Grandma frying up the final product

WOW! WOW! WOW! My favorite new thing to eat in Flushing. I can't imagine this place not blowing up at some point. On the other hand, I can imagine this shop becoming an Instagram sensation when finally discovered by some social media influencer. It definitely has all the right ingredients. These crispy and fluffy pancakes from Guizhou are absolute winners. Better than any other "pancakes" I have eaten in the US, they certainly remind me of the best pancakes I experienced in China. The best part is that they are served fresh and extremely hot out of the fryer. In fact, I had a hard time holding the wrapper for a picture because it was burning my fingertips. Also, if you do catch them during off peak hours, I highly recommend asking for a new one that they can fry up in about 15 minutes. It's well worth the wait imho. These wonderful pockets of dough are filled with various meats, seafood, and veggies. My favorites are scallion and pork at the moment, but beef and shrimp are good too. The cheese was interesting and made me think of a pupusas, but with crispier and fluffier bread. All options are deliciously seasoned with a hint of mala, which leaves a slight tingle on your tongue. The numbing effect is not bad at all, just enough for you to recognize the important role it plays in the grand scheme of things. IMPORTANT NOTE: If at all possible, wait for the newest batch coming out of the fryer regardless of filling. The freshness makes a truly profound difference in the taste of the dough. Trust me, it's really worth the wait. Btw, this is truly a family business. The Pancake is not just a mom and pop shop, it involves a grandma, grandpa, and a baby too. Such an interesting family that I had the privilege of chatting with today. Ruby, who works the cashier is pregnant with her second child. Her husband Daniel is Dominican and speaks fluent English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and even some French. Grandma and grandpa, who are kneading the dough and frying the pancakes, just immigrated from Guizhou last year. We are lucky they did, or we would never have this gem here. Together, the fantastic pancake and the savory filling full of umami makes such an unbelievably amazing combination. Knowing it's always made fresh and never frozen is a bonus. There is definitely nothing else like it in NYC that I have seen ... ... and I am very thankful it's in the heart of Flushing.

An unassuming shop that serves fried scallion pancakes with pork and beef fillings. The exterior is crispy and the inside is soft with small amounts of your choice in protein. They fry the pancakes in batches and we happened to arrive as they were coming out of the pan so they were super hot and fresh. They also serve a variety of drinks that are made fresh in a blender with various mixed grains, sesame, etc. which you can get as combos with the pancakes. All super delicious and perfect for a simple, grab and go breakfast. This is definitely a to-go spot (just a couple of small tables and chairs in the back). Affordable and filling - bring cash!

I was looking for a cheap and quick breakfast in the area and decided to give this place a try. I also saw it on an influencer's IG recently. I got the pork pancake which came with free corn milk. It was my first time having corn milk and I loved it. The pancake was really good and filling. Only $6 for a solid breakfast!

This shop is inside a mini food court. The pancake pictures are outside so it's easy to find the shop. They are the first stall on the left and it was still breakfast time (before 10:30am) so they had a deal. Buy a pancake and get a corn millet drink. It was tasty, warm and subtle. I got the beef and chicken pancake. Both were tasty, but I feel like the chicken can use more filling. The pancake was nice and crispy from being fried and it was chewy in the inside. The service was quick and patient. I will come back especially with the breakfast deal.

These are fried bread stuff with different choices - chicken, pork or beef. Nice crispy outside and soft bread with filling. Best eaten hot.

We opted to sit outside but what was nice about that is that their walls are made of glass so we could still see inside and people watch while still enjoying the fresh outdoors. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. We told her we ate already and just wanted drinks and maybe dessert. She took our order and we did end up ordering their vanilla flan and their chocolate cake flan. Both were delicious. Later on, I asked our waitress if I can sing and immediately she encourage me to come in and told the DJ which song I wanted and they handed me the mic. The people in the restaurant was awesome as they cheer me on as I sang Vivir mi Vida by Mark Anthony. I definitely would say to give this place a try. Great local restaurant in the neighborhood, where you can have fun without venturing into the city. Love it!

Concha 2.0/5.0: This classic bread was a bit of a dissapointment, as I expected way more flavor from the craggly and creviced topping which did not have much flavor. The bread itself was a tad bland and dry, the later probably due to me not eating the bread until the following day. Danish style bread (Chamuco) 3.0/5.0: I think this Danish looking bread is probably a Chamuco (after searching the internet), and it was just okay. The small custard filling was decent tasting having a slight creaminess and sweetness, but I wish there was more of it used. The bread itself had a nice eggy (think challah) flavor, but as with the Concha, a tad dry. Again, this could be due to me eating it the following day. Sugar-topped Bread (El Volcan) 5.0/5.0: Searching the internet for Mexican bread descriptions and comparing it to the what I purchased, I believe what I bought was a El Volcan bread. It had a slightly crumbly and dry scone-like texture. Its flavor was quite interesting, too, having a distinct brown sugar like taste, which was contrasted by the topping of white sugar on top. I really enjoyed this bread and would definitely buy it again. Considering the plethora of breads available, Veyta's is certainly worth another visit if I'm in the area.

I really enjoyed lunch at this place! They've recently rebranded to Austin Street Cafe/Bar & Grill…read more- and they have a sort of diner-esque vibe with a full-service bar ($7 happy hour cocktails!!!) They started us off with a croissant on the house, which was pretty good. Nice attention to detail as it was served with a heart-shaped side of butter. Also part of their happy hour menu are a couple select bar bites. I went for the chicken quesadillas, and it was a hearty portion at their price point. And it had a great flavor - chicken was nice and juicy. Natalie was our server, and was very attentive and friendly throughout our time here. And just when we thought it couldn't get better, Natalie and the manager brought us some cookies on the house to take home. Nothing but praise to be sung about this spot - I hear they're looking into possibly incorporating live music next. Will definitely be back - two thumbs up!

This place has been renamed "Austin Street coffee and grill" and has an updated menu…read more First off, I want to point out the great customer service from the young man working on a Saturday morning. I heard him making jokes with customers and asking people for feedback. Now to the rest of it: service is weird and slow. When we were seated, we had to wait a little bit until receiving menus. Water wasn't automatically given to us also, so you have to ask. A woman took down our order, but later asked if we got waffles, even though I said pancakes - overall took 25 minutes to get our order of a salad and pancakes. Pancake platter came with two pancakes, two eggs, and a couple berries on the side. There's also an option to add sausage or bacon but no price there, which adds to the confusion. When we pointed it out, they removed the charge from our bill. There were maybe 3 people who stood behind the coffee bar which is kind of around a corner, making it hard to get service if you're not in their field of vision. Kind of strange there isn't a clear welcoming desk or something like that. Also, I think the menu uses AI as photos - there's a picture of a burger with fries and chips, but I don't think they serve chips. There's also a picture of cake with garlic next to it, which could be an artistic choice. We didn't get any drinks, but there was a table next to us who abandoned their full cups of Nutella lattes which was interesting.
