One clerk motioned a group over for passport help. The customer recognized him from the 2nd floor passport office and asked if it was slow up there, so they brought him down. No, no, he answered, someone didn't show up for the windows so he came down to help. As he was telling her this, and managing her docs, he put a pile of mail down for the next person in line to grab and go. Then another postal worker arrived to open, but as she did, she motioned to the man in front of me, about 3 from the front, and set a pile of mail down. He went and picked it up and left. Seems these workers KNOW their regulars and multitask to give them their accumulated mail to keep the line moving - BRILLIANT! My overall wait time + service time was about 10 mins then I was out the door. I was able to compare the price for my friend's domestic delivery to PA vs the cost of sending it to her home in France. $43 compared to $113 - domestically for the win! I appreciate the efficiency of this office and that they recognize their regulars. If I ever need to do this type of forwarding items for a friend again, I will definitely return to this branch. As for the other two postal clerks working the same shift (whose names I wish I'd noted--one may have been "Clerk 29"), they get **ZERO** stars. They were rude and snapped at me when I explained that the USPS online system indicated that postal staff would print the required form at the post office if I couldn't print it myself (not sure why a printout is required anyway given that my information was in the USPS online system, but that's a rant for another time). They also snapped at me because one of the documents I was presenting was not acceptable. The overall interaction felt hostile, like they were looking for a fight rather than helping a customer. I have empathy for employees who are tired and ready to clock out. But when this kind of behavior happens, it creates an unsafe environment for everyone. After working several government-level jobs, I also know that many employees stay in roles they don't enjoy because it's hard to leave (limited alternatives), and/or because union protections can make it difficult to hold people accountable--even when performance is not at the level it should be. This was not a regular prepaid Click-N-Ship label. It was a merchant-issued USPS Priority Mail Return label. I immediately took it to a different post office and they accepted the return with no questions and issues. I don't understand why the clerk refused to even scan it. Boo. Do better.

To be fair, I know a lot of this is a systemic thing with post offices. They deal with a lot of people and a lot of difficult situations all day. I came in to mail a package and when they quoted me the price it was around ninety dollars. At that point I decided not to ship it and just carried it with me on the plane instead.
