I decided to write a review because I didn't see one here on Yelp that felt like it accurately reflected our positive experience of the place. I learned about it from friends who mentioned that their parents had been quite happy there, and for good reason! The apartments are modern and tasteful, and the physical space is elegant and well-cared for, and it is full of so many great amenities included in the price - an art studio, indoor pool, library and computer center, movie theatre, outdoor patio and gym just to name a few. There are two restaurants - one a more casual cafe and the other a more formal dining room, and both have very good food. (The way that the food is paid for has changed she moved in, which was a bit of an adjustment, but it hasn't raised the cost of dining for her). The residents all seem quite happy, and my mom has made several lovely new friends. I have found the staff to be warm and engaging all round, and would say they do a good job of making sure every newcomer feels welcome. My mom was coming from out of state, so this really mattered to us. There are other features my mom has not utilized much, such as the field trips into the city but she has enjoyed wine-tastings, musical concerts, and participating in the choir and art classes. They have a van that makes weekly trips to Trader Joe's and Jewel with residents, and residents can arrange for their driver on call to bring them to medical appointments or other places nearby. It is an Independent Living community, but there are lots of walkers around and several folks who have caregivers who come and go. One potential challenge is that there is no step up to Assisted Living, so it may not be a fit for everyone but I have appreciated that there is a full time RN who maintains an office onsite who is available to everyone to assist with any short term medical concerns or coordination of care. Honestly, we have zero complaints about Mather Place and it has been such a relief for my whole family to have found such a quality place. I would recommend to anyone looking for a month to month arrangement within an independent living community on the north shore.

(I will not be more specific because I do not want this place to be able to figure out who I am.) While they were there, I saw a few patients who had broken a hip or arm because of lack of staff. The food was not edible and sometimes not even cooked properly. There is an extra charge for absolutely everything and the base prices are very high. (In fact consider getting a full time care giver in your loved ones own place because you will save money.) If you think there will be activities and friends for your loved one, think again. Some of the staff members are the best in the world and some of them are mean and incompetent. When one resident gets a communicable illness many residents will become ill as well necessitating difficult trips to the emergency room. When you go for a look at the facility they tell you what you want to hear. They do not tell you the truth.

First and foremost were the staff and residents. They were all some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met. Not only were they warm and friendly but extremely helpful and very competent, as well as accommodating. The food was excellent, and the entire building was very clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive. There was plenty of programming and amenities both at Chestnut Square, as well as a short walk away in The Glen Town Center. Just across the street is a beautiful natural area with paved paths, a lake, shops, and plenty of places to explore. During her time at Chestnut Square, Sandra made many close friends and even developed a wonderful, close, and fulfilling romantic relationship with another resident who lived down the hall. The most important thing, however, was the dedication the staff had toward the happiness and fulfillment of all the residents. It really showed how happy everyone was in the community. Pretty amazing! When Sandra's health declined and she needed more assistance, Chestnut Square was able to provide additional on-site support through its phenomenal sister affiliate, Partners in Healthcare. The caregivers from Partners treated her and her loved ones like they were their own family. This was all available in Sandra's original apartment with a very thoughtful aging-in-place model, so she wouldn't need to transfer to another floor or facility. The care was exceptional, providing her with warmth, dignity, and respect. It comes as no surprise that Chestnut Square (a non-profit organization) is driven by their dedication to residents as well as staff--who all seem to really enjoy working there. Our entire experience with Chestnut Square was wonderful and provided the whole family with tremendous peace of mind!

I am so glad i chose to move her when i did. I have progressed to needing a walker and 12hrs a day private caregivers. Both are accommodated enthusiastically here. I know that this residential community has extended my life actively. The activity calendar offers something for mind, body, and spirit every day. My father enjoys the exercise classes, meetings, and meals in the dining room and with various groups. The food service is offered in a grill setting, carry out, and also a fine dining room which offers truly delicious meals. The facility is nicely sited within a neighborhood and seems the right size to our family - not too large and not too small. His apartment is spacious, comfortable and the right size for him. My father was initially against moving out of his home where he has lived well over have his life but is now so happy, busy, and engaged every day. He had to move into the nursing care for a few months for a severe wound to heal and has now successfully moved back into his independent living apartment.

My brother and sister-in-law lived here. When my brother was sent to Rush to get his meds…read moreevaluated, the Mather failed to supply a list of his medications even though they were asked. At Rush, they discovered he could not swallow; apparently no one at the Mather noticed or wondered why he was so desperately thin. He died without returning to the Mather. He had dementia and was cranky. When I laughed about his behavior, the aides glared at me. They apparently thought he was misbehaving and should change his ways. When my sister-in-law needed help, her family hired wonderful 24 hour help to come into the Mather because they didn't want a repeat of my brother's experience.
