As a curious tourist (born and raised in Los Angeles County but this is my first visit to Solvang), my sister and I stopped in the ZFolio Gallery, lured in by some stunning variegated blue and clear glass aquatic themed art pieces in the window, as well as a unique ring with an incredible wave-ish design edged with with brilliant, tiny, fiery diamonds on twisted gold "petals" of multicolored, unusual hues of gold - not the expected rose, white and, well, "gold" - but a dark gray, a regular gold, and a black. (I was so fascinated by the ring through the front window, I almost knocked myself out.) Steve Bowersock was so kind as to treat my sister and me to a guided tour of the artisans' works on display, a dazzling and captivating grouping of rare designs, exotic gemstones, and Swarovski crystals worked up in silver and gold. It has some of the most unique artwork in jewelry that we have ever seen and all at reasonable prices. this gallery have 2 locations, one in Solvang and the 2nd in Monterey. I went to the one in Solvang last Friday. The gallery features Czech glass art and the photographic arts of Michael Mendizza. Michael is an author, educator, documentary film maker and founder of Touch the Future (a non-profit organization). I love his photographic arts which one can truly appreciate in large scale. We may have enjoyed the gallery at the time, but when I contacted them a year plus later re a problem with the necklace (and included receipt copy) - not a word of acknowledgement or response of any kind. Meanwhile I contacted the artist who designed the necklace and heard back immediately. Customer service matters! P.S. I did hear back 10 days after my first email. The response was such that it sounded like the salesperson had read this review and felt obligated to respond. In the interim the jewelry artist (in Germany) communicated with me several times and was so friendly and helpful that I actually ended up buying a necklace similar to the one I had lost which he offered to make and sell for 50% off the regular price. Final update - the owner of the gallery contacted me to apologize for the delay in anyone contacting me. One more thing. I did not mention that the owner asked me to change my review. Nestled in Solvang, this gallery is a "gem" in this town. The other gem is Solvang Antiques. While this store does sell online (and I urge you to check out the amazing glass, wood and jewelry) the pictures do not do justice to the works of art found here. If you are looking for unique one-of-a-kind art for your home please do yourself a favor and behold, marvel and wonder the many beautiful and unique pieces to be found here. Not everything is a budget buster, my wife was looking at a piece of jewelry for her wrist and it was $50. We purchased a red lacquered vase today, on sale till the end of the month. We were pretty overwhelmed with the mass-produced (in China) souvenirs of 'Danish' things (many of which are actually Dutch) and ZFolio was like a palate cleanser. Everything is one of a kind jewelry. Prices are reasonable. Customer service is EXTRAORDINARY. Ask for Liz Newnham, although I'm sure all the sales people are knowledgeable. To give you an example of the service I received: I liked a ring by Mr. Kennedy, but wanted a different colored onxy. The ring had to be sized down. Liz contacted the designer on the phone (out of State) while I was in the store. He said no problem. I said I wanted it by Valentine's Day. No problem. Sure enough, I got it several days ago. (Less than 2 weeks turnaround all together.) I love my ring! ... And the prices won't break the bank. If you're in Solvang, stop by. It will be worth your time. Who would've have expected in the town of Solvang which is let's just say isn't famous for not exactly having the most chic stores, that this total gem of a place would be there. I have to honestly say that this THE best collection of modern jewelry I have ever seen, no lie I wanted to buy literally everything in this store. If you're getting married, have an anniversary, or just want to spoil yourself, I definitely recommend Z Folio Gallery. What impressed me the most was the quality of jewelry they have--it seems to be like everything there is handmade. When you first look in the window it seems like everything there is extremely modern but I found after checking everything out that there is a really nice mix of styles. There is the Scandinavian look, more natural styles, modern sleek, and more. There is one line of jewelry with delicate leaves and sapphires that I just adore. My husband and I went ring shopping at Z Folio and were really impressed with their customer service and options for wedding bands. They have a really great selection for men which can be really hard to find. Natasha and Penny both helped us out a lot and gave us some great insider tips on what to buy and how to care for the rings. It's a much bigger store than it appears from outside so I actually had a hard time deciding what to get! UPDATE: After writing this review I received a replacement ring in the mail. Thank you ZFolio Gallery for replacing my ring, it's beautiful. I very much appreciate that my ring was replaced. Despite ZFolio's reply that they had to use 10x magnifying to see the 2 black spots on my ring, I could see them very obviously, that's why I took the ring back. I feel it is unfortunate that the only reason I feel like I got a replacement is because I went to Yelp. I still stand by my earlier review, it is a beautiful Gallery with beautiful jewelry and art, however, my husband has declared he will never purchase from them again. read more
