Experience 12/28/2023 I visited this place for the first time early 2023 and brought my kids back in December 2023. This place is a museum on its own. During both visits I had excellent experience with staff. The store is simply amazing. Their vintage watch collection is a must! For our second visit, we got an antique watch for my son's graduation. And , the store celebrated my son's milestone by giving us a small discount. That meant a lot. Note: you have to call in to get an appointment to get to the store. I didn't know that during our second visit, and I took the chance and called the number if we can do a quick walk in. They granted our request and allowed us to go in and look without an appointment. read more

truly a gem of a store... this was a mystical place filled with exquisite treasures of yesteryear. upon stepping inside renaissance antiques one is instantly transported to a kinder, gentler time in history. between the vintage phonographs, the magnificent timepieces, the elegant furnishings & the various art works, one's senses are overloaded with memories of visits to great historic homes & museums. one simply would never expect to find such a jewel in the midst of solvang with its plethora of sweet shops & touristy boutiques filled with novelty trinkets. many times, I fell madly in lust with assorted objet d'art in this showroom. sadly, most were well beyond my self-employed budget. truth be told, my annual holiday trips to solvang were never complete without perusing treasures at renaissance. like many, I am saddened to learn of the closure of this charming & unique mom & pop business that brought so much joy into my life. This was one of my favorite store to walk into while in solvang. I was so mesmerized with the music boxes!! A very nice lady gave us info, walked us through some items and even let us listen to the music. It was so beautiful. It's a goal to come back and buy a music box. All of the items in this store were restored and will have a 1 year warranty when you make a purchase. Clocks were beautiful here too but I loved the music boxes more. If you're in the area, I recommend this antique. The next time I come here, I'll be buying a music box. read more

I want to thank Renaissance Antiques for their service, care and guidance. Yesterday at another shop in Solvang, I purchased a vintage watch (Omega Seamaster 600 of the 1960s) and immediately headed to Renaissance Antiques to ask for the watchmaker to take a look. He did so, saying the timepiece is great and just needs a mainspring replacement and slightly bigger crystal for tighter fit. I live 150 miles away and headed home today, so regrettably I could not leave it in their great hands for the work to be done. Nevertheless, they were kind, encouraging and generous with their time -- so now I look forward to visiting and shopping there during future Solvang visits for years to come! read more

When my grandfather passed away in 1995, I inherited a Magic Dancer music box. It was my favorite, and I was mesmerized by the bobbing dancer with doves and the little tune it played. Very shortly after inheriting it, the music mechanism stopped working and the Magic Dancer stopped dancing. After 25 years of silence, Ron at Renaissance Antiques has resurrected my Magic Dancer. Ron truly is an angel and I wish I could give Renaissance Antiques more than 5 stars because they deserve it. First several confessions... I am a perfectionist and secondly, do not work well w/ people that are not honest, knowledgeable and professionals at what they do... Renaissance Antiques excels on all accounts... I dealt w/ a great fella by the name of Ron and sincerely wish I had meet him sooner... I had several very old treasured family clocks that went back 3 generations and could not repair them do to shaky old hands and the lack of resources to find needed parts... They were able to find all necessary delicate parts and also had the resources to have some custom ground beveled glass made that was missing... They refinished the brass case on an old tarnished carriage clock and it was obvious it was done w/ attention to detail... My friend and I were having a day trip in Solvang and we stopped by at this store before driving back. And this was definitely the highlight of our trip. The gentleman who greeted us was really kind and professional, and let me hear all the music boxes that I was curious about. He also kindly explained the mechanism and history of the music boxes. You could tell that he was treating the music boxes with genuine care, not just as items for sale. It was my first time seeing (and hearing) a disc music box, and it sounded so beautiful. I also got to see and hear a barrel organ music box, and a Violano-Virtuoso. In addition to that, it was truly a wonderful experience to see those antique pieces which date back so many years and carry so much history and memories. We stopped in here while we were meandering around Solvang one afternoon and loved it! It's such a charming little store with fantastic items! They've done such a great job with the displays and there are treasures in every corner of this store. The ladies working there were very knowledgable about everything we asked about in the store and so friendly. They even let us bring our pup in while we were in the store, which we really appreciated. Luckily she's pretty small, so we don't have to worry about her tail wagging around and whipping a priceless treasure onto the floor or into a million pieces. Prices were pretty reasonable for an antique store and their customer service was fantastic. I loved this store and would definitely come back here the next time we're in the area to see if there are any treasures that we can't do without. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. read more

Glancing around the construction in Solvang I saw that the beautiful old building on the corner across from the park was going through a massive rehab. One of the delights of Solvang was the selection of European antiques that Renaissance Antiques offers. Where will I get to see all those antique music boxes and clocks? I pondered this question as I treated myself to a magnificent cheese board from The Stone Cow across the park. I turned to my trusty Yelp directory, and sure enough, Renaissance Antiques is still in Solvang, just down the block a bit, nearer the main drag. I hightailed it over there after lunch and as usual, entered a world of wonder. Each clock is like a separate world from another time, and each music box is an orchestra of fantasy waiting to play. I was warmly greeted upon entering, and allowed to photograph the antiques. The display is better than any museum I have seen for master mechanical time and music pieces. These are delicate instruments and were extremely high tech in their day. They also have pocket watches and an attractive assortment of estate jewelry and paintings. The owner was present, explaining to a couple the way that an antique clock had just been reassembled. The lights are also wonderful, many are reworked gas lamps with electric fittings. The prices are probably top of the market, but each piece has either been lovingly restored, or is in mint condition. read more

On the West Coast it is near impossible to find a great antique store. Renaissance Antiques is the BEST I have found in Southern/Central California. Ron and Julie are extremely knowledgeable and are always happy to answer my questions. I have purchased several amazing items from them and I always make a point to visit when I'm in the area. HIGHLY recommend if you're in to antiques and are tired of "flea market" antique stores that don't have the real treasures you're looking for. Gosh! What do I say about this shop? This was the first time I ever stepped foot in an antique store and I'm glad it was a good one to start with. I definitely felt like I time-traveled into a different era! The store is well arranged with so many things to check out. The lady working there was courteous and very knowledgeable. They have some really ancient clocks which date back to the 14th century! They also carry music boxes and they look so traditional with the beautiful carving and play such soothing music. They have many more things like pocket watches, art pieces and much more. They also repair watches. Since these pieces belong to an ancient era, they are super expensive!! Wow, what a cool place and what a fantastic history lesson. Today, my boyfriend and I decided to cruise through this antique shop. We never thought we'd leave that place with information about original clocks and music boxes. Although we didn't leave with a treasure, we left with some amazing facts from the gentleman working there. It was a treat to hear the music from the Switzerland music box and the copper disc box. We have a mantel clock that had previously had the workings changed from electrical to quartz, but it had stopped working. We took it Renaissance Antiques and they looked at it and gave us an estimate to put in a new quartz movement with Westminster chime's. They had the clock approximately a month and we are ecstatic with the new movement and the quality of work. Priced at $100 to remove & replace with a new movement for our clock was great! What an absolute delight. My husband and I stumbled across this antique shop because there were signs saying that there was a major 70% off sale going on. Mind you, even with the sale we couldn't afford anything in here, but it did inspire me to get a small grandfather clock here when hubby and I move into a condo or house in a few years. This place is a little out of the way, in an alley area, but it truly is such a gem. The store is filled with mini rooms with dozens and dozens of clocks and other antiques of different shapes and sizes. There was an organ there worth $22,000!! The store transported me back decades and even hundreds of years ago, imagining what the people were like that owned this stuff. The woman running the shop was very kind and pretty knowledgeable of everything in her shop. She told us that some of the clocks we were looking at dates back to the 1850s. She even played a song for us on one of those old fashioned record players that has a trumpet-like speaker. It was such a cool experience to come here. I believe that the antiques were maintained to be in good shape, and by the quality of them, I'm certain they're worth how much she's selling. There were a couple clocks that were worth a little under $200 so I would actually like to come back here in the future and buy something. Hoping to go back! read more

Apparently of the 6 employees only 1 is capable of assisting with watches. I only needed a battery change, but had to wait 20+ minutes. Perhaps you can train someone else in the store on how this relatively easy task is done. That way when you have multiple customers, as retail shops tend to do, you can assist them in a timely manner. Otherwise, stop offering these services because it brings down your business reputation. read more

The town of Solvang has always been full of history and charm. I've visited many times over the years and just discovered Renaissance Antiques. The owners were extremely helpful as were the staff. They took the time to thoroughly explain the history of the antiques (many dating back to the 14th century). They had a previous showroom a few doors down many years ago, but now they have this location and a downstairs showroom as well. Both showrooms were incredible! Music boxes, grandfather clocks, antique pocket watches, jewelry, and amazing European and Asian antiques. The best part was that all of the items were in working order and in amazing condition for being a few hundred years old. I'm a customer of Ron and Julie Palladino and have been for, gulp, going on 45 years. My appreciation of their knowledge about antiques, their honesty, passion about the items they offer and dedication to quality service are beyond anything I've ever experienced with any other business. What other businesses can claim such client loyalty? Almost half a century! Additionally, they are delightful people to know as just friends. Now that I live on the East Coast I still stay in touch with Ron and Julie and only hope they'll pay my wife and I a visit. I'd like to add that every item I've ever bought from these folks are still in my possession and are still in working condition after these many years. One example of a clock I bought from them over forty years ago and is still one of my most cherished possessions is a small Mantel Clock dating from the early 19th Century, made by James McCabe.
