We've now ordered takeout several times from this restaurant. It's about 10 minutes from our home, and has a reputation of being one of the better Indian restaurants in the Baltimore area. The menu is extensive and has some less common dishes. Everything has been fresh and cooked to order. We have enjoyed each meal that we've ordered from the Mint Leaf' without any kind of disappointment. If you're wondering why we give only four stars after a glowing review, it's very simple. I actually took my food home and served it the following day at my dinner party so i wasn't expecting it to be very good.. lol i was surprised that even after reheating this food it was wonderful. The samosas are fresh; the crust is hot and flaky and the vegetables are in tact; whole vibrant green peas and fluffy potatoes. The creamy tandoori chicken includes tender meat in a delectable, balanced sauce; the spices enhance the flavor (not overpowering) so I can taste the tomatoes. The sauce is complex in flavor with rich dimension, spices mingling to complement the meat. The velvety palak paneer sauce is vivid in color and taste; fresh! The rice is beautifully shaped, steamy and dazzling. Hot and crispy papadams, large and folded. The garlic naan bread too is hot and fresh! Every detail of this meal was prepared and presented with dignity. The fresh pistachio Kulfi is divine; real cream and superb pistachios. The restaurant is clean and the red lighting is romantic. The menu had a good selection, and our meal was a solid 4 yelp stars. The serving sizes were generally large, especially the biryani - plenty left over for another meal. Speaking of the biryani - Usually when I order this dish it comes with raisins and cashew nuts. Mint leaf does not include these, but does put in a whole hard boiled egg. I found that interesting, usually the sweet raisins give a nice contrast, but if this is how they make theirs, I can't fault them. Wow...best part of our dinner was the service. Absolutely top tier!! We ordered vindaloo chicken (spice level 7) and butter chicken (spice level 6). The spice level of the butter chicken was too much for my daughter. Our waiter had been monitoring our table and noticed the dish was too spicy for her. He came by and suggested getting a dish at lower spice level (3 this time). This was so sweet as he didn't have to do that. She loves butter chicken and was able to enjoy a fabulous dinner. Our party and I came in close to closing time, and were happy to still be seated with a smile. Granted we were one of the only tables in the restaurant but service was very attentive. Everything was going fine loved their decor and food. But one small mistake from the employee ruined everything. He looks like the owner of the restaurant not sure he was at the register. And because I'm pregnant i ate about like 10 small pieces of oranges and when he came to our table he saw my son eating oranges too and thought that was him eating them all. He asked many times to go grab some more but my son said no I'm good. Later he told my son to eat the leftover oranges from the buffet or they have to trash it later. I had an excellent meal at the lunchtime weekday buffet and customer service experience at Mint Leaf. They had an extensive buffet consisting of many vegetarian items as well traditional meat dishes. I really liked how they have labels for each dish noting whether there was meat, vegetarian only, dairy, or nuts so that you could make an informed decision of what to eat based on your dietary restrictions. At the end of the meal I wanted to try the pink rice pudding. I have recently developed a Red 40 allergy so I asked what made the dessert pink. The chef and what may have been the owner weren't sure if it had the artificial Red 40 dye, what gave it the pinkish color was rose water. Rather than guess, the owner grabbed the bottle of the rose water and let me personally read the ingredients and low and behold the red 40 was there. I was happy I asked! Then he asked if I would still like rice pudding just without the color. I thought this was very kind and immediately said yes as I've had their rice pudding before and it is amazing. So their chef whipped up some rice pudding just for me since I couldn't have the pink colored rice pudding on their buffet. This whole experience was a great one - not only did they let me personally read the ingredients preventing an allergic reaction, but they prepared the rice pudding that I could have just for me!!! I received my somewhat greasy tough naan bread almost by accident as I signaled for a refill of my water . I found the Chicken Tikka Masala , Goat Curry and lentil beans to be savory but the rice was clumpy and scarce . I will give them a chance in a few weeks to see if they have settled in . I kept it simple with chicken tikka masala and vegetable biryani (I made the veggie extra spicy). Both were good; I would order them again. We ordered the bread bowl too - the garlic/plain naan were a hit. The bullet chili naan was great, & wasn't too spicy. I can't remember the name of the onion stuffed naan but I wouldn't only recommend it if you're in love with onion, I wouldn't see myself ordering it again. Rancid sauces. Cheap ingredients. I wanted to wait to post this and make sure it wasn't something else but my bf definitely got food poisoning from this place from Lamb Saag. Vomiting and stomach pain the same night and into the next day. It's been 3 days and he's better now but still feels queasy occasionally. The dish I got was chicken murg makanwala and the chicken was very weird, it was like hard cubed tofu shapes and the sauce had nothing in it, just looked like tomato soup. We're not newbs to Indian food but our regular place was closed for a month because they went on vacation and we got take out from here. It could be they're cooking with rancid oils/ghee and cost cutting. One other reviewer on google said their biryani smelled rancid. Never again. You've been warned. read more
