After bringing our food, we seriously never had anyone come back to check on us until they were back to collect plates of those who were done. Meantime I had what should have been a fabulous meal but as soon as I moved the onions and mushrooms around the steak, it was obvious they were perfectly placed to cover a large portion (I'm talking a 2-3") area of fat and gristle. There is no possible way the chef or kitchen staff who plated it, didn't see it! So because no one essentially came back to check on us, I had eaten the small amount that was edible and was waiting for anyone to check with us. So, when she did come she actually asked if I wanted a to-go container! I responded and she looked at it and get this, asked if she could get me a dessert, on the house. An $8 dessert on place of a $45 steak... Haven't been back since.

My family has been coming here for years! Le Château in La Crosse is owned by a lovely married couple from France. She had to go get another host to come point our name out. After finally being seated. Our waitress took our order right away. We were the only diners and came along 2 other tables. Le Cave was quite busy so it took a while for us to get our two drinks. We finally got our food after a little over an hour. My husband got the lamb wellington but they didn't have lamb and offered beef instead. The sauce was overly salted. So i couldn't try more than the tiny bite i took. I got The lobster risotto. It had mixed reviews but i thought i would try it and have my own judgement. It was also the waitresses favorite. I will say, the herbs in the risotto was over powering and the lobster which was supposed to be poached tasted grilled and was over cooked. Like many other reviews, i couldn't cut it with my butter knife. Perhaps a steak knife would've helped. But it still doesn't help the fact that it was over cooked. The side of butter was unnecessary as everything was too flavorful. And the edamames were just a tad bit too much. Escargot was over cooked. The herb butter was flavorless. We were very disappointed as this was what we were looking forward to the most. Fois gre was ok. $200 dinner and we were not impressed. But it was worth a try.

We were lucky to get a table with an amazing view of the golf course and surrounding hills. I bet this place is beautiful when the leaves are changing. They also have live music which adds a little romance. First off, I love their bread service and the fact that a server comes to you with the three bread choices. We tried all there and I think my favorite was the garlic ciabatta. We started our meal with a bowl of the clam chowder, which was nice and creamy. For my entree, I ordered the sole that was wrapped in pancetta and had a crab stuffing. This was definitely a filling dish and a little on the heavy side, but still delicious. It came with a salad to start. I would definitely recommend their homemade maple vinaigrette, it was fantastic! My husband had the lamb chops, which seemed like a smaller portion than the fish. For dessert, we had the molten chocolate cake. It was pretty good, but I thought the chocolate was a bit bland. I prefer a rich, dark chocolate. I also didn't particular care for the strawberry ice cream. It was more icy than creamy and not nearly as good as the peach and currant sorbet they served before the main course to cleanse the pallet. Overall, a great meal and even better atmosphere!
