Storefront!
Madeline I.

This store is a hidden gem! I had previously purchased a backpack from them online and was so surprised to see they had a storefront as I was strolling down Newbury St! The customer service was great and super helpful! What a great experience with high quality backpacks!

These guys know their stuff! Leonard and Ken are super knowledgeable and helpful guys. Spent over an hour shopping in here last week and they helped out the whole time. Very patient and approachable, all around friendly guys. And very passionate about Fjällräven! This company makes some of the best gear out there in this guys opinion. Thanks for the help fellas! Keep up the good work!!!

Tear at the seam.

Great service, interior decor, demo to wax clothing, and high quality outdoor apparel.

“I ended up purchasing a medium sized backpack at 40% off and much lower than I would have ever gotten it for overseas.”

The folks who work here are so, so nice and helpful. Whether you're a seasoned pro looking for a second opinion or a newbie intimidated to ask the wrong question, ask away and they'll run through their encyclopedic list of knowledge with you. As you can guess from the name, they carry a million camp and hiking supplies, but even as a non-outdoorsy person, it's fun to browse. (My favorite purchase ended up being an ultra light dry bag backpack that came in handy on a trip to Bali in the rainy season.) They've got a wide selection of clothes that you'd wear everyday from Filson to Patagonia and Arcteryx. They've also got you covered for the wild outdoors of Back Bay with a great selection of raincoats and winter gear from brands like Marmot and Canada Goose. When possible, I'm really trying to shop here and support a local store instead of ordering everything from Amazon. For a small shop, they run some great sales, like 20% off all boots or 15% off all Canada Goose. It's impossible to believe HTC has only been here for a year or so -- it feels like it's been part of Central Square forever.

They aren't pushy and won't try to talk you into buying gear you don't need, but they aren't the cheapest. You pay a bit extra here for service and expertise, but it can be with it unless you know exactly what you want. One thing that I found was nice was when I finally decided on the skis I wanted, they helped me get them set up with bindings and got me out the door in 15 minutes. I had called a few other shops out in the suburbs that said their turnaround time was a week to install bindings on new skis and they were farther away too. You can't beat these guys for convenience, expertise, and speed and a generally great shopping experience. On the downside, you need to book an appointment in advance. You can't just walk in. Somebody told me they plan to stay appointment only, even after COVID.
