I toured close to 20 senior living facilities across the Chicago area, and Montclair stood out immediately for its care quality, staff professionalism, cleanliness, and overall value. My mother lived in the assisted living area, and I appreciated knowing Montclair could transition her to Memory Care if needed. The activities and entertainment were thoughtful and engaging, and the staff did a wonderful job encouraging participation so residents felt included and connected. The community is clean, well‑maintained, and very well run, creating an environment that feels warm, safe, and supportive. We are truly grateful for the exceptional care my mother received. I highly recommend Montclair Senior Living to anyone looking for a place where residents are genuinely respected and well cared for.

The staff and other residents of Mather Place gifted my grandmother a truly happy and comfortable last few years of her life. My entire family agrees that she lived some of the best years of her life here, if not the best. She also made some of the most cherished friendships of her life here. She was never shy in expressing that. My grandmother was never lonely, confused, or felt taken for granted for while living here. Respect for the elderly is unfortunately hard to come by in retirement homes I'm beginning to learn, which makes me even happier that Mather exists. I'm grateful for Mather Place because I know she passed away with a full heart despite any physical discomfort she experienced. I simply wish that all retirement communities were as respectful, diverse, and proactive as Mather is. Thank you so much for all you've offered to my grandmother and our family.

The facility is clean and welcoming. All of the staff knows her and myself. As with any home or assisted-living place there are negative moments, in my opinion these have been few and far in between. Her room is warm (or cool) and very adequate, ample closet space as well. The food seems good, there are many choices. You are always welcome to take food to your room if you wish. She chooses to sit at the same table every day and her server knows what she likes, her meal is often ready for her when she arrives to the dining room. The home includes free laundry, laundry service and a light room cleaning. They bring her medications twice a day and she is looked in on. The home also offers many other services on certain days including a hairstylist to name one. My mother-in-law has not participated in any of the activities she is just that kind of person, but she has not been pressured to be involved. If you're interested in activities there seems to be a lot going on. The admissions staff was exceptional. It was completely refurbished with deep cleaning, flooring, and painting throughout making it feel brand new. There have been many changes to The Lodge over the years. Three additional phases have been completed adding over 100 units. The assisted living area Encore was replaced with several new independent living apartments on the northside. Phases 1-3 were updated in all the common areas with artwork, carpeting, furniture, lighting, and painting to make everything look bright and fresh. Phase 4 will get the same treatment in a few years. The plan is to rejuvenate common areas every 10 years. Cherie Getlin became the Executive Director in March, 2024. Sadly, the pandemic hit during her first year at the community, with declining health following shortly thereafter. During her stay at the Lodge, many of the building's kindest and most dedicated employees left their positions. The 2220 building is in need of some updates. For families selecting a retirement community, it's important to keeping mind that a loved one's health may decline at any time. The Lodge does not offer weekend meal service, and very few of the residents eat lunch and dinner in the dining room during the week. The small assisted living wing at The Lodge was not certified for Medicare rehab during Mom's lifetime. The management and sales staff was difficult to communicate with when we went to list my mother's unit shortly after her death. We were charged over $3,000.00 for painting and decorating fees for a 2-bedroom unit that was in pristine condition! Since Mom died during the pandemic and had a private, graveside funeral, I contacted David Randle, the property's director, about holding a celebration of life at the building in the spring or summer. He promised to have the Executive Chef get in touch with me -- that never happened. There are many beautiful choices for seniors seeking retirement communities along the North Shore -- please look elsewhere. Caveat emptor -- let the buyer beware!
