I bookmarked this place when the trip to Solvang was in the planning stage--landed here on our first day for some zen vibes. They have various items, such as crystals, incense, candles, tarot cards, essential oils, jewelry, and other mystical and spiritual tools. Although, I found that some items in the shop were in need of restocking. My daughter got me the Shungite bracelet. After purchasing the bracelet, the lady at the counter performed a short cleansing ritual on the item before handing it to you. The sales associate was helpful in answering our inquiries. Tried the psychic reading for curiosity: $30 for 20 minutes + tip. I would have tried the aura photography service if I had known they offered it as well. Overall, this visit to the shop adds a sense of magic, enchantment, spirituality, and some wonder to our day. read more

Here for the weekend and as I was walking I discovered this cute shop. I could feel the positive energy as I was drawn in to this shop. I make jewelry and I was actually looking to see if they had any hardware supplies. I'd already went to Mia's beads but she was closed today due to an illness. I encountered a mystic and charming store that had many chakra beads and a whole lot of other cool stuff. Just the aroma itself was intoxicating. I am a jewelry maker and my specialty is working with beads and making bracelets and earrings. It is always awesome when I could purchase someone else's creativity. Amazing energy! As soon as you walk in you can literally feel it. Well I can ;) Loved loved loved this place they have so many items for you to choose from. The variety is endless and the people who work here are very welcoming. I bought a lot of items a ring, some bracelets, a pendulum and a few crystals and some small gifts for my friends. I'll try to make it a point next time I'm in the area to see what new items they have in stock. But if you're into crystals or would like to purchase some palo santo, tarot cards or sage this is it! read more

What caught my attention wasn't the store's signage but the large displays in the window. At the door, there's a hand written sign that says, "Santa Barbara county requires face masks. Please wear mask inside :)" There's also a sign that indicates the "new store hours for now... Closed Mondays and Tuesdays Thursday-Sunday 11am-5pm Aura photos Thursday-Sunday 12:30-4pm Readings Wednesday-Sunday 12-4pm And there's another sign that says Welcome furry friends come on in. Right as you walk in there's a sign for the readings for today are done by Tricia and her prices. When I entered the store, I noticed there were several people in there already, so I made my way around and gravitated to the sections that caught my eye. There was a lot to look at including crystals, minerals, gemstone jewelry, statuary, candles, incense, books. I found some things I was going to buy, then found the employee and asked her for a larger version of the rough apatite. She went into the back and came out with 4 larger ones. I told her thank you but I couldn't buy 4, as that was an unlucky number in my culture so I would buy 3 of them. She perked up and asked me why so I told her. She was very interested and told me about the things she believes in. She was very nice. read more

I really enjoyed this place. Had a neat selection and decent prices. The two ladies who worked there were very friendly and talkative, and they are knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to the crystals. They even cleanse them for you before bagging them up. This is such a fun store to visit. Not only do they carry books, but jewelry and lots and lots of rocks. All kinds of rocks. Many colors and far too many choices. If you are into rock collecting as a hobby, this is your store for sure. read more

Just rude...we will not blame it on COVID either and poor customer service and biases are not attractive in these times. Inferences that a person cannot afford something and that they have no knowledge of what they are asking for. I know that what I asked for is available just because you don't have it does not mean that it doesn't exist. read more

Came across this place after having breakfast just two doors down. Every crystal and gem you could imagine! My daughter has been researching and using natural crystals and gems to help with her stress, anxiety and physical uneasiness since Covid hit the world. Unfortunately, my daughter was not with me when I stumbled upon this store, but I did have her on facetimed her while shopping. The selection of materials are ample but the prices are a tad higher than we are used to, however that did not stop me from getting all the stones and beaded bracelets she wanted. Each stone will have the name and a listing of it's energy. The best part is that the light up sage and cleanse your items before bagging them! I'm glad to know that purchases could also be made online as we live over 2 hours away! read more

I used to like coming to this store and didn't mind driving 45 minutes to visit this place . Today Saturday 7/11, I visited this store again and I was very disappointed as my daughter and were ready to pay, we were not greeted by the women at the registry and didn't even have eye contact. The magic of this store is for customers to have the human connection and have some friendly empathic environment, but that was not my experience today! Not even a hello or a simple eye contact . Very cold and unfriendly customer service. Perhaps they need to burn or spray the store's sage to their own benefit and wear a pink quartz to open up their emotions a little bit more ! read more

I had a wonderful time visiting The Mystic Merchant as always. I hadnt had my cards read in years. So i went for a visit and met the newer Tarot reader who id not met before. As a psychic medium myself....i really value what other psychics or mediums have to say. However this woman was neither. She just pulled my cards and gave me her opinions in the form of advise basically. I was very bummed out when i left as she referred to me as "kiddo" while i walked through her curtains to head to pay the 65$ for the 45 mins of advise i did not need. I will always be back to the Mystic Merchant for the lovely spiritual atmosphere, energy and pretty things. But that will be it for now. read more

BE WARNED THE OWNER (curly, short, dark hair and bulging blue eyes) IS INCREDIBLY RUDE AND CRAZY. I had been shopping in the store 30 minutes before closing (like many others the store was FULL) and had about $100 worth of product I was going to purchase when I saw a sign saying they offer palm readings, aura pictures, etc. I kindly asked if they were still offering them and the owner snapped at me saying (while walking away from me into the back room), "We close in 5 minutes it's not available you can come tomorrow or we do phone consultations." Sensing her irate tone (which was already unnecessary for a simple question) I calmly responded, "Thank you for letting me know unfortunately I leave tomorrow so I won't be able to" to which she YELLED at me saying, "IM NOT SURE WHAT YOU'RE NOT UNDERSTANDING BUT I SAID WE'RE CLOSING." I walked away and told the other sales associate (who was very kind and helpful) that I was no longer going to purchase the items. Why would I want products from someone who casts that kind of energy on their clients from a SIMPLE QUESTION/INTERACTION?! As my friend and I were leaving the shop, SHE CHASES AFTER US WITH BURNING SAGE, "CLEANSING" WHERE WE HAD WALKED AND SLAMS/LOCKS THE DOOR BEHIND US. Like okay. Swirl the sage around yourself first before making a scene. For someone that owns and operates a crystal shop, you would think a kinder, more calming and grounded energy would be something that was important to her but clearly it's not. Save your money and shop elsewhere. read more

The owner was and is ridiculously rude and not someone I would ever knowingly buy crystals or products with healing properties from. She was offensive (not to mention crazy) and is extremely lacking in customer service especially over simple and basic interactions. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS from this overpriced store. The last thing you want is to bring products with her toxic energy encompassing it into your life. read more

We take a trip every year around the death date of our son Goose. This year we were heading south from the Bay Area in Northern California through Santa Barbara. We were in Solvang four years ago to the day when we received the call that our son was in a major accident. We had just gotten Aura pictures they day of his crash. We telephoned the Mystic Merchant earlier this week because we would be passing through Solvang during a time they were not doing Aura pictures. We wanted to get them done again and spread some ashes in Solvang. Luckily, Kendall answered the phone, heard the story, and agreed to come in off hours so that we could get out Aura pictures done again! We are so grateful : ) read more

Once upon a time in Solvang, close to where the Mystic Merchant is located (I think about a block over or so), there once existed this little metaphysical gift shop. They mostly sold books on world religion, candles and incense and the like. The owner told us in a hushed tone that "we only have a couple pentacle-y and witch-y things in the back, because the conservative Christian population here would get nervous and try to run us out". This was in 2004. A few years after, the wife and I were disappointed to find a sign posted in the shop's empty window thanking the public for their patronage - but that the current "environment" wasn't conducive to them staying in business. It bummed us out - as Solvang is one of our fave places... but then, later that day, we happened upon The Mystic Merchant! The Mystic Merchant is one of many reasons why I love coming back to Solvang time after time. It represents an island of open-mindedness and acceptance in what can sometimes be a sea of traditional and conservatism. Now don't get me wrong. The wife and I love Solvang; and anyone who has followed my Yelps knows that it's one of the wife and i's fave places to "get away" to. We love the old-world craftsmanship on display here, and the raw sense of European Tradition is so refreshing. Howeeeeeever.....as we sometimes know; those Danes and Norsemen can sometimes get a bit...stodgy in their ways. As you've probably read in the other reviews, the shop is a metaphysical/alternative religion book/gift/supply shop. They have all kinds of interesting fun merchandise! Books, incense, crystals, jewelery, tapestries and all sorts of other unique gifts. The owner is a real sweetheart, and very knowledgeable; and not pushy at all! You're more than welcome to roam and browse and ask all sorts of questions. In the rear of the shop is a women who does tarot readings and aura photography interpretations, and she's a sweetie too. Their selection is pretty good, and their prices are reasonable. High on some things, low on others...pretty much what you'd find in other such shops. Certainly a fun and refreshingly open place to stop by when your in the Solvang area. It stands out.. and yet.. fits into the area so well - I hope it stays around for years to come. read more

I had an amazing time in here. The prices are great compared to what I find in LA county & the bay area. The store is clean & shopper friendly. The women behind the counter were friendly & had all the answerers to our silly questions. We bought a good amount of stuff just due to the good service. They even had used horse shoes, which made it trip! They are non existent in LA, so to find a used one for good luck was amazing. This place really made the trip to the town really fun. This metaphysical store is so cute! But like many other stores in Solvang, it's rather small. The vibe is okay, but I think I got a negative vibe because my sister and I just got in when they were about to close...and we didn't get anything. But I'd probably feel the same way if I were the employee, haha (btw, this didn't affect my rating). I think I was just a little disappointed because some of the items that were there were a little more expensive than I would hope; I knew I could get what I wanted cheaper back home. And because there are few items, they didn't even carry the essential oil scent that I wanted to get (frankincense and patchouli). Some cool things: aura pictures! I didn't get one, but I've only seen this offered in a couple new age stores. If I recall, the price was relatively decent ($25-45, which is the average price). There was also a psychic reader; rates were reasonable. I debated on whether or not I should go for fun, but after listening to some kooks, I figured it would be best to save my money and go to readers I actually trust. So...I'm not sure how the readers are here. read more

I have to agree with one of the comments left by another. This shop is your typical tourist metaphysical shop. I have been in plenty of metaphysical shops and the vibes I felt in this particular shop was ok, not bad but, just ok. One of the ladies was very argumentative when it came to the amber bracelets meant for teething for infants. I called them beads and she insisted they were not however, anything from stones to glass that are drilled out for bracelets, necklaces etc. are beads and a possible choking hazard as she insisted the bracelets were for infants to put in their mouths to soothe their gums when teething. My understanding of these stores are to promote healing without judgement. My sister left after being asked to go outside, because my one year old niece was fuzzy (which is fine). The lady in the store proceeded to talk about my sister, even after she had left. This is just spreading negative energy. My sister was not aware of the reading in the back. read more

I am obsessed with this place! I visited yesterday 7/11/2020 and just had to go back again today twice actually because I couldn't get enough of this place. I want to thank the wonderful ladies who were doing their best yesterday while it was so busy and hot but I would also like to thank the owner, Joelle for the wonderful and magical experience I had at her store today, you are just beyond words to even describe. Finding this store within the Solvang shopping area was bit of a treat. Not only did they have normal prices (because everything is pretty costly in the Solvang shopping center), but they have a beautiful collection of healing crystals to choose from. I purchased my first pendant here and many other beautiful crystals. Wish they were closer but the woman who rang me up told me they have a website if I ever wanted to purchase online :) read more

A lovely crystal store with super knowledgable people and amazing enormous gigantic crystals. Some huge specimens that give the natural history museum a run for its' money. If you are a rock geek, stop in! It's a super cute street that's fun for a leisurely stroll as well. read more

Metaphysical, new age type of shop that attracts the older ladies in flowy dresses like cat nip. We're talking the ones wearing a lot of silver or turquoise and frequently mention living in California in the 1960s. The shop is loaded with rocks and minerals, incense, crystals and runes, plus books on the subject matter. I think I remember seeing Tarot cards. Mystic Merchant doesn't quite cross the threshold into occult or magick and still has a bit of a touristy gift shop feel about it. It could very well be that the former aspects are downplayed to keep with the other, more crafty boutiques that cater to more conservative crowds as one of the previous reviewers mentioned. read more

Went in during a little vacation and had the pleasure of chatting up Alan. He was knowledgeable, kind and patient as I asked a million and one questions. He answered questions for me about specific stones, ways to practice with them and how I can (and why I should) cleanse the stones I've purchased. I really wanted to have a reading done but none of the ladies were there and wouldn't be again until the end of the week. What I really appreciated is that although I was ready to spend a bunch of money (as this is a new hobby and practice for me) he wasn't trying to up sell me at all. He actually encouraged me to take it slow and ease my way into the world of stones and energy, being mindful of what speaks to me and not just what I hear from others. Beautiful store with great energy. They have a great collection of healing and energy stones at very reasonable prices. Nice pieces for your home that will help you become more mindful or will add to peaceful energy. In the back of the store they also have a wonderful collection of CD's for meditation and relaxation. When she noticed one of them were gone, she slammed the door and said, "no one is leaving this store until I find the keychain." Eventually she found the Keychain somewhere else and said, "thats what happens when you move stuff" unpleasantly. When she opened the door, everyone left immediately. I DO NOT recommend going here. What could definitely improve is the employees attitude and the way she handles her business. Trying to hold customers hostage is not very professional.

There was a lady behind the counter but she avoided greeting me. I know this is a tourist town because the pricing was high. I do understand the mark up is needed to sustain the running of this business, etc. I will wait to return to Old Town Temecula where they sell the exact same items for much lower. This is one of the stores we stopped in during our wanderings. It's beautifully displayed, with many different feature areas. From unique kitchen gadgets and accessories, to home accents of many different types, there's much to see and consider here. Full retail is in effect, and some of the items seem very pricey, which is the reason for a one star reduction. Still, I found it very enjoyable to browse their selections, enjoying the stylish displays. I did find several items to take home, plus picked up a couple small gifts. I particularly love a silicone spatula I bought here, which has an ergonomic design that makes it comfortable to use. I don't know how they'll manage reopening / whether they offer buy online and pickup with minimal contact. I hope that they'll be able to survive the Coronavirus situation!

At this visit I was looking for a delicate sterling silver ring that our daughter has been searching for. I was surprised to find it and took a picture to send to her. In doing that I also took a picture of the wall of clocks, since it was nostalgic to our last visit. My husband then told me about the No Videos/Photos signs (sorry!). Our daughter texted back saying it was the ring she wanted. A staff member happened to come up at that moment who asked if I needed any help. She opened the case, but the ring was too big. She was so kind to look through the other sizes with me, but they didn't have more. We then walked around admiring all the collectibles and the wonderful details of the wooden German clocks. We plan to come back when our daughter visits in the Spring. Hopefully they will have her size then.
