" College Days @ North face" The staff are young college kids for the most part . They talk among themselves, like the cool kids club in high school , lol . Only they are getting paid . They are not interested in helping customers, unfortunately. I was looking for a black warm north face jacket for my birthday gift, from my husband. The jacket was around $450.00 and these college kids are not helpful . We looked around couldn't find my size in the style I wanted . We hunted down a college kid to help us but it was not easy and they seemed like they didn't want to be bothered . I did not like that since we were going to spend hard earned monies . The store is messy upstairs and cramped . Downstairs a bit better . Not that big of a selection or of sizes . Parking is very difficult on busy Newbury Street , as well . I bought a black north face hat . However they didn't have the jacket I wanted in my size , unfortunately. When we walked out another staff member greeted us. All in all I expected more selection and a more helpful staff for the cost of buying in this store .

I purchased a pair of NorthFace mens trail shoes with gore-tex over a year ago. I did not use them for a long time, but then recently used them for casual wear only. The soles are in excellent condition, however, the seams are separating on the uppers where the fabric meets the rubber. I called North Face customer service and they transferred me to the warranty department. Since the shoes are out of the one-year warranty, they said that they could not help me in any way. I commented that it seems that North Face apparently has no interest in quality. Still no offer to help. I will never recommend or purchase North Face products. Date of experience: March 18, 2025

The folks who work here are so, so nice and helpful. Whether you're a seasoned pro looking for a second opinion or a newbie intimidated to ask the wrong question, ask away and they'll run through their encyclopedic list of knowledge with you. As you can guess from the name, they carry a million camp and hiking supplies, but even as a non-outdoorsy person, it's fun to browse. (My favorite purchase ended up being an ultra light dry bag backpack that came in handy on a trip to Bali in the rainy season.) They've got a wide selection of clothes that you'd wear everyday from Filson to Patagonia and Arcteryx. They've also got you covered for the wild outdoors of Back Bay with a great selection of raincoats and winter gear from brands like Marmot and Canada Goose. When possible, I'm really trying to shop here and support a local store instead of ordering everything from Amazon. For a small shop, they run some great sales, like 20% off all boots or 15% off all Canada Goose. It's impossible to believe HTC has only been here for a year or so -- it feels like it's been part of Central Square forever.

They aren't pushy and won't try to talk you into buying gear you don't need, but they aren't the cheapest. You pay a bit extra here for service and expertise, but it can be with it unless you know exactly what you want. One thing that I found was nice was when I finally decided on the skis I wanted, they helped me get them set up with bindings and got me out the door in 15 minutes. I had called a few other shops out in the suburbs that said their turnaround time was a week to install bindings on new skis and they were farther away too. You can't beat these guys for convenience, expertise, and speed and a generally great shopping experience. On the downside, you need to book an appointment in advance. You can't just walk in. Somebody told me they plan to stay appointment only, even after COVID.
