My coworkers have been raving about this place for weeks so I made a reservation for a Wednesday evening to give it a try. Located along a charming Sea Cliff street you can easily find street parking. The restaurant itself was very intimate, perfect for a date night or a small dinner with friends. Carmine was an awesome server, very attentive and energetic. I started with the pomegranate margarita mocktail and it was so good I got a second. My husband was very happy with his beer choice. As an appetizer we ordered the voodoo wings which were perfectly crisp and tasted amazing. We also ordered the chicken tika masala pizza, and oh my god it was incredible, a must try. Came on a Sunday afternoon and walked into their brunch menu. Heavily focused on American brunch classics like waffles, salmon toast, and omelettes. There were a couple of south Asian influenced items, but it wasn't the south Asian pizza experience that we were expecting. I had the salmon toast as an appetizer and the Udan paratha as the main. The latter item was scrambled eggs with lots of cheese inside of crispy paratha. The pairing was $35. Food came out quickly and service was accommodating. They had a small but good selection of craft beers. I had a pale ale from Garvies Point which was a great option. They had a bunch of nice seating outside. Was visiting my family and we all went there for dinner. It is situated on a local street in the lovely town of Sea Cliff and the ambiance is very inviting. We sat at a table that was inside but their patio doors were open so we had the advantage of bringing the outside in. It's amazing how they blend Italian and Indian cuisines. This was more of a 3.5 for me, but I rounded up for the unique factor. My friends brought me here for my birthday dinner. It was a snowy January day, but the restaurant didn't feel like they had the heat on. Anyway, onto the food. We ordered the fried cod app, a few pizzas, and the short rib main. I've never had Indian inspired pizza so it was definitely different! The dough was really fluffy and chewy which I loved, but the flavors were lacking a bit. Idk if everything just needed more seasoning (salt, sugar, something), but all the dishes tasted somewhat bland which is surprising for Indian flavors. We had the Restaurant Week menu and everything was perfection. The innovative burrata and ground lamb appetizers were incredible and the butter chicken and chicken curry dishes, both of which we have had before, were as great as ever. Portions were so large that we had to take some home. Desserts of rice pudding (an entirely different take on the dish) and molten chocolate cake were exceptional. Absolutely love The Onion Tree. It was our first time here and right when we walked in, I said to my wife "im going to like it here". The owners definitely put a lot of love and thought with the decoration. It feels as if you're in a town where music is alive, where everyone knows everyone, and the cuisine will be incredible. All this from just sitting down. We came for brunch and I got the Carrot Gazpacho (recommended by our server Carmine) and my taste buds were aroused. Sweet carrot tasting with a hint of coconut milk to balance the mild spicyness. Just wow. My entree was the smoked salmon Benedict. It was good but what made it incredible were the eggs used. I visited here back in the spring for a celebratory brunch after church and we genuinely had such a blast! We came for brunch and got the $36 2-course option and got the Kerala egg roast, dosa waffle, and egg chaat for mains, with the Bombay gumbo and waffle bites as starters. We enjoyed every bite so much, my only complaint (and this is my own fault) is that we had SO MANY EGGS for brunch lol! But I would definitely come here again for dinner and try some of their non-egg specialties because I can't believe how underrated and undiscovered this gem of a restaurant is!!!! I traveled all the way from Queens to Seacliff to eat at and try this restaurant. The trip was well worth it. This was probably the best meal I've had in the last two years, and I eat out a lot. The food was not only beautifully plated, but incredibly delicious. each dish was a burst of flavor and spices. They have put their unique spin on Indian food and done it great credit. I was so impressed with each course and found myself thinking about what I would try the next time I had a meal here. Our server was well, knowledged, well spoken and extremely personable. He gave his recommendations without being pushy. The restaurant is the next incarnation of a building that has been mini restaurants in the past. What a beautifully run establishment! Run do not walk here! Even with a smell from a construction issue to a point we could not dine inside they made an impression. I will be coming back here. - Staff was attentive we were offered a drink on the house. I had aperol on the rocks and it was amazing and refreshing my husband had an IPA beer. We were able to order food on the house due to their construction mishap. This is how you get customers coming back here and make an impression!!! This is where The Onion Tree comes in as it offers a refreshing taste to LI restaurant goers looking for quality Indian dishes with a twist. They have a special menu highlighting neapolitan style pizzas topped with classic Indian favorites such as Saag Paneer, Masala, and Chicken Tikka Masala. They also serve unique appetizers such as Dosa Waffles, Watermelon Salad, and Gol Gappa. My party tried many of their items including the Saag Paneer, Masala, and Margherita pizzas, Salmon, Lamb, and Chapata Fries. Since I am vegetarian I will not speak on the meat dishes, though my friends said they were both spectacular and "the best they have had so far." The pizzas were all well done and brought out strong flavors of both Indian and Italian cuisine. The saag paneer one was my favorite and the masala one could have been a bit better in my opinion. It lacked a bold taste of authentic masala and the toppings kept falling of the dough. The chapata fries were actually spicy but were seasoned enough to make us keep wanting more. As per the desserts, I will not say anything besides that they are A MUST TRY. The dessert menu is not shown online but trust me, you will be wanting to try every item off their menu in person. Service was spectacular! Our server, Kyle, was attentive and professional. He explained all of the best dishes on the menu and gave us recommendations that were actually good. Kyle was able to maintain a conversation and popped in some jokes here and there. I liked his energy and vibe the entire time. There was a lively ambiance inside and outside. We chose the outdoor seating but I will admit that it was a little crammed and there were bugs that we had to swat away from our food. My wife and I visited The Onion Tree in Sea Cliff last night to celebrate her birthday. The space is small but really nice, and we loved the overall feel of eating there. It felt modern, yet traditional and comfortable. We sat next to the pizza oven and were able to see someone churn out pizzas nonstop. The service was also fantastic. Every employee who helped and spoke to us was so kind and treated every interaction with urgency and purpose. The food, of course, was excellent. We got the saag paneer pizza and the chicken tikka masala pizza as well. Both were very delicious! I think they were just a tad oily. We also ordered the lamb kabobs for our son, and he loved them! Our favorite were the voodoo wings. Arguably the best chicken wings I've ever had. They had so much flavor and just enough heat for you to notice. We went to try their unique pizzas with an Indian flavor twist. Tried the fungi and masala margherita. The establishment is upscale and good for both casual and intimate meals. The pizzas are Neapolitan style. The fungi pizza had a good amount of mushrooms and the sauce went very well with the mushrooms. This place is so good! In a span of about 2 weeks, we ate here in person and got take out. While at a friend's house, we wanted to get The Onion Tree delivered, but it wasn't possible so we ended up picking it up. Even picked up, the pizzas were phenomenal. We got pizzas and dosa waffles and my kids really enjoyed the waffles. We went to eat there on a Tuesday, not realizing it was Taco Tuesday. We ordered chips with frijoles and then the same pizzas we had delivered the first time - masala margherita, margherita, eggplant, and saag paneer. All 4 of the pizzas were great, and our families and friends all enjoyed them. In person, our server was great, but also really busy. It seemed like they needed more people and more help on the night we went because it was hard to get our server's attention. Inside, it was also a little dark which made it hard to see things - mostly a problem for my mother. Honestly, we really enjoyed it and the food was super creative and tasted amazing. Now this is my kind of girls night I've never heard of Indian/Italian Fusion but The Onion Tree has done it seamlessly. Their brick oven pizzas paired with traditional Indian flavors were to die for and so well executed that I deff went back for a second slice. This restaurant is sophisticated enough to have amazing food and well crafted cocktails but down to earth enough to become your favorite local gem. I especially loved the outdoor patio, perfect for those summer months where being indoors may feel stifling. Their Indian dishes were definitely some of the best I ever had, from classics like Butter Chicken and their Kerala Chicken Fry to their amazing salmon and lamb shank.. everything you could ask for was present in every bite. Intimate and cozy little gem. Kyle served up amazing drinks, food and great conversation at the bar. The burrata chaat was bursting with savory and sweet flavors of pomegranate and cilantro, mellowed out by the creamy burrata. The masala margarita pizza was a toasty puffy crust with a thin center topped with spicy tomato and creamy cheese. I've been to The Onion Tree at least 6 times and every time I thoroughly enjoyed the experience: the drinks are great, the Indian food is fantastic and the pizza is top tier (although Dave Portnoy would disagree). Previously I had La Mortaza which is basically a Bologna inspired Mortadella sandwich (with pesto and ricotta) served on a 3 day fermented dough folded over and cut in half. Since I had that, I was excited to try the real thing, in Bologna Italy. When finally in Bologna Italy, Maybe I didn't pick the right spot, but I wasn't blown away at all, way too much bread, not enough mortadella cheese and pesto. I came back to the Onion Tree to double check my taste buds, and well i can confirm this thing is way better than a busy shop in Italy with good reviews. The bread/meat/cheese/pesto combination is magical. This is the Bologna sandwich that made Bologna sandwiches in Bologna look bad. The Tikka Masala pizza is awesome if you like spicy, butter chicken, chicken thighs are all good choices. Try anything, I've never been disappointed here read more

Saturday night. No reservation. I just walked in the door at 730. And bam they were so amazingly nice. There was no room. No tables. But they made room at the bar. The bartender asked our name. She was attentive and worked hard managing the room and the 8 other people sitting there eating and drinking. When you find a place that the service is as good as the food you come back. So I have a reservation for tomorrow for pizza and Tuesday for tacos. So first time here and I didn't know what to order besides everything. The butter chicken looks good and the lamb balls as well. But it was hard to make up my mind. The bartender called over danny who spent all the time I needed to go over the entire menu with me. Every dish was perfect. He explained the healthier twist, the spices, and the chefs education around the world. The service was excellent the food was too. I can't recommend this place anymore. The food here is terribly unauthentic and just does not taste good. Barely any seasoning or spices were used in the curries. The pizza was ok but nothing great. The pani puri had no "pani" which translates to "water" It was completely dry and has such bad flavor. The pomegranate on the pani puri wasted like rubbing alcohol. The worst part of the dining experience was how we brought our own cake for a birthday and they charged us $3 per person at the table to eat the cake we had already bought. That was absolutely beyond ridiculous especially since not everyone even ate the cake. An extra $24 for a cake we already paid for was crazy. My friend recommended this place to me for their chicken tikka masala pizza so I decided to give it a try on Wednesday night. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. I had received a $10 off promo code in the mail for DoorDash the day before and was able to use it towards this order. The pizza came out to $15 after tax and discount, which was worth getting. If not, it would've been $25. My order was ready at the time promised (45 minutes later) and all the staff including the owners (Jay & Raquel) were really friendly. When I saw the pizza box, I was shocked by how small it was. I was expecting a bigger pie for $25 but it was a personal pie with 4 small slices. I noticed the crust was burnt and the pizza was floppy because of all the chicken & sauce on top. The chicken tikka masala was very tasty (& spicy) indeed but I didn't like the naan bread type/ napoletana style pizza. Overall, this place seems interesting even though their pizza isn't my cup of tea and if you like "new style" Indian food or Jay's Balls (appetizer), it's worth giving a try. read more

just WOW! I cannot say enough about this place and am excited to come back and bring friends. Came here last night for the first time with my family for my sisters birthday and we were just blown away. The inside is very homey and warm, it just feels cozy. the bar area was fun and there's an open view of the pizza chef and oven and you can watch as they prepare your za! Even the bathroom was cool, and that's always a plus for me, no one likes a nasty dingy bathroom. The food was phenomenal, it was like an interesting mix between indian, italian and american? They had pizza's on the menu that varied from traditional margarita to chicken tikka (insane!!) We let our server help us out a bit and give us some recommendations. His name was Carmine and he was just awesome. He gave us great recs, each one that we ordered we adored. He was attentive and patient since it took us forever to figure out our drinks of choice, he was funny and just very very nice. My favorite item was the chicken entree, the flavor was absolutely gorgeous with the crunch of the cashews and the sweet pop of the raisins...yum! My wife and I went for dinner for the first time with another couple who are local and regulars. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. There is one large TV screen behind the bar. The room is smallish but a large mirror along one wall cleverly gives the feeling of a larger room. The music was mostly 70's classic rock but wasn't loud enough to interfere with conversation. The drink offerings were creative and reasonably priced. While waiting for our table, one of the staff even took our drink order and walked it to the bartender for us. The food was exceptional. I especially enjoyed the Mortaza Napoletana and the Tikka Masala pizza which we shared as appetizers. The Indian offerings were very good as well. Our servers Carmine and Kyle were extremely attentive and explained everything well. We had a great time. Highly recommended ! An aside: Out of curiosity I browsed the one-star ratings by other reviewers and noticed that some of them complained that the Indian food is not "authentic". As this is advertised as a modern take on Indian food, it means the chef takes a traditional dish and updates it according to his/her interpretation. By definition that makes it different from traditional. There's nothing unauthentic about it at all. To give a one-star review based on the food not being "authentic" is illogical to me. From the best pizzas on Long Island , voted by NEWSDAY to burgers or Indian dishes and more, this is the place to go, the owners Racquel and Jay put so much love in every dish that you could taste it with every bite you take. Yesterday was our first time heading to this area for dinner, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that Sea Cliff Avenue had been blocked off for outdoor dining, with fairy lights strung up all around the tables. It made for such a charming scene, and the patio heaters made the atmosphere cozy despite the chilly evening breeze. They had the Early Fall Prix Fixe Menu last night, and we decided to get the voodoo spiced chicken wings and three-spiced scallops for appetizers, lamb top sirloin and Asian style beef short ribs for mains, and chocolate cake and carrot cake for dessert. The short rib dish was the definite winner of the night because it was so amazingly flavorful and fork-tender! The chicken wings were also very flavorful, and the cakes were moist and satisfying without being overwhelmingly sweet. The scallops and lamb we unfortunately didn't enjoy as much - but overall, the meal was still wonderful! We were so happy we went and so pleased by the warm, friendly service we received!
