being a pescetarian and new to the frederick food scene (this restaurant was officially my 1st time in frederick), i will give it a 3.5 star rating for being ingenious for freshness of ingredients, taste, and variety of stir fries. i chose the tofu indonesian stir fry lunch and we had the vegetable tempura for appetizers. the stir fry was really fresh and tangy, while the tempura was still crispy from being magically swished from the deep fryer to our plate. the place got a 3 for service: a-ok. i had to ask for water twice before we got it and we were never offered what the house specials were. maybe our waitress was distracted or just busy. i'm sure it could have been better and i would like to come again because it seems like a homie-local friendly place to eat. hope it's a better time next time. read more

I love Frederick mostly because it has amazing restaurants and a lovely historic downtown. We've been meaning to try The Orchard and I'm so glad we finally did! Tons of vegetarian options and a really diverse menu with local brews. I ordered the pad Thai which was spicier than I prefer but it was delicious and flavorful. It's tough to find quick, fresh, healthy dishes--but they are plentiful here! I had the Japanese Stir Fry and was very pleased. Can't wait to try a salad or wrap or better yet an entree for dinner! This place was amazing! All the food was excellent and the service was very responsive and friendly as well. We had a party of eight and all the food came out at the same time, and hot, which is rare. I got the Szechuan stir fry which was great and spicy! I tried my boyfriends sandwich on homemade bread and my brother's parmesan chicken which was really good as well. The fruit and cheese platter is excellent to start out with. A quick update: we have indeed been back a good half-dozen times since our first visit, and the food and service continue to be notably great. All of the stir-fry options are delicious (and we've tried them all at this point), the desserts are routinely amazing, and those salad dressings and dipping sauces make it impossible to skip the appetizers. Having to spend the weekend in the DC area for work, I was in search of a decent restaurant somewhere within driving distance. After looking through some websites of the surrounding area, touristic Frederick seemed like as good enough a place as any. Ending up on Market Street is was a pleasant surprise to see a wide array of restaurant options. The Orchard is on a corner, and the sidewalk specials menu with fresh soups drew my attention. The gazpacho was fresh although I would have preferred a bit of spice and the chewy ends of the tomatoes were thrown in for extra measure (or texture). The veggie melt was toasted and tasty with sprouts, avocado, and cheese. The IPA on tap was quite good from a local brewery - The Flying Dog. read more

This place needs more reviews because it is AWESOME. My boyfriend and I went here on a whim and were so happy with everything. The quality of the food is really good, and like others have said, you can taste how fresh everything is. Lots and lots of options, and can satisfy anyone, from a vegan to a meat lover. And amazing value for that quality as well. We had the gazpacho and tomato soup, grouper entree special, and chicken brie entree. Good drink options, though I wish they had some liquor. Ok so I told myself I would never go back here again, but I get tired of going to Nola sometimes and everyone tells me to just give it another try so I did. I went here with some school mates on two occassions recently and both times the service was great! I didn't see any of the people that were there during my first awful visit, so maybe they up'd the staff and the chef. I got the tofu sandwich minus the mayo and it was pretty awesome. Their beers are always fresh on tap too. The owner and the UK looking girl are always there at night and they're very attentive and friendly. So I'll give this place 3 stars now and I'll def go back for a tofu sandwich and a blue moon. read more

i haven't been here in so long but went on a lunch date with my husband one day. there weren't a lot of people there at the time, but when we returned on a weekend evening there was an hour wait! it can be a popular place. i enjoyed the stir fry i ordered very much and they definitely know how to cook their tofu, which is a pet-peeve of mine when tofu is mushy or flavorless. lots of vegetarian options which made me ecstatic. the wait stiff were kind of hipsters but our waitress was very friendly and helpful. it also probably helped that we were the only ones there lol. can't wait to go back! read more

They had more vegetarian options than vegan ones (and quite a few meat options), but what we had was quite nice! We had the hummus plate to start, which was simple but good. Then for mains, I had the Hunan Bean Curd, which had lots of broccoli and peppers (I love when restaurants don't skimp on the veggies!) but was a bit spicier than I expected! My bf had the vegan version of the Crispy Sesame Chicken (i.e., with tofu), which was also good, but the sauce on the noodles was a bit salty. They are very good with tofu seasoning and sauces, they have a lot of flavor to them-- and the portions are very big! It's very conveniently located in downtown Frederick, so it's easy to pop in for a quick lunch while wondering around the shops. Next time we'll have to try the stir-fries that the other reviews are talking about! :) read more

The first time I ate at the Orchard it was because the restaurant that we chose to go to was not open. That restaurant soon closed for good. But now the Orchard is one of my favorite places to eat in the Frederick area. The food is amazing the soups are all made in house. My Nona would be jealous. Always have to have a salad with the tomato Tamara dressing because I'm addicted. The stir fry dishes are delicious. The sandwiches especially the grilled Brie and avocado are so uniquely yummy. My favorite of my favorite is the chicken with Brie served with rice and asparagus. The only problem at the Orchard is deciding what to order. Oh and one other problem saving room for desert. I always do especially the key lime brûlée. Their Staff is fantastic! I'm a server so I can recognize good Service. Today Amie went out of her way to help me with a special request. Given all the positive reviews, my husband and I were really disappointed in our lunch at The Orchard. The restaurant was really full when we went, which seemed like another positive sign. The menu items all sounded very good, and I was impressed with the number of vegetarian options, but the meal didn't live up to expectations. My husband ordered the Japanese stir fry with salmon and said it was pretty bland and I ordered a cup of tomato bisque soup and the avocado, tomato, and brie grilled sandwich. The soup was OK but not very tomato-y and the sandwich was ok, but all I tasted was dijon mustard (which I like, but it was a little overpowering). One of my favorite restaurants in Downtown Frederick. Great food and service. I will usually try the different daily entree and soup specials but things I've had off the menu are the grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, grilled avocado and Brie sandwich, and both the Polynesian and Thai stir fries. Menu is a little light on the beer/wine selections. One thing I love is that they don't have freezers - you'll only get whipped cream on a dessert, never ice cream - but this is a small price to pay for fresh, not nasty frozen food. read more

And I'm not sure who said something about the portions being small but I've never gotten a plate that was less than full, regardless of what was ordered. That being said I'm not a fan of the huge portions that America has gotten used to. But the sandwiches/salads are pretty darn big... There are a lot of veggie dishes available, but if you're carnivorous, don't let it scare you off. They know how to do meat too. Salads and sandwiches are really good, but best thing on the menu? Tempura. Of any kind. Veggies, shrimp, chicken. All delicious, especially with the ginger dipping sauce. Forewarning, this place does not have typical "coke/pepsi" beverage options but has pretty rockin Lemonade as well as some bottled sodas, tea, etc. read more

Was walking downtown and came across this place. Never heard of it so we figured we would give it a try. Let me tell you, boy am I glad we stumbled upon this place. We ordered the coconut shrimp and tempura zuccini and a house salad for apps. All were absolutely delicious. For the entrees, I got the brie, avocado sandwich which was super delicious. My gf order the southwest chicken sandwich. Everything was so good, this place deserves the 5 starts 100$ service was excellent as well.
