I went in during the December time - great little store for fun and I like seeing each display of all the different things to the miniatures like in my pictures below of all the Mickey & Friends and Disney memorabilia of ornaments and ceramic things. As I checked out I got 2 things, two Donald Duck stuff one ornament and cake topper little figure, when I got to the counter the prices were a little much the Donald you see in my 2nd and 4th was $32 and I did not notice the little chip in his finger and the employees never noticed it till I did when I got home. I called the store up and the same girl who I checked out with came to the phone and told me I can talk to the manager about it the next day I hope that someone knows to check and wrap things separately if broken or fragile. Still if you're ever in the Solvang area check this little store out. The employees should check with the customer if it's broken, chipped, scratched or anything. That's why I had to call about 2 hours after I left the store to realize that. Hope they can give a little discount on that stuff. read more

One of a kind miniature store located in the heart of Solvang with hand-crafted mini items for dollhouses and fairy gardens! They also have bath items such as bath salts and bath-bombs to add to your relaxing time. A fun place to look around and get some souvenirs. My kids loved this place and wanted to stop by a couple times while we were in Solvang. We had great service and helpful staff. Didn't get her name but a young woman working in the front in the morning was great. I saw some negative reviews but understand the store policy on no strollers since it's a tight space and full of breakable items. Also, children no touching signs all over, but again, totally understandable and probably were put up after items were damaged in the past. 100% recommend this spot, you won't see another like it. read more

I've been coming to this store for well over 10 years now. And it's always a delight to be in here and see everything. It's got a lot of dainty ceramic tea cups and pots, porcelain dolls, glassware, soaps, bathing goodies,miniature odds and ends. There is a reason why there are signs now about age, dogs, strollers, food. The store is jam packed. Something will break and if you break, you better buy it or just don't even go into the store. They didn't use to have those signs up, but some things happen and those kinds of signs will need to be put up. Dogs have destroyed items from careless owners not watching. And young children have broken pieces or knocked off items or worst case scenario they have sticky fingers. The backend has been closed for what seems like ages to me. I still remember when the back end was open and when there weren't the fairy miniatures and bath salts bar in the store. It is still a beautiful store to visit. I will say the items are overpriced but it's a tourist town, what can you expect. If you want great prices go buy online or purchase directly from the manufacturer. Buy somewhere else if the prices don't work for you. It is a great place to find a unique gift for yourself or someone else. The service use to be really good but has gone down as of late, the staff don't know about their products in the store anymore. But it is worth a quick jaunt through this quaint store. UPDATE (4/6/2024): a nice visit today on a Saturday morning. Turns out the backend of the shop opens up on weekends! And the staff said it was due to short staffing on the weekdays. Edelweiss is in the heart of the rest of the best of Solvang. It's a gift shop with many shall I say overpriced items for what they are. Not a kid-friendly store by any means. A sign by the girl's bows and headbands reads something like "don't let children touch them," but just how are they supposed to choose what they want if they can't? Two employees saw us looking at them and neither one offered to help, so guess what I did that will contribute to my mother of the year nomination? Let them search through the headbands that they actually wanted! They also don't allow photos in their store per the sign on the front window. The gifts here may be just as kitsch if not more than other shops in the area, but they do have more unique items too... tea sets, miniature village figurines including fairies, night lights, candles, soaps, jewelry, ornaments, and assortment of dolls and other trinkets. What would have made this a bit less stressful was if the customer service was there, but it simply was not. First impressions are everything. Before you even walk into the store you can see signs everywhere that say "no food, dogs, strollers, etc". As you get into the store more signs are placed everywhere saying that kids touching anything is not welcome. Can you say Bahumbug? As we were walking around looking at things a worker said to another "if these are all looky loos then we will just shut the doors early". How else are customers supposed to find something to buy? My husband and I collect basset hound kitsch, so when I spent a day in Solvang, the land of a hundred kitsch shops, last month, I was hoping to find a bassety trinket to add to our collection. I struck out at a few stores, but my friend June K. thought Edelweiss looked promising. The place was bursting with colorful, useless, adorable, hideous thingamabobs, and we went up and down, combing each shelf for long-eared droopy-jowled dogs. We ended up finding not one, but three basset hounds--four, actually, as the salt and pepper shakers were two separate hounds. I decided not to get the basset hound shakers, as I already have three pairs, but I picked up a tiny figurine and a small jewelry box with a basset hound on top. The jewelry box basset was pretty faded, and I mentioned this when I checked out, hoping the cashier would adjust the price. June was more direct about it, asking if I could get a discount, but the cashier politely refused. I bought it anyway, as I hadn't seen a jewelry box like it before, even in my many internet searches of basset hound paraphernalia. If you're looking for a whimsical, possibly dog-themed tchotchke, Edelweiss should have something that tickles your fancy. It's like the curio cabinets of a thousand grandmothers, all emptied out and displayed in a single shop in Solvang. read more

Cute store. They don't allow photos inside. They have the largest selection of miniature items I have ever seen in a store. Anything and everything gnome, Fantasy, A lot of cute hair clips, a lot of nice bath salts and bath bombs which are a little more pricey side. Really cute bird things, items, decor small bird nest with cute eggs, little bird decorations, birdbath and or feeders. They have a huge selection of extremely unique night lights. I think those would make a really cool gift for people. Very nice staff. For such a store full of things they really kept it organize. I wanted to buy both of my grandbabies something from this store but we literally was followed from the door to the back and to the exit. Don't recommend this store. Please spend your money elsewhere. We sure did. Plus they have signs posted for children not to touch or for no photography/photos all over the store. I was shopping for a friend and accidentally bought the wrong item : I went back to exchange it and I was owed a refund and I did pay cash. I returned to the store within 5 min and they would only give me store credit ! I asked the young lady to ask if they would make an exception but she said no .... she talked to her boss in front of me ... about my request and they agreed I didn't deserve my money back for the difference ... so if you buy from them it's yours or exchanges only. Don't shop here!! We didn't have any children with us, but wow, pure discrimination. As we walked in, there was an Asian family trying to decide how they would go into the store because their youngest daughter was probably 3 years old. The sign on the door said no children under 15 years old because of the fragile items in the store. The father walked in with his older daughter and the old woman "greeting" customers immediately said she couldn't come in. The father told her she was 16 years old. The old woman questioned her age and said 90% of their items are breakable, but the father repeated that she was 16 so the old woman finally let them through. We turn to continue shopping and there's a young white girl about 8-years old about 10 feet from the old woman. There was no way the girl even looked 10 years old. Clear discrimination. read more

We called and she said she was rearranging things and that another person was coming in around 12PM and she would open around 1:00PM. But at 1:30 store is still closed and now there 2 women inside working. Tried at 3:00PM and still closed. Gave one more try today at 2:00 and they were actually open. But worst customer service ever - there was only the same girl from yesterday behind the counter but she never once acknowledged anyone in the store - she was too busy texting on her phone. I ALWAYS visit this shop whenever I'm in Solvang bc I am a sucker for miniature things. They have mini tea sets, fairies, woodland creatures, mini fruits and veggies to create your own mini farmer's market, and furniture. Almost anything you would possibly want to create your own miniature town. Items can also be used for garden decorations. I know things are overpriced here bc they carry items I've seen at bargain stores but I like to believe it's due to the time they put into setting up their displays, the unique selections they carry, and the location of the place. In addition, their signs are beautifully handwritten if you're into penmanship. (I read from another review one of their hiring requirements is nice handwriting.) However, I am perplexed by their "no photos" signs bc it can bring forth a lot of potential customers and buzz on social media. Maybe it's to protect themselves from copycats? Had to leave $57 of merchandise on the counter this trip thanks to the cashier being M.I.A. (missing in action). After waiting 10 mins without any help, we left the store. Kind of shocking to learn later that the chick who should have been on duty was goofing around half way down the block while customers were alone with all the merchandise...perfect opportunity for items to walk off. I was here yesterday and this old lady at the front (who didn't even have a mask) didn't let me in because I had my kid! She was so rude she should be retired by now lol. I walked by the next morning and saw that the no kids sign wasn't up so me and my little one walked in! The kind young lady working welcomed us in and didn't say anything about my child. Right away she let us know to go to her for help and she was very sweet! I feel terrible for the employees working with the old lady. Very weird and rude customer service. I've been in this store three times and have had an awful experience each time and so I'm finally writing a review. The staff follow you around like you are going to steal something. I used to be an elementary school teacher and wouldn't harm a fly - I don't give off "I'm going to steal your fairy village" vibes. When asking questions or looking at things, again the staff make you feel like you are burdening them by being in the store and don't want you in there. Very rude and bad customer service. I went here just last Saturday. On the door outside is a sign that says you must be 15 years or older to enter?Majority of the items in this store are toys or things younger children would enjoy so I thought that was quite stupid. Everything inside the store has do not tough signs, seriously everything. The store is utterly overpriced, so much so that I saw multiple items that you can find at the dollar store marked up to about 5-10$. The store owners/workers didn't have on face masks and one of the workers actually felt the need to inform my dad that they were "mask optional". To add on to this behavior they lacked basic customer service skills and the entire store was very unwelcoming. I would not recommend comming here and supporting this God awful store. read more

My friend was excited to stop in at Edelweiss. As for me, as soon as we walked in I felt a negative vibe, and that was before I saw the big sign that is squarely in front of you when you walk in that says, Not to take Pictures. While I understand a owners concerns about business, you would think free publicity on social media would be a reason to allow pics, I mean what if Jane Doe sees a Windmill she can't live without? She might hop on the 101 and head to Solvang right then and there. We were never greeted, but I greeted her. Personally she just seemed over it in my honest opinion, of course maybe she was just having a bad day, but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. The store seems outdated and a bit tired, I felt let down at the whole experience, and I think my friend did too, as she commented that it wasn't the store she remembered it to be. With so many gift shops in Solvang to choose from, the owner might want to reconsider the social media aspect. read more

Caveat Emptor....the "E" in Edelweiss stands for "Extortion." Simply put, if you're thinking of buying gifts and souveniers here when you're in Solvang....DON'T. The nightlight you just paid $31 for? You can get the same one at the shop next door for $13. Did you just pay $99 for a lamp? You can get the same lamp around the corner for $25. Gift shop prices in Solvang are pretty standard...most shops have the same stuff, and prices vary by a dollar or two here or there. NOT AT EDELWEISS. The minute you enter the shop, you're in an alternate dimension where fair and reasonable pricing does not apply. I can understand if you mark things up for a few dollars more, but when you're doubling and tripling your markup to stick it to people, I find it reprehensible. Realize you just got screwed? Don't try getting a refund - Edelweiss' "no return, store credit only" policy prevents you from returning merchandise. Plus, what's the point of exchanging when you're just getting robbed with a different item? What's even more insulting is the staff prowling around the store, making sure you don't break anything. "You break it, you buy it," signs are hung all over the place. Simply put, just do your homework before buying something at Edelweiss. Odds are you'll find what you want at another shop in Solvang for half the price! read more

Now, you can go to somewhere in some mall and get the same mass-produced-in-China thing for 1/3 of the price. Incredibly poor customer service (and quality of goods sold). A friend of mine had been looking for a certain piece of jewelry - not something expensive, but something she anticipated would last her a little while and perhaps be good for various concerts she sings at. We purchased such an item at Edelweiss, she put it on, and we walked out of the store, and browsed some nearby shops for 30-40 minutes. As we walked down the street, the jewelry literally broke and fell off. Not due to any sort of craziness on our part - it was shoddy workmanship, and shouldn't have been sold to begin with. We brought it back to the store and they refused to refund. We understand how store policy works - exchanges and store credit are common - but we're out of towners and it's useless for us to exchange a shoddy piece of jewelry for another shoddier piece of jewelry. What's the point? We brought it back within an hour of purchase, and were clearly not the type to be running around breaking things; we were simply passing through and browsing shops. Perhaps we'd even have spent some of the refund on something non-breakable there, but the amount of the purchase made it ludicrous for us to get store credit and even more ridiculous to get an exchange. The manager, hiding out somewhere in the back, would only OK a credit or exchange, even after the explanation. So - buyer be warned. Their products are poor, and their service worse. Sad, as we were so enjoying the other parts of Solvang we got to explore - an otherwise charming area. We recommend many other places there, just run far from this one! read more
