**WARNING!!** Before You Trust The Mutt Puddle With Your Dog -- Read This First!!! As a new customer, I recieved that red carpet treatment that makes you think you've finally found "the place." The lesson I learned this time is that the true character of a business isn't revealed when everything goes right. It's revealed when something goes wrong. My situation started with a grooming appointment. The Korean cut I requested wasn't what I received. However, that was not my biggest concern. A really bad grooming job grows back, and I could have easily laughed that off and moved on. What I couldn't overlook was that my tiny 5lb Maltese had a puncture wound (the size of a pencil tip eraser) under her chin and a belly covered in abrasions (guessing from hot clippers). When I got home and discovered the injuries, I emailed TMP immediately. I expected: concern for her well-being and a sincere effort to make things right. Instead, I got a lengthy email about "miscommunication" regarding the grooming. I got an apology. What I didn't get was the one thing I was looking for: genuine human concern for my injured dog. Accidents happen. A mistake and owning it does not automatically lose a customer. The solution was never complicated. A simple acknowledgment (regardless of how it happened). My tiny dog came home hurt and that mattered. A refund as a gesture of respect. Before writing this review, I posted this scenario online in a small dog group. I asked a few simple questions: Would you be upset by these injuries? Is "sorry for the miscommunication" enough? Should a refund be offered? Would you return? The majority of the people who responded to the survey are dog lovers, breeders, rescue shelter owners, show dog handlers, vets and professional groomers who unanimously agreed that they would be upset and that they would not return. Several professionals commented that while accidents can happen, transparency and accountability matter. One comment stood out above all the others: "When I read the salon's response, I don't see a groomer saying, 'I'm concerned about Tina.' I see a business saying, 'You can't prove this was us.'" That perfectly captured what I had been struggling to put into words for this review. David Vargas from TMP responded to that online post. Instead of empathy, there were disclaimers. Instead of a heartfelt attempt to make things right, there was a carefully crafted argument about why I shouldn't feel the way I do. He accused me of painting the business in a bad light. No. I simply described what happened and how it was handled. When your instinct is to defend your reputation instead of showing concern for an injured animal, the picture pretty much paints itself. This experience was extremely upsetting for my family, traumatic for our Tina, and I worry about her demeanor when I take her to a new groomer. She's such a tiny baby and to minimalize our situation has been heartbreaking. Our pets rely entirely on us to protect them and on the professionals caring for them to uphold the trust placed in their hands. For all animal lovers, that trust is sacred. One of the most concerning things I discovered after this experience was The Mutt Puddle's liability policy. Their policy (search for it online) states; that pet owners assume all responsibility when leaving their pets in the salon's care and that The Mutt Puddle and its staff will not be held responsible for injuries, deaths, medical bills, clipper burns, cuts, stress-related issues, or nearly any other problem that may arise during grooming. Reading this after my little girl was injured helped me understand why David Vargas response was defensive .. rather than showing (on a case by case basis) concern for my dog and respect for me as a valuable client. I understand that policies exist BUT they should protect everyone involved, not one sided AND they should never replace compassion, responsibility, and concern for an animal's well-being. New and existing customers should read their policies carefully and decide for themselves whether that reflects the kind of care they want for their pets. We've lost complete trust in The Mutt Puddle and will not go back. They have taught me the difference between customer service and reputation control. Good luck with that business model. read more

Came here for a self wash for my small double coated dog. The woman working at the counter was very friendly! My one complaint about this place is the tubs are low to the ground so if you have a small dog your back is gonna hurt by the end. The force dryers are very powerful - this might be the first self wash I've gone to where I left with a completely dry pup! They also provide shampoo, conditioner, ear cleaner, and cotton balls, so they have everything most short haired dogs would need for a bath. Definitely worth it! I can't say enough good things about this mornings grooming of my crazy Great Pyr/Lab mix. I usually don't have her cut way back, but she has been suffering in this heat, even though she resides in comfort in the A/C with me and her cats. There IS that outside bathroom thing you know. Today, Mariah (again - apologies for the spelling) pulled off a miracle and this dog looks and feels fabulous - doing the "I am a big beautiful white dog" strut all over the place. I left a little note with instructions, and every single thing was done, and more than that - very well done! 5/10/2019 Update: I've been coming here over a year now and have also been trying other places here and there. Mutt Puddle in Allen is by far my favorite. I live in Melissa now and still come here, they treat my puppies (I got 2 now) well and give the best grooming. I LOVE that they are across the street from the park, it's a nice way to (try to) get the dogs energy used before the stressful grooming event for them. My bigger dog is scared of everything, especially humans but she had a wagging tail when I picked her up and wasn't shaking. My other dog loves all humans but cannot stand to be crated and cries so very loud. I feel so bad but when I came in they didn't give too hard of a time. His cut was soo cute and they gave my Boy Dojo, a handsome tie and GG and pretty yellow scarf. Thanks Mutt Puddle! 5/15/2018 Update: I brought my dog back and they were wonderful. Super kind, attentive and professional. The wonderful woman did exactly what I asked and I really appreciated that she cared. We will be moving to Melissa soon but I think we'll keep coming to this groomer. ----- We brought our dog here based on the reviews. The place was nice and staff was friendly. We called and were able to receive an appointment same day! The man on the phone was very nice. He asked a couple questions about our dog and advised us to bring shot records (I love this policy). We were very pleased overall. After the service were a few cons, they doused my dog with dog perfume and it's way too strong. I feel bad for my dog since his sense of smell has to be way stronger than mine. I wish they would have gave us an option of to choose if we want it or not. It makes me feel like the dog wash wasn't clean and they tried to cover up with cheap perfume. The other small complaint I have is I noticed a couple random patches of hair that was missed. My dog has short straight hair (chihuahua terrier mix) and I feel like it would should have been noticed since he's small and it's on his neck in a visible spot. But that's something I can fix myself. I usually do a quick check before I leave the groomers but my husband picked up our dog. Overall, we are happy and will try this place again. My pup doesn't look like a gross rat anymore. I didn't see any nicks or cuts on him. He looks adorable! I know now to ask for no perfume next time. read more

I got my 5 pound chihuahua groomed on Aug 11,2018. Sad to say the groomer did not adjust the blade and caused bruising and nics to my pups belly. See pics. She came home very irritated and sore. She immediately started favoring her front right paw. I then noticed red irritation paw pads. I immediately applied neosporin and called the manager. His response was that this commonly can occur and offered me free skin tonic. I have had her groomed over a dozen times and this has never happened.
