This was not just a bad stay. It was a complete failure of basic hospitality…read more We bring multiple large tour groups through this area every year, and until now, we've stayed at this hotel without fail. After this last experience, we're done. And unless major changes are made, so should you. This week we booked 27 rooms. * We were given keys to rooms that hadn't even been cleaned. * Even after four separate requests, no one cleaned our room. They eventually left us sheets to make the bed ourselves. At 9 PM, we were making our own beds, hoping the linens were clean. * Many rooms had no towels. No toilet paper. In one case, the previous guest's waste was still in the toilet. * One room had acupuncture needles scattered across the carpet. * Most of the TVs didn't work. * Guests were charged multiple times for laundry services they never got to use, and were told the hotel "wasn't responsible" because it's a third-party machine. * Breakfast consisted of dry cereal and no milk. * The banquet room we paid for was unusable due to a broken AC system. The lobby was sweltering. * When we tried to escalate our concerns, the front desk staff either disappeared for long stretches or responded with open hostility and condescension. * Worst of all? The general manager. Universally described by our group as the rudest and most unprofessional person they dealt with. When we asked who else we could speak to, we were told the owner's contact wasn't available. Instead, we were handed a Hotmail address, harshpatel322@hotmail.com. In my career, I've spent over 2,000 nights in hotels. I have never left a review before. This hotel doesn't just have problems, it's built on neglect, indifference, and a complete lack of accountability. They act like they can treat guests however they like and still stay full because of their location. Maybe they're right. Unless this hotel undergoes serious changes in management, operations, and basic hygiene standards, my tour company will never stay here again. And I will make sure every tour operator I know hears about this disaster.

After explaining that i had called and been assured that i was assigned a room on second floor, the person checking us in has told me there are no notes in the system about my request. Both times they were able to give us a room on second floor, but it's frustrating that they have no notes of my request. This last time (on 10/31), we were also quoted a price of $128 on the phone but were charged $139 when we got there. When i questioned the rate, i was told there was nothing they could do to override the system. I was given the email address of the hotel manager, but she never responded to my email. Aside from these frustrations, the rooms have been quiet, which we are thankful for after having driven 800 miles.

We can see why this is so popular in the winter. It's just simply perfect. I could picture being snowed in like in the movies and loving it. This is located on a nice road very easy to get to. Not far from the bustling downtown of Geneva. But far enough to be nestled in the country. We even got pizza delivery here which was an awesome surprise that the local pizzeria offers. We enjoyed the clean and wonderful hot tub. The interior had everything we could have needed and more. Thank you for the eggs and the coffee creamer! The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. For being a historic home everything had such nice charm and style. The bathroom was fully updated and the downstairs bedroom had the perfect vibe I'd love in my own home. Beautiful flowers galore. The host Diane was friendly via the app and self check in was a breeze. We were left alone and felt totally safe and comfortable. I'd love to come back with my husband for a get away. This is a great place, highly recommend. Note though... when trying to locate it. Our gps took us up the hill along the backside of the owners house.. this was a dirt pathway - not the right way. The sign was deceiving. The cottage is directly next to the house, right off the paved road. Bonus points to the host for having the awesome array of dvds and games. This was so fun for us girls.

The owners are kind and nice. You may get a fun visit from a black cat named Salem (loves milk and pets). The fireplace was my favorite. I sat and drank beer in front if it and did some coding and was totally lovely. It has a little warming nook and a rack to hang a dutch oven over the fire if you really want to go old school and cook on it. Just as lively was multiple champagne drinking sessions in the hot-tub. Lots of dry wood to burn. Recommend that you bring a bit of your own firewood just to keep the supply up as well as a bit of spring water if you're gonna cook / drink a lot and stay in.

Unlike the cookie cutter rooms of the typical hotel, each guest room here is unique, decorated with different antiques and amenities. In contrast to the antique 4 poster bed and traditional decoration, our room had a modern bathroom with a small shower. We also had a large jacuzzi which we enjoyed and a fireplace that we didn't try out with temperatures in the 80's. You can check out the decor and amenities of each room on their website to see which room you would like best. Note that the prices for some rooms do not include breakfast, for those who do not want to indulge, although their breakfast is something you do not want to miss. Scattered throughout the B & B are small refrigerators stocked with complimentary soft drinks and ice. There are several coffee stations with assorted K-cups and a nice selection of teas. Each day freshly baked cookies are put out. Each room has a basket of complimentary bagged snacks. Also scattered around and in the rooms are "emergency boxes" filled with things that you might need, but probably didn't bring, such as scissors, a flashlight, band-aids and batteries. As you wander the halls you will find bookcases with books to read and games to play and displays of tourist information. The grounds of the house are beautifully landscaped and you can sit in a rocking chair on the veranda, or have a picnic at the tables and chairs in the garden. For the more actively inclined, there is a woods behind the house with several walking trails. Each morning the guests would gather in the antique filled living room awaiting the start of breakfast. Breakfast was a communal affair, with all guests seated around the dining room table. Each morning Chef Nate would prepare a five star, three course breakfast. The first course would be a fruit dish such as a fruit parfait or fresh local fruit, the second, a savory dish such as Eggs Florentine or Baked Eggs (like a quiche without a crust) and the meal would conclude with a sweet dish such as crepes, a cinnamon scone, or a waffle with fresh maple syrup. Also available to nibble on were local grapes and freshly baked coffee cake, After breakfast Nate would discuss with the guests what their interests were and would provide us with recommendations on where to go, brochures and maps. While most of the wineries in the Finger Lakes are on the other lakes, there are a few in the area and Nate had passes for a discounted tasting. Lake Canandaigua is a short drive away as is Main Street in Canandaigua. Main Street is filled with interesting little shops, bakeries and cafes and you can spend the day walking from place to place. There are a few minor things about the Sutherland House that some people might find negative. The building is not handicap accessible. There are several steps going up to the main floor, and most of the rooms require a trek up a long, narrow, winding stairway. There is not daily housekeeping service. If you need somebody to pick up after you, this is probably not the place for you. There is no Innkeeper on the premises in the afternoon or evening. In the morning Nate takes care of things, but after that if you need something you have to make a call. The A/C in our room didn't work very well. Fortunately there was a ceiling fan that cooled the room off pretty well, and the floor to ceiling windows could be opened to let in the cool night air. Hopefully, they have repaired or replaced the a/c by now. All in all, if you're looking for a relaxing stay in the Finger Lakes, in a beautiful old building with a gourmet breakfast, I highly recommend the Sutherland House.

Don't get me wrong, it's expensive. But for once I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth! Everything everywhere was meticulously clean and well-kept. Our room was spacious and bright, with a private balcony and chairs, a couch and coffee table, and a full table that allowed us to take comfortable advantage of the room service breakfast. Potpourri sachets in the closet, free water bottles in the lobby, free coffee stations on each floor, and chocolates every night on the pillows--details, people! We also enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub, and of course the gorgeous patio and firepits overlooking the lake which was 80% of the reason we booked here. All of the staff we encountered, from the front desk to the housekeepers, were very friendly. I did think it was a little strange that the fitness center was in a whole different building and you have to walk across the parking lot to get to it, but hey--you get your steps in. The hotel is also very centrally located. On the water, of course, but next door to Seneca Harbor Station from which you can book lake cruises. It's also less than a mile from the entrance to Watkins Glen State Park and hiking trails and only a 5-10 minute walk from most restaurants. We did most things on foot. When you do get back in the car, there are multiple wineries within a 15-minute drive. The only problem the whole visit was the hotel internet, which was terrible every day. You could make do in the daytime, but at night, when everyone was back in their rooms after the day out exploring, it was slow to the point of unusable, and I ended up turning on my data hotspot to even be able to check my email. I would not suggest bringing time-sensitive work with you, and you should not expect to be able to stream videos on your devices. Just disconnect, you'll be less frustrated. There is an onsite restaurant and bar, and while it's nothing mind-blowing, it is a nice option to have (and is one of the few "higher end" type places in Watkins Glen). Menu includes a few of the standard local wines, which was nice!

The only odd thing about our stay was the check-in process. I said " I sure hope you're recording this call, because I haven't cussed " at you" once! She said, " You said "If I'm packing my shit up, I'm only doing it once." I said" That is not cussing at you, I'm talking about packing my shit up!" She hung up on me. I'm done with Hampton Inn completely. They clearly can't make a repeat guest comfortable and I drive for a living. I'll be staying elsewhere.
