Let me start by saying Eva the pharmacist is the best and she works Friday and Saturday, if you must come to this location wait for Eva. I have been coming here for over 5 years, because Eva is a fabulous pharmacist. In the past few years I've had to interact with less than pleasant co workers of hers. These employees have accidentally given me my brothers medication before and him mine (hippa violation much). In recent days they lost a prescription of mine and were beyond inconsiderate over the phone. I abruptly ended a call stating I would wait for Eva who is always kind. I was called back and told they would give me a courtesy refill only to be interrupted when saying thank you by "if you're so grateful leave a review." So here is what you asked for :) Do not come here unless you can interact with Eva, the other pharmacists commit HIPPA violations, are rude and do not care about the customers. read more

I love coming to this pharmacy because I feel like they go above and beyond to fill prescriptions that are otherwise difficult to get elsewhere. They have a great selection of other products and skincare and Knick knacks and it makes picking up medicine enjoyable and not a chore. I literally will not go to another pharmacy. It hurts me to write this review because I love coming here and I adore working with the cashier staff, the older male pharmacist and all the younger staff working in the pharmacy. They are helpful, kind, and provide great insight. They truly go above and beyond. However, there is an older lady who picks up the phone at the pharmacy who is often short, condescending and impatient. I literally asked a question that requires a yes or no answer and she just kept repeating herself in a job consultative way. I wish the calls were recorded so management could listen and give her some feedback because I felt awkward and stupid from the way she spoke to me. Besides the way that one lady speaks to me I do love this pharmacy and will continue coming here and recommending it to others. If she could improve her kindness on the phone it would make this a 11/10 place and I'm happy to hop on a call with management to chat further. read more

This pharmacy is so cheerful and beautifully curated. The pharmacists and technicians are very knowledgable and nice. You never have to wait on a long line to get your prescriptions. I stumbled upon this cute little pharmacy while visiting the Brooklyn Bridge. The cobblestone roads were adorable. Though the rainy weather was less than desirable, it allowed me the opportunity to seek shelter in this shop. I took interest in the cute greeting cards that were created by local artists. Very creative and relevant. I personally purchased a small pouch of doggie treats for my pup. They also carried some snacks, etc that you would find in a convenience store. What a gem! read more

Have a prescription on auto-refill, and of the two months the prescription should have been refilled and delivered they have not only (1) failed to deliver it on time but also (2) haven't had the prescription in stock or available after I've called to try to get it. I have been over charged twice for prescriptions here. My co-pay for top tier Rxs is $20. When Modern Chemist charged $25 for a prescription I've gotten many times elsewhere, I said that didn't make sense. They said "that's what came up when we put it through." I finally called my insurance co to see if my co-pay went up. It hasn't and they said the Modern Chemist charge went through as $20 on their end. It's only five dollars but it's illegal to charge more than the negotiated rate and if they are doing this across the board, they are fleecing customers. Be sure to keep your receipts. If it happens again I will go to the better biz bureau. Update/response: I spoke to my insurance co. Preferred pharmacy or not, of if the pharmacy accepts the insurance, the price is set. Pharmacies are not allowed to pad the bill. read more

Not only are the pharmacists knowledgeable and reliable, they will go out of their way to suggest options for care that they feel are best for the client rather than pushing what will make them the most money. The store itself lends a boutique feel as it is stocked with the most gorgeous brands and fun self-care and stationary products. Walked passed by this place this afternoon and thought the name was interesting and decided to walk in, it's like a fancier local pharmacy that has a variety of things like handmade combs, babyware, local t-shirts...etc as well as an area with perfume like products and make up testers. I picked up a couple of things like manual bubbles maker, hand made comb, a birthday card and left it at the counter while I continue to browse (the cashier offered to keep it at the counter and I was glad then and now I wondered if they are thinking of thief because of what I have to say next). I came in with my sister-in-law, my 12 year old niece, my 13 year old nephew, my 9 year old daughter and 3 year old son. My daughter and niece decided to wander into the tester and browsing through them which these girls do (as they do the same while in Sephora smelling them and putting the testers lipsticks on the back of their hands) while my nephew was watching my son picking these openly displayed dolls and naming them. They kids are pretty tame and knew what is ok to do and what not since I don't put up with any chance of them on any scale of embarrassing me. Then after 10 min of browsing, I saw the pharmacist looking suspiciously at us and started whispering something to the worker all the while looking at us for at least 2 min and the worker started watching us like a hawk the minute after which made me really uncomfortable and mad at the same time, I decided immediately to leave the store and hurried the kids out and apologized to the cashier for not buying the goods anymore while saying to the worker it's not worth my time here. They are located in a super touristy area and it didn't seemed they are only catering to locals with the super glitchy stuff like $30 Brooklyn toddler t shirt. Our kids were not opening up boxes, not making a mess nor were they loud and disturbing other customers so for the pharmacist to act the way he did was so uncalled for and made me felt like I was in the most unwelcome place. Two months ago I fell and cut my knee badly running up the up escalator in the subway. I had to go to the emergency room for stitches. The Modern Chemist is down the block from where I live. I went there on my way home. I got everything I needed to care for my wound as well as good suggestions as to how to do so. The place is a wonder. I'm very glad it's close by. They have a full service pharmacy and whatever I might need in terms of remedies and toiletries. There is a great selection of greeting cards and gifts. If you want to get a gift everything is chosen for it's excellence in design and quality. I particularly like the bicycle repair kits, baby bibs, toys, tote bags, colognes by my favorite brand, Philosophy. There is a refrigerator case filled with snacks and beverages. The owner, Carlos, and the staff, Caitlin, Matt and Pave are helpful and friendly and I was told they deliver! read more

I first visited this business a few days ago while I was visiting town on a whim and wow was I impressed. I have never heard of The Modern Chemist until I saw their signage on the street which drew me in. The inside of the store is just as beautiful as the outside. Everything is so visually appealing that its almost as if you don't want to touch anything! As it pertains to their products that they offer, they have a HUGE variety of all sorts of really unique items that would otherwise be hard to find elsewhere! Plenty of times from local businesses and other things made from high quality resources. To make this even better, the prices were fair as well! If you have the time and you are in the area, I highly suggest you stop in and check this place out; I promise you won't regret it. Even if you don't buy anything (and I'll be surprised if you didn't once you see everything they have to offer) it will be worth the experience itself just to check out how beautiful this store is! 5/5 read more

4th avenue pharmacy.. i am new to the area and read about modern chemist on yelp. I called in to see if they could help me coordinate getting my daughter enough meds while she is abroad for 5 months in Australia. She takes two medications daily. I spoke to Par and i immediately knew this was going to be a great experience. He was extremely knowledgable and so thorough and worked with the doctor and insurance to make sure all was ok and that we got her meds before she left. He was extremely personable and i will never use another pharmacy again. The experiemce was so much more pleasant that being just a number at one of the common chains we are all so familiar with.
