Soul food has arrived to North Buffalo in a big way! Get the word out because I need them to stay!…read moreRestaurant is in the heart of North Buffalo, located on Hertel about two blocks from Parkside. Cute vibe inside. They do have a bar setup, but didn't appear it's used for alcohol. I was greeted as soon as I opened the door and was walking through. Being my first time, I did order a few didn't dishes, sides and desserts to try. There was NOT a bad dish. All the food was amazing. Great portions, tasty flavors and everything truly was cooked to perfection. I have given up talking about prices because let's be honest where can you go for cheap anymore. BUT I have to mention I got the Kinsley street fried chicken dinner, it comes with four prices chicken (half chicken, breast, leg, wing, and thigh) and two sides for 22.99, I felt this was actually a great price point and so worth it. Our next dish was the JP fish sandwhich and fries, again, the sandwhich was huge, the fish was seasoned and cooked to perfection! Fries were yummy. Next up was the TPs hot honey chicken sandwhich. Now I am over the hot honey chicken sandwhich as it's been done to death, but I still always feel the need to try eveyones hahaha, and glad I did another grand slam sandwhich! For the sides, I tried the Mac and cheese, pinto beans, collard greens and coleslaw. If you follow my reviews I am a Mac and cheese snob, don't think I order many that I liked, well thank you Heavens because the Mac and cheese was DELICIOUS!!! The Coleslaw was also top notch. I don't eat collard greens or pinto beans but my family told me they were good. They did not have desserts on the menu but I seen some on the counter, sooooo I order a slice of caramel cake, slice of sour cream cake and peach cobbler. Fat kid heaven they all were so good. Literally the best caramel cake since my mother in law! I felt like I just ate at my husband's family reunion. I had to go in and order, then I left ran to dash and came back in about 25 mins and my food was ready when I got back. So service was pretty fast. My only thing wish you could order on line first, parking is not the best in that area. Also Google has address as 1641 Hertel but it actually is 1633, not a big deal because same area but just a heads up.

This tends to be a challenge on Saturdays but Heaven's Countertop, one of Buffalo's newest soul food restaurant was up for challenge. Now when I say new, I mean new as only been open for just a month today. They took over the space occupied by the soul food restaurant Je ne se qui after the owners retired. They offer both breakfast 4 days as week followed by dinner after they take a short break. But on Sundays they offer a brunch buffet for $ 30 from 1-3 followed by dinner from 3-6. As stated previously I came in on Saturday for breakfast. We got their a lil before 12 which is right before they take a break for dinner but they still accommodated us. We had 6 adults and 2 toddlers. Our waitress was the owners mom who was nice but little bit forgetful. Since we came closer to the end of breakfast they were out of some items. I got the smash up $24 for pancakes, haddock tid bits, fried chicken, eggs, grits and potatoes. Even though there was no grits or potatoes this was still a hefty meal. Everything seasoned perfectly!! They did mix up a few meals. The owner came out introduced herself and apologized for the inconvenience as well as took 10% off our meal. Which was a nice gesture. I'll definitely be back for Sunday brunch and I have to try their dinner as well because I heard their smothered pork chops are amazing. Also, their bathroom is spacious enough to change a diaper comfortably and is wheelchair accessible. It also is stocked with feminine products !! One draw back is no alcohol...so no brunch mimosas So if you are looking to try a new soul food restaurant please check them out!! Keep in mind they are new and still working kinks out.

We were immediately made to feel welcome the second we entered the establishment! Greeted like we were old friends! The ambiance was classy, warm, well-laid out and the decor designed beautifully with a friendly flavor while the great sound system played quality music! We settled in at a table near the front window. The menu was very professionally produced with wonderful "food porn" of the restaurant's fare that made our mouths water! Our terrific waiter/host, Jay, was easy-going, affable, and served us beautifully! When we received our food, the soulful bouquet wafted to our nostrils from our piping-hot dishes, convincing us that we were about to embark on a gastronomic journey of pure delight!!! I had the Barbecue Ribs, Mac & Cheese, Cabbage, Yams, & Cornbread, fit for any Potentate!!! My Girlfriend had the Grilled Chicken Salad fit for a Queen!!! The portions were lavish which made for gleeful take home left-overs! Every item was heaven on the taste buds that demonstrated the experience, heritage, and skill of the owner, Kim...OUTSTANDING!!! Major comps and respect to Kim and her whole staff, the outstanding force behind this masterwork of a restaurant!!! They deserves all the accolades for the vision, dedication, hard work, cooking skills, and love put in to make Phat Catz a Buffalo Treasure!!! Marvin J.

I got the haddock dinner and it honestly missed the mark. The fish was salty but still lacked flavor and tasted like it was cooked in old grease. Almost as if they gave me fish that was cooked hours ago. The sides weren't much better. The greens were bland, the potato salad had decent flavor but the potatoes were undercooked and hard. The cornbread was burnt and crunchy. The mac and cheese tasted like straight Velveeta, nothing special. Portion size was really nice though! Overall, this one was a bit disappointing. Hoping it was an off day, because I really wanted to like it.

The side of yams was alittle off, I can't put my finger on it. The seasoning and flavor was good but I think the texture was off for me. I think I like a bit more bite to my yams. The Mac and cheese was great on both plates! Our service could have been better but our server seemed overwhelmed so I understand. She was still very nice. The restaurant itself sometimes is nicely put together.

The restaurant is downtown, and we parked right in front. Found it strange that we could only order to go and there wasn't a dine in option on a Saturday. We still ordered and ate in the car. We had fried haddock, sweet potatoes, and collard greens, along with a slice of Hennessey pound cake. The food was hot. Had good flavor but wasn't a fan of the breading on the fish and the cake was very dense. The gentleman that took our order was very nice and the chef was also friendly. All in all the food was OK. The Ambiance wasn't there.
