My father enjoys the exercise classes, meetings, and meals in the dining room and with various groups. The food service is offered in a grill setting, carry out, and also a fine dining room which offers truly delicious meals. The facility is nicely sited within a neighborhood and seems the right size to our family - not too large and not too small. His apartment is spacious, comfortable and the right size for him. My father was initially against moving out of his home where he has lived well over have his life but is now so happy, busy, and engaged every day. He had to move into the nursing care for a few months for a severe wound to heal and has now successfully moved back into his independent living apartment.

There are options to dine in a casual 24-hour available cafe as well as a lovely dining room with excellent food. The staff is helpful and I've always them treat everyone with respect, kindness and and are willing to help with a smile and go the extra mile. There is every amenity possible, a broad array of "classes", beautiful choices in housing, swimming pool, gift shop, salon services, movie "theatre", game room, and so much more. The gorgeous art that covers the hallways are created by the residents who are working and living artists who are able to feature their work of aa monthly reception. I could go on and on but I'll leave it here. Go see for yourself..and it's a "forever home". As you need more services, they are available, so no need to move to another "home" to receive the medical services you require. It's a wonderful place.

We have since needed and are using the Memory Care unit (Canvas) which has greatly satisfied our need, since my husband now has dementia and I can just cross the street to visit him. Park Plaza was purchased by a Non Profit Northwest Home of the Aged, years ago and under the vision of Seymour Abrahms the facility began a much needed makeover. They invested a lot of resources to renovate the entire building providing a very beautiful and safe environment for all the residences. Under Yehuda's management and his team the majority of the changes took place with a significant amount of coordination and effort to provide safe transitions for residences, minimizing effects of construction and having to deal with a very challenging process. All said and done the renovations were completed, all residences in updated apartments and a place with natural lighting, beautiful aviary, waterfall and salt water fish habitats. The entire building both inside and out set up to have easy accessibility for the residences majority of require some level of adaptive technologies. Add to this a new team in the kitchen from Zeldas catering, providing high quality Kosher food. I would highly recommend Park Plaza to any children of adult parents that want a Jewish atmosphere and safety. There is entertainment and activities throughout each day with special visits from the local community sharing stories, music and great bingo nights. I have always felt safe having my parents here knowing how attentive the staff and resident resources are. One of the aspects that Park Plaza has been known for is the dedication of the staff and those involved with nursing and care providing. An example Annette who manages the independent nurses office. She knows each person by name and follows through to insure the best care and most important comfort to the residences knowing they are being cared about. . It is my hope that the board of directors and Yehuda will continue to take realistic and self reflective views on themselves and the operation as a whole. To take every step possible to continue to insure the well being of the residences, staff and resource personnel so that the visions of Seymour continue to live and that Park Plaza steps into its place of one of the finest retirement centers promoting Jewish Culture and heritage.

She loved living here and participating in all it had to offer. I would tell everyone that while my mom lived here it was as if she was getting younger! Chestnut Square is a community quite unique in how their dedication of care for their residents. It was the best decision made after my dad passed and she did not want to stay in their home where they lived for many years. The friendships my mom made were unbelievable. First and foremost were the staff and residents. They were all some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met. Not only were they warm and friendly but extremely helpful and very competent, as well as accommodating. The food was excellent, and the entire building was very clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive. There was plenty of programming and amenities both at Chestnut Square, as well as a short walk away in The Glen Town Center. Just across the street is a beautiful natural area with paved paths, a lake, shops, and plenty of places to explore. During her time at Chestnut Square, Sandra made many close friends and even developed a wonderful, close, and fulfilling romantic relationship with another resident who lived down the hall. The most important thing, however, was the dedication the staff had toward the happiness and fulfillment of all the residents. It really showed how happy everyone was in the community. Pretty amazing! When Sandra's health declined and she needed more assistance, Chestnut Square was able to provide additional on-site support through its phenomenal sister affiliate, Partners in Healthcare. The caregivers from Partners treated her and her loved ones like they were their own family. This was all available in Sandra's original apartment with a very thoughtful aging-in-place model, so she wouldn't need to transfer to another floor or facility. The care was exceptional, providing her with warmth, dignity, and respect. It comes as no surprise that Chestnut Square (a non-profit organization) is driven by their dedication to residents as well as staff--who all seem to really enjoy working there. Our entire experience with Chestnut Square was wonderful and provided the whole family with tremendous peace of mind!

My mother in law was at a Citadel nursing home prior to this and the two don't compare. Montclair is welcoming and friendly with a staff I trust to take care of her. The food is great-my mother in law looks forward to meals! Programming is good and they encourage her to be social. Walking into the building feels homey and comfortable. I have them in mind in case another relative requires needs similar services. It's a place that really cares.

I started in a…read moresmall one-bedroom affordable apartment, enjoyed feeding the birds in the tree near my patio, then moved to a much larger apartment with two bedrooms/bathrooms/walk-in closets, balcony, storage unit, and assigned parking space in 2025. It was completely refurbished with deep cleaning, flooring, and painting throughout making it feel brand new. There have been many changes to The Lodge over the years. Three additional phases have been completed adding over 100 units. The assisted living area Encore was replaced with several new independent living apartments on the northside. Phases 1-3 were updated in all the common areas with artwork, carpeting, furniture, lighting, and painting to make everything look bright and fresh. Phase 4 will get the same treatment in a few years. The plan is to rejuvenate common areas every 10 years. Cherie Getlin became the Executive Director in March, 2024. Her vast experience and dedication, she began her career in senior living while still in high school, has made a tremendous positive impact on the community. Linda Yost is an excellent Marketing Director who is very helpful with your transition to a new life.The management company has changed to Life Care Services, a leader in the senior industry. The overall atmosphere at The Lodge makes living here a pleasant experience. The staff is very friendly. A welcome bonus is that the cost is quite reasonable compared to many other communities in the North Shore area. Cable, utilities, and wi-fi are included in the monthly fee. The dining rooms are convenient without a mandatory meal plan. I like cooking in my apartment every once in a while. There is even a senior refund on property taxes distributed to residents at the end of the year. So, check out The Lodge of Northbrook. You'll be glad you did.

Sadly, the pandemic hit during her first year at the community, with declining health following shortly thereafter. During her stay at the Lodge, many of the building's kindest and most dedicated employees left their positions. The 2220 building is in need of some updates. For families selecting a retirement community, it's important to keeping mind that a loved one's health may decline at any time. The Lodge does not offer weekend meal service, and very few of the residents eat lunch and dinner in the dining room during the week. The small assisted living wing at The Lodge was not certified for Medicare rehab during Mom's lifetime. The management and sales staff was difficult to communicate with when we went to list my mother's unit shortly after her death. We were charged over $3,000.00 for painting and decorating fees for a 2-bedroom unit that was in pristine condition! Since Mom died during the pandemic and had a private, graveside funeral, I contacted David Randle, the property's director, about holding a celebration of life at the building in the spring or summer. He promised to have the Executive Chef get in touch with me -- that never happened. There are many beautiful choices for seniors seeking retirement communities along the North Shore -- please look elsewhere. Caveat emptor -- let the buyer beware!

"Getting old is hell," so sayeth my elderly relative…read more They speaketh the truth and it is hell also on the family. Consider, then, that an assisted living facility may be a purgatory of sorts. Arbor Terrace is a beautiful place for your loved ones. It's like a cruise ship or resort. The apartments are small and contain a kitchenette (no stove), sitting area, separate bedroom and bathroom and large closets. There is a cleaning and laundry service, meals are included, and activities and special events are taking place all the time. The public areas are lovely and up-to-date, and I really admire the decor. There's a salon, a coffee bar, a bar, a workout area, a game room, an outdoor patio. The staff is friendly and engaging. My relatives had been living on their own in an apartment, not really thriving, and now they are like the Prom King and Queen of the senior set. Their mood has certainly improved. I think the constant activity (games, baking, art, musical performances, special events, celebrations) has filled up their lives. It's also a comfort to know that their medications are being administered, they eat at every meal, and they are monitored for their safety. (Have you ever tried to locate a person by tracking their phone? Or not been able to reach them by phone?) The downside to all this: it's hellish expensive (all of these assisted living facilities are). Do your research and look around, and consider the Medicaid alternatives. It's never an easy decision when your loved ones can no longer live on their own. For the time being, my relatives are pretty comfortable here. They are also mobile, so they are fairly unrestricted in what they can do, where they can go. The lesson here? Save for retirement, people!
