The Modest Florist is a florist in Hampden (right on the Avenue). I've purchased flowers from them a few times. While I wish they could offer flowers by the stem so I could create my own bouquet/vase or that they had a greater variety of bouquets (most of the time I buy flowers, I'm buying them for myself to have around the house, but I have plenty of vases and would rather purchase a bouquet with a vase/jar since I don't want to keep collecting them), it's a great business to have near where I live! The service is great (the owner is lovely), and the bouquets/vases I've received from the Modest Florist are always beautiful. Whenever I need a vase to take to someone local, I'll be buying them here! The delivery service is also very convenient! I feel lucky to have them in Hampden! read more

Libby the owner/florist is great. She was friendly on the phone and in the store when I went to pick up. As a man who is a novice in the flower game, Libby was patient in explaining to me my options. As other Yelpers have pointed out, this shop is a 1-woman operation. The store is small and a bit disorganized, but the location is in the heart of Hampden and is easy to find. Street parking might be an issue if you come close to rush hours, but finding parking within 2 blocks is usually not an issue. Pros: -Very friendly and knowledgeable owner/florist -Convenient Location -Great prices!! -Flowers and overall presentation look good I called in my simple flower order 3 days in advance of my pick-up date. Ducked in here for last minute Passover/Easter flowers and couldn't have been more pleased. While it will (of course) run you more than a Trader Joe's bouquet off the rack, these are all local blooms and the owner will answer all of your questions with lots of knowledge, and wrap your flowers however you want. She was so patient and helpful as I stood there asking, "OoH! What's that called? What's that? What are they?!" The selection of flowers is always unusual and specially designed for whatever occasion I have called about. My aunt sent me flowers so I was surprised to find a dapper dude at my door announcing he was from modest florist and had a delivery for me. When I called to tell her how incredibly impressed I was with the delivery and charming presentation of the beautiful bouquet she (my aunt) went on and on about how wonderfully helpful the lady was when she called modest florist to place the order. I'm not normally a review writer but I am an avid review reader and I was so disappointed with my experience with Libby at modest florist that I had to write a review. I went to her for my January 29th wedding about 3 months out from the date. We made a consultation appointment and she expressed that she was available that date. During our meeting everything was great, she was great. She said everything I wanted to hear and I was beyond excite to find a florist that seemed to hear what I was saying about what I wanted, which was simple flowers white, purple and green. I didn't need to everything to be uniform I just wanted organically beautiful flowers. We left that appointment feeling great, she said she would get us quote by the end of the week. Well a week passed and we heard nothing. I called to check in, maybe our emails were wrong or she lost our numbers. My stepmother and myself left a few messages and emails over the course of a week to finally get a quote from her 2 weeks later with an appology for the delayed response. I was fine with that, I work in the service industry so I understand things can get hectic. I responded to her saying it was no big deal and asked to set a phone appointment so we could finalize some details and open ended questions in the initial proposal. And yet again I head nothing back from her. For 2 more weeks I repeatedly called and emailed asking her to please call me at her earliest convience not wanting to sound too obnoxious at this point. It wasn't until my stepmother finally called and left a message expressing concern for her lack of response that I got an email saying she would no longer work with us. Bottom line shes a one woman team, she hires people to help her but wont give her employees enough leeway to help her run her buisness. She needs to get herself a receptionist to handle the buisness and customer end that way she can focus on her flowers. If she cant make a January wedding work how can she make a June wedding work. If you want to roll the dice on her because she is cheap (and her prices were damn cheap) then by all means do so. But sometimes you just need to dig deeper into your pockets for a better florist because you the last thing you should have to worry about during the stressful months before your wedding is if you florist remembers you. I recommend local color if you want to go the locally sustained route or Floral Impressions in hunt valley for a more varied selection. Don't waste your time and cause yourelf more stress then necessary, shes not worth it! read more

If your getting married in Baltimore and need a great florist for a great price choose The Modest Florist. Libby was a life savor for my wedding. My fiancee at the time had another florist picked out who turned out to be a nightmare. Thank god two weeks before our wedding we switched to Libby and all was wonderful for our wedding. Don't be fooled by the owner being nice. I think that's her one and only good quality. 90% of the time, she has no idea what's going on. No sense of organization and no sense of responsibility to her customers. She will lure you in by stating how amazing her prices are compared to her competitors and to be fair, the prices she "verbally" quoted were cheaper. However, she would not provide a contract, quote, or any other sort of document that proved she would be supplying the products at my function. When we kept bugging her about it, or about having to discuss some details with her, she blew us off. Would never ever go back to her again. Find someone more reliable even if you're paying more money. read more

I wanted to work with The Modest Florist for my wedding but she never responded to any of my communication leading up to my wedding. I had a proposal from her but when I tried emailing, calling, Facebook messaging, and going to the store with no response from her about when to pay or to talk about my proposal I had to find a new flower vendor 2 weeks before my wedding. This provided unnecessary stress to me when a wedding vendor should have been communicative. After I told her I wasn't going to work with her I still never received a response. i cannot recommend this florist due to customer service and product. This is my first YELP review and felt it necessary to comment. I ordered an entirely different arrangement than what was delivered. NOTHING was the same as pictured. I immediately called the store, the phone was out; then emailed, internet not up. After numerous tries, I reached the owner who told me the flower arrangement I ordered (and wanted specifically) was not available - the one pictured on their website. I received no warning of this substitution and was shocked when I received a picture from the recipient. I have asked that the arrangement that I ordered be sent and now after 2.5 months, nothing has been done. read more
