The men's selection of fall jackets (right on season) was smaller than expected. However, the woman at the register was wonderful. I recently put the buy online, and pick up in store option to the test at this North Face location. I had my eye on a women's arctic parka in off white and did not want to go through the hassle of mailing the return back in the event it did not work. I arrived at the store with my confirmation email on my phone and the requested photo identification. I did wait for a couple of minutes in the regular checkout line before being brought to a counter at the back of the store where my order was located. The clerk did the unboxing (really, opening the plastic bag) which is probably my least favorite part of online ordering--don't ask me why. Although the store was bustling on a Sunday afternoon, I was able to try on the coat in a fitting room. It was nice to be able to get fit advice from a professional at the store, and to look at the item in other colors, even though I ultimately went with my first choice. The entire process was speedy and certainly more fun than tangling with boxes and packing materials. read more

I needed a raincoat that was breathable and able to accomodate layers underneath for the fall/winter. Upon entering the store-I was overwhelmed with the selection and variety of coats. The sales staff was incredibly helpful, patient, and was knowledgeable regarding their explanations pertaining to the different types of raincoats and their traits. The store is incredibly expensive-and while I do like my coat; it appears that the zippers are rather thin and of poor quality in the sense that at least on my coat they are constantly getting stuck and I often need two hands to secure closure for the pockets which is a hassle when you are in a hurry...I mean it is after all outdoor "sportwear." read more

A beautiful 2 story store on Michigan ave. The women's department is on floor 1 while mens and kids is all on floor 2. When I need hiking clothes or other gear this is the first store and brand I go to. The staff at this particular location are always super helpful and 9 out of 10 times answer any questions I have. Everything is easy to find and plenty of space to look at everything. They also provide WiFi that always works great. I highly recommend coming here for any outdoor needs. read more

The staff here is friendly and helpful. This is a two-story store located on the Mag Mile in the John Hancock building that has a large selection of products. In addition to clothing, you can find ski wear, hiking gear, backpacks, and camping gear. If you are dedicated to buying a North Face product, this location has so much more to offer than going to a department store that just carries some North Face products. Great selection of snow outfits for men, women and children. The selection are mostly functional may not be the most fashion forward snow outfits but you know you'll survive that mt everest adventure. They also have snow activity equipment, such as skis, boards and snow shoes. Did you know they have running gear?!?!? And a pretty good selection of running apparel and accessories too, including running shoes! But I think the shoes are more for running on snow rather than street. It's not that cheap. But it's about the same price as Nike so for winter stuff, I would prefer to come here. Service is pretty good too. They are helpful without hovering. I love the style and have always been a north face fan for my jackets and shirts but what is with the sizing lately?! Half of north face jackets and shirts I'm medium and half I'm large?? I used to only fit into medium with north face but it now seems their medium has gotten smaller with many items. I've been ordering both medium and large and sending back what doesn't fit. read more

My experience here was about average. The store layout is really awesome. The only thing is that there was a strange odor throughout the store that was kind of irritating. The store was out of stock of a lot of sizes and colors, so I didn't end up purchasing anything. Staff members were okay, but I definitely wasn't impressed with customer service. This is just to inform people about returning items online when shopping online at North Face. If you buy anything online with Apple Pay or PayPal you only can return online but it gets worse. They give you a free return shipping label with "smart tracking" but they don't tell you that, whatever you're returning takes 3 TO 4 WEEKS & THEN THEY REFUND YOUR MONEY! Yet it only takes 3-5 business days to ship what I've paid for. Kinda backwards to me so therefore I'll never buy a North Face product again. The worse return policy I've ever heard of. read more

My family has owned multiple North Face jackets and I currently wear a North Face windbreaker an winter jacket. Both of my jackets are great in both form and function! What really sets North Face apart for me is the excellent customer service. The zipper broke on my windbreaker and I was able to drop it off at a North Face store near my house where they said they would fix it, or replace it. True to their word they fixed it and it's as good as new. They did tell me the wait time to fix it would be a while, but I was fine with that and they sent it to my home, which was very nice. I have in the past owned Columbia and Arc'teryx jackets and their products are very good as well, but the North Face customer service is far better. Columbia and Arc'teryx require you to pay for shipping on warranty returns (no store drop offs) which can cost $25 or more and in the case of Columbia, they returned the product to me without fixing it, saying the item could not be repaired, but really they just chose not to repair it. I believe the North Face jackets my family have owned have been of the highest quality and their service is the best in the business. I generally will only buy from North Face! read more

Located at 875 N Michigan Ave building with two entrances, one on Michigan Ave and the other on the inside of the building at the Delaware entrance. The store has 2 floors with a lot of coats and jackets. The clothing is expensive but worth it. I recently came in to purchase a hat but ended up with a yeti as well. Stopped in for some Christmas gifts. During the holiday season they close at 10pm which is great. We were greeted immediately upon arrival. We asked for specific items we were looking for. The sales associate helped up and was very polite. He explained all the features of the items we were buying which was great to learn new things. Do not treat customers like you will never see them again** I walked in prepared to purchase a nearly $300 winter jacket. I did a few laps around the store looking for different styles/sizes/colors. I looked for help and witnessed an employee spot me and pick up the phone with his back turned to me. I turned and saw one employee say to another "I'm shopping for myself today!" at which point the 2 employees began trying things on in the mirror. I kept saying to my boyfriend that I needed help with size, I wonder if they have this..etc. NOTHING. A man walked up and one of the girls peels away from her conversation to help him. I allowed her to finish at which point I approached her and said, "Just so you know, I was prepared to buy THAT coat right there ($279 plus tax) but since you wandered all around me for 15 minutes without speaking to me and then helped that man...I won't be buying one here." and walked out. I.don't.get.the.attraction.to.their.clothes. Sure, I've spotted the occasional person in other cities with that trademark on their back right shoulder but didn't think much. I then moved to Chicago and I guess when I crossed the city border, I forgot to get in line to get the free black North Face fleece. I saw the prices at Sports Authority once and was shocked. It's three times, nay, four times the cost of an Old Navy fleece. What is the deal? As my friend Kate who wears the trademarked black fleece as a winter coat (I don't understand) tells me, it's soooo warm. So, okay, I'm going to try this out. You see, I lost a ton of weight after living in Texas for a few years. I've never been so cold in my life. When it was 40 degrees out this past weekend, I had my heavy coat on, a gator neck, hat and gloves and was still freezing. I walked into the North Face store on Michigan and headed to the women's section. Let's find Lisa a new coat or a fleece to put under her coat. The $80 fleece felt just as warm as an Old Navy one. It didn't feel near enough to be winter coat warm. I looked at all the tags on the coats and was looking for something that said what weather is was really meant for. No dice. My hubby found a young worker to help. The coat I had picked out thinking would be the end all coat for this Chicago winter was classified as a "winter jacket" and would not work for anything really cold. He showed me the real winter coat and I just wasn't impressed. The young man really tried to help me, but this North Face thing is just not for me. Very unhappy with the north face Sent boots to b fixed early November, told it would b no more than 4 weeks, here we are 8 weeks later in 10inches of snow. No winter boots. Spent $200on the boots less than a year ago and had to have them sent away already. I will b shopping at Merrell or Marot from now on. The lack of empathy from the customer service is heart breaking. There were a few jackets that looks and feel the same and was not too sure what the differences were, I asked a few employees there and none of them could tell me, one of them even had the spec book out and he could not tell me the difference. Basically, had asked almost everyone there and all of them could not tell me anything about the products they were selling, on top of that they had an attitude. This one star is due to the lack of product knowledge their staff has, in particular, NAOMI. I called in to ask if they have a couple of particular backpacks in-store. The first call cut off before I received a confirmation. The second call was handled by Naomi, to which she says they don't have, unfortunately. That's okay. So do you guys carry Haystack (backpack)? This is what she says: I'm sorry what? (Haystack) We don't even carry that. (What do you mean, you guys don't carry it in the store?) You said that's a North Face product? (Yes. Side-convo: No duh, I'm calling North Face, aren't I?) Because I don't think Northface has that. (Okay? That's fine, Naomi, thanks for your help. Buhbye.) As a NorthFace employee you should study your company's products-- or am I just too high-end for this place, being spoiled by associates who actually know their brand? If I were dumb enough to accept Naomi's skeptic tone as to whether NorthFace carries such a backpack called, 'Haystack,' that would be 1 customer that was deprived of the purchase. Especially in this uncooperating climate with cold and rain. At least I can vouch that their vests, at $125 are amazing and worm and not too bulky. It's TNF. Enough said. I prefer the layout of a few years ago but nonetheless it's still a rad store. Has a modern feel to it and is centrally located on Michigan close to the Chicago red line stop. The Hancock center in which it resides is set back from the street a few hundred feet and lends itself to a less crowded city feel. They always have sales here on everything. I purchased quiet a few things from them and have always had a wonderful experience: terra 65 bag, surge bag, Gotham jacket, thunder jacket, beanies, gloves, and some other stuff. They offer a lifetime warranty on their products and it truly is one of the best on the market. You kinda have to know what you're looking for if you want to purchase as it can be overwhelming if you stop in on a whim and decided you're ready to buy. Staff is friendly enough and helpful although I typically have little interaction with them. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with anything you get here. read more

My boyfriend decided to surprise me with the northface sweater I had been wanting. Unfortunately... It wasn't exactly the correct one. After going through hell trying to exchange it (dicks told me they would take it as an exchange even if it was bought from the north face website, just to have us drive an hour to tell us no they were wrong... SO aggravating) and being frustrated that all the north face stores were at least an hour drive (longer with traffic) I decided my best bet was to brave the downtown traffic and rain and just come here. Let me tell you, BEST decision I could have made. Upon walking in I was greeted and directed toward exactly what I had asked for. Mind you I'm carrying my box with the old sweater, and a very kind cashier, JOSH, walked up to me and asked If I would like for him to take the box and put it at the register for me. I gratefully accepted the offer. Upon looking for the northface I originally wanted I was informed that they did not have it in store but Josh assured me if It was available online they could order it there and have it sent to my house. I would even get FREE two day shipping. I told him that I wanted to try on a few sweaters to make sure I ordered the correct size. Once I tried it on and exclaimed how much I liked the fit Josh told me that it was different from the one I wanted. I felt torn. He let me know the differences, and had also found the original sweater online (available) and had it in the cart ready to go if I decided I wanted to stick with that one. I wanted to call my SO for opinion. He went back to the register and patiently awaited my decision. I finally decided I wanted the one in store that I had tried on. When I finally went to the register to finalize everything he had everything already competed. He scanned my sweater, placed it in the bag, and handed me my receipt. It was the quickest exchange I had ever experienced!! He was informative, patient, and extremely helpful. Came in looking for a backpack that online is a 'staff pick' but the staff said they don't carry it. Must not be much of a 'staff pick' if it isn't worth carrying in their store. While it can be ordered, I'd really have liked to try it out first and see it in person cuz the equivalent that is "exactly" the same without one feature turned out to be pretty different.
