Went here for the first time with friends on a Wednesday night for dinner. The food was BANGIN! The chicken tenders, fish tacos, and salmon were all great. Same with mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. The bar tender slipped over me when ordering my refill of drinks purposely and then told another bartender and first I was with to make sure that I tip more money then I was. This place is one of the best bars in Buffalo. On a regular day they are open they have some of the best food. The staff is friendly amd you get a homely feeling being there. On Sundays they BRUNCH! For $20 they have all you can eat eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, chicken, fried fish, waffles, and other tasty items. They also have mimosas for $20 where you can get a bottle of champagne and you choice of drink. Enjoy yourself with some good food and good company with the Bills game on everything TV. If you decide to go during week, make sure you check out their specials. Once a week they come out with something that may not usually be on the menu. Those are always the best to try. This place was originally called the Weepingg Willoww Room, but the Weeping Willow outside the restaurant was found out to be an Oak tree, so they changed the name. I'm not sure why they added the extra K, but as long as they don't add one more "K", I don't think there will be any issues. I'm a soul (food) man... I'm a soul (food) man... but not so much in Buffalo. This place is not too bad, but I've only ever been there really late when they were sold out of all their main dishes so I have to go back some time and give it an honest try. Rick James should own this place, because it's Soul Food in his hometown of Buffalo, and Rick James released the soul classic "Superfreak", later covered by Celine Dion and Kelly Clarkson. Actually I need to go here again and try it again because I've had a lot of soul food experience since reviewing this place so my opinion may have changed. I know that McKenzie's in the Broadway Market is amazing, whereas Gigi's is good but not as amazing, and more of a Jamaican influence. I need to go back to this one and see how it compares. But what I do remember is that the Collard Greens were good, the sides were cheap, and everything I had from there tasted good. read more

We ordered from a simple island-style menu that featured comfort food jazzed with exotic spices. My beautiful (and also exotic) dining partner and I ordered curry seasoned haddock (her) and jerk chicken (me) which were accompanied by curry rice, seasonal veggies and their famous cornbread. We led off with a Grilled Shrimp Cocktail seasoned with lemon pepper which was excellent. We followed with crabcakes which weren't stingy on the crab and were served with toasted cornbread slices and house made dressing. This cozy yet trendy bar/lounge serves up some of the most creative drink menus I've seen in Buffalo and is going to become a hotspot w/ $4 martini Wednesdays. Furthermore, their BBQ is up there w/ the best I've had in Buffalo. The Honey-Glazed Chicken melted right off the bone and the sauce is good for someone that prefers sweeter BBQ rather than tangy. We came here with a living social deal. They have an extensive specialty drink menu with fun names. The purple haze is really good. They have a martini list with 50 recipes with awesome names like My Hispanic Boo. The food came fairly quickly and they brought us extra napkins without us having to ask. If you are vegetarian this is not the place for you. The entrees all have chicken, fish or shrimp. You will be stuck with just salad. But it is a delicious salad of mixed green lettuce, tomato, onions, served with pita bread. The cornbread is really light & fluffy. The crabcakes are divine. The decor could use a little help. The floor tiles look old and the carousel ponies have chipped paint. But it has an old pub feel. They have banquet services, too. Overall good food, good service, good times! read more

I've eaten here quite a few times. The renovations are great because the food is 10x better!! Some of the cooks and servers from GiGis are operating during the day. And before they arrived the food was very tasty. My personal experience overall has been a good one. However, three of my co workers got food poisoning due to the food being spoiled. One in particular got fish and grits and it literally smelled like garbage. The average cost per plate is over $10 as the charge for pretty much anything considered "extra" like 50 cents for takeout. The point is go at your own risk or do as I do and get the breakfast sandwich. read more

One of the best bars/Restaurants in Buffalo. Great food, atmosphere, martini's and even a great location to watch sports games and for music at night as well. They dont get enough credit but they run an amazing business. They hosted a work party for me and absolutely knocked it out of the park. It was a large party and was tough to accommodate however they did it easily offering a great spread of food which left everyone happy and full. By the end, no one wanted leave. Went here for a Groupon on 9/12. Nice looking place. Good old school R&B playing. Bartender was very friendly and helpful. Fish fry (southern style) was light and tasty. Good fries but coleslaw a little dry. No craft beer to choose from until they found a sample bottle of IPA a vendor had given them which my husband thought was good. No scotch at all and only crap Gallo wine for reds. Main complaint is that when you order a fried chicken entree you expect chicken pieces. A leg, a breast, a thigh. It was just chicken wings. That is not stated on the menu that its not chicken pieces as most people would expect when they hear "fried chicken". Kinda ticked me off. Pros: Really close proximity to Metro Rail Utica Station, which was appreciated on a cold, January night in Buffalo. Cons: Overpriced diner food. Ordered the crab cake for $10 (YUM!), the shrimp salad for $12 (forgot to specify which option and was served the spiciest - beware!), and the Oakk Room Platter for $15 (which was quite obviously frozen fare heated). The platter consisted of 3 small chicken wing pieces, 3 mediocre chicken tenders, 3 mozz sticks, and a small handful of fried calamari. Aside from the salad, all food was served in plastic baskets which made the portions look very small, and drinks were served in clear 10-12oz plastic cups. The space itself was really nice. Warm, dark wood and a small fire in the fireplace made it feel cozy and warm, I just wished the food compared to the atmosphere. Probably will not return and would not recommend. read more

The Oakk room used to be our go-to place after a hard day at Roswell Park fighting cancer one smoker at a time. What we loved was the inclusive atmospher, great service, good drinks, awesome food and a well-poured drink. While the food is good, the menu is limited and has not changed in a couple of years. The friendly service has also deteriorated. Tonight,we deided tostop by after work. There were more employees than patrons, and thy were huddled at the end of the bar, socializing and eating. I only had one drink - a slammer - which was excellent. The first round they overcharged us by 25%. We got it straightened out and asked that we run a tab. My husband had to repeatedly stand up & ask ... "Is there anyone working here?" while the staff looked away until he could get a drink. We went to cash out, andy yet again, they overcharged us by 20%. This is too bad. We really like the owner and enjoyed stopping here after work. read more

I recently found out that they serve breakfast Wednesday to Sunday. Boy oh boy! I had the catfish. Something real Big is going on in that kitchen because the breakfast completely blew me away.
