Today after church, I went to Original Mels with family and friends, and we had such a great experience. We shared a meal together, and everything was on point. The food came out quickly, hot, and in generous portions, which was perfect because we were all pretty hungry after church and hadn't decided where to go until we found this spot. The ambiance was really cute, giving an old-fashioned, almost Riverdale-type vibe. It felt like a nice little getaway. We were seated and eating within about 10 to 15 minutes, and everything tasted amazing. The service was just as great. Our waiters were attentive, but I especially want to shout out Caitlyn. She was incredibly kind, patient, and attentive to our large group of about 10 people. She handled everything so well and made our experience even better. She truly deserves recognition and made a big impact just by how she showed up for us. read more

I visited Mel's Friday late evening 2-13-26. I took a seat at the counter. My server, Evan, was far too busy with a party of 10. He served cornbread, then saw him near end of meal to see "how I was doing". He missed the meal, my empty glass and a side dish. I had to ask for everything from expediter--a very nice guy, who clearly was experienced and helpful. I thought it unusual for a server to only take an order, but never serves. The cod and fries were fine, but 1/3 of the meal missing. The 3 stars were for partial meal, lack of attention by "server". Food was good (no side dish- potato salad), packaged frozen cod. Tipped 20% (lowest I do for service clearly not given by a waiter). During entire seating, I never Seen him pick up any food from kitchen. So not sure of role of "server". Service was good, came in on a Sunday morning. Was fairly busy but got our food in a timely manner. I ordered the 2 eggs with hash browns and biscuit with gravy on the side. I order Mels a lot through doordash. The last 6 or 7 times they have forgotten things on my order like sides ( bacon, gravy, toast, drinks. Its always something. $7.72 for a side of bacon an it's missing or $4.75 for a soda that's not there. These things are expensive an should be in the order or refunded. There is never any napkins, condiments or utensils in the bag. Thats a huge part of take out. This is becoming a regular thing. Train your togo waitress or get rid of her/him because this is not acceptable. Someone is making money off forgotten items that are clearly on my reciept an were paid for. Now I'm mad. Mistakes happen but this is starting to look like it's on purpose. An doordash doesnt refund for restaurants mistakes. I will be reporting this to managers, corporate. Walked in on a weekday for lunch and was served immediately. Service was outstanding by both waitresses we encountered. What we got: San Francisco Melburger (4/5) -- Patty doneness exactly as I asked and everything tasted great together. Only comments are the sourdough wasn't as sour as I'm used to and a lot of the bacon was so hard that I was hesitant to chew for the sake of my teeth. Got standard fries to go alongside and they were very dry and flavorless Fish and chips (4/5) -- My dad enjoyed this even though I thought the fish pieces could have been a little larger. This diner reminds me of the movie Grease! I brought my little one and he was so intrigued by the decor inside. I ordered the corn beef hash and asked for extra crispy hash and my mom ordered an extra hot clam chowder and burger. We made a few requests and our server granted every one of those requests. The portions were decent sized and the pricings were average. The restaurant wasnt too busy when we came for lunch right before Thanksgiving, so there wasn't a wait. Last Saturday 8/30/2025 around 7pm I took my family of 6 to this location of Mel's. Whe have been here numerous times but this time was the worst service imaginable. The waitress kept rushing us to place an order after we were seeted. Mel's Menu is the worst of all with little font size and no pictures & I forgot to bring my reading glasses which didn't help. An employee brings in a sampler with no plates to share the food amongst ourselves. We were starving so we grabed napkins and used them as plates. The restaurant wasn't that busy so the food arrived with 10-15 minutes which is excellent. I had to ask for silverware! It was never placed on our table after we were seeted. My son ordered garlic fries with his meal but got the regular fries. After he pointed out to the waitress, she brought him the garlic fries in ten minutes or so and let him have the regular fries. This was our worst experience overall. Our kids like Mel's so we went there but not again. I still tipped the waitress even though I thought of zero tip to express my dismay. For the management: you can check the cameras as we were the only brown family there even though the waitress and the cashier were black, not that it should ever matter. My slice of pie looked like it had fallen and placed in a to go container. The filling was runny and the meringue was liquidy falling off the pie. The crust was crumbs. Terrible product quality and service. Perhaps it was left out at room temperature too long while the rest of my order being prepared. At 5.99 a slice, I expect better quality. Do better! read more

Worst meal I've ever had at Mels. Didn't like the turkey or stuffing. The server was kind. I settled for a salad. Busy atmosphere. Most days the service is really good. Every once in awhile I have to take the 2nd photo into account. Love the milk shakes although the last time we went the server asked us what flavor she could split for us? A bit presumptuous especially since we wanted different flavors. I did notice that our shakes were less full and had less syrup that visit. Best burgers but that same server argued that no pink was the same as well done. Not in my opinion especially since that burger ended up being crunchy around the edges. They have a large menu, and serve breakfast all day. The jukebox wasn't playing the last couple times we went but the music is nice when it does. Driving home late at night after visiting a friend in the hospital doesn't make for many eating options in Solano County. At 10 pm, we're asking would you rather have Denny's or Mel's? Mel's it is! When we entered we found a refurbished dining room that looked really good. Friendly staff were working and seated us right away. There was actually quite a bit of business for the time of night on a weeknight. My wife ordered the BLTA with fries and I ordered the open faced hot turkey sandwich. Her's looked (and according to her) tasted great! Mine was very good, but initially was missing the cranberry sauce. They fixed that once I mentioned it. The breakfast is always good. I normally get takeout by habit since the pandemic. But I recently dined in and the service was great... my waiter was the best. Check on you came with refill beverage. Wish I could say the same for the host. They seated at least three guests before me. When I approached the host I got a stare as though I needed to wait my turn. I walked away to avoid making a scene then I approached a different worker who inquired with the same hostess who brushed it off saying he didn't know how my phone number got overlooked. Several times we've been there she basically ruined our dining experience with annoying everyone in the area of their "bussing station" towards the far side of the dining area. She has a habit of loudly crashing dishes as if she has an attitude towards the customers. Many other patrons are obviously very annoyed with the very loud noise she makes, I had to actually bring this up to the cashier this time. Was informed she's had many complaints already. Other than that we've mostly had very good food and service here, especially Kaitlyn (spelling?) who goes above and beyond her duties. All the servers are friendly and attentive. Have t been here ina very long time but it was just as good as I remembered! We came here for breakfast after a day of checking out open houses and model homes. The place was packed but we were able to get on wait list and seated within 10 minutes. Our server came right away and took our drink orders of water and sodas. As soon as brought out our drinks, we were able to place our orders. The menu is quite overwhelming but we each found something we wanted. I ordered the corned beef hash, hubby and mini me got a burger and her boyfriend got the chicken fried steak meal. The diner is very cute And the vibe is very chill. Everything was great until a man walked in carrying his dog with a dog bed. I totally support a service dog. This was not a service dog. I'm more disgusted the man had a bed he's placing on the seat that people are going to sit at. Dog beds are infested with fleas, dog hair and etc. My friend is scared and allergic to dogs. Why would a dog and its bed be allowed in a restaurant. I'm sure there's nothing you can do as a business but as a customer I choose not to support a place that allows that kind of behavior. We stopped in today, Sunday at noon, for the first time and weren't surprised by the wait. The hostess pointed us to a tablet to enter our name for the wait list. I watched my wife enter the number in party (2), her email, cell phone, and afterward we saw a 4 to 14 min wait on the screen. OK, we waited. Several people were called, several came in behind us. After about 10 mins we peered at the tablet to try to see our name. Nothing. We asked the hostess for help and were told to just enter our info. Now it came back with a new 20 min wait. Ugh. We left. Our waitress did very well and it was really packed a lot of people in there during breakfast time. A tip make sure you wear a jacket in there. It is really cold inside. The food was great but the service was horrible. We ordered the Alaskan cod meal which came with 2 sides for 16.99. We opted in for double fries. Waiter offered curly fries instead of regular fries not telling or informing us it was an up charge. What was not a bill of 20.99 when we paid they said they could "discount" this time and took $1.00 off. Thats not how this customer service should work. Not worried about the price worried about them being Informative. I have gone to mels for years and never had such poor service.
