bit chewy for my taste and a bit too oily, but I think it would have tasted better if I had it immediately. I would love to try some other fillings, but I'll definitely eat it immediately, hopefully it's as good as others say it is! read more
