Driving from Oklahoma City to Maryland sounds absolutely insane (because it kind of is), so when we…read morefound ourselves passing through Memphis around lunchtime, I turned to my trusted Yelp experts to help us find a local gem. Sunrise Memphis did not disappoint. We stopped in around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and didn't experience any crowds or much of a lunch rush. That being said, after eating here, I completely understand why people mention waiting hours on weekends. The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here.

Trying to grab a quick, hearty bite here before a long road trip turned out to be a test of my…read morepatience. Let's start with the logistics: this place is tiny, and the "system" they have going on is pure chaos. You order at the counter, they hand you a number, and then employees just aggressively shout numbers out into a crowded room. To make matters worse, people ordering to-go just hog the limited tables meant for dine-in customers while they wait. Management desperately needs to hand out table flags, text people when it's ready, or something, because the current setup is a bottleneck. Between the crowd and the open kitchen, expect to leave the building smelling straight-up like bacon grease. Because they were slammed, it took an absolute eternity for my food to hit the table. If you are on a tight schedule to get out of town, this is not the move. Now, the saving grace is the food--the kitchen definitely has soul. I ordered the fish and grits, and being hardheaded, I added a side of four shrimp just to compare. Learn from my mistake: just stick to the fish and grits! The fried catfish was seasoned to absolute perfection, piping hot, and the grits were incredibly creamy. The shrimp were okay, but not worth the extra cash. Honestly, the food is genuinely good Southern comfort food, but it is heavily overpriced for the tiny portion sizes and the chaotic, cramped experience. I'd probably only ever come back for a call-ahead to-go order, and only if I had zero time constraints.

The food isn't that good to begin with, maybe 4/10. I was excited to try this place because I seen them on instagram but ended up being very disappointed . The manager wasn't available to speak with, just some teenagers running the place and they didn't want to refund my son for his uneaten food nor replace the mean with something better. Not even try and compensate him (only offer a discount) and then told him to leave because he was on his phone. The cook came out acting as if he was also the security' guard, but looks like a child. Maybe that's why the food isn't that great. I definitely don't recommend this place to anyone...

My understanding is that they opened at the top of the year, but this event served as an opportunity to introduce this new black owned business to the Bartlett community. The location is quite convenient (by Kroger on Kirby Whitten). We had ample parking selections, and we were seated once we got in. We were greeted by every server, all seemed friendly and ready to serve. Inside, the atmosphere gives a family feel. There was a mix of couples in attendance, primarily skewing 40's-50's. My husband and I greatly appreciated the live jazz music, which added more upscale vibe to the overall experience. I also absolutely love that they had both a coffee bar and a standard bar. We did not try the hibachi, but that option was available as well. It took about 30 minutes for us to receive our food and about 15 minutes for us to receive our drinks. we had the mango and orange mimosas and both were good (though I highly recommend the mango). We both got the omelettes (veggie and veggie + ham). It was an ample amount of food. I couldn't even eat much of the hash browns because I was so full! For the price, we were both quite satisfied! Our server was attentive and consistently checked on us. Our water classes were never empty. I appreciate this type of service. We both agreed that we would be back, probably with family. I am hoping that this will become a staple in the Bartlett community.

I went in with high expectations as it seems to be the only fancy spot for a long distance around. Also, I was a fan of the previous restaurant in this building, Vinegar Jim's. The service was friendly and the drinks were surprisingly good, though their cocktail menu is primarily sweet beachy drinks which I don't prefer. We started with the BBQ shrimp and burnt ends plate, both of which were excellent. My girlfriend and brother both got the Debris Samich, which I liked but they did not as the bun was rather soggy. I thought it tasted good and was happy to treat it as a knife and fork sandwich. I had the 38-day dry aged prime ribeye- which was offered at a great price for the quality and the treatment of the meat. The center was cooked exactly how I ordered it, but around the outside the meat somehow appeared to be raw while simultaneously having a burnt crust on the outside. I was underwhelmed because even though most of the steak was great the burnt bits turned me off. We had a few desserts, and my favorite was the butter cake. They're definitely worth a try. The food and coffee was so delicious. I wouldn't say I'm a food snob, but I'm particular about breakfast foods, and this made me very happy. We each ordered a coffee and the bacon potatoes to share. I ordered the Juniper Benedict and my friend ordered the loaded biscuits and gravy. The bacon potatoes were cooked perfectly, soft and slightly crunchy with plenty of cheese and bacon. The eggs in my eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and they used a regular house-made biscuit that soaked up the egg yolks perfectly. The restaurant was pretty big, but the ambiance felt like a small-town diner. The staff was super kind and attentive, too. The cost is par for the course for a nice diner in a big city. TLDR: Not a bad word to say about this place.
