Hubby and I came in for dinner on Saturday night. This was the first time we've ever been to downtown Frederick for dinner. Parking was kind of a pain. We drove around for a good 20 minute looking for a spot, getting rejected from the closest parking garage--the "full" light clicked on right as we pressed the button for our ticket. We finally found another garage a couple blocks further and it only cost $1 to park which was a pleasant surprise. Neither of us eat red meat or pork and it was really satisfying to go into a restaurant and have the option of ordering anything on the menu. We sat in the front room and it is pretty small, but once we were seated I was comfortable and my worry about being seated next to the bar was completely negated. The staffers are mostly of the tattooed hipster variety, but they were all friendly and helpful. The Orchard has a pretty limited drink menu as well, but we each found libations which we enjoyed. I ordered a bowl of the tomato and basil bisque, which was awesome. The broccoli and potato soup was OK. Not as good as the bisque. I got the Jambalaya and I wasn't overly impressed with that either. I liked that it wasn't overly salty, but beyond that I found the flavors to be a little...bland. My husband got the Rockfish that was on special. He raved about it all night. We walked into this place on the whim, our thin pocket no longer in mind because we we're desperate for food, and immediately I loved the atmosphere. The music is soft but the lighting is bright and cheery, so covert thing gives you a nice, friendly feel. We ordered and didn't suffer more than probably 15 minutes for seven of us, which was awesome. We had sandwiches, a salad, entrees, and the special between us an it was all DELICIOUS. Their tomato sauce is bomb she'll good, and my friend loved her veggie salad to pieces. I was too full to eat desert but their lemon bars and coconut cream pie mean we will definitely stop by for another visit. Reasonable for our wallets, though entrees get expensive pretty fast. Worth it for all their vegan, gluten free, and organic food though. read more

Quite lovely and surprising! This place has good reviews so I had high hopes, despite the menu items ranging from zucchini parmesan to Japanese stir fry - I mean that's kind of a sacrilege in the foodie world. But it didn't disappoint! Our table got a variety of options, including both the entrees mentioned above and a texmex fried chicken thing. Everyone was really happy and said they would order their meals again! I also got gazpacho which was delightfully refreshing and flavorful! Finally got to try this spot after seating in my bookmark list for months. I've always been attracted to the Downtown Frederick vibe and although I'm all the way in MoCo it still feels I'm a distance away. We arrived at 8:30 and I was worried they would turn us away due to the proximity to closing time. It was pretty packed when we got in but the hostess said five minutes and he could get is a seat. AWESOME! I just got to say the customer service here was on point tonight...just wanted to clear that because customer service tends to be a deal breaker for me. The food was just as great...it was a lot to choose from a big variety. We started with the spicy-buffalo chicken tenders, I was skeptical at first because how can you mess up spicy chicken tenders!?! BUT these are no oridnary chicken tenders these were magical. Perfectly crispy, spicy and tangy but to top it off was a garlic ranch dip! for dinner I ended up getting the Indonisian Stir Fry with rice noodles, my hubs got the Polynosian Stir fry, and the bro in law got the portobello sandwich. We all enjoyed, the flavors blended well together. I def want to come back because I spotted a lot of other dishes. We couldnt resist dessert...i heard I had to get their cheesecake. Unfortunately due to the end of the day all the cheesecake was gone!! I'm not surprised since they make everything from scratch. That didnt stop us though we ordered the coconut cream pie and apple crumble. Neither disappointed and I completely forgot about the cheesecake! Cant wait to come back and try more here! read more

Four stars for very nice waitresses, good ambiance and delicious and very healthy soup/dessert! I ordered the Moroccan stew for the entree - it was a special that night, and I enjoyed it, but I wished the root vegetables were cooked more thoroughly, and it had more spice/flavor than it actually did. Nevertheless, it did hit the spot after a long day outside. I would suggest the stir-fry dishes for lighter meals, and the entrees for heavier dinners. Their menu is so diverse, yet extremely approachable, that it would be a good place for people who haven't eaten a lot of ethnic cuisine to sample some of the flavors of Indonesia or China in some of the stir-fry dishes. The pear crunch dessert was well sized, and had delicious cinnamon-spice flavor to it that complemented the Fall weather outside. We've been here on girls night out a couple of times (7 people), and had great meals & wonderful times. The atmosphere is pleasant, but not overwhelming. There is a small waiting room, where we've had to spend about 15 - 20 min wait both times. I don't make stir fry, so the choices are a little staggering, but also delish. Low salt is not a requirement for me, but the Tamari sauce on the Japanese stir fry was really too salty for my taste. The servers have always been really helpful, polite & efficient. Nice option for a Friday during lent. Kids' food came out 10 minutes before ours. Nice kids meal choices which include fruit and salad on the side. Indonesian stir fry with tofu/rice noodles was good, not great. Definitely fresh but too many peppers. Sauce was lacking some flavor. Curry stir fry with organic brown rice/tofu was tasty. My daughter loved her grilled cheese and the tomato dressing on the salad. Tomato bisque soup was good. Drinks are house made and the lemonade and iced tea were good. We waited for 10 minutes to be greeted by server once we were seated. We ordered immediately and didn't see her again until after we finished eating and asked for check. This was the first place to come up on my Yelp app that was two dollar signs or less and veg friendly when I was in Frederick. There were a lot of good-looking things on the menu - any of the stir fries can be vegetarian and there are numerous other options as well. I decided to get the Zucchini Parmigiana, mostly because I love zucchini and being allergic to eggplant and vegetarian makes the 'parmigiana' options usually inaccessible to me. It was delicious. The breading on the zucchini was flavorful and just the right thickness, and the zucchini itself was juicy and still crisp, which I like. The pasta sauce was incredibly creamy. The salad that came with it was yummy too, and the creamy garlic house-made dressing was nice - though a bit too sharp (clearly made with raw garlic, which is fine, it was just strong). Had a really nice light lunch here last weekend while we were visiting Frederick. We were eating lunch on the late side and this place was recommended to us but a salesperson in a local running shop. I was attracted to this place because of the many fresh produce options and the fact that they purchase from local businesses. The ambiance is simple and feels minimalistic, with a friendly weight staff. The waiters quickly sat us and took our orders, and even provided us with crowd-favorite recommendations. I ordered the vegetable tempura as a starter, and it was amazing. The breading was flakey and tasteful, without overpowering the intense flavors of the vegetables. Not to mention the dipping sauce that it came with was out of this world. I ordered the southwest chicken melt for my meal, which was a lot of food for a cheap price. The flavors complimented each other perfectly with the combination of cilantro, tomatoes, cheddar, and avocado. Even the beer was reasonably priced! My friend and I popped in to get a quick bite to eat and ended up having a leisurely lunch...A delightful contemporary, artsy, atmosphere, great food about $9 per dish. They have salads with choices of meat add in's (salmon, grilled chicken, tofu etc.) plus selections of Asian Noodle saute's, and omelets, home made soups and sandwiches . Since I saw they make a Greek Salad, and had a separate spinach salad, I asked if they could make a Greek Omelet. The kitchen said "No problem"! and put out this beautiful Greek Omelet with fresh spinach, Kalamata Olives and Feta Cheese. Yum! The whole wheat roll was awesome and I really enjoyed our server, "Navit" who is absolutely adorable, professional and has the cutest haircut!. I will definitely go back and ask for her as my server each time. The Orchard has a second dining room -also decorated nicely- in the back of the restaurant. Every meal I have hear makes me feel healthy and refreshed. The staff is very friendly and attentive. To some palates the food can be a little bland, and the prices may not seem like they match the portions offered. This doesn't really bother me as the low salt content and fresh ingredients are welcome in my usually not so healthy diet. Plus, there are quaint little salt shakers on the table! You gotta try the soup of the day, always delish. I go here on dates and lunches when I am in town and usually eat the fried tofu and hummus sandwich, yum! read more

I enjoy the Orchard for a number of different reasons. Mainly because the food taste like it was made in a small home kitchen. It taste so delicious, everything I've had there. It makes sense, since they focus on serving local and organic food. I don't feel stuffed when I leave like most eat out restaurant. Instead I feel quite satisfied. The service and staff are excellent here. The only thing I'd love to see would be red meat. They don't serve it. I bet it would be amazing. But I get their reasons. I didn't give them less stars for not serving what I wanted. No, I select the Orchard when I want good and whole food at a reasonable price and can do without red meat for a meal. read more

I celebrated my birthday here with my family and had a great time. My mom and I have allergies to gluten, dairy, and soy, so it can sometimes be difficult for us to find food that isn't a salad! The menu here is very accessible to gluten free and vegan diners. Our server Jeff had the patience of a saint while we ordered, helping us to find something that was safe for our allergies. I had the curry and split pea soup (fantastic) and the coconut swordfish special with a curry flavor, rice, and cauliflower. The menu has a wide variety of flavors, as my mom had the creole stir fry with shrimp, granny had an Italian penne dish and my aunt had the Polynesian stir fry. Once a month, I meet with two of my closest friends for dinner in Frederick, the midpoint for where we all live. We always choose a different restaurant and last night we happened to try the Orchard. What a wonderful experience! First, so many vegetarian options! I couldn't decide what to choose but ended up ordering the gazpacho and the Portabella melt. The gazpacho was fresh and delicious. The Portabella melt was out of this world! I could have ordered another it was so good! My friends were very impressed with their meals as well. I love this place. I'm gluten-free and dairy-free and I try to look for places with fairly healthy fare-- and I have lots of amazing options at the Orchard. Their menu goes all over the place, which at first was unnerving because in my experience restaurants who don't have a focus end up slacking in some area. However-- I'm delightfully blown away every time I eat here. They get it all right. Breakfast food, ethnic food, American food-- they do it ALL the right way. Highly recommend-- even for people who don't usually eat at "healthier" places. My only wish is that they have at least one GF and DF dessert.
