Sunny Saturday afternoon, OK parking, filling up by 2:00. Found a shady table for five and enjoyed a variety of appetizers, beer and wine for a couple of hours. Good local rock/bar band. Very good service, tasty food, friendly crowd. An excellent outdoor eating spot...indoors too but we stayed out for fresh air and sunshine. I was here visiting friends and they took me to a local favorite spot for casual drinks and food. Had a good time and would happily repeat the experience or suggest it as a good casual eating/drinking place.great selection of beer, wine and ale, broad selection of food and mixed drinks. First time on Sat night-found it through asking in a Mesa Facebook group and man, were we surprised! First of all, the negative reviews about service-not sure when they were there(or if) but the servers here were working their butts off and our server, Sue was EXCEPTIONAL!!! The bands were incredible, the venue is like nothing you have ever seen and I loved the diversity in the group form 20s to 70s, it was such a cool mix. We will become regulars -best venue to see live music and a large dance floor. Food was good, not really a restaurant but they had this large grill going and it smelled like heaven-we had the burgers with coleslaw and baked beans. Went there for the first time last night. We were playing tennis and thought we would stop in for a beer. There were lots of people and a great band playing real music - classic rock. We attended a birthday party here on Saturday & we had more fun than we've ever had at any other party! Our kick-butt servers name is Allie & she was a flippin' ROCKSTAR! I'd like to know how many steps she actually walks in a day rockin' & rollin' here! Our drinks never emptied & everyones food order was 100% on point! We will be back for sure & will definitely make sure we get her as our server each time! We also found out that the cool dude Jesse, that got us a nice fire burnin', is also Allies husband! What a cool couple to have working there! People like them should be running their own music venue! I'm usually never a person to leave a review for a restaurant. However... A group of us came in last night and a couple of us have been dealing with the WORST food poisoning. It started as soon as we all got home from the restaurant. The two things that we all ate/drank and have in common are the pretzel and their iced water. This is 100% something to look into. If multiple people from the same party all become ill with the same exact thing, then that's scary. There are things that are not up to code somewhere in that kitchen. :( read more

I've been here many times over the years, food Is usually ok (lettuce on a plate of nachos?) but today the food was terrible. Sunday at 1200 I ordered garlic & parmesean wings, I got them but they were floating in a bowl of grease. Asked for the manager, he saw my bowl of grease, said he made them himself, & all the extra grease was because they were parmesean d garlic, & said he would take care if it. He ended up taking $6 off a $12 order of disgusting wings. Terrible food, terrible management response. They don't know how to drain the grease off their wings, after 10 years of going to this place, I'll never order their disgusting food again. Every time I try this place I leave mostly disappointed. I went with family and friends for St. Patrick's day yesterday and left, well, not surprisingly, mostly disappointed. Pros: *Great big outdoor area *Fantastic Band *Fun sand area for kids to run around and play Cons: *Horrific service - our server told us at 5:30 p.m. this was not only her first day but her first hour. We saw her exactly 1x (who hires someone to start on St. Patrick's Day?) *Super long lines at bar to get a drink *THE surliest bartended EVER (shamrock glasses, green wig, mask that was a face smoking a cigar - you know who you are...) I get being tired, it was busy, but it was only 6:00 p.m. *Mediocre food that took almost an hour to arrive Come on, get organized! I used to own a restaurant, I know it is challenging. Have staff hired well in advance of big events. Have a mandatory meeting a few days before. Specify each person's responsibilities. Have a set plan. OVER, and I mean OVER staff for big events. Servers, bar staff, kitchen, food runners, cleaner uppers. You can always let people go early, but once a rush starts it's impossible to magically increase staffing to meet demand. I have been here more than several times and I am always mostly disappointed. (I said that already right?) A gold mine waiting to be properly mined. Went on a Saturday night for the music and dancing. Won't be back. Seating: if you like an outdoor family setting, this is an OK option; walk carefully though; need to walk through a variety of ground surfaces from brick to grass, etc. as you navigate to a table or to the bar or bathroom or dance floor. We were never offered help with seating; we just meandered and sat. Yes, they have a volleyball area, but it looks safe only for adults, so don't bring the youngsters expecting to have a game. Comfort: metal chairs and tables are not designed for comfort. Loved the outdoor fires. Music: excellent musicians, but they were super loud; they could have played at State Farm Stadium. so it was IMPOSSIBLE to have conversation if you are seated in that half side of the property toward the main stage. Menu print too small to read in the dark; we gave up. We eventually decided we wanted to move to a quieter area and found a concrete open porch patio to the right of the main entrance, but no tables and chairs... how about adding chairs there and a fire! We would have stayed and had dinner because we could have had a conversation and enjoyed the music from that furthest distance. Dance floor is super small; small kids on the dance floor is NOT good. We probably won't be back. If we do decide to go back and give it another try, hoping the owner decides to offer sweet potato fries; we asked for them and the waitress said a lot of people have asked, so what's the hold up? read more

It seems they add a new "convenience" charge to your bill so look it over carefully. It's a small amount but it's the principle of it. I deducted the amount off the tip to make it even. Pros: food was decent enough. Hamburger was cooked medium well and fries were ok. Dogs are welcome. Cons: service is poor or non existent. We arrived before 5:30 and a waitress told us to sit anywhere and she'd be right with us, 20 minutes later I went to the bar to get our drinks myself. When I asked if they had a happy hour they said "yes until 6". When the bar tender put my order in the computer he said "sorry, no happy hour prices, it just kicked your order out." I told him it was only 5:50 and we we had been waiting for service for a half an hour. His reply was "sorry, nothing I can do." When we finally got a waitress to take our food order we mentioned it to her and she said the clocks are set 10 minutes ahead. We expressed our displeasure and asked her to share it with management. She replied it wouldn't do any good they don't care. Seems like it might be a fun place if the management would step it up, but we won't be back. read more

This place can get some good bands and used to be a fun place to meet with friends to go dancing but ever since it went under new management it has gone way down hill. The venue is 90% outside and as of March they refuse to buy more propane for the heaters to help keep their customers comfortable and food takes an hour or more to get to your table. Y.I.K.E.S This place has a TON of work to do. I was there last night with a party of 16. We reserved a seating area for $50. When we arrived people where sitting in our reserved area so we had to ask them to leave. Told we'd have a server for the night... We did except it she was serving literally everyone (again $50) They were extremely busy and honestly management is just money hungry. I understand businesses went through a rough patch. This past week was insanely busy for everyone in business with spring break and everyone having tax returns and stimulus money.. restrictions are some what lifted but if you do NOT HAVE THE STAFF.... DON'T DO IT. There was a line to get in because they said the reached "capacity" but they were beyond capacity. 1 bar with 2-3bartenders and maybe 3 servers?? Drinks took 30 mins to come out Food took a while (we were warned) but some of our party didn't get any of their food... Closing out the tab took another 20 minutes. The line to get a drink at the bar was also a JOKE. So long. They had an unused bar inside. Why wouldn't you utilize that bar for tables with a reservation and have a bar tender make drinks in there? SOMETHING. I'm in management myself and I understand call outs and being understaffed but things were not handled or under control. The only time we saw a manager was when he came over and asked to take 3 of our chairs.... Cool. Overall a nightmare. I felt awful for our sever who busted her butt. If you're looking for covid precautions.... literally none. Besides my server and the door guy no one is wearing a mask. Bathrooms didn't have soap just god awful hand sanitizer. No social distancing in the main lawn area. First and last time I'll be here. 10/10 don't recommend until they have their ducks in a row. read more

I had no idea this place existed until we landed here for our company holiday party. This is a pretty cool joint! Not your basic, average bar & grill. It was actually pretty impressive & everyone really enjoyed spending the evening here. It's kind of a maze, at first, with several different rooms & areas. Indoor/outdoor option, or you can wander in between. The room reserved for us was quite large, and decorated nicely. The overall theme was great- not too busy & overwhelming but plenty of nice & fun decorations- it was a good atmosphere. The food was pretty good. I really loved the bbq chicken, that was cooked right there on the grill to order in front of me. The steaks also looked great! The sides weren't my favorite. The baked beans were WAY too sweet. But overall, between the appetizers & dinner, it was a good meal & I'd be interested in seeing more of the menu options. The drinks were on the weak side. I don't feel like I would opt to pay for mixed drinks when it doesn't seem like there was much of anything in there to begin with. Better off sticking with wine or beer. There was a live band, and the stage/setup was pretty dang nice for a bar! Great sound system & lighting. It wasn't too loud, either, but that's probably because the stage area is outside so it isn't echoing off walls. It was enjoyable to sit out in the ambient lighting with a drink & enjoy the music/show. And if you're feeling competitive and/or active- you can enjoy a game of volleyball in the sand pit, throw some horseshoes or play some ping pong out in the spacious yard area. There's also a lovely little gazebo area & a small jungle gym structure for the kiddos! (But minors are required to leave by 8pm- accompanied by a legal guardian or not.) If you are a sports fan, this is probably a great place to watch the game, too, as they have plenty of tv's mounted both indoors & outdoors. Also: be aware this is a dog friendly premises! I don't necessarily agree with that, especially in a food establishment. Being allergic, I did not appreciate this gentleman's two LARGE dogs come rub all over me, sniffing me & trying to lick my hands. It was gross, and even though they were on leashes, he did not stop them at all from coming right up to total strangers & getting "personal". I'm a total animal lover- but I don't bring mine with me out of respect for others. I kind of wish the owner would re-think that. Your pets really do not belong in a restaurant & bar. I'm surprised it is that way when it comes to liability reasons when they are extremely strict with the 8pm minor rules. Overall, it was a fun joint to crash for the night! We all thought the service was fantastic- all of the staff was very helpful & friendly. They were all dressed up fun for the holidays & it was a nice touch! The young lady who was personally tending to our group was also fantastic- great personality, made an effort to really get to know us & there isn't much of anything negative to say about the entire evening & experience! We also were scoping for a new happy hour spot & this seems like a perfect spot. So I can say the odds of being repeat customers are pretty good! read more

The Monastery bar opened 1 week ago, and this past weekend on Saturday, a group of us (4) went to enjoy some live music. This was my first outing and frankly speaking, I was very nervous due to "rona". Upon entering, our temps were taken, and we were advised on the rules to wearing our masks while we were there. They were very clear about the rules, which were ANYTIME you were away from the table, a mask must be worn (going to the bathroom, going to talk to another table, etc). Everyone did a great job of obeying the rules. The mgr made sure everyone was staying in compliance, as staff was walking around ensuring everyone was safe! I was extremely impressed. They had a limited menu, hamburgers, broiled chicken sandwich, pizza and wings. We ordered the hamburgers and chicken and WOW so good! This is a great establishment and very entertaining, hope everyone enjoys. WELCOME BACK TO THE STAFF OF THE MONASTERY YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!! read more

We came Saturday with a big group for a birthday party and were bummed to find out that they were only serving pizza and wings but our server Zach was phenomenal and made the birthday party so smooth going and was so quick and thorough with all of our orders. Mmmm I have a friend from Texas and he if likes something he uses a phrase that I'm stealing. This place is bad ass. I enjoyed my time at the monastery it was a spur of the moment that a friend said meet me there one I walked in I was greeted with a welcome you look like you need something cold And I took it. And cold it was so refreshing and satisfying if your wondering what it was I'll keep it interasanta. Then while enjoying the beverage food became a solid choice and gotta get wings because it is a simple food and if it's not done well it will determine the rest of the night. Well the wings were good fresh and not small it was like the chickens were on serious steroids and I'm ok with that because they were meaty bulky goodness. Just a side note I get my wings sauce on the side. Taste fresher and they don't get soggy and always maintains crunch. The sauce was so good I wanted to slap my friend. Here's the deal, you go for the atmosphere not the service or food. The service is minimal and the food is really gross. It's greasy. It's just not good. I attended last weekend and it was fun to watch the volley ball, but we had to flag someone down for service. The menus look like they've never been washed. The tables I had to clean myself using napkins and water. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is great, but there are some aspects of a bar that is expected and that at least includes service. Absolute worst nightmare!!! I grew up coming to this bar and grill as young kid with my parents. We used to play volleyball (no issues what's so ever didn't matter what age) swing on the swing and throw the horse shoes. Our parents used to grill our food. This is no longer the case. Apparently there are "leagues" aka "cliques" on certain days so If they are playing volleyball, you can not. Also there used to be TWO volleyball courts which was much more convenient. I will never come here again due to lack of fairness when it comes to the volleyball court and the shit "Arizona state fair food". read more

Showed up at this place to watch a friend in a band play. Brought our kid with us to the show seeing this place was kid friendly. Walk to the front and door guys say no to us saying no kids past 8 pm, pretty snotty about it. While we stand there we see a group with multiple kids eating and dancing. We ask why aren't they leaving? Door guy says oh they are packing up.. BS. There's tons of kids in there. Not coming back here again screw this place. Wish I could give 0 stars. read more
